Baking

You need to eat to live, and the baker is able to create his own food, both for personal consumption and to sell or give away to others.

What is the best way to develop and use the baking skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? Which cities are the best places for Bakers to practice their trade?

Post your strategies on how to best develop and use the baking skill, and read, rate and coment on those posted by others.

If you are having difficulties getting the already mentioned locations for purchasing Frosting then perhaps you should check out this site: http://www.eqtraders.com/location/baking.htm

It has a list of Baking supplies by zone. Enjoy!!

You can also find it just inside WK if coming from the Qeynos area. There's a few huts to your left when zoning in. She sells quite a few baking items along w/ several cookbooks.

Frosting is found in East Commonlands next to one of the Inns. It's the first set of huts if one were to enter EC from West Freeport. Hope this helps. Try making Fish Rolls to create a banquet sized meal that only weighs 0.1 !!

I don't think Dragon Steak trivs at 166. I would reccomend getting to 162 doing wedding cakes, then see just how high dragon steaks take you.

Stat Foods
# Sep 25 2001 at 6:49 AM Rating: Default
Was wondering if anyone could tell me how the stat food works...

Does it add to stats as long as its in your inventory and not eaten?

Can you have different stats giving foods and they stack?

Do two of one kind of stat giving foods stack?

What do stat giving foods sell for?

Thanks
Stat food answers
# Sep 25 2001 at 8:17 AM Rating: Good
1. Yes, stat food will give the bonuses as long as it is the topmost food item in your inventory. Never right click on a stat food to eat it. It will be gone, and the stat bonuses gone with it.

2. Yes, you can have diff stat foods; but no, they don't stack. I keep a Beer Braised Mammoth meat in my top slot if I am fighting, and I switch to Smoked Wood Elf if I am working on my fletching or baking for the WIS bonus. When I'm just bumming around, I keep regular food (like fishrolls) as the top item so I don't eat my stat food by mistake.

3. You didn't ask this~ but a good bit of info is how to make your stat food last forever. Put a stack of regular food in a main inventory slot and right click on it until you get the, "You can't possibly eat any more" message. Then every half hour or so, just right click the regular food again to force yourself to eat. I always click twice just to be sure I get the "can't eat" message. Because you get the stat bonus just for having the food as the top food item, and you won't eat it as long as you are full, the stat food will last forever. I have had the same 2 pieces of Beer Braised Mammoth in my inventory for three weeks now.

4. It doesn't matter if you have one of a food, or 20 of it in your inventory, the stat bonus is the same.

5. Sales~ I don't know about your server, but on mine I have a hard time selling anything less than Giant steaks. Most of the people who want stat food just learn the skill, and the rest don't seem to understand how it works. My best advice is to give out free samples ~ Rat Kabobs work good for this, with the offer to sell higher stat items. I hardly ever sell stuff anymore. Prices for you will be based on demand on your server, but a 5pp per stack for Rat kabobs, up to 20pp for a stack of Mammoth steaks. Dragon Steak~ 1000pp each MINIMUM (but I would tell them how to make it last forever). If you just auction "Inventory slot item that gives +4 to all stats to highest bidder" on a Saterday night in EC you will prob start a huge bidding war and make a ton of plat. I might /auc "Master Baker taking requests" when I'm in a big trade zone, but usually I just take what meats I find, and give stat foods to Guildmates or people I group with. Things like catering a wedding should be done just for fun, not for profit I think.

Hope this helps :)

To work my skill up to 135 all I did was go to FP. In west FP you can buy bat wings from a lady in the Mage's Guild place, then go to east FP where you buy fish from the docks and can gete a spit this is the fastest and least expensive way I have found to up the skill...EQtraders used to have recipes for the food with stats but it hasnt been working the last 2 days. I knew I should have printed them out. If anyone knows anyplace else I can get this recipes please post. And oh I sold the banquet size fish rolls for 5pp a stack people love them to have more inventory space and reduce weight they have to carry

Purposes for Baking: Time, Food, Quest
# Sep 21 2001 at 1:00 AM Rating: Decent
The purposes for Baking Skill include:

Passing the time, instead of Playing GEMS, when recovering Mana and/or Health (The first thing you make is sandwiches)...Mammoth meat yields 5 sandwiches per success (and don't you like seeing skill-increases, of ANY kind, while regenerating?);

Fish Rolls are a Banquet-Sized meal, so you carry less food, and it lasts longer (just like Fuzzlecutter 5000, the Longlasting drink does);

The gentleman in Voleen's Bakery, South Qeynos, has a quest requiring 10 hand-made Muffins (won't accept the store-bought kind).

Good enough?
Bread & Muffin Shortage: Only a Myth...
# Sep 21 2001 at 12:50 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, Bread & Muffins are available after a SERVER REBOOT. The merchants are given a limited supply (about 6 stacks) when the Server is Rebooted. You can buy it then. But when it is gone, there will be no more available to the economy until the next reboot.

In Halas, you can get Bread and Muffins from the lady in the bar (Macdonald's), across from the forge. She is also your never-ending source for Water Flasks.

In South Qeynos, Voleen Tassen, and the Man inside her bakery, both have Bread. Only Voleen has muffins (which you will need for the Guard Wenbie quest).

I have searched the usual spots in Halas, South Qeynos, Qeynos Hills and Erudin. There is no bread!! What happened to it? I know I was able to buy it in Qeynos from Voleen no more than a month ago. Now it is completely gone from anywhere :((

How to make Bread
# Sep 26 2001 at 5:21 AM Rating: Good
Yes, we can make our own bread. It is a two step process.

[step one]
1. Clump of dough: Combine flour, milk, egg in a mixing bowl. Triv is 17, yeald will vary by the type of egg used. (snake eggs yeald one clump of dough, up to basilisk eggs that yield 15).

[step two]
2. Bread: combine clump of dough and bread tin in a spit or oven. Tin will always be returned (like skewers, etc). Triv 115, yeald 1.

Question: Why do you need bread? At the level of baking required to make bread, all the sandwiches are trivial, and no sandwich (except scorpion) gives any stat bonuses. As a generic food item or skill building, use fish rolls (triv 135) then do rat ear pie (Qeynos varient) to easily get skill to 142.

Bear meat, short beer and spice makes beer braised bear gives str and takes away 1 int.also if u are in freeport buy Bat wings and frosting and combine thos 2 ... bat wing crispys take ur skill as far as the 100's... and if u want others then buy a baking book from the vendor they tell u what things u need to combind. Whats the point?
# Sep 15 2001 at 5:17 AM Rating: Default
Could someone tell me the point of baking? I got this guide off of somewhere that tells you how to make plat fast, but i think verant nerfed it cause i make little or no proffit when i sell them back to the vendor. So i just want to know what the point of baking is. I've heard that there are some stat increasing food items, what are they, whats the difficulty on them, and how much do they sell for, for a stack? Thanks!

Fish Rolls
# Sep 14 2001 at 12:39 PM Rating: Default
This has probably been mentioned, but I'm at work and do not have the time to read the whole page. I was extremely impressed with the ease of increasing baking skill off of one simple recipe. Bat wings and fresh fish. I purchase bat wings at the little hut near the last Inn headed from EC to WC and purchase fresh fish in Rivervale at the dock (both approx. 8gp per stack). I happen to be hunting wyverns in CS at the moment and noticed the otters (othmir) had a baking oven and needed something to do while I medded, for me baking seemed logical. To make a long story short, I've used about 600 bat wings and the same amount of fresh fish and have gone from 0 skill to about 120ish now (and still have not hit trivial). Hmm, wonder what I can do with Wyvern and Drake meat. Can't wait to try some of the recipes which provide stat bonus food.

Anyway, hope this helps someone.

Fishing
# Aug 23 2001 at 12:31 AM Rating: Default
I would like to say 2 things from a master baker and master fisherman.

Fishing is NOT tedious, as a druid it is my quiet time away from the ppl hounding me for sow, regen, healing, tp , buffs, money and gear.

I enjoy it and am currently at fishing skill 185 and still enjoy fishing, although Tox has been quite busy lately, my secret fishing spot. I think i have to find a new one, I was accosted by a newbie warrior the other day *sigh*.

If you can stand it, oasis and Nro are good for bakers to catch fresh fish, as is bb, DONT fish in FV for fresh fish you will catch all sorts of fish that are NOT fresh fish.

HAPPY FISHING

# Aug 22 2001 at 8:56 AM Rating: Default
ok , what you do is you go to ec first, one fo the very last huts near wc zone, buy about 10 stacks of batwings, then get a port to greater fay and go to felwithe, go to the lake at the back of felwithe and go to the shacks that sell freshwater fish, buy 10 stacks, you may need to buy more components, but the oven , is right near the shack behind a merchant, jsut put one bat wing and one fish in the oven, combine, and rais your skill, it will take awhile, but im a master baker, and i did it in about 2 and ahalf hours, malikia , terris -thule
