I know for sure that I can see this recipe in a Spell Research Kit and in a Prayer Writing kit and I swear someone said in the EQ Traders channel the other night that the old containers didn't work any more.

Can you confirm this? Collect the pieces and try combining in one of the containers above for your class.

The spell research kit is NOT used for this combine. You need the elemental grimoire for mages and the equivalent for other casters.
Gortews has a valid point. However, since some spell research components can run upwards of 500pp it's something to consider. Luckily, I've got at least some of these parts on alts so I'm part of the way there.

My enchanter Book UI says this trivials at 182.
Is this just for decoration or what? I don't understand what it's supposed to do.

so you don't blow components for spells, you can waste time and get skill up on these
I believe its to practice your research and thats about it. Seems like a lot of farming to do to to save you time in farming for research components.
