Jewelry Making

The Jeweler can make magical rings, bracelets and necklaces that add to the player's abilities and stats.

What is the best way to develop and use the jewelry making skill? Which recipes are the best and the worst ones? Can you make a profit from making jewelry, and if so how? What class is best suited to this skill?

Post your strategies on how to best use and develop the jewelry making skill, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.

Casts the spell. 8th lvl = enchant silver, 16th Enchant electrum, 24th enchant gold, 34th enchant platinum, 44th enchant velium. The spells are sold in the Neriak Library so usually requires help or use of illusion spells for all but DE's to get.

Should you not desire the challenge and possible demise associated with getting your spells from Neriak... simply goto Felwithe and purchase them at the enchanter's guild. The lady through the right back door has all the enchant precious metals and other enchant metals spells are located throughout area. Enchant steel is in High Hold in the library... but since you are 49 to use that spell you know that all ready don't you?

do enchanted bars give stats? or do you still have to get them enchanted, common sense for a newbie would think they are already enchanted but, i'm just making sure.

Bars are sold unenchanted. You have to get an enchanter to enchant them to make magical jewelry.

Guild Points
# Jul 27 2001 at 9:41 PM Rating: Default
I'm new to the game and the jewelry profession. Someone above mentioned putting all 21 guild points into jewelry craft. How do i get the 21 points and how do i put them into jewelry. I already have a skill rating of 28 just by messing around with jewelry making, can i still get these 21 guild points to add to that?

Thanks,

Everytime you level, you get 5 practice points that you can use at your guild. Just level up 4 times and you will have 20. I don't know if you can actually practice a skill such as jewelry over 20 or so. Because that would probably make everyone master jewlers fairly easily if they dumped enough money into it.

You can only practice trade skills to 21. After that you will need to learn in the field, actually doing your craft. Good luck

It means that whatever you made to give you that message will no longer raise your jewellery craft skill. You will now have success at that item almost every single time you try it, but you'll never get better. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I think you are almost correct. Trivial does indeed mean you can not increase your skill level using these components. However, just because it is trivial doesn't mean you will make it most of the time. An example: 6-slot tailored large bags is trivial to my cleric, yet out of 8 attempts I succeeded 3 times. When your skill passes the tivial point of what you want to create with alot of success, please keep raising your skills twenty or so points above the trivial of the item you wish to make. To have good success in making 10-slot bags that trivial at 69? I want to use cured silk to get to 131 ? before seriously trying to make alot of bags out of expensive pelts.

Would it make any sense for a non-enchanter to even attempt jewelry making? Kinda new and wasnt sure if other classes could enchant metals....
RE: Who should try
# Jul 31 2001 at 10:47 PM Rating: Default
I am a mage that has a skill of 195 in jewelcraft. The fact that i cannot enchant the bars myself does not bother me. I have 2 enchanters in my guild with skills lower than mine that come to me for jewelry. It does make more sence for a chanter to do this skill, but it in no way prohibited to only them. To new jewelers out there, all I do is buy a TON of gold and plat bars (i understand many cannot do this for lack of funds) and have my friend enchant them for me all at once.

Only enchanters can enchant metal. Most none enchanter jewelers I know just worked their skill up with unenchanted bars until they got to a skill lvl where they could make something that sells. Then find a bored enchanter in EC that is trying to sell stuff. My enchanter only charges a small fee or nothing for enchanting metal Some charge alot. Just hunt around. When you find one get them to do all the metal they are willing to do.

These are the switch points I have used and plan on using.
Work silver up to Topaz then switch to Electrum Malachite.
Work Electrum up to Peridot then switch to Gold Malachite.
Work Gold up to Opal then go to Gold Fire Emerald (next stone sold)
Then switch to Platinum Malachite.
Also would recommend saving any of the drop only gems. (Black Pearls Star Rubies Fire Opals Black Sapphires Jacinth Sapphire Ruby and Diamonds) to help with the Gold Opal to Platinum gap and for high end Platinum work.
To me it's not worth using them in Silver or Electrum jewelry unless somebody wants to buy a specific piece.

None of the metal for jewelry drops. However nearly all of the high end gems are drop only. The easiest gem I know to hunt for is Bloodstones which are a fairly common drop in Lavastorm.

I would suggest working on the cheapest, closest to your skill level. That is, in this case work the Electrum Malachite since its cheaper. It will still help you increase in skill, and at a lower loss if you fail. By the time you start working Gold and Plat this becomes extremely important, as a failure can cost upwards of 105+ plat. For instance, Gold Saphire becomes trivial at somthing like 199, while Plat Malachite becomes trivial at around 204(or thereabouts). Saphires cost 105 plat ea, and gold bars are 10p. Plat bars are 105 plat ea, but Malachite is somthing like half a gold ea(if I remember correctly). Therefore its roughly 10plat cheaper per attempt to work the "more difficult" piece. You will still advance just fine, and you wont be throwing away as much cash if you fail.
For a complete listing of Makeable Jewelry and Trivial chart go to EQCastersrealm.com They have been EXTREMELY helpfull to me, both for Jewelry Crafting and a myriad of other subjects.
Good luck, and be prepared to be poor for a long time if you choose to persue this trade :)

Diety-Specifics
# Jun 28 2001 at 7:21 PM Rating: Decent
When and where do we start being able to make diety-specific gems and stuff? Or are those things just rare loots?

I play on a number of different servers (and the system won't let me add any more of my characters! Argh!) and noticed that there seems to be a lot more spare money floating around on the older servers than the newer ones. On the other hand, you're not likely to be able to afford to obtain a lot of items that many people want to buy on the older servers if you did not start your character within 2/3 of a year of its existence. Additionally, there's a lot more competition when you only have a few hundred (if even that) platinum to spare whilst other competing sellers have thousands of platinum in spare cash.

It's still possible to make profit even if you're newer to an older server, you just gotta find a decent other zone to run business, such as Qeynos instead of Greater Faydark (I can't compete in GF against two or three other master jewelers at the same time so I came to Qeynos ;O). Perhaps one day I'll be more active on more servers and you can buy from me! Make me rich! (On more than one server I mean =p)

You need to find a character that can imbue stones -- varies by deity which stone they can imbue I believe. I'm not sure but I think the triv for imbued stone jewelery is the same as the unimbued counterparts.

If you want to know what to do to become a great or even good jeweler, go to Eqtraders.com and Castersrealm.com. Both of these sites have all the infor you need to get started (trivial levels, what the gems and metals do, etc.) Also, don't start on Gold until you get a lot higher than 20. :-) You'll have enough trouble with most silver items until you hit skill 50 or so.

# Jun 27 2001 at 7:58 AM Rating: Decent
Hello all you fellow jewelers. I'm probably one of the most successful jewelers on morell thule. I've been reading that some of these ppl on here have spent thousands of pp. No need. Just have to play your cards right. If your going to be a business man/women then go to jewel craft. You start off as you know by putting in all 21 guild points. Next you start off by making low end stuff. Malachite and silver until you get somewhat high enough. From that point on auction off everty scrap of thing you can make and list prices as well. Make sure your prices are as low as possible too. Not only will you knock out competition but ppl will be more inclined to buy cheaper. Once you get a skill of 74 you become trivial for silver ruby veils. At this point you'll want to auction these off all the time for 185pp. Well that's what i sell them for on morell-thule anyway. And believe me you can turn a nice enough profit to not only put more money into jewelry but also buy some better equipment. I haven't even started plat yet although i am lvl 35 and i have 202 int 157 wis and a skill of 179. I have even supported a twink war of mine that cost 5k or so. But my point is simple, use capitilism to your advantage it pays off.
