Baking

You need to eat to live, and the baker is able to create his own food, both for personal consumption and to sell or give away to others.

What is the best way to develop and use the baking skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? Which cities are the best places for Bakers to practice their trade?

Post your strategies on how to best develop and use the baking skill, and read, rate and coment on those posted by others.

These sites are good enough to get you to master skills, so i highly recommend them in addition to allakhazam's magical realm =o)
Although I recomend Raul's site over EQ traders, you should check out both.

Stat increasing food

Dont know if anyone has mentioned about the advantages of baking. It saves money in the long run. For starters, when your skill is sufficent enough to make them, banquet sized meals last for a very long time. The only thing you really need to buy is water. But to a more inportant note. The oasis is a good hunting ground for level 13+ characters, so allways keep a look out for Lock Jaw, and if you get the oppertunity, loot the meat off him. stat increasing food is a bonus. But you can also get around loosing it, by force feeding your self to full and every so often, try force feeding to make sure your full. then leave the stat increasing food in the first available slot. Enjoy. its also good fun selling this stuff to players. hehe

There are many stat increasing foods, but they require high skills to bake. They are worth it though because of the stats or just to sell for a few pp a piece =o)

Actually even though Verant has added higher and harder level cooking through the patches, they have failed to change any of the older and easier foods that are about the same level.
For over 135, try...
*Beetle Eye Pie
Clump of dough, fire beetle eye, spices, pie tin
*Berry pie
Clump of dough, foraged berries, pie tin
*Meat pie
Clump of dough, chunk of meat, pie tin

These are all skill around 142, so after this, you will have to start brownie foods (160ish skill) or start with Velioius recipies.

holgresh meat

Has anyone found a recipe that uses holgresh meat? I have about 17 of them and don't know what to do with it. I suspect that maybe, cause they're Velious mobs, that the ingredients need to be purchased in Cobalt Scar?

Wedding cake and birthday cake are actually both around skill level 162. After that comes most of the Velious recipies with the massive incredients like dragon meat or wurm meat, etc. A dragon steak will close your skill in near 200.

In case nobody knew.. kill Ulthorks until your blue in the face to raise faction with the Othmir in Cobalt Scar. (higher faction = better prices). There are 2 Othmir merchants in Cobalt scar, and one sells baking supplies. ( Oyster sauce, Alage spices, plankton frosting otter milk . etc..) Hope that helps :) Prices arent very high either =)

Baking.. the evil way
# Aug 07 2001 at 5:15 AM Rating: Default
Here is how I raised to 135 easy and fast. (Troll Warrior) First, know where you can buy baking supplies. Being evil kills many places, like the inn 1 in EC. There are few ingrediants more important then : Batwings (Neriak casters guild, EC Erudite vendor near WC, Ooggok Shaman guild), Frosting and Jug of sas ( Ferrot ogre vendor right outside city, Neriak by bank ) and Fresh Fish ( fishing /yawn, Ferrot fisherman near city on shore, Neriak Commons by fountain)

Getting a spit is nice, you can have a guild chanter get on at Traders Holiday in Efp, otherwise only place a troll ogre DE can get one is threw smithing or Coldian city.

1) Put about 10 points into baking.
2) make bat wing crunchies to trivial Batwing+frosting
3) Make Fish Filles to trivial Fresh fish+Jug of suace (makes 2)
4) make Fish rolls to 135 Fresh fish+Batwing

Advanced Dark Race Cooking:

At 135 to go any higher you will need some items that you really should have anyway cuz your hard core baking now anyway and it's in your blood.

Tins :

First find out who in your guild is a smith with skill over 115, or find out if anyone is a potter with 135.

Pie tin = Pie tin mold+ceramic lining+metal bits+flask of water.

All tins are make this way. You will need:
Pie Tin, Cake Round Tin, Muffin Tin, Skewers, Pot, Smoker, and for shaped cookies- cookie cutters(these would be cool if it changed the icon, but you just get a tray that looks like batwing crunchies with the name Troll shaped cookie.. Weak)There is a bread tin.. but ***** that, you can buy bread from the Sro erudite evil vendor.

A Mixing Bowl : these are sold all over, a vendor in Neriak Forign courter sells em.

The Mighty Baskalisk Egg:

For most things you will be baking after 135 require a Clump of Dough. This is An egg+milk+cup of flour in the mixing bowl. Most ppl will say save your snake eggs which i will tell you right now sucks a$$. For every 10 snakes you kill maybe 2-3 will have one egg and snake eggs only make one clump of dough.
Go to Lava Storm and hunt lava Basilisks they are around lvl 14-15 and anyone over lvl 18 will rock them rather quickly. out of the 10 i killed i got about 8 eggs as they can drop up to 4 eggs at a time. Each of these eggs make 15 clumps of dough per egg.. nothing makes more. so you will never run out of dough for cookies, muffins, pies, and cakes.

Wedding Cakes:

This will raise your skill to around 148 or so.
You need white chocolate first.. Brownie Parts+milk+frosting in mixing bowl.
You can get Brownie parts in Lfay, but be careful. there mean muthas. Now make wedding cakes to trivial.

At this point almost all of the Stat food will be trivial to you. ( I have yet to find a non-trivial stat food yet. )

Fun with cooking :

make sure to always offer a DE a ter'dal steak, or a gnome a gnome-cabob.. especially on guild raids.

Hope this helps some of you..

It seems that all the bakers out there are suffering through the tedious task of fishing, as this seems to be the only real source of fish in any quanity, unless you buy it from a merchant (like the one in rivervale, who'll sell you tons of fish) Well there is a better way to get fish without buying or fishing. In rivervale there is a small lake, right where that fish merchant is, all you need to do is jump into the water near where the merchant is and then swim to the opposite corner. From here the fish in the lake will swim right up to you, they spawn fast and keep coming so all you have to do is whack them and loot the fresh fish, just make sure you don't drown :P

Note: You must be able to take on the pironas that are in the lake as well.

There is several advantages to this, one is the fish supply of tons of free fish really fast, the second is that you also get tons of fish scales (used for enduring breath, you can keep for yourself or sell to druids and others for a nifty profit), and third the piranas drop quest items, namely the jaw that is turned into the fish merchant guy for faction and exp.

Getting your supply of fish here will give the broke baker a good supply of fish and earn the baker a few coin to furthur invest into his skill.

What am I doing wrong?
# Jul 28 2001 at 4:11 AM Rating: Default
Ok I put the points in baking.
I fished a stack of fish off the docks in BB.
I killed a stacks worth of bat wings.
I bought a spit (from the merchant right outside Kaladim).
I bought the jug/jar of sauces (stack)

I sat down rather smugly...and found I could combine none of the things for fish fillets or fish rolls in the spit I have.

I get a 'cannot combine in this container type' message.

What am I doing wrong??

Spices can be obtained by baking merchants. They sell spices, flour, frosting, vinegar, and stuff like that. There's one in EC in a hut just next to Inn 1. Eggs can be found in most newbie zones off of the various snakes you'll find. =)

As a Level 9 iksar shaman i just got into baking and you can buy alot of spices from the merchant there. Right now im not so good at baking but im trying to make some spider candy. You combine 1 spice 1 frosting and 1 spider leg. You can not use the spiderling or scarab legs for this.

Skill Level
# Jul 18 2001 at 9:01 AM Rating: Decent
I am sure this has been asked several times, but are the tradeskills level dependent--->Does your level determine your max skill, or is it the same as the language skills(no limit based on level)?

I have just been wondering because I have had problems with raising some of my tradeskills--but I have read that they are unrestricted.

No, all trade skills are not based on level, you can max them out at 200 at level 1. Also note, Verant put in a specialty for trade skills a while ago, allowing you to go to 250 but I belive only on one skill.
