pick locks

You must have a min of 11 to pick the lock at Befallen. So add some points then go down and max yourself out.

Simple tip. Keep clicking on the door. I waited like a dummy till the door closed before I hit pick lock again. You can open and close and in a matter of 30 minutes I went from 11 to 90.
not working

I am a level 15 rogue.

When I had the ability to get picklock I trained it and then went to befallen (as that is where everyone says to go) and unlock the doors there.. well I got the message:

"you are not sufficiently skilled to pick this lock"

So I trained my picklock upto 10 and tried again.. once again same message. I went around to every locked door I knew and could find.. but they all say:

"you are not sufficiently skilled to pick this lock"

Anyone know why it does this?
Or where a skill:10 lockpick can lockpick?

Thanks.

Skillcap for bards is 125 ( my 35 bard have that)
In PoT neat PoK book is a book floating above a desk, klick above the book and u will fast train your skill to 125, Good luck.
the way it works

ok with doors u pick up the lockpicks and click on the door. With a locked chest like in LDoN u click on the chest and have it targeted and click the pick lock hotkey (be sure the chest isnt traped) and there ya go.

Ive been playing for almost a year and so far i have yet to find a locked door or chest. Where do you normally find them?
RE: Is it worth it?
# Oct 27 2005 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
Quests have them, the entrance to the city of Paineel requires a key, some doors in Befallen require keys, there's one in North Freeport bank that is locked, The Hole is locked (key is purchasable in Paineel, but so few peoples' faction is good enough to get them a key to the city), and probably more that I don't know about, there're probably more zones that I've not been in than I have.

Im wondering what great use we have for lock pick. Can we open the chests in LDON and is there money in the banks if I do decide to get carpal tunnel learning the skill in befallen?

Yes rogues and bards are the only one who can safely open certain types of chests found in LdoN, no there is no money in the banks and yes it is probably still worth learning this skill due the use we get out of it at higher levels.

Does anyone know of a chart of door trivials and which door can not be picked?

# Sep 15 2003 at 8:11 AM Rating: Decent
Don't you have the feelings there was a patch or another which implemented a trivial system to the Picklock and disarm trap skills ?

I intended to train in befallen but infortunately it didn't worked the way I thought. Each door gave me 2 skills points and then stopped. The same things goes for the traps in Echo cavern. It seems to be a lvl for the trap/door and when your skill reach that lvl it doesn't train anymore.

Two hundred attempts on the first door in Befallen and no increases. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? lol

<edit>
Guess I should read more posts before posting. Will have to get more skill points to put into it and try again when I have 11 points in pick lock.

Thanks all who have posted on here.

I have found paineel a very handy place to start my lock picking career. After killing around 400 kobolds in the warrens from level 8 to 11 I finally got to dubious with the gaurds, then (still unable to get the key from them) I just picked the lock and headed in (handed in heaps of teeth and got 12th in seconds and amiable faction)
I have skilled up to 70 on the paineel rock so far and it took around 20 minutes.

I have a good question. Whats the point of lock picking? I would do it if i got bored of the game, but really how many locked doors are worth going through? they need chest through out the land. Yeh what else would be cool is if they put sow potions or something in em. Cause i know they wouldn't put anything worth a poo in em and some potions would be worth while. Sometimes I wonder why they just stick to making so many weapons and not doing cool fun stuff.

There is a locked door in City of Mist that requires lock picking of 201 to even attempt opening. Lots of folks need that door open to get to the big goodies in that zone. So, 45+ rogue is mandatory.

It comes in handy getting into the Hole without a key. Large races will appreciate it. Smaller races can squeeze through.

In order to get to the exit on the top floor of Tower of Frozen shadow you need lockpicking skill (not sure of the minimum required skill there).

Another reason lockpicking is important

Another very important place where lockpicking is generally required is to quest for your sleeper's tomb key (most people have not completed the quest to get in the locked room in DN)

Another important place is SSRA, where you will find that having a rogue with lockpicking skill rather handy in getting around.

Also Chardok for warrior and cleric epic drops... but as to City of Mist, they can be picked with 183 in skill with a +3% skill mod item. I do that often.

Very nice idea, but unfortunately you can only use your picklock skill on locked doors.

The way this quest works is that you have to give the key to the slave, so the key in this case is a quest item.

From a roll playing point of view, since you give the key to the slave, it’s the slave who does the unlocking:
You slip the key to the eleven slave, while the evil orc overseer isn’t looking. The slave manages to use the key to unlock his shackles and forever indebted to you.
or:
You sneak up to the eleven slave and slip him your set of lockpicks. After struggling with the lockpicks for several minuets with no luck, the slave wonders if you realise that while you’ve been running all over Norrath practising you skills, he’s been chained in a pit and forced to dig ore.

# Nov 03 2002 at 10:34 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah items that modify (sp) your skill will help.
Like for a lvl 41 rogue(with max skill 200) give him a pair of Gloves of the Blood and he now has the skill of 206

Gloves of the Blood are nice they have no other stats other than +lock pick %3

How i figured its 206 (200 x .03) (.03 is the whole % just in decimal form)

200 x .03 = 6 then just take the 6 and add it to the 200 because its adding to your skill

Heres a link if you want to take a look at them

Ok this is what I found. Befallen 1-200. NFP Bank 201-210. Get a mechanical lock pick and it modifies your skill by 2 percent. Thats huge whenyou are only at 200. It enables you to open high lvl doors like in Chardok.
training locations?

Ok, I've built up my skill to 185 in befallen 6 months ago, and never seem to have time to go back there. I have friends who want me to pick locks that require 200, and the only places I know to practice are Befallen, Freeport, and I suspect Najena, though since the other doors require keys, I suspect the one in the jail might, too. None of these places are convenient since the nexus made druids obsolete. I can get a port there, but getting a port out is going to be a hassle. I've searched Shadowhaven and found nothing pickable, and on several attempts to get lost in shar vahl I've found nothing pickable. I've been to Katta twice, and didn't find anything there either. Are there pickable doors anywhere within reasonable distance of the nexus or any nexus spire without sow or ports?
RE: training locations?
# Sep 29 2002 at 9:34 PM Rating: Decent
You can train indefinately in Befallen, but after 150-160, it gets REALLY hard to raise the skill, like all other skills, you just have to keep at it. If you're looking for a change of scenery, try the BANK in Freeport. The door behind the bank tellers is locked and you can train in there.

Trust me, you're gonna spend a LOT of time getting this skill over 200. I'm guessing it took me over 5 hours of CONSTANT picking to go from 11-203.

Having just maxed my skill out to 200 here is my findings:
1. The ability button Pick Lock does nothing.
2. To pick a door you need to be holding you lock-picks in your mouse cursor and then you left-click or press 'U'; over the door you want to pick.
3. At lvl 6 you need to put 5 practice points in the skill as the first door in Befallen needs a skill of 11 to be picked.
4. Providing your skill is high enough to pick a door, i.e. 11 for the first door in Befallen, you will NEVER fail.
5. Providing your skill is high enough to pick a door, i.e. 11 for the first door in Befallen, you will have a chance of getting a skill increase.
6. You can practice your skill from 11 to 210 on the first door in Befallen (you can use any door to practice once you have a high enough skill to open it).
7. The skill cap for pick lock is the standard 5 * lvl + 5 with a cap of 200 below lvl 50 and 210 above lvl 50. (This means that your skill will cap out at 200 at lvl 39).
8. You can not open lock chests, boxes, etc. using this skill, just doors.

There seems to be no quick way to raising this skill, just find a door and click. It has just taken me over 2 hours to get from a skill of 175 to a skill of 200, so I would suggest Frank Herbert's DUNE as a good playing companion while practising this skill.

To open the door in EFP for the Burning Rapier Quest it is reported that you need a skill of 122 (lvl 24) and to open the door in the bank at NFP you need a skill of 201 (lvl 50+). You can use a set of mechanical lock-picks that gave you a +2% modifier to lock-picking giving you a skill of 204 at lvl 39, which allows you to open the bank in NFP and I imagine almost all the other doors in the game (it might let you open the EFP door at lvl 23).

You can not open the door on the 2nd floor in Highpass Keep or the door in the Freeport Militia building in West Freeport using this skill.

This may be a little late in posting an answer to your question, but I was recently told by higher lvl rogue that picklock skill caps at 206 (which u pobably meant to ype) unitl lvl 60 then it goes up to the listed max. My own skill is stuck at 206 for a while now. I belive this to be true.

I must now assume this to be true. I wish I had read this sooner, because at lvl. 53 I am stuck at 206. If I told you the exact length of time I have practiced since getting to 206, it would make you all cry. (hint: more than 15 hours) Oh well, guess I am just dedicated to the rogueish arts.

If you are referring to an item called "A Locked Chest", this is used in a quest, not meant to be opened. And if you have a No-Drop item that you want to get rid of, just hold the item on your cursor and click "Destroy".

To use pick lock, you have to have lock pick set on your cursor and be close enough to intended target(door) then left click. I suggest you dump some of your practice points into this in the beginning. A good place to practice is befallen. Use the door that leads to the lower zone. This door requires a key, but with lock picking over...ummmm 20 or so u will succeed each time. Made 200 skill lvl on this door and will come back once I hit 50+ to max out skill....GL

Also (once you have your lockpicks in hand) you can use "U" to open the doors. Saves time if you have to run from a mob through a dungeon (like Befallen) and some mob aggros, or your party gets attacked. Note this way you wont accidently drop your lockpicks either even if you dont have the drop items off.

I have a set of lock picks but cannot figure on how to use them. at lvl 8 I can start to practice picking locks. I spent a practice point at the guild. I purchased a set of lock picks. I found a chest with a keyhole in Misty Forrest. I assume I have to try picking the locks located in NPC areas but for all I know lock picking is a skill that I cannot practice in Misty Forrest or in rivervale. Can anyone give me a clue?
