Fletching

The Fletcher can make his own bows and arrows, both for personal use and for sale to other players

What is the best strategy to develop and use the fletching skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? Can you make a profit off of this skill, and if so how? Where is the best city to practice your skill? What classes are best set to take up fletching?

Post your strategies on how to best use the fletching skill, and read those posted by others.

1 when should i begin the trueshot quest.
Answer: As you generally have to make the bow yourself from the result of the quest, and said bow trivials sometime over 200 skill, the real question is what fletching skill should you have before attempting the quest. IMO, the answer to that is around 150 fletching skill. You've got to decide if getting your skill high enough to make the bow yourself is worth it, or if you would rather simply buy one. Though if you make it yourself, you get that gratification, and can make arrows too. As for actual level to do just the quest part, you're probably high enough already.

2. where do i get the quest, is it at the trueshot bows shop?
Answer: Ranger guild,(faydarks champions) in Kelethin from Maesyn Trueshot.

3. what are darkwood bows? and why are they so good?
Answer: Darkwood bows are the best fletched bows currently craftable, but are now pretty much obsolete due to the impressively better bows found in Kunark and Vellious.

The Trueshot quest is fairly easy IF you can kill Rogue or Runaway Clockworks (in the Steamfont Mountains), now is the time to start.
The quest IS started at Ranger's Guild in Kelethin with the Guild Leader.
Darkwood bows are high-end bows, good damage, good range, fast delay. They are expensive though, so wait until your skill is nearing 200 before toying with these unless you have the PP to spare. = )

He sais to ask the Koada'Dal [Where the enchanted bows ]are, but i can't seem to find what he is talkin' about. My first thought is Koada'Dal, must be somthing about High Elf Enchanters.I've gone to the High Elf city but nothing. if someone could help that would be cool . Tinweeny, Ranger of the 9th lvl

what you may be doing is putting cams, a planer, or a knife, in with a shaft that is not high quality enough for those items. only darkwood can hold two cams, and oak can hold one. some of the more simple shafts you cannot whittle or plane. keep in mind what materials go with what.

Just a little info from melissalynn

Arrows

Nock- Larger = easy to make
Smaller = Farther travel

Shaft- Wood
Bone
Porcelain
Steal - Being the best

Tip- Point
Hooked Tip
Actual Bladed - Being the Best

Fletch- Round Cut
Parabolic Cut
Shield Cut - Being the best

Put on of each in your Fletching Kit and hit combine.

I started out with the cheapest of each one till it said i couldn't improve my skill anymore with that. Then I did the cheap Nock with the second cheapest of the others. I got my skill from 0 to 33 in about an hour.

RE: class limit
# Jul 05 2001 at 5:58 PM Rating: Default
There is no cap on Fletching other than what is normal, so 200 is the cap.

All melee classes who can use a bow should become fletchers!

I have a skill of 140 and I only make arrows that I use and bows by request only. Currently I am making class 3 150 range arrows. I still gain a skill point per stack of 20 components on average and that is with the low wis/int of a barb warrior.

I'm a level 24 ranger with 75 intelligence. I have been skill 179 for the last two levels. I've combined 6 or 7 (6 slot) quivers of arrows (bladed point, steele shaft) and haven't increased in skill. I'm trying to get skill level above 180 before I try the 2-cam darkwood bow again. I've tried the bow twice at level 179 without success. I'm getting frustrated with it.

tradeskills have no class/level limit
# Jul 05 2001 at 6:00 PM Rating: Default
However, you can only get one tradeskill above 200.

NOTE: racial/class tradeskills aren't considered tradeskills, (i.e. tinkering, poisoning, alchemy) for these purposes, as I believe all three have level caps, and all three can go over 200 even if a *real* tradeskill is already over 200.

And no, fishing and foraging aren't tradeskills either for these purposes, even though they have added fishing "combines".

New Tailored Bow or Arrow Components?
# Jun 30 2001 at 5:37 AM Rating: Decent
OK, guys`n`gals, my fletching is at 202. Now the only things that can get my an improvement on my skill are either the Darkwood bows (waaaay too Exp to use to improve a skill at 250pp+ per bow!) or the legendary Trueshot (this one has way too much effort involved to get the components together, not to mention the primary component is No Drop, and when you succeed you have a Lore Item that is a little difficult to sell since it is Ranger Only).

Has anyone run into any new components to make bows or arrows with, like Velium Bow Staves, or Velium Arrowheads? I realize that the Bow Staff would be even more Expsensive that the Darkwood, but perhaps there is a recipe for making Velium Arrow points. I know there used to be a way to make the steel ones.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat Domnall. Unfortunately, there aren't any new fletching recipies that I know of, so the only way to raise our skill would be to work on Darkwood bows or the Trueshot quest...neither of which is very cost effective.

This is for Trenir. THERE IS NO FLETCHER STORE IN RIVERVALE!!!!!! I found this out the hard way. I had a lvl 10 mage (the highest i've had a char cause I've only been playin for about 3-4 weeks :P). Almost all the time I played, I worked on his tailoring. I decided to make a alt char. Halflings seemed cool considering they only have racial tensions with one race (the Iksars, duh). They also had Druids which sounded cool cause they could tp and animals wont attack them very often (although I now hate wolves....they ganged up on me, stupid....). Anyway, I figured I'd take my mage over to Rivervale and help him out (I was in Qeynos, very long walk, and I had 150pp). I died, stupid highway guy. The corpse was unretreavable so i just deleted him and continued with my broke, poor lil druid. After I reached lvl 4 (very easy cause I just did the Uner quest where you get the money for the jumjums over and over) I put ALL my practices into fletching... Only to come to the harsh relization that there wasn't a fletching store there......hmph. Long story, but helpful. Why did i take up fletching as a druid? You might ask. I'm in it for da monaaayyyy. Any new halflings out there do what i did to lvl up and don't use invis then turn it off when you're behind a highway guy.....doesn't matter WHAT the /con says he thinks of you, he considered me indifferenty then beat the helpful stuff outa me.

If you're invis, if they can't see through invis, then they'll con indiff to you, basically, that's all invis does, is change your faction to those who can't see you to indif. As soon as invis drops, bang, you're back to whatever your normal faction is, and... in this case... attacked.

Otherwise there would be no cost disadvantage to making the better bows using the tools if you kept the tools. Personally, I'm annoyed they "fixed" it so you kept the tools on failure. Now the risk is the same (monetarily) for the toolless and tooled bows, so to be fair I had to lower the prices on my tooled bows.

Listen up everybody. In the world of Norrath, at least! , I repeat, AT LEAST, every major city on Norrath (Qeynos, Freeport, Kelethin, Paineel, Ogguk, Halas, Cabilis, etc..) has at least 1 store or main area where you can buy fletching kits, parts, etc. Plus, for the nonevil races, if you're stumped still on where to get flething parts to make arrows or bows, go to Surefall Glade! It's that simple. Go to Qeynos, then to Qeynos Hills. Go through the tunnel in Q.H. (the one with 2 Qeynoys Guards and a nearby campfire. HINT: Follow the Road from Qeynos to it) Ta-da! You're in Surefall Glade. The second way is much easier, ask any high level people nearby and be polite and friendly. Odds are that they'll take the time to help you and give you directions. That's all that's to it!

Tis Not True!

All Bow and Arrow materials can be found in Surefall Glade. The lack of players in this zone also makes it a perfect place to practice, with little to no real player caused lag. Bow parts are found in the Ranger House and arrow parts are found in the house near the Druid tree. Make sure you bring your money with you though, the closest bank is in Qeynos!

Trivial?

What exactly do people mean when you write "When making arrows become trivial, shift to the next complex type." I note that the basic arrow "becomes trivial" at 16. Does that mean when your fletching skill becomes 16 you should move on to a type 2 arrow?

I guess I'm not sure what the trivial levels on some of the fletching guides mean.

I've just started, fletching skill 8 at moment.

Thanks.

Quick answer

As your skill increases, at a certain point, (16 skill for that arrow) you get a message (on success) that you can no longer gain skill from making it. (NOTE: The message used to say the item was trivial, but they changed it. That's where the term "trivial" came from) At that point, you have to make a more difficult arrow in order to gain skill

(As your skill increases, at a certain point, (16 skill for that arrow) you get a message (on success) that you can no longer gain skill from making it.) This is not a correct statemant. It doesn't matter if you are successful or not to increase your skill. When I became a Master Fletcher (101) It told me I lacked the skill to make that arrow (You have become better at Fletching!)

Felwithe is the city of the high elves, the tree city is Kelethin. The only way to Trueshot bows is from the Prime/Newbie Lift (the lift that is nearest to the PoD lift). From there it's the bridge on the far left, then left, left again, then right.
Hope this isn't confusing to anyone, sorry if it is.(If you still don't get it, try http://www.eqatlas.com/kelethinmap.html trueshot bows is #24)
