Enchanted Jewerly fail rate
# Feb 03 2001 at 8:47 AM Rating: Default
I was just wondering if anyone else noticed that enchanted jewerly tends to fail more often than regular jewerly. Was trying to raise my skill tonight when I tried enchanting some jewerly to get more money back when I sold it to the merchant. I had 4 out of 10 succeed enchanted when 6-7 out of 10 succeeed unenchanted. This may be worth experimenting with, but I don't have to cash to do it too much.

I have decided to start the jewlery skill with my Shaman. I am also going to be making a dark elf enchanter to get the spells for metal enchanting easier. What is the fastest way to get my skill up and/or cheapest way? I would like to make some wedding sets for some friends and not sure where to get things going.

Chipped Gems from Cyrstal caverns
# Jan 10 2001 at 11:47 AM Rating: Default
Well, i have found many chipped Gems, off the geonids in CC zone... None of th egems i have found (apparently) are used for any of the Thur, or keal armor quests (velious)... These Gems Do have stats of thier own. For instance, a chipped black sapphire is <i believe> 1 ac 10 mana and 10HP. The quest gems i have for armor DO NOT HAVE STATS. Enchanted gems?? Maybe (hehe hopefully =) adding even more stats to certain jewelry? haven't had the guts to try yet. =P
Anyway, this is a list of the gemstones i have acquired.

Chipped Black sapphire
Chipped carnelien
Chipped Black pearl
Chipped Malachite
Chipped Sapphire
Chipped Star Ruby
Chipped Pearl

I dont have the stats off hand but they all in fact have stats and are not stackable like the armor quest gem... hmmm tasty.. =)
Hopefully these arent quest related LOL

These gems may not be usable in jewelry, but they CAN be used while INSIDE CrystalCaverns. If you drop one in the first inventory slot, your stats change to reflect the stone's attributes.

Cannot recall at the moment if this interfered with food and drink attributes. It may have stacked if you had the stone first. But I cannot swear to this part. Only that they DO WORK if you are in CC zone.

Also, the merchants pay handily for them... :)

RE: Velium Diamond Ring
# Jan 13 2001 at 1:06 AM Rating: Default
I don't see how either of these two responses relate to my original question. However, to answer your question, if you do not enchant the jewelry, merchants will pay slightly less for it. In the long run, regardless of whether or not you enchant the jewelry, you will never see a profit through making and selling jewelry to merchants. The small profit you make on individual pieces is wiped out by the loss you take through failures.

The best way is to buy it from enchanters. You supply the metal and they enchant for a small fee, sometimes for free! I am a Wizard and my JC skill is 202, and I dont recommend wasting time on trying to bypass an enchanter. Look at the future, you will need the high end metals Gold, and Plat enchanted aswell. Who will you go to then, so establish repore and relationships now so they help you down the road. Many enchanters who enchanted my mudane metals were very understanding, and in return I made items for them!!

Between Opal and Ruby

I am a budding Jeweller with a skill of 50. Opal just went trivial to me. The next gem to work with is Black Pearl (Loot Only), then Ruby.
I am 3rd level so getting BP is kinda out of the question, but to get trivial at Ruby your skill has to reach 70-something! Do I have to start buying 70 pp Rubies to practice with in order to cross the barren skill desert between 50 and 76? Could one of you Master Jewellers tell me what to do at this point in my career (besides get some more levels).
Thanks so much in advance!

Remember though that since you have a big jump in skill points between the current silver one and the electrum malachite, you'll have a lot of failures. It still won't add up to one or two failures on ruby though!

I suggest making things that triv well below your skill level, or you'll have to charge too much.
Especially for expensive gem items, which people with skill 200+ are also making. They almost never fail. Then charge around 50%-75% more than component cost, depending on the item. Example: silver ruby veil costs 133 to try but tough to sell for more than 180
Nice item to make at level 100+ is Electrum Jaded Bracelets, 10 Mana 10 HP 2 AC, ALL/ALL, cost 6 p per attempt and you can make good money selling them for 25 p a pair. It's best to get to 120 + in skill before making them regularly.

Check out Casters Realm (http://eq.castersrealm.com). In their tradeskills area they have a listing of merchants that sell gems, their locations, and which gems they have for sale. You can get jade in the Freeport Casters' Guild.

Jade can be purchased in most, if not all cities. I can't say for certain whether you can buy it in Freeport, because there are some gems that I know can't be bought there. Try the blue building in north FP where jewelry supplies are sold. Also, you might find it in the casters' guildhall in west FP, as they sell gems that are used as spell components. If you can't find it in FP, I know you can get it in Kaladim, Felwithe, Kelethin, and Ak'Anon.

Jade (along with almost every other jewel known to Norrath) can be purchased upstairs in a shop in Felwithe. I've never seen it around, but I've heard you can also buy Jade somewhere in highhold. If you are looking for any jewel, chances are, Felwithe has it unless it is super rare (although I have seen merchants there with some very rare jewels).

I just hit skill lvl 191 and was wondering what is suggested the suggested method for skilling up after that. I have the triv charts, for which black pearls are the next stone, but at 60 attempts per skill increase, getting to lvl 196 will take several hundred black pearls, which I probably won't see until after a year of game play. I was wondering if it might be easier to camp for certain items (e.g. ghoulbanes) and raise 5-10kpp, after which I can move to the next merchant-purchasable stone and continue. Any thoughts here?

I got 3 skill ups, from 191 to 194, just making stuff for sale, so I have been lucky.
Then I sat down in North Freeport and made Gold Star Ruby (78 p per attempt), with an Int of 168 I tried 320 of them and failed 12 times, so it cost me a little over 1 k. I went up five times and trivved Gold Star Ruby at 199 (200 platinum per skill increase). Next I will make Gold Fire Emerald which supposedly trivs at 202. I had tried Platinum Malachite (218 per Castersrealm), and failed 5 times with no skill increases.

I've made 200 attempts, had 17 failures, and gotten zero skill increase. Net result 1060pp loss. The best way to go from 190 to 200 is to enchant gold bars and combine with Sapphires or Rubies you will make 10p selling to vendors this help greatly to offset the expense of failures. I have found that switching between rubies and sapphires help. and just keep practiceing very time consumming took me almost a month.

I have in fact gone from 191 to 199 with Gold Star Ruby, and my INT is only 175....check your Wisdom for failure rates. A word of caution-lvl 196 AND 199 are killers... they will take as much as even 500 tries to lvl up...you wont come across anymore of those levels that take so long until far into your 200s...but Gold star ruby is the best way...then fire emrald so on..

BTW i got my chart from eqportal . com, the art of jewlcraft, if there is a better page please let (the enchanter/jewlers) know.
RE: Lvling above 191

Some gems regardless of the trivial charts have a higher failure rate than others.

Going from 191 to 200 I used golden star ruby, golden fire emerald, golden sapphire to get to 204. After that, start over with plat malachite, etc.

PS. Golden Sapphire is bugged. You will still get skill levels but I won't show you the message. I gained 2 levels and didn't even know it until I went on to plat malachite.
A few tips from a Master Jeweler
# Dec 04 2000 at 1:34 PM Rating: Default

First, before you make anything you should know the following:

CHA only affects buying and selling
WIS has an inpact on success rates
INT determines how fast your learn (skill increase)
DEX I heard rumor that DEX affects success

Second, put 20 points into the skill before you start. Your guild will not train you in a trade skill beyond 20, so take advantage of it while you can.

Third, make the cheapest combination of materials that is not trivial at your skill level. This is key - I have found that skill goes up much fast if the item you're attempting is very close to your current skill level. I made silver until the cost of silver + gem > electrum + malachite. At that point I moved to malachite, and so on.

As the trivial skill gets higher, the increase in skill points seems to decrease. For instance, last night I started at a skill of 188. I made 78 gold opal braclets, for 1 point. I failed 7 times, which is roughly 28+pp each failure. After that I made 80+ more and did not increase. As an Enchanter normally I max CHA (181 buffed), but as a jeweler I stripped the CHA stuff and made some +INT stuff. With all my +INT I am at 170, not quite a dullard - and still find myself lucky to gain a skill point in a hour.

Conclusion, draw your own conclusion! My experience tells me that this is VERY expensive and time consuming, but if I could do it all over again, I would. And besides, with a recent patch 1 trade skill is now allowed over 200.

Good luck, enjoy, SELL HIGH!!!

PS Plat jewelery is never trival!
RE: A few tips from a Master Jeweler
# Dec 26 2000 at 8:26 PM Rating: Default

My wisdom is 73. My int is 224. I succeed on velium/plat diamond rings about 2 in 3.

I think wisdom is overrated. I understand why people believe that, but I don't believe it to be truth. In fact, I used to have 100 wisdom and 200 int. My success rate now is much higher with less wisdom and more int.

Now if you are not an INT caster or SK, I would say forget int and put it all into wisdom.

Plat does become trivial.

There is a new chart on Castersrealm.com that has been expanded to include plat jewelry. Black pearls are awsome to practice with and make sellable jewelry. On Innoruuk server the market is satuarated with them and I find them in the store often and people sell them for about 40 plat. I have made about 200 golden black pearl chokers and have only one failure since I was about 160 in JC. After that switch to Gold/Sapphire which makes sellable jewelry +4/+2 Int/Str earrings. I have about a 95% success rate at skill level 190 and even if I sell the product to the vendor I make a little profit overall (6 plat per piece made) and this will get you to 201 or 202. I got to 202 failing on a plat/diamond ring btw :( At skill level 202 I have had great success with few failures with plat/jasper and just haven't had the desire to play click the combine bar to get my skill higher. There is a jeweler with 250 on our server and I was told it cost them 6k plat to get from 200-250.

Also there now velium to enchant and new combinations to try out with jewelry :) Bars of Velium are in the new Coldain dwarf city and cost about 380 plat each. Now to find the enchant velium spell.

Good luck!

Bah you must be loved in the dwarf city i pay around 264pp for velium bars, and i think the price is too high for in many cases only a +1 stat increase over plat. On the veeshan server i often find black peals in fv for around 22pp, from the merchants check it out.

First of all i have made as much as 1k in profit making jewelry and selling it back to the merchants, but just as in real life if you want to make money bring money. I have found that on the jewelry always enchant the metals if you are selling back to the merchants for a profit. There is always the stray player is looking for what you are working at the time, so auction while you work, not as good a whistling but it pays better. It seems to me that while working gold I made the most selling back to the merchants, my skill is at 209 now. My method of jewelry lvling works like this: go to the jewelry shop with around 1.5k pp and plan on spending time. The lvl's and success rate seems to be in the roll you get so if when you start out if you are seeing too many failures quit and come back later, hey luck does play a part. anyway on any given day you will see many items made with 1-5 failures and on the next day the first 5 will fail. Go with your gut.

I haven't kept good track of my budget so far, but I've succeeded on half of my attempts at making silver-malachite rings, in 40 attempts I've gotten my skill to 9... losing only 10-20pp. How much does everyone else lose trying to get their skills from 48-74? It seems clear that the 20 points would be better spent later in the process. Of course, I'm only a beginner and might not know something important.

I put 20 points in to start at level 8.
I used non-enchanter metal to start and gained 5 points in 30 tires = 25.
I started using Enchanted Silver and average 1 skill point every 3 to 4 tries.
I am currently using enchanted electurm & malachite to skill up, 1 skill point every 6 to 8 tries. (not even considering non-enchanted metals ever again - I made jade bracelets non-magic 10 of 15, got a higher succuss rate but no skill points in 15 tries)

With silver I lost 14pp 3gp 7sp 6cp
With electurm I have lost 90pp 5gp 5sp 2cp to date.

Selling
# Oct 28 2000 at 11:40 PM Rating: Default
I just became a master jewler making electrum. One thing I have noticed is that selling electrum is practically impossible. Players are either new and want silver, or they are twinks and already have some of the best platinum. How am I supposed to sell my jewlery then?
RE: Selling
# Nov 26 2000 at 2:18 PM Rating: Default
As far as I can see, the only things people seem to sell are str, int, and wis items.
RE: Selling
# Nov 15 2000 at 8:33 AM Rating: Default
Well, it depends on what server you are on, but I am about midway thru Electrum (skill wise) and I to find it a tad hard, but it is just like running a business. 1st is make only what people want. Don't make it then try to sell it, 1st do a shout and see if anyone wants whatever u are trying to sell, more or less you are making it to order. Another is think on the zone you are selling in.. I make a good deal of money selling in everfrost, mostly take str and wis materials with me there..do some hunting and also do a occasional auction of making stuff.
Failure rates still bugged?
# Oct 21 2000 at 8:11 PM Rating: Default
I've read reports that the failure rates for certain combinations (such as silver star rose) are higher than they should be. Is this still the case, or has it been fixed?

I was working Star Rose three days ago, and got the "can't increase skill" message at about 32 I think. I'd say it's fixed.

So you want to make Jewelry but don't have all that cash you need to get your skills up. Then let me tell you what I'm doing on a Budget.

First off wait until your 8th level to start when you get Enchant Silver. It's more rewarding to make magic jewelry then non-magic jewelry.

Second if you want your skills to go up fast in jewelry stop reading this is not the way you want to go.

Third if your going to enter this skill start planning from level 1.

At level 8 you should have cash in the bank, I had alomst 50pp after buy all my 8th level spells. I also have been hunting in BB sense 8th level where the Gnolls drop 1pp gems or less. Go to your guild and place 21 skill points in to Jewelry making. Hey you no longer suck with the basic gems. Each bar of silver costs you 5gps and the gems I gathered from the BB gnolls are free for a bit of my blood. I made my CHA +3 neckless and my INT +2 rings and thanks to Cubert I got 2 +3 earrings. I had 12 rose stones and ended up making 8 - INT +2 rings which I auctioned off for 7pp to 5pp. So for 6pp in silver I had a return of over 60pp, not a bad profit. I had to buy Amber for a few warriors I made STR +2 rings for but I either broke even or made a pp or two. I was able to sell these +2 items because I was in Qeynos area. Most players there are like me non-twinked and can aford the basic jewelry. I most of the other magic jewelry for 2 times or so the value of the componets. Example WIS +2 would cost 5gps + 8gps = 1.3pps, I sell these for 4pps. The Cat's eye neckless I sell for 2pps.

But the point I'm getting at is that to date I really haven't spent much money on Jewelry making. I'm a level 13th Enchanter and my skill is 36, and I only make items to order now, Silver only. When Level 16 comes around I'll start with enchanted Electrum and the 80 plus save vs. gems I have to get my skill up. So I'll be paying 3pp a try and if I make an item I'll make a bit of cash back. So as you can see I will not advance fast by I will advance with little cost.

I also spent as little as possible on the other things I have. Tailor skill 35 - I made complete raw silk armor for myself at level 3 to 4. My boots and belt I exchanged for the Millers bear hide armor, and my back I exchange for a Polar bear Cloak from Karg Iceberg in EF.

I also am a smith skill 35 I was level 32 by the 5th level. And Brewer and Baker and Fishing etc. All I did was follow the basic rule of "I'm not in a hurry to get there". I had 4 PC before this enchanter with the Highest being my Warrior 17th. I guess I bore easy because I just didn't like hacking and questing my way through the levels. I also have a 17th Cleric, 14th Wizard, and a 8th level Bard. And all do now is play my Enchanter because he is so diverse, he's fun, I always have money I'm never broke and because of this not being broke I have bought weapons and things for my other PC's taht I now play very little.

Being a Jeweler does not have to be cash intensive if your not in a hurry to be the best of the best. If I become a master by level 60 I'll be happy because I'll be a master in all Skills not just jewelry making. I don't have to be the first at all the new things that the programers think of I just need to enjoy myself in the game. And with this new Enchanter I can and I have.

That would be my Two coppers to this skill.

PS: I do have on Regret --- That I'm not a Gnome, for they also get to Tinker with things.

Another good source of free Gems are the Gnoll of BB. Once I get to level 16 Enchanter I will enchant eleturm and start using the gems I got from BB. I have near 100 stones up to Rose Q., The gnolls seem to drop 1pp stones or less.

Lavastorm is a good source for Bloodstones. Lavacrawlers especially. They will drop up to 2 at a time. My 20th Ogre warrior was soloing them and had 20+ in one evening of hunting..hunt around the druid ring...thats were I was.

I found this last night. Havent been to a merchant to appraise it yet. Wondering if any enchanters could tell me what it was for? Is it a component for some kind of spell? Or do you make jewelry from it? Anyway thanks to anyone who spares some time for me. =)

Icould be wrong, but Itink i remember purchasing this gem in my warly days of jewelry making for around 1 pp (from a merchant in Fel) i then (DOH) tried to combine it with silver - thinking it might make something. no such luck. Then again, it migh not have been FLAWLESS aquamarine...

Hi All,

Flawless Gems are NOT used currently in Jewelrycrafting. They are vendour sellable only and net you a decent profit (if CHR is decent and faction is good).

Check out the following url. It is a nice simple table that is downloadable to your computer and opening it in Excel and printing it landscape on legal size paper you get the whole chart. The person that posted it also includes what s/he thinks is a fair price. I believe price is according to the server you are on. Tunare's prices are not comparable with her/his price listing.

Toxxulia forest: Kobolds will occasionally drop "Useless Cloth Caps". These can be turned in for a low-level jewel to one of the two skeletons mining the entrance to Paineel. The other gives necro stuff. Out of about 20 tries, I also recieved one EMERALD, which is worth almost 14PP.

Trolls: Turn three fire beetle eyes into one of the warriors near the city entrance for low-level jewels. You'll have to talk to them to find out which one as I don't remember his name. He calls the jewels "shinies".
