Moonlight Temper
# Sep 22 2000 at 2:19 AM Rating: Default
Moonlight Temper is not created when a brewer comines 1 Morning Dew+1 Vial of Swirling Mists
+2 Essence of Shadow(unstacked)

I had to learn the hard way.

If you manage to get that Vial of Swirling Mists(very rare drop of Steam Elementals in Steamfont) hang on to it. Right now the recipe given on ALL of the sites is incorrect.

If someone manages to find the REAL recipe for Moonlight Temper please post here.

Thx,

I have read on the brewing page of this site that the correct recipe for Moonlight Tempers is:

Morning Dew + swirling mists of dusk +Moonlight of Two Nights

I have not confirmed this so I make no promises.

well finally I got a essence of moonlight. I got it from a willing sapper, inside the castle.

Logically I think this essence of moonlight is dropped from undead of MM castle, undead will be spawned starting at 7p.m. to 6a.m., and rare dropped from these undead.

( well this game is damn make sense, Moonlight = dropped from undead in night time spawning, sheesh )

Shadow temper is made through the brewing skill. Combine in the brew barrel:1 Neriak Nectar (purchased in 3rd gate or quested for via the beetle eye quest), 1 elven blood (from any elven NPC, except for Dark and Half Elves), and 2 non-stacked (goes without saying) Essence of Shadows (drops from Shadowed Men, seemingly just from the shadowed men in Nektulos and Lavastorm). Trivial at 135, and seeing as my brewing is only, um...1? ;(

By the way, Adamantite Rings take a Large Brick of Ore, flask of Neriak Nectar, and a File.

Brewing for Tailoring

I want to raise my brewing skill for tailoring - is it a even possible to only make heady kiolas from 2 or 5 skill level until they trivial? Will this be extremely expensive if it does work?

Yes, you can do it. Yes it would be overly expensive. Heady Kiolas are a relatively expensive drink to brew.

Headys trivial at 46. The cheapest way to go to that point is :
Bog Juice to 21 (assuming you don't bother to get to this point with practices) - Snake Scales + Water + bottle
Short Beer to 31 - Barley + Hops + Malt + Cask

Mead to 41 - Hops + Malt + yeast + cask

Start making the HKs at that point. You can start earlier, but the earlier you start, the greater the expense of reaching 46. You Should get a reasonable succes rate at 31, but below that is a bad idea.
WRONG!
# Sep 24 2000 at 9:40 PM Rating: Default
I'm a monk-brewer-tailor. I know for a FACT that Heady Kiolas trivial at skill level 68! Furthermore, making Heady Kiolas raise your brewing skill level REAL SLOWLY, if at all.

So to complete the skill list while spending the least amount of PP possible, do start making bog juice and then short beer.

Them make Fish Wine:
Fish+water+grapes+bottle
(Raises fishing skill, and you get three bottles per success: PROFIT!)

Then make Ale
barley+malt+water+cask

Once that trivials, Heady Kiolas will be trivials too.
RE: WRONG! is wrong
# Oct 08 2000 at 11:20 PM Rating: Default
Heady Kiolas do trivialize at 46. While brewing I took special care to mark when certain brews trivialized.

For my 2cp worth, I'd start with short beer (hops, barley, malt, cask) and then move to heady kiolas. Short beers (and later Ol'Tujim's Fierce Brew) are nice items to advance because a good portion of the ingredients are stackable and easy to get (if you can enter FP that is).

Like you, I wanted to make headies for my tailoring. I eventually became addicted to brewing. I would strongly suggest spending time raising your skill well above 46 in order to be more frequently successfull making headies.
RE: WRONG! is wrong
# Oct 19 2000 at 4:49 PM Rating: Decent
Thanks for all your help everyone.
I did get my brewing up to I think 68 (whenever fish wine trivializes). The heady kiolas do trivialize at 46. It looks like it will be very difficult for me to raise my skill nay more, though, because I need foraged items for the next _several_ things that trivialize. Is this true, or is there a way around the foraging?

Not too extremely important when headys go triv. A good, inexpesive (which also means pretty time-consuming) guide to making headys can be found in Allakhazam's skill page for brewing - Sindi, the brewing monk, put together a rather good guide for those who want to brew for headys but are on a budget. Worth checking out.

Mostly, you'd brew Heady Kiola and the occasional Tumpy Tonic for profit. At least, that's been my impression. Although, with the new smithing recipes, you should be able to brew tempers for profit, since smiths will need them for the new armors. I'm not sure how easy the tempers will be to make, but I would think that you'd be able to make a profit selling them.
Merchant profit?
# Sep 24 2000 at 9:51 PM Rating: Decent
I do beleive that at three bottles per success, Fish Wine is the only brew that, when sold to NPC vendors, cost more then the overall items it cost to produce it.

To produce Fish Wine:
Combine water+fresh fish+grapes+bottle

You get three bottles of fish wine, which trivialises at around skill level 62. Be sure to fish your fish if you want profit. Then again, realise that this is never to give you anymore then a plat, if at all. If you want real profit, use the Heady Kiolas with your tailoring skill to sell Cured silk to players at 2PP per AC.

To tell the truth, I don't know of much trades that give a profit to NPC vendors. Baking Fish Rolls was something I toyed with on another character, but the failure rate was unnappealing.

It is Heady Kiola, and the Kiola Sap is sold by the same vendors you buy bottles and casks (and most finished drinks) from. Not the vendors that sell malt/hops/etc.

Everyone needs charisma! If you are performing a trade skill that requires you to buy from or sell to a vendor then you NEED to get enough charisma gear to get your cha over 103. The cheapest charisma gear thats not too hard to get, where to get it, and probable prices with (pp/cha), are:

Mystic Doll, Feerrott, 3 cha, Free (0)
Medal of Merit, Qeynos, 5 cha, Free (0)
Silver Cats Eye Necklace, Jeweler, 3 cha, 1.5pp (.5)
Silk Evening Tunic, Qeynos, 5 cha, 5pp (1)
Crude Stein, Feerrott, 15 cha, 30pp (2)
Electrum Cats Eye Bracelet, Jeweler, 4 cha, 8pp (2)
Golden Cats Eye Bracelet, Jeweler, 7 cha, 26pp (4)
Splitpaw Tooth Necklace, SK/Paw, 5 cha, 25pp (5)
Opalline Earring, Unrest, 5 cha, 30pp (6)
Electrum Star Ruby Ring, Jeweler, 7 cha, 128pp (18)

That is more than enough gear to get anyone with a base charisma of 40 to 103 for optimal prices, so anyone can leave out the expensive or harder to get gear.
As an example of what this will do, if you fletch from 1 to 100 skill selling arrows back to the vendor, you will spend approximately DOUBLE the money at 60 charisma that you would at 103.

An alternative for neck is Gypsy medallion +9, from Konrik the cursed in North Karana. Few rumors on sites, that have CHA gears to be corrected : Brass ring +1 is not waist slot but finger, Mystic doll +3 is not inventory slot but offhand and Leatherfoot raider cap +10 is maybe a broken quest now, because alligator skins in Innothule swamp may not to be looted at the moment.

In one of the newbie zones (Lake or swamp, can't remember which) there are a couple of vendors that have a seemingly endless supply of snake scales for sale.

You can use these to get started on Bog Juice. (1 snake scales, 1 water flask, 1 bottle)

Secondly, to make fish wine you'll need fresh fish. If you try fishing in the canals of Cabalis you will hook the occasional fresh fish but more often than not it will be some kind of fetid bass which cannot be used for any of the brewing or baking recipes.

Instead, go fish in the swamp of no hope - all fresh fish.

Its true that fishing yields fetid bass of varying size in cabalis itself, but if you want fresh fish, jump IN the water and kill barracuda. Make fish wine a snap.

Brewing is an easy skill to raise with all ingredients being available from vendors up to a skill of 135. If you can't afford to sink 30 or 40 pp into the skill, then you're better off waiting or raising it slowly as your wallet allows. Personally though, I like to increase skills fast rather than worry about saving 5-10 pp. So here's how:

Step 1: Short Ale
barley + water+ hops + cask

Increases to skill of 31

Step 2: Mead
hops + malt + yeast + cask

Increases to skill of 41

Step 3: Ale
barley + malt + water + cask

Increases to skill of 68

Step 4: Ol' Tujum's Fierce Brew
barley + hops + malt + yeast + cask

Increases to skill of 135

This process doesn't require foraged foods, which can be used for alternate recipes when available. But SAVE YOUR VEGGIES for 135+! The best location to perform all of this is South Qeynos, as all ingredients are located a very short distance from the brew barrel. Upon reaching 135, you can use all of those veggies on:

Step 5: Ginesh
veggies + water + short beer + shotglass

Increases to skill 168.

I haven't tried any of the new Kunark recipes, but if anyone can confirm one that raises skill above 168, please email me at nexroth@oracleofvirtue.com
A recipe for Halas heaters is also needed.

And try not to drink too much while you're trying to learn! :p

As stated in previous posts, Bog Juice (1 snake scales, 1 water flask, 1 bottle) is a cheaper method to attain a skill of 21.

Next move to fish wine (1 fresh fish, 1 grapes, 1 water flask, 1 bottle). You can use your fishing skill to get fresh fish free. It is harder to make than short beer etc but its cheaper so even though you'll sink a few plat at earlier levels, you'll recoup it later.

Fish wine trivializes at 62.

"Fish" refers to the fresh fish that are the only type caught in non-Kunark zones (except Ocean of Tears). Before Kunark there was never a need to distinguish it. As far as I know, only one other type of fish existed at that time... the Rivervale Trout.

Fresh fish can be caught in Kunark zones. It's just much less common with all of the different possibilities.

Brewing is not a skill for profit, more of one to pass time and relax (no where near as heart pounding as running from giants).

I started Brewwing to support my tailoring skill, but have continued to increase it beyond the trivial range of Heady Kiolas. I'm now at 144 skill.

A note: Brewing is A LOT simpler if you have the forage skill, cause you can use recipes that do NOT require casks, which are not stackable so very annoying to work with.
