Baking

You need to eat to live, and the baker is able to create his own food, both for personal consumption and to sell or give away to others.

What is the best way to develop and use the baking skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? Which cities are the best places for Bakers to practice their trade?

Post your strategies on how to best develop and use the baking skill, and read, rate and coment on those posted by others.

armadillo meat
# Jun 26 2001 at 11:47 AM Rating: Default
I found armadillo meat on different vendors in Freeport yesterday. Can anyone tell me where this comes from and what you can make with it if anything? I tried armadillo steaks w/ the jug of sauces and they would not combine. I will continue to experiment but please share if you have found this meat or a recipe for it.
What is this!?

Skilling past 135 / flour

Hi all. Just got to 135 in baking after making at least two million fish rolls. Anyone recommend something to make after that to keep increasing the skill, that doesn't require foraged items like berries or vegetables for pies?

While on the pies, anyone know the locations for buying flour? I assume at Chrislin Baker's place in Western Karana, or at the bakery in South Qeynos, but seeing that I'm in the Freeport area, heading across the mountains for flour just isn't worth the trip. Anyone know of a place with flour in Freeport, or even Faydwer?

Flour can be obtained in the east commons. Near Inn 1 there are two huts in one is a baking supplier and the other is pottery. The baker sells flour.

Try Marinated Muskie trivial at 142. It is a hearty meal with STR 2. Combine Rathe Muskie (A fish found in Lake Rathtear), vinegar, spices, snake egg oil, and fish wine.

Does anybody know how to get past 142? What is the cap on it, or is there one? Where do you find recipes that get you past 142?

Kill lava basalisks in Lavastorm, they sometimes drop an egg or two. These are not like ordinary snake eggs, which yield 1 clump of dough, but FIFTEEN clumps of dough from a single basalisk egg. The looted ones give you 15, foraged ones give you 5. Once you have collected a satisfactory amount, take them to Inn 1 in EC for baking supplies to mix the eggs into dough. You will find rat ears sold at the eastern building in the Inn 3 complex. Obtain a pie tin from a potter or blacksmith, and combine it, rat ear, and dough clump in your Spit to make rat ear pie, which will get you to skill 142.

Feel free to travel from one side of EC to the other to obtain items u run out of, as I don't recommend making all the eggs into dough at once if u have, say, 2 stacks of basalisk eggs! I suppose you could just buy a stack each of milk and flour, or however many u have of the eggs to match... sorry, goin off on my own plans here lol. I'm about to go do it myself.

I like this strategy to raise my skill from 135 to 142, not that I have far to go... but my forage skill doesn't go very high, so I like the buying idea! =)

I do not know how to exceed lvl 142 without the need of brownie parts (chocolate items) or dragon meat.

Thanks to the guy collecting basalisk eggs who shared his egg-gathering tactics, and to eqtraders.com for the dough/pie info. =)

I also bake out of FP and if you go out to E Commons just follow the trail to the first inn. The guy in the last shop on the left at the first inn sells flour, spices, frosting, etc. Also, you can collect rat ears or chunks of meat from the newbie zone and make rat ear or meat pies instead if you can't get foraged items.

For your first meals I recomend rat sandwiches. Combine Rat meat and bread to make a meal that is trivial at 26. Also Batwing Crunchies are good. Combine Bat wings with frosting to make a meal that is trivial at 46.

Dough
# Jun 18 2001 at 2:41 PM Rating: Decent
When I was playing like a year ago I knew there was a recepie to make dough which didn't need eggs. It involved the baking spirits and the other weight flour you can get in places like the bakeshop in Qeynos. Can anyone confirm that verant eliminated that formula? I've tried a mess of combinations but am not sure if they the eliminated it for if I'm just not remebering the right combo.
Ice cream
# Jun 16 2001 at 11:54 PM Rating: Decent
I read somewhere that a person actually saw someone with icecream. So, I'm assuming this is a recipie that CAN be made, somehow. Besides, if it isn't, it should be I think. I've tried using ice of velious, malted milk, and various other combinations of things, but still no luck. Anyone have any ideas or know of how to make this?

Well, I've just been through Kith, Commons, and Karana shops and it seems bread has returned. Didn't really have time to investigate anymore. So keep looking..try to find those lil shops. :)

the last of the bread in Norrath..
# Jun 15 2001 at 4:49 PM Rating: Good
I can tell you that because of the shortages, bread has become scarce, if not already non-existant. I will tell you the one secret I found however. I belive they did this shortage in a way that people didn't notice until it was gone. I *think* what they did was instead of giving the merchants an endless abundance of bread, they gave them 3 or 4 stacks or so to sell. After that, it was gone. That merchant didn't sell it anymore. So, considering this, the first bread to go was the bread sold in the cities, where most people shop. However, I did learn of one place that was virtually untouched concerning the last supply of bread in Norrath. Kithicor Forest. That's right! Good ole Kithy that everyone waits until morning, then hugs a wall, and pray they get through it before daylight is gone. Go during the day, say at noon. Check all the shops. There may still be some bread available to you. One thing tho, if you're on the Xev server...sorry...I bought the buggers clean out of bread. :) I've also heard that the bread recipe is broken, can anyone confirm or deny this?! Welp, that's my 2cp and now it's back to the baking. mmmm...beer braised bear steak (say that 3 times fast..phew!) :)

Good Luck to you all!

The guy below said eqtraders.com is a good site. He's wrong, it's a VERY VERY VERY VERY GOOD SITE!! Hehe, I just found it very helpful, because it lists how sustaining each is, and the new stats each food item can give! I also found more recipies I had not heard about in my older baking info pages. Go look! It's under Skills: Baking (duh) =D

RE: How?.....
# Jun 15 2001 at 2:45 AM Rating: Default
Iksar as your first char, yikes! :)

Anyway, once you have your ingredients, find your nearest oven. Make sure it's an oven and not a pottery kiln. I'm not sure every city has an oven, but every one I've visited has at least one. Cook your dishes there. You could also buy a spit (like a portable oven) to cook on the go.

Two sites I have found very valuable:
www.eqtraders.com (someone mentioned before)
www.eqtradeskills.com (locate ingredients, your nearest oven and MORE!)

Happy cooking!

Yesterday while in the Freeport newbie zone I was checking what the little gnome vendor had for sale (the guy w/ all the wigs) and I saw he had an enduring drink for sale. I can't remember exactly what it was called, something 5000. I don't know if he has them all the time, or how many he has, but that's the first time I've seen anything better than a drink.
