Fletching

The Fletcher can make his own bows and arrows, both for personal use and for sale to other players

What is the best strategy to develop and use the fletching skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? Can you make a profit off of this skill, and if so how? Where is the best city to practice your skill? What classes are best set to take up fletching?

Post your strategies on how to best use the fletching skill, and read those posted by others.

Superb spinneret fluid drop rates whacked?
# Jul 14 2013 at 1:18 PM Rating: Decent
The Drop rate for these are insanely whacked. I mean either they are super rare or non existent. Anything be done about the drop rate? I camped everywhere listed that they drop and got one and that was after several weeks of hunting. There's gotta be a place they drop at a descent rate. Superb silks- no prob,,, but the superb spinneret fluids are a time killer for sure. Any help/suggestions would be great!

A real guide for real fletchers ... all in one place?
# Nov 17 2012 at 4:13 PM Rating: Decent
Currently at fletching level of 202 and have been using www.almarsguides.com/eq/tradeskills/fletching

Arrows got me to 202 but now I see that I start making bows that trivial at 282.

I'm going to be going the route using vendors so that I don't have to spend an extortionate amount of time running all over the world for dropped items. Just seems like too much work.

OK ... call me lazy :)

Any other good guides out there?

I am trying to get my fletching to 300. There just don't seem to be many recipes with a high enough trivial that are not requiring rare drops or that you be a specific race/class. I have searched and searched and am just not finding good information. I need a recipe that is trivial over 300 for something that can be made from mostly vendor purchased items. With jewelcrafting, research, brewing, tailoring, smithing and pottery, there were always these type of vendor-purchased ingredient items to make. If anyone knows any recipes that are over 300 trivial, I would sure appreciate the information. And please include what recipe gives the best return on investment. I knew smithing and jewelcraft were spendy tradeskills. Was not expecting fletching to be.

If you are a wood elf the answer is easy. You will want to make Mithril Champion Arrows. Mithril is fairly easy to farm compared to so many components in the other recipes. If you are not a wood elf, but worship Karana you make steel guardian arrows using a Surefall fletching kit.

If you are neither of those, you are not going to get an easy answer. Sorry.

Have you looked at eqtraders? they have a quick trivial list that you can browse. Good luck.
Is fletching dead?
# Dec 23 2008 at 11:20 AM Rating: Decent
Seeing as how there have been no posts in this forum for 18 months or so, it appears fletching is dead.

If anyone still reads this, with the advent of the defiant weapons, specifically the bows, is it even worth continuing to raise your fletching skill to make higher and higher level bows.

As a warrior, I mainly use the bow to pull...I suppose I could use it for some damage before engaging, but for whatever reason, I don't.

So, class 4 arrows are already trivial...do any of the high-level player made bows make it worth pursuing?
Is fletching dead?
# Dec 23 2008 at 10:12 PM Rating: Decent
Long answer:

Well....a lot of tradeskills have been 'injured' with the advent of defiant gear. Cultural armors are at an all time low price and still not moving. Once you hit level 65 you can get a SoF era bow and smoke anything you will ever be able to make. You can spend a load of cash working on fletching but you will find little justification for your efforts, other than accomplishment and a cool title to wear in front of your name.

On the other hand, if you are a wood elf you can make blessed champion arrows and those are really nice. The main drawback there is that once a ranger gets his everlasting quiver aa he is only going to buy one. Sales will be slow and the complexity of making these expendable jewels is prohibitive for use by most folks.

Short answer:

At the moment fletching adds little value to the world of Norrath in comparison to the quality and availability of defiant bows. Sad but true.

Unemployed master fletcher (with Everlasting quiver AA and proud owner of a single Blessed Champion Arrow)

well i have been reading all of this stuff people decided to write about fletching and to me fletching seems kinda weak when it comes to making bows. I mean, i have seen the bows i can make at my level (lvl 54 ranger with 203 fletching) and really they are kinda sad. i would never even think about using a bow that i can make in combat because damage is terrible and some of the ranges only go to 50. so i don't understand how i could make a bow for profit if the bow sucks. maybe a nice augment on the bow would rake in some pp but there is no way i am gonna pay 100k for a nice augment to just go and sell...so please explain to me how these bows even come close to making a profit for anyone

you can locate them in the bazaar or make them yourself.

Fletching Components: file, taelosian stone, water flask
In: fletching kit, planar fletching kit, collapsible fletching kit, surefall fletching kit
Yield: 2
Also Returns: file
On Failure Returns: file
Trivial at: 188

the taelosian stone comes from chunk of taelosian rock found in GoD zones. i farm mine in natimbi but there maay be better places. seems to drop best off the land critters rather than water critters. but it's still slow going to get enough to be meaninful.

also, to process the rock to stone, you'll need to have done one of the fletching quests in abysmal sea. you'll want to check the quests listed on alla's for that portion as to how they work and which might be best foryou.
Arrowheads and such

Is there any way to add the combines for arrowheads and such to your list. Experimental creation doesn't add to list. Any way to populate and save all the redundant click and drag of other items made in your fletching kit?

The Easy way to get fletching from 202 to 227:
(Before you do Condensed flame, ice,or shadow arrowheads)

make these http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=10809&menustr=080060024000

You have to do the quest, to make serrated or discord arrow heads, first, here http://www.eqtraders.com/articles/article_page.php?article=q151&menustr=120037000000

I suggest doing the freebie quest, as it is alot faster, you can get "chunk of taelosian rock" to drop off mobs in Natimbi, or you can buy it in the bazaar.

If you want the collect quest, go here http://www.eqtraders.com/articles/article_page.php?article=q152&menustr=120037000000

Do this before you attempt to make condensed (flame, ice,or shadow) arrowheads. It will get your trivial up to 227, and you will have better luck starting condensed from there.

How do I get ones put in there?

Is it a specific expansion I need to add them?
RE: Recipes
# Mar 09 2005 at 7:49 AM Rating: Decent
Well you can hit the search button to get a list or put in part of the name like class 6 for all class 6 arrow types that you know.

If you don't know an item. then you have to make one in experiment mode first before it is added to your list.

I have gotten my fletching skill to 185 and today had a strange thing happen. The recipes for arrows and the like no longer show up. When I open my Planar Fletching Kit now I simply get a window that looks like the experimental window. I have to take items out of the bag and put them in the slots 1 at a time. What gives with this. Did I do something, did Sony or is this normal?? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Iskar poison darts/ trading
# Oct 15 2004 at 7:40 PM Rating: Default
I'm semi new at this came and am wondering about a few skill questions, specifically geared toward an Iskar Beastlord.

Question:
1. Can this class and race make poison darts?
If not, what can they make or how limited are they?
2. Is there a good way to trade items between characters? This one seems problematic now that I want to give my new character all my good equipment.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer this.

Fletching for profit

You know. I've been reading a lot of the posts above and one thing that no one is hitting on is the stupid amount of plat you can make with fletching.

I'm sitting at 186. I can make damn near any arrow there is...except magical ones. I'll sit there for hours with 2k pp and make arrow after arrow. Then I setup my little bazaar character to sell them off. You know I have about 5k pp right now and I just keep spending it all on my fletching. It's an addiction I am NOT seeking help for. I've probably made 80K on fletching in the last month alone. Setting up you bazaar character before going out on Friday or Saturday night when all the guilds are getting raids together is awesome. Even guys with good fletching don't want to waste the time making them and will by my 6dmg 150rng arrows for 1pp a piece. Most by out my stock and I have to log back in my fletcher to move over more arrows to the bazaar character.

Last week I made 5k profit on my arrows. Bows don't sell that well when people can pick up the dropped good ones for cheap.

Anyway. Good luck to all. Even if you don't use fletching to make money it's a great skill to pick up if you plan on using a bow ever.

get STR and DEX buffs from shammy before fletching, and try harder trivals.

For ex. if you are at 180, try at least 192 or 202, you will fail more, but raise fletching much, much faster.

Greetings,

It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong - unfortunately, in all tradeskills, you'll eventually come to a time when you'll have an extended run with no skillups. Smiley: frown

Having as high an INT/WIS as possible helps - INT for you I assume, as you're a SK. Using a geerlok device increases your chance of a successful combine, but not necessarily the chance of a skillup - although recent revelations of the inner workings of the tradeskill formulae at Fan Faire show that a successful attempt does give you a better chance at getting a skillup. Confused?! Smiley: confused I certainly was....

The best thing is to just keep plugging away - you will get a skillup eventually, and then two or three within a few combines - it's just the way the random number generator works.

Hope this helps, and if you want to know more about successes/skillups, take a trip the eqtraders.com message board and attempt to follow the mathematical discussion there! Smiley: grin
