As long suspected this combine has a built in fail rate as per dev response.

As people implied/said, Black Gold Inlays have an artificial fail rate added to them. The calculator has no way of knowing or accounting for this :)

The EQTraders calculation is as accurate as anything can be when faced with something that is generated randomly and sometimes has hidden alterations.

With my trophy, my smithing skill is 336. I have the smithing AAs, and salvage 3. As an Enchanter, I can buff my intellgence to the max, and I use Night's Dark Terror for the Dex buff, and have a Shaman raise it still further until it's 498. I buff my Charisma, on the off chance that it has something to do with my success. Yet, somehow, I fail this combine more often than I succeed with it, and I absolutely dread being asked to do it. Does anyone else have this problem?

As I understand recipes, it will upgrade a radiant sphalerite of MINOR haste, Not a radiant sphalerite of haste, which has already been upgraded by a white gold inlay. Trivial is 327.

Just to be a little more specific... this will upgrade a "minor" to a "pure".
for example:

Radiant Sphalerite of Minor Haste + Black Gold Inlay = Radiant Sphalerite of Pure Haste

This combine can be done by a rogue as a poison combine OR a shaman as an alchemy combine... the results are the same with either class.
