Dire Charm - useful?

Dire Charm costs 9 AA points at level 59 minimum before you can get it ( And you need to have spent AA in level 51 and 55 type AA)

Is it useful? As a chanter I found it pretty good, but think it through. As a Chanter I have big hastes and slows which can even up most fights LOL. And I would have some nice processing summoned mage weapons, belt for HP and a mask for haste. ( even if they dont work I give the pets the items, you never know!)

And then I use my illusions to make the pet into a Werewolf or Scarecrow with small life tap.

In Plane of Valour the small frog was extremely powerful as a damadge add to a main tank, to the point we could easily heal using a Druid and often never dropping below 90% for main tank.

This AA costs 12 points and becomes available to the appropriate classes at level 59 on the Class tab in the AA window, after having spent enough points in the General and Archetype tabs.

It allows the caster to cast an unresistable charm on an appropriate mob type up to level 46, as long as the mob is not uncharmable. The ability has a 72 minute reuse timer, which is one game day. The pet buff box shows the duration as permanent. It cannot be dispelled, but will break with hide or invis.

This AA first came out with Shadows of Luclin when the level cap was 60 and AA were first introduced to EQ. It has gone through some changes since then. It used to not quite be permanent, but last several hours. It used to be dispellable, which was a real bummer when using a DC pet to farm in areas with dispelling mobs.

After the level cap increased from 60, this ability lost a lot of its usefullness. Every Planes of Power zone had a DC'able mob just to appease those who had the ability, but the pets became less and less usefull and in later expansions DC'able mobs were left out of high-end zones.

As added worry-free DPS for druids or enchanters with summoned pets that do less damage, this AA can be "somewhat" handy, in zones that have an available mob. Most people fly past the levels that it would be usefull in though, and then have higher dps pets available so don't need to buy this AA. It is, however, a prerequisite, for enchanters at least, for higher level unresistable charm AA Edict of Command.
Not worth it, potentially dangerous

Definitely not worth the cost. By the time you're of sufficient level to get it, it's only useful for 2 or 3 levels at best. Spend the points on something else. It would be nice if this was disclosed in the description.

One other point, attempting to use this on a mob that's too high for it to take effect results in a lot of aggro.
Chance or for sure?

I havent gotten this AA yet on my druid, i was wondering, since the description is sort of unclear, does this effect always work? or is there only a chance that it works?

Still find it very useful

There are still plenty of uses for a DC pet. Try farming in some areas and it is nice to know that it wont break after you have it maxed out on buffs. You can DC pets in PON, POV, BOT just to name a few higher level zones. In my honest opinion it was well worth the effort to get. Oh some words of advice....it can be dispelled on rare occasion by a magic user who is canceling magic or if you go invs. It is also nice to warn your group before you gate or leave the zone because someone will have to deal with a very nasty mob that has tons of buffs.
what's the use

what's the freakin use of spending 9 points for Dire Charm then if lvl 46 is the highest mob... shoot.. my regular charm spell allows me up to lvl 60... lol

yeah I know it's the fact that the pet will not leave unless dispelled of the effect, but I can even summon my own bear (yeah I know he's little) and can do better than most lvl 46 animal mobs.
confirmation?

the hatchlings in temple of veeshan are good pets. this one even puts a mana dot on your enemy, https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=8574

and these temple of veeshan pets have a lot of health compared to most level 46 mobs.
