Baking

You need to eat to live, and the baker is able to create his own food, both for personal consumption and to sell or give away to others.

What is the best way to develop and use the baking skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? Which cities are the best places for Bakers to practice their trade?

Post your strategies on how to best develop and use the baking skill, and read, rate and coment on those posted by others.

For baking skill up to 45, you only need batwings and frostings. From 45 to 135, you only need batwings and fresh fish. I found the frostings at a vendor outside Ogguk in the Feerott, near to the funny stone monolith adjacent to the entrance to Ogguk, and Batwings inside Ogguk at the Shaman's Guild. I found fresh fish inside the port authourity building at E. FP, next to the docks. All 3 items are sold in unlimited quantities.

If no one minds, I'd like to start some post on where to find all the useful meats or vendors who sell things like this.
I've only got a few right now, but I'll post more when I find them.
*A good place to find dark elf meat is MM, since everything is a darkie many of them drop meat :)
*Obviously most of the guards in many of the zones drop their own meat.
*Many of the bandit camps, such as the one in Gfay drop the meat of their race. It's good way to get meat from your own race without becoming KoS.
*Trumpy Irontone drops dwarf meat. A bonus!
*A merchant ogre, Boomba the Big, in W Freeport has just about every kind of pickled food. If I can get back to FP I'll check it out, but if anyone wants to do it sooner...
*Has anyone tried Froglok meat, that stuff is everywhere.

That's all I can think up right now. Plz!!!! If anyone knows something, dump it here.

Also just for reference when your food or drink item says these, here's how long they last.
Snack -- Whistle Wetter
15 Minutes per 1
Meal -- Drink
30 Minutes per 1
Hearty Meal -- Flowing Drink
1 Hour per 1
Banquet Meal -- Refreshing Drink
2 Hours per 1
Feast -- ?
Not quite sure.

Sorry, my other comp is screwed up so I'm not logged in, but responding to the post above, brownie parts can be most readily found in Lesser Faydark off of brownie outcasts (40+) or the much harder brownie guards.

Never heard of it. If you can't figure out what to do with it from the surrounding citizens, you might try combining it in your tackle box with a skinning knife (made by a blacksmith) to see if it combines to make anything.

Hi everyone,

After the patch today, I found that some of the things I was carrying had stat boosting power. I'm amazed EQ finally gave us bakers something to crow about. :)

I only had three things on me, but here's what they did:

Wolf steaks: +1 STA
Mammoth Steaks: +2 STR
Fish Rolls: No change.

Also, I can't remember how they phrased it, but the Mammoth Steaks sounded like they would last much longer...

Dough Balls!!!

You know, if I'd had the foresight, I never would have sold, or allowed myself to eat, a single egg from level one. Eggs! Eggs! Eggs!

Most snakes in the newbie areas (where they are abundant) go green around level 3. So the optimum time to do that snake egg gathering is levels 1-3. Keep other food in the first inventory slot so that you wont be eating them as you go. Stack them up and put them in the bank!

Flour is cheap. As an Erudite Enchanter I found the cheapest flour at Voleen's in Qeynos. I think I paid 1 c each for it there. If your charisma is lower than mine, or your faction in Qeynos lower, they might cost you a bit more. Anyway, buy several stacks of flour.

Milk is also cheap. Milk is found at most "Walmarts" near the newbie killing areas, like the Trading Post in North Qeynos or the Trading Post in Erudin's lower square (near the Library). Buy stacks of milk and dont forget to protect them from ingestion. As a side note, since milk is cheaper than water, but not quite as easy to find, buy some extras for consumption as drink.

Mixing Bowl. Expect to pay decent money for this item. It has several slots and can be used as a container..just keep your hand off the combine button! I think I paid 1PP+ for my first mixing bowl.

When you have all these things, go find a nice quiet place and make dough balls until you cant take it anymore. The dough ball recipe is: One flour, one milk, one snake egg combined in a mixing bowl.

By the time dough balls become trivial you will have the skills to make sandwiches. And to prepare you for that day...never sell a piece of rat, wolf or bear meat!

Kneed On!

If you have 30 pp on you I'd recommend becoming a master potter so you can make your own pie tin. Otherwise find a master potter and get her/him to make one for you. I'm not aware of NPC's that sell them, although a master potter may have sold their wares to an NPC, you'll likely get a better deal by buying it from a PC.

As for the kabobs you'll have to loot some gnome parts off a giant or other mob.

Deffinatly the place for DE Meat. I spent a few hours there cleaning the place (lvl 53 druid) and between cleaning the rares, and getting revenge on the widowmistress, I killed many many many DE's, and many dropped meat. If you want this racial meat, it all over here, prolly easier to get that many other kinds (as there is no faction hit cept for Najena herself)

I understand that none of these things can be bought from a vendor (unless someone happened to sell it to one). Anyone know about how much these items cost (if bought from player's) and if they are used up when you make the recipe?
RE: Buying pots, tins, scewers, etc?
# Apr 19 2001 at 9:21 AM Rating: Default
I've bought pots and skewers from vendors in East Freeport ... the pot and skewers should come back to you but the pie/muffin tins get used up. I have yet to find any of the tins at a vendor but I'm still hoping. Any blacksmiths or tinsmiths out there on the 7th hammer server??
RE: Buying pots, tins, scewers, etc?
# Apr 26 2001 at 1:47 PM Rating: Decent
Find you a smith or a potter and have them made for you. They are not too expensive to make a plat maybe at most. Pie tins, muffin tins, cake rounds, and pots do not get used up. the only time I every lose them is when I combine them wrong, but I think they fixed that.

Can Fish Eggs be used to make A Clump of Dough?
# Apr 11 2001 at 11:40 AM Rating: Excellent
Has anyone tried using Fish Eggs to make a clump of dough? I just found out that Fish eggs are made by combining Thunder Salmon (fished in the Karanas) and a skinning knife (the one that player-smiths make for tailors), combined in a tacklebox. This yields two fish eggs. I havent tried for the fish eggs myself yet, but Thunder Salmon are very easy to get. I just wanted to know before I bother to get a tacklebox.

Stat Boosting Food is HERE!!!!!!
# Apr 09 2001 at 12:33 PM Rating: Default
According to a posting by the people actually running EQTRADERS.com, stat boosting food has been implemented into the game - as a little taste of what's been found so far, bear sandwhichs will boost strength while beer braised bear steaks will boost strength even more, but decrease intellegence.

So experiment like mad and just title your postings by what food you're giving info on.

Are you sure about that? I mean, have you actually used those items for food and seen the stats rise? Strength would be easy to notice I'd think, if only because your encumberance would be higher.

I think it would be great, but all I have ever heard about stat-boosting food is rumors. I've been living off wolf steaks for two weeks and I haven't seen any of my stats change, at least not numerically. Granted, if it did boost stats, I imagine wolf would give me a little extra speed, maybe some dex or agility.

I'll work on my old mammoth steaks, see if that changes anything.

And `vowla` I got a Chicken Patty w/ feathers.

It lasted for 2 days playing 14 hours straight.

RE: Snake Eggs

If you use gator eggs or aviak eggs you get 5 clumps of dough instead of 1. I felt silly running around the newbie zone killing snakes. I tried the others and they worked. What I noticed is that snake eggs marked as tiny, where the gator and aviak eggs are listed as small. I would like to try some that show as being maybe meduim or large. I have not gotten any yet. This helped a lot. Now if we can only find a way to get those stupid brownie parts easier so I can get above 146!! :)
