Tailoring

The tailor is able to make his own clothes and cloth-based armor and items, both for personal use and for sale to others.

What are the best strategies for using and developing the tailoring skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? What classes are best suited to tailoring? What cities are the best places to practice your trade? Can you make a profit off of tailoring, and if so how?

Post your strategies on how to best use and develop the tailoring skill, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.

You can make studded leather armor from medium quality pelts, a pattern, and the correct number of metal studs (made by smiths).

Reenforced leather armor is made from high quality pets, a pattern, and metal bonings (also made by smiths).

What I hear is (and I can't find anything in print at the moment) wis and int (which ever is higher) effects your success rate. Dex is supposed to increase your skill up rate, but same as wis/int I haven't seen anything in print confirming this. Quite a few high lvl players are spending lots of plat to increase there dex.

About the other, East Karana has more cats than anyother zone that I've seen. You can get yourself a skinning knife and convert the HQ pelts to MQ. Combine the knife and an HQ in your sewing kit and get the knife and an MQ back. Hope that helps.

Best way to raise tailoring

As of right now, I haven't put a single point into tailoring. Before I start tailoring, I want to know how long it will take before I can make 10 slot, 20% weight reduction bags and quivers. Also, how much do these sell for?
RE: Best way to raise tailoring
# Oct 19 2001 at 5:05 PM Rating: Excellent
If you are referring to a handmade backpack, it's a 10% weight reduction. I see people selling them for 100pp, but I'm not sure how many customers they get at that price. The High Quality bear pelt you need to make one is a fairly rare drop, and people sell them for around 30pp. I don't know what the market for quivers is like, I think quivers are done more to max out skill than for profit.

Fishing for Cobalt Cod in Cobalt Scar. You'll also get Dragonbay Snapper, and the ratio varies, on the average I've seen 3 to 5 Snappers to 1 Cod, so bring plenty of bait (and extra poles, guarentee you WILL break at least 1 or 2 while there). Triv is 68.

Take 1 Cobalt Cod + 1 Flask of Water in a Brewing Barrel = 1 Cod Oil

The below was pulled directly from the website 2 minutes ago - therefore IT AIN'T DEAD YET.

The internet is my friend. The internet is my friend. But my friend seems unwilling to play nice today. If you can't reach the message boards today, you're not alone. I can't reach any EZBoard site, nor can I connect to ICQ, etc. Hopefully things will settle down soon.

Nothing new of any tradeskill note in yesterday's patch ... unless someone posted a find to the boards late last night after I last read the boards. Somehow, I don't have a lot of hope for stackable pelts for halfling and wood elf cultural tailors, or the myriad of other nigglies that are still a bit awry, and likely will stay that way, with Luclin taking up so much of Verant's attention. Time will tell. Meanwhile, I'm going to take a nap ...

Reinforced black pantherskin armor has a trivial level >250. It requires a black panther skin, Yew Leaf Tannin, appropriate pattern, and 1 to 4 velium bonings. If your skill isn't already >150, I'd recommend collecting the ingredients and finding someone who's already >150 and ask (or pay) them to do the combine for you.
RE: black panter skin
# Sep 30 2001 at 7:48 PM Rating: Default
IMHO, I'd look for someone who is at least 175 or higher (probably 200+ would be better), unless you have a ton of skins/tannin/boning to blow. Even on the low end stuff (masks, gorgets, bracers), expect high failures even at 175 (1 to 2 successes per 20 attempts - and this is not based on scientific data, just my tries so far, which number about 3-400 so far)

Crystalized Silks
# Sep 20 2001 at 10:15 AM Rating: Default
I was wondering if anyone knows the recipes that use crystalized silks...I believe they are found in Crystal Caverns. I was told that the trivial skill is 118-152, but the individual did not know the exact recipe. I am really growing weary of Wu's and thought I would go this route instead. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

combine two cyrstalline silks in a normal sewing kit to make a cystalline silk swatch. This never fails and is trivial somewhere in the 20's. Then combine a silver thread, pattern, and 1 to 3 swatches to make cyrstalline silk armor. The trivials on these are only between 102 and 131. To get over 131, you'll have to go with Wu's.

If you're talking about leather padding (used in Smithing), it's trivial at 31. Requires a low quality pelt and a piece of silk thread. Combine two spiderling silks (not spider silks) to make a piece of silk thread. The thread is trivial at 15.

Prtty sure you can't make leather armor per say.

You can make patchwork with ruined pelts. It's one worse weight and one worse AC then store bought leather.

With medium pelts and various metal studs (made via black smithin) you can make studded leather armor. The actuall formulas can be found at EQtraders.com or some such site. This is slightly better AC then normal leather. think identical weight. Takes a skill in the 30's to make okay, trivials in the 40's or 50's i beleive.

With steel boning (again blacksmithin) you can make reinforced leather. AGain check website for recipe. Trivials in the 70's or 80's i think.

Beyond that you have to do Velious Tailoring for more leather like armor (though Wu's Fighitng is avalible now, as is certain bags etc. that ar player made).

Cobalt Drake I THINK is the easiest Velius leather, and at 180's I've heard it's not trivialed. HOWEVER it is worth good money. As an example...

Rich (old) Servor (ie lot of tailors) Cobalt Drake say Boots go for 500-800pp. On the newer (less competition) servors they can go for as much as 1000-1500pp. Some folks pay even more but it's not wise. More then 1500 and you could get better looted boots, or it's just more economical to let your servor age a month or three and wait till prices drop.

Thats about all i know. Hope in some small way i helped.
RE: Leather armor
# Sep 21 2001 at 9:40 AM Rating: Default
I have to disagree with the cobalt drake as their hides are hard to come by and the eggs are a pain to forage (unless you decide to kill them and blow your Skyshrine faction, since that's the only place you can get them using either method). The easiest is Arctic Wyvern, based on my experience. And I know it's not trivial in the 180's otherwise I would have made several Cobalt Drake belts by now, instead of the 1 out of 50-60 attempts. BTW, my tailoring is at 176, so I know the triv's are way higher, the AW stuff might be lower than 250 tho.

As for recommendations? I did a mix of things up to 100's, including crystalline, wu's and quivers (quivers triv at 115). I then strictly went to crystalline to 131, then Wu's to 158. If you chose to try to do any other Velious leather prior to 158 be prepared for an exceptionally high failure rate and virtually no skillups. Not recommended in my eyes. After that, other than trying to get the Small Pieces of Velium, I've been doing the Arctic Wyvern masks with pretty good success (2-4 per 20 attempts, with 1-3 skillups). Of course, you can try to make other things, but at the cost of making studs, it's better to get more bang for the buck.

For those looking to bypass having to do make this stuff yourself and don't know of anyone skilling in tailoring, there are those that will do the work for you like Zif mentioned. Some will charge you an arm and a leg to even try for you, others won't. If you're on Cazic Thule, look me up. If you can provide the supplies (i.e., the pieces of velium and cover the cost of the tempers, and the hides), I charge nothing for the attempts. If there is a success, all I ask for is a reasonable donation. More than one success, the first goes to you, the 2nd to me, and split any additional ones. Yes, this is a plug to help my skilling ; )

Also, one other note - not confirmed, but max out int/wis (at least 225) and get dex to at least 100 or more. I've seem to be able to get more successes when I do that.

Heyas peeps! I need some info on tailoring concerning the uses of it:

1) What is the biggest money maker in this skill? I want to make some money out of this and from what I've seen/heard backpacks are the biggest thing, anything else sell well?

2) Would there be any good equip for a barbie rogue coming outa this? I mean good, not reinforced crap.

3) Is it fun?

Ok, that's it fer now, buh bye.
RE: Need some info!
# Sep 21 2001 at 5:28 AM Rating: Default
Backpacks are probably the quickest route to money making in tailoring. But be prepaired for a long journey. Every combine you attempt in tailoring requires something that is dropped off of a kill. What this means is you have to kill something before you can even make a single attempt. And as you move up in your skill, the things you need to collect drop off higher and higher level mobs and get more and more rare.

As far as money making goes, you can usually buy an HQ Bear pelt (required for backpack) for 25 to 30 pp and turn around and sell the backpack for 80 to 100pp. When your skill gets up in the 130's, you can start to make and sell Wu's armor. A full set may require about 100pp worth of ingredients (assuming you kill the spiders yourself) and can sell for anywhere from 700 to 900pp. Once you get past Wu's (158+), you can start attempts at the velius armor and furs. A single peice of those can sell for anywhere from 1 to 10 Kpp.

But, plan on putting a whole lot of time into it... tailoring is not an easy skill to advance in.

What is easieast way to get up in skill and how do you make leather armor?
RE: Tailoring
# Sep 21 2001 at 5:36 AM Rating: Default
You cannot make leather armor in tailoring. You can make patchwork armor (triv 26), studded (triv 55), or reinforced (triv 108). Plus you can make a variety of silk armor (for casters) and Wu's armor (for monks). Then there's a whole assortment of armors and furs you make make with velious stuff once you get really advanced (ie >158).

To start tailoring, go out and kill spiders and combine their silks (either spiderling or regular spiders - but dont mix and match them). Then start combining silk threads (from the spiderling silk) to make bandages, then cords.

Check eqtraders.com for trivials on other stuff. I'd recommend against using your practice points in tailoring since you're going to have to combine spider silks for anything else you're going to do. So you may as well get the skill points from doing those.
