Baking

You need to eat to live, and the baker is able to create his own food, both for personal consumption and to sell or give away to others.

What is the best way to develop and use the baking skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? Which cities are the best places for Bakers to practice their trade?

Post your strategies on how to best develop and use the baking skill, and read, rate and coment on those posted by others.

MEATS

I need meats and it is such a PAIN in the rear trying to get them. I cant find anywhere to buy a steady supply and trying to hunt things like Mammoth for meat is time consuming and unproductive. Also, I can't seem to find Race meats anywhere (Ive tried camping lockjaw takes FOrever for a tiny yield) - does anyone know where such meats can be found? I know there are at least 3 vendors in Velious that sell bear, lion, scorpion meat, etc- but I'm only lvl 40 can't just go traipsing around velious looking for bear meat lol - and that still doesnt cover things like Mammoth and race meats. Any info/help would be greatly appreciated!

One more question before I go- how much do stacks of stat changing meats sell for suchs as +2 Str Beer Braised Bear and +3 Str Mammoth?

Thanks! )

I usually stop by merchants in the city. Usually some of the less used merchants have meat, but no one thought about it so it was never bought. Also, one of the best ways to get racial meat without loosing faction is to hunt the bandits in various zones. Notibly the Cutthroats in the Commonlands, and bandits in areas like Lfay, Gfay, Butcherblock, etc.
As for pricing, I've sold some of my +3str meat anywhere from 5-20pp a piece, so at least for me, the price is still fluctuating.

Baking to 135 EASY.

Make Fish Filets to 82 (1 Fish, 1 Jug of Sauces)
Make Fish Rolls to 135 (1 Fish, 1 BatWing).
All ingredients can be bought, and both recipes can be made in an Oven or Spit. And remember, the higher you INT, the faster it goes, with 189INT, it took me about 10 minutes total to get from 0 skill to 135.

The new female merchant in Irontoe's in Kaladim has about 2 stacks of bread everytime she repops. The male merchant is her assistant/placeholder and only has meat pies. The female is up during the day and the male at night. Also, the Inn near the gate in EFP has bread on the female vendor, I've gotten anywhere from 1-2 stacks at a time. I think she has 2 stacks a day, but don't know what time she gets them. Hope this helps. If you go to Kaladim, say hi to Trumpy for me.

Pickled Goods

What size jar do you need for pickled froglok, lizard, or gator? I have a medium clay jar and it tells me that it won't combine.
RE: Pickled Goods
# Jul 16 2001 at 11:29 AM Rating: Default
Okay, I'm pretty sure that the instructions in the cook book you have purchased are wrong. It says to put vinegar and the meat into a jar. However I tried (with a homemade jar of medium size) and it also did not combine. I tried many different ways, and finally figured it out. You must combine the meat, vinegar, and also some sauces in the oven to make the pickled meat. I am not sure if the jar is used for anything other than a container, though. Hope that helps.

Fruit
# Jul 06 2001 at 8:12 AM Rating: Default
Could somebody please tell me how I may get fruit? I am unable to forage for it and am new to the game. Thanks for the help.
RE: Fruit
# Jul 20 2001 at 2:58 AM Rating: Decent
If your race/class can not learn the foraging skill, the ONLY way you'll get fruit, or any other foraged item except fishing grubs, is to buy them from a PC who can forage. NPC vendors do not buy these, so they will not have them in stock. Probably your best bet is to either make friends with someone who forages, or make an alt char who forages. Your best bet is a Wood Elf ranger or druid, since these classes start with 50 foraging and can improve their skill.
By the way foraged fruit, berries, vegetables and roots are all also used in brewing.

It takes quite awhile to become good at foraging...I'm told. I can't forage anything yet, and I'm probably close to lvl 15 at it. There should be places where you can buy it, although I've noticed that what the shops carry depends on 'supply'. Just keep foraging, add it to your hot buttons macro and punch it all the time when not in combat. Good luck! ~ Ranaya lvl 7 druid

If you make a hot button for the forage and map it to your left/right movement key, everytime you move left/right you will forage. My forage is always maxed out and i have more forged food then i know what to do with

I am very curious about this. I have tried to figure out the Hot Key configuration for doin such a thing, but can not find anyhing in the EQ manual that informs me how to do it.
Please, do tell. I would love to get my druid's and bard's foraging skills maxxed out.

The easist place to get shark meat is to go down to OOT, Erud's crossing, even the bay area in Erudin, or Timourous deep (not safe) and hunt them down. They have some set areas and are generally always in the zone. The only merchants I know of that usually have shark meat though, are the ones in Erudin, however I wouldn't be surprised if any of the merchants by the docks had some for sale.

Just incase you still need it, the recipie for the unfinished rat ear pie is...

A giant rat ear (or 2 normal rat ears)
Flour
Baking spirits

Baked in a spit or oven, and you may need a mixing bowl, but I think that might be extraneous.

Well, for those of you who need a bit of help, spits are sold in kelethin and in BB right outside of kaladim. Flour, spices, jug of sauces, vinigar, books and milk are sold outside kaladim in BB also. A great beginer recipe are wolf, rat or bear sandwiches. Slap some meat between some bread hehe.

Good and not so good things

Well the good news is that Brownie parts drop on every brownie kill(33 in a row), instead of 1 of 3. This drop rate continued after the patch on the 27th June so looks like its chocolate muffin time. Apparently someone at Verant actually listened to the complaints of bakers. Then the BAD NEWS came thru, Balisk eggs only make 5 doughs at a time now. I thought I was set for life in the egg department. Im using forridged Balisk eggs now having exhausted the dropped eggs that used to give 15

Don't know about the snake meat, but I can help you with the sandwiches. Just look out for an oven (There is at least one in every city), put bread and meat in there and hit "COMBINE" ... voila, tasty snake sandwiches, full of proteins and vitamins...
