1HS or 2HS

ok this is something ive been curious about since i joined everquest. the difference between 1hs and 2hs. or any of the 1h skills vs. 2h skills. now obviously u will do more base damage with a 2h weapon. but if u have a char like mine (iksar sk) who bashes and a weapon that swings fast (lower ratio) which would do more DOT? and since im an sk should i b worried about more DOT or more immediate damage (under 15-30 seconds?) im gonna post this on the 2h skills pages too.

The way I see it, 1HS is better than 2HS because you've got more chances of hitting the target.

Let me explain. Assume a 1HS weapon with 5 damage and 20 delay. Now assume a 2HS weapon with 10 damage and 40 delay.

With the 1HS weapon, you're hitting twice in 40 seconds and doing a potential 10 damage- 5 in the first hit and 5 in the second.

With the 2HS weapon you're only hitting once in 40 seconds, but doing the same potential damage.

Therefore with the 1HS weapon you've a better chance of at least doing SOME damage. If you miss with the 2HS you'll have to wait another 40 seconds to try again whereas if you miss with one of the 1HS hits you've still done 5 damage.

Hope that makes sense to you cos it sure as hell doesn't to me =P

This is why damage is computed in DPS (damage per second) and not damage per hit. It makes sense out of most of the variables.
Also, your delay is not in seconds but in % of a tic, from what I have been told. Therefore, 40 delay is 40% of 6 seconds, or 2.4 seconds. 20 delay becomes 1.2 seconds, etc. If this is wrong, and you are intent upon correcting me,pleaseplease give true formula and source of information, not just some BS comment you got from your 11 year old brother who happens to have a a 75 'Zerker he leveled entirely on MMs.

dude...wurmslayer is like 500pp obviously its not the best you can get. The best you get get obviously comes from the plane of time. BUT the best tradeable 1hs you can get is blade of carnage, drops of avatar of war. cost 400-500k. good luck getting one of them

wurmy is primary only, can't wield 2. also, wurmy is a bit too slow for a war in a group trying to hold agro (maybe if u are in a duo) unless u are just DPS. but to go off of what basicxp said... a defender's liteblade is pretty dern nice and they go for like 200p on Brell. 22/34 and some stats. can't beat it for a cheap off hander.

For a warrior i agree BoC is the best you can get for agro/stats/ratio are all excellent. But as for all time best tradeable 1hs i believe price does not always make a weap the best Longblade of Vitality is a 1hs that is 26dmg 25delay with 2magic dmg and this is only Paladin / SK useable so obviously it sells very cheap (10k - 15k on Mithaniel Marr) but has best tradeable ratio for 1hs i know and decent stats. If a warrior could use it that sword would sell for 20-50k no matter how common they where because they would be that good.

I'm a druid, lvl 41 and I'm wondering if there's any necessity or advantages to raising my 1hs as a druid - so far, the only weapons that make any leeway or help me in anyway, should I need to fight my way out, are 1hb weapons. They cause the most damage at my level....furthermore I was wondering if as a druid we get to score crits or anything?

I know my epic is a 1hs, but I have enough time to get the skill up by the time I decide i'd like to get my epic.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

My 1hs right now is 75 and I can't get it to move. My 1hb is roughly 140 +/- 2.

don't forget wolf form for upping your attack. especially the self only buffs as you get better ones. wolf greatly ups your attk. also great device for PLing. group wolf form adds some 40 attack to the character. throw in a str and yur rollin.

as far as the workin up of your melee skill, i wouldn't lose sleep over it... but if u are looking for something else to work on go ahead and spend a little time in it... coulnd't hurt

Definitely bring your melee skills up.

Increase your DEX as much as possible (when you're in weapon training mode) and if available, request Boon of the Garou from an Enchanter. Your weapon skills will increase quite easy this way no matter what level.

In addition, only Warriors receive the natural ability to critical hit with weapons. Priests and Robed do not receive any form of combat specialties with weapons to my knowledge (like critical hits or damage bonuses which I know for sure you don't receive heh).

My druid is level 52 and it has been quite some time since I have had a real use to tank or assist using either a 1HB or 1HS weapon. When I solo I am normally quadding using an area nuke or I will snare, root, DOT, and then sit and let them bake a bit while I recover mana. Once they turn their backs, I will often beat on them until dead.

In a group setting, most level 40 and 50 groups aren't expecting the role of the druid to be as a tank assist. Normally they want you to cast thorn buffs, skins, regen, lay DOTs on the mob (if it doesn't draw aggro directly to you off the tank), and serve as the backup or patch healer. (And of course at the end to port everyone back to the Nexus or POK to sell the phat lewt!!).

Bottom line is I wouldn't stress too much over getting your 1HS skills up to 200 quickly. When opportunity presents itself, lay on the practice. But most of the time the 1HS skill of a druid has no bearing on the role of the Druid within the group or raid.

You should get your 1HS up as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the longer it will take and more difficult it will be to raise it. I neglected my 1HS until level 35 and now and having a lot of difficulty raising it above 100. I now have to either stay outside of groups and ask permission to swing at their mobs (and miss a lot due to low skill), or ask the groups I am in if they mind if I melee a bit to raise skill. At my level (43), the opportunity to raise this skill doesn't present itself very often because groups depend on me for my casting abilities.

I agree it is great to get all your melee skills up ASAP, or the skill that you KNOW you will be using the most (like DRU is 1hs due to epic for me any way). Only becuase somes cases you will be in a group fighting a Cleric or Shammy. When that happens your group DOES NOT want that Creric or Shammy geting a heal off. So as a DRU I will do what ever I can to interupte the caster mob from full healing. Including casting my little tiny cute cub pet for just thoughs few hit that can interupte that Shammy or Cleric mob.

Spells tend to give more push than the measly attacks we druids can put out. If you know you're going to be fighting cleric or shaman mobs (you can tell immediately on pull by what they cast) then load up your stun right away or if they're immune then just wail em with your nuke. It adds far more push than any hasted druid could do.

Not that isn't a good thing for flavor, but there's very little use for a swing every two seconds when you've got melee DPS wailing away at quintupple the damage and speed. No dual wield or double attack = not a very good melee class (without spells.)

I would suggest useing 2 diffrant skilled weppons for skilling. If you are in need of pure DPS (Dammage Pre Second) I would use 2 of the wepons I'm best skilled at if your skill is maxed in all then you have the benifit of useing the best wepons you can get. When getting your wepons look for the lowest dely and highest damage at your price range if you want stats or effects on your wepon you will most likly have to make a DPS sacrafice.
I hope I help you =)

Yes you can use more than one type of weapon at once a 1hs and a 1hb at the same time as long as it uses one hand. both of the skills will go up but if you want your off hand to go faster make that weapon have a lower dely then the one in your primary hand has.
RE: dual weild
# Mar 18 2004 at 11:19 AM Rating: Decent
i do not think the lower delay in off-hand = faster thing really applies anymore. from what i understand, the off-hand weapon attack is on a timer of its own. this timer checks (i think its every 3.4 secs) for an off-hand attack... if it passes, then u score an off-hand attack. if not, u wait for the next check 3.4 secs later. the better your dual wield skill, the greater chance u have of passing the check. remember, this is only tru until the next person comes along and flames me LOL.

w/ the above being said, regardless of the type of weapon (1hs, 1hb, pierce, etc) you want your off-hand weapon to be the best off-hand efficiency. allakhazam has very nicely listed this as a stat whenever you look at a weapon. so the better off-hand efficiency = best damage output. hope this helps and good luck!

(ducks from the flame mobs) =)

Is there a damage cap for low level characters of some sort? I've never been able to do more than twice the baseline of a weapon plus one damage.

Also, is there a better low-level Ranger 1hs weapon than my 10 dmg 29 dly Blackened alloy longsword?

Thanks much.

You're right about the first two sort of. It tends to be:

Until 10 - 19-21 (depending on str which will raise the chances you hit for more)
Until 20 - 29-31 (same thing)
21+ - Sky's the limit.

Once you hit 21 though you'll still tend to max out at double the weapon's damage (assuming it's over 15 damage because you'd still be hitting for double the weapon damage before this level.) Raising your str, weapon skills, and atk (which is affected by your str and weapon skills) will raise the max amount of damage you tend to do. For rangers, dex serves this purpose for bows (instead of str.)

1hs weapons will usually get double the dam plus one but 2hs weapons get better dam ( dam bouns) the higher the lvl you are the more bouns you will get with a weapon and 2handed weapons get much much better bouns then 1handed if 1 handed even gets more than 1 I forget. but when you see a weapon box with the stats in it someone post here or anywhere else that says the dam bns: # if you get that same weapon you wont get that bouns because it was based on that persons lvl thats how you get that.

This may be a newbie question, but I am one, so please indulge me: How do you get to do more than the base damage of a weapon? Every single weapon I've ever used has done a max of double the base damage plus one. Is there a cap on the damage I can do, or what? If so, when does it go away and when can I do more damage?

Also, is there any 1h slash items for low-level rangers better than my 10 dmg 29 dly Blackened Alloy Longsword? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Okay well most pallies will use 2hs, this is because they simply hit ALOT harder, I have an SK and I use both skills very much, 2hs is good for hitting hard while 1hs is good if your the MT, it helps you keep aggro b/c its usuwally faster and with the sheild you will have a higher AC and a chance to itterumpt the casting of mobs. A really cheap 1hs for a knight class is a Shissar Knights Sword, goes for like 40 - 100 pp on my server, if you have a few more k plat to spend, head towards a massive dragonclaw shard, or a shard of knight, i'm not sure if the shard of knight is pally usuable though :), theres also that battle hammer for pallies only, so many chioces out there, its best to not stick to the swords that aren't made for knights as they are mainly for DW classes. I'm not to sure about the 2hs swords as I don't go to the bazaar much, but weighty polearm, is really cheap and is pretty darn good, also the argent swords are alright but abit slow if your the tank =/, the sword my SK uses was only 1k you can look in my magelo for it, its best to use 1hs, 2hs, 1hb, peicing, all have super good weapons and you never know! A two twined corpse pitchfork or sumthing like that is really good for pallies and SK's, the possibilities are endless! Just the most important thing is to have fun! I like to roleplay in my characters looks, because a knight without a knights sword is not a knight in my books :) However if you really don't have much cash at all, just get a velenium longsword for like 5 pp heh it can take you to level 30 if your in groups and thats when the cash starts to roll. Try to get ALL your spells aswell, because it might be better than you think, and last have fun :), GL and have fun!!

Greenmist is good but not the best. Check out Soul Defiler, Dmg 21 Dly 19 str8 svp20 svd20 hp75 mana75 effect:call of bones wich turns your target into a skelly. In my opinion Paladins and Shadowknights get some of the best 1hslashing ratio weapons in the game. Don't just take my word for it, do a ratio check for 1hslashing weapons on this website. You'll see that most of the top weapons are only useable by Palys and Sk's. Now as a warrior, we do get ok weapons but very very few. So far we still don't have a decent 1hslashing weapon that does more than 20 dmg and has low delay. Bloodfrenzy is great, 16/19 with tons of stats but its hard to get less if your in a uber guild. I'm not complaining, I'm just stating the facts, :P

Int + Dex is what will PL your weapon skill.

Int to understand the use of the skill
Dex to hit more often in combat
the more you hit the more of a chance to learn a skill fast
280 dex + 200 int i got piercing to 185ish in about 5 hours with it in my primary lot on a raid, btw i ended up getting a 18/20 piercer during that raid that made really wanna use piercing :)

Yes the lightblues can make it go up but the chances are very slim.... the more exp something if worth the more chance you learn new technique that improves combat skill number now this is the kicker... works on con red too.... find a nice high level that will let you tag along and nip at the heels of things that would usually kill you and watch you combat skills power level

Your bio is a big clue to your problem:
Quote:
Messed up High Elf pally. Being a newbie, I assigned my points to WIS and CHA instead of STR and DEX.

DEX is the skill that, among other things, affects how fast you learn your weapon skills. More DEX = faster weapon skill ups.

To get a skill increase you must be fighting a mob that you can get XP off, and I could be wrong (I could be very wrong cus I rarely play him) but when I play my SK I don't remember getting XP from light blues.

If your 2hs is maxed at 135 then I guess you must be lvl 26. At that level I would recommend traveling to somewhere like highkeep and practicing on other groups mobs when you can't get a group yourself ([\b]always[\b] ask first). The secret to this is having the lowest possible delay weapon you can get, you aren't bothered about the damage (it's not your mob right?). Good weapons for this are things like Gnoll Hide Lariats (20dly 1hs). It also helps if you can get a haste buff as more speed = more hits = more chances at a skill-up.

If I were you I would stick with the mace for now. In a couple lvls you won't have to melee to kill your mobs. All you will have to do is snare, root (if your in an area that could create adds or just don't want to keep moving around), dot, med, and repeat as needed. Also you should be looking for +wis gear, and i wouldn't worry about looking for a necklace or braclet with any str to it, since druids get str buffs. Hope this helps ya out. FYI- my main is a 47 druid :)
