Dark Elves Rule!! I play a Dark Elf Necro(24) on Zek (PVP) and they are the best. Now for me I dont care about faction I kill the races that r kos to me and pc's that hail me and con white.Humans are fools wood and high elves should be beatin on and left for dead! as for gnomes and halflings feed them to the ogres and trolls and for that you get yourself a big pet!as for anyone else they would make great slaves in our great city. This is the path I follow as a drow and i find it fun and exciting and a great challenge.I dont wanna put anyone down on the race they play but this is how we r suppose to be.Use people to your advantage Norrath is ours for the taking for to look on us and laugh is a big mistake. We r an advisary not to be takin lightly.

pick pocket
# Jul 05 2006 at 11:37 AM Rating: Decent
Pickpocketing does pretty much what it says, you can steal coins or items from NPC's.

Sometimes the NPC's aggro on you, so be careful who and where you do it.

You won't really need the skill for much till you do your epic, then you have to have the skill maxed or near maxed to do it.

Since you won't start your epic till level 50, I would wait till you are approaching that level, then go into paludal caverns and pickpocket the recondite camps. You can probably tank the whole camp simultaneously at this point, so no real worries.

Building this skill is tedious to the point of considering violence against yourself, but you have to have it to do the epic.
Dark Elf Rogue
# Jan 12 2006 at 2:39 PM Rating: Decent
Been working on a DE Rogue for a few months now, off and on with my cleric and warrior, and have him up to 30. I have to say that the Rogue is the most fun class I've played. There is always something to do with this toon. You are either picking pockets, scouting, working on hide, sneak, and detect traps, or backstabbing some mob with a sneak attack.

With my warrior and even my cleric, I've had trouble staying awake with this game, but playing the rogue has been a great experience. At level 28 a few nights ago, I got a backstab in at 191, though most solid hits range from 80 to 110.

One thing that I am wondering however, is that even though my backstab is around 140 skill, and I have a dagger with a plus 5% backstab, I have never, and I mean never got a crit on a backstab. Does this come into play later? Both dex and agi are around 150.
Finally got a crit last night!
# Feb 08 2006 at 12:23 PM Rating: Decent
At level 34, I finally got a crit backstab last night of 386! Only got one, but the LDoN was winding down. What was great was that it finished the mob. I had been working on another skelly solo in the everfrost gig while the mages and pets were taking on other mobs. I finished mine, hid and backstabbed the mob to finish it off with it having around 20% health or so.

The guys said it was pretty awesome, I just "appeared" mid stab and assassinated the thing!

Awesome!
Level 37 Gunthak Update
# Feb 13 2006 at 4:03 PM Rating: Decent
Duo with a 33 Pally last night, I got an awesome 1st strike damage against troll zombie. I knew I was headed to Gunthak, so I went to the Abysmal Sea and made about 60 Calcium Rot poisons (undead specific). I was using sneak attack, with a poisoned Blackened Acrylia Blade.

Sneak attack backstab went Crit at 362, and the poison hit for 242. That's a 604 1st Stike combo off a no-magic toon.

My buddy was using the Rodcet Nife proc on his weapon, and he hit for 224 at about the same time. So we were 828 on this mob in the first second of battle.

The night went on much like this, with me gainng a level an a half and him gaining 3 levels, as I had to step out for a bit.

A pally and rogue combo in Gunthak make really short work of the undead in this area, with pally being main tank, and me being tank when necessary, his healing and undead proc and my backstab and vs. undead poison, we killed very quick with little downtown.

Rogue Level 58 Update.
# Apr 10 2006 at 10:45 AM Rating: Decent
Dinged 58 in Karnor's Last night. Started out the day with some poisoncrafting, got it up to 214 making Iron D.

From there did the pirate MM in butcherblock. Had an exceptionally good group and we got just over 70 bricks of plundered treasure. We were on a role till a graphics glitch for a couple of peeps killed the last 5 minutes, but still got a couple of ticks of xp.

Then it was the Plane of Nightmare. We had a PoN noob with us, a 54 SK that didn't understand the finer points of pulling in this zone. He's a good player, but until you understand where to pull to, and how to pull just one, and that if in the late 50's and low 60's with a group of 4 you need to ZONE if you get more than 2 adds, it can be a bit rough.

Unfortunately, right when we were at that point of getting the system to work smooth in this zone, our cleric lost patience and bailed and the group split up.

So with 2 ticks till ding I made my way back to Karnor's Castle, a zone I knew I could easily solo. The xp was slow, but steady and an hour and a half of solo grinding later, I got my two ticks and dinged 58.

My Mrylokar's breastplace was worth every penny in this place, as it really reduced the downtime. Though the clicky can give you some carpal tunnel with V.

Also, with adds, I was really glad I had picked up my offensive and defensive disciplines, as it allowed me to stand toe to toe with as many as 3 mobs at one time with a healing potion thrown in and still walk away with around 45% health.

Sidenote, I did get a kewl little double backstab at KC for 820 and 440, plus an Iron D at 229 and a passing slash at 70, giving me 1,559 first strike and zooming off before he touched me to the pull point.

SET UP THOSE MACROS!!!

Here is mine:

First I do a hide/sneak for position and hit the Thief's Vengeance button. Then my macro is like this:
/do (backstab)
/do (pickpocket)
/do (melee attack)
/d0 (disarm)

Hope this helps aspiring Rogues. Will keep the career of Kwiknife the DE Rogue journaled on here, hoping to help those raising new Rogues, as the good advice has been few and far between for me.
Rogue Level 58 Update.
# Jul 05 2006 at 11:46 AM Rating: Decent
Kwiknife is up to Level 62 now, I took some time off and came back to the game, got him a twisted shank, worked on AA's for a bit and got him a little bit better gear.

The twisted shank a/o July 4, 2006 is 40% toward the 4th Evolve.
He has 10 AA's now, 8 of which were spent in the following

Run Speed 3
Regen 2
Innate Strength 1
Combat Fury 1 (2 aa's)

Am working on 2 more aa's to get Combat Fury 2. My best non-crit backstab was 1985, my best double backstab was 2420 (adding the two together). Get backstabs over 1,000 often. With Combat Fury, have started to get quite a few crits. I plan on maxing it out, and then moving onto the PoP AA's for additional crits, and moving the AA up each level for 62-64. Crits rock.

Spent levels 60-62 in Veks and have now moved onto Bastion of Thunder. At level 60 you can score the occasional assassinations on the light blue goblins in Veks, which is super cool, its hide/sneak, thief's vengeance, DEAD.
Rogue Level 66 Update.
# Jul 18 2006 at 1:26 PM Rating: Decent
Kwik is now a Deceiver and Marauder. Level 66 with 20.5 AA's. I maxed Combat Fury, and am after Fury of the Ages. After that, I'm gonna pick up Triple Backstab.

My time is split now between BoT, Arcstone, WoS, and Dain Missions. I got him a Grandmaster's Nightfall Helm with Aug, and placed the Dain 1 aug in the second slot this past weekend. Will be working on Dain 2 this next week.

Go back and forth between pushing to 70 and sticking with AA's. If not for the upcoming level increase to 75 announced for September, I would be staying at 66 for a while and just working on AA's. I may do that anyway.

With Combat Fury 3, I am getting quite a few critical hits now. I often get backstabs between 1,000 and 2,000, and I get doubles nearly every time that on occasion total over 2,500.

In primary I have a Death's Maw Dagger, and in secondary I have the 5/6 verson of that evolving item at 35% toward level 6. BoT is an excellent place to evolve items, I found out. I spent a few hours there last night in a good group and put that dagger through 40% of an evolve (went from 4/6 95% to 5/6 35%), as well as getting 3 AA's.

Also picked up the Rogue's Ploy Tome from the DoN merchant, but have had limited success with this tome working. It seemed to work 50% of the time in BoT, and was perfection in Veksar Nobles area, however in Arcstone, they really didn't seem to be that impressed with it.

I picked up EQPixie, and have been monitoring my DPS. When I last ran it, I only had Combat Fury 2, and the evolving dagger was a 4/6. Without haste, my DPS was around 110, with haste (level 65 potion) it bumped up to 140, using a deadly precision or duelist discipline gave me the EXACT SAME dps consecutively at +/- 170 through 3 different tests.

Facing the mob with haste I got about 110 no disc. That's all I've had time to test. These tests were run on the Veksar Nobles. When I moved to Arcstone Fallen Spirits and Champions the DPS went down about 10-15 across the board.
Rogue Level 70 Update.
# Sep 13 2006 at 11:46 AM Rating: Decent
Finally made 70 just 6 weeks before the new expansion comes out with a level increase to 75. Insert Explitive here ________.

Also recently got Kwik into a Raiding guild and have been on a few DON, MPG, and Undershore area Raids. Most of Kwik's gear ATM is a mix of Time, Arcstone/Relic quest, and GM gear with several DON and MM augs. He has an unbuffed HP of around 7,200 and AC around 1850 with ATK currently capped at 1649 till I acquire AA to increase stat caps or level up with TSS.

Built up about 80 AA, focusing at first on defensive AA then moving on to the AA that increased crit percentage and crit damage. As AA plans do, mine has changed a bit as I went on.

List so far:

Natural Durability 3
Combat Agility 3
Physical Enhancement
Planar Power 2
Fury of the Ages 3
Veteran's Wrath 2
Shroud of Stealth <<<<<<Must have AA, if had to do over again, would have nabbed this first.

As of 9/13/2006 I've turned in all signets at RSS for anguish gimp access and have completed one Raid trial. Next on the list is do the missions for ToB access and complete the MPG raid trials, or gimp in some night and loot a seal for full Anguish access.

The Open raids on the Quellious server are a MUST if you are not already set up with a good raiding guild. They helped me add about 1,500 HP to Kwiknife over a couple of months. Open Time Raids are currently being held on Saturday nights, with sometimes an early raid about 5pm but most always a midnight raid starting at 11pm Central Standard Time. Ask in general chat about specifics, it changes a bit from week to week, but you can get on a list to gimp in to the open Time Raid if your toon isn't flagged already. Must be 65+. Only a certain number of gimps can be in zone at a time, and it operates on a percentage of gimp vs non-gimp, I believe no more than 15% of the Raid force can be gimps at any one time.

what's the best class to choose for PvP when you're a DE?
RE: newbie question
# Dec 27 2005 at 11:07 AM Rating: Decent
Well this topic can be a matter of debate, but I am a Necromancer fanatic when it comes to Dark Elves. The fact that they have the pet and tap spells early make this one of the more soloable classes, which means they fare better in one on one combat such as PvP. But I would have to say something with a pet, or just go with a warrior and knock people on the head repeatedly, but watch the root :P (Just my opinion)

Out of all the evil races, Dark Elves probably have the highest number of character classes to choose from. And easily the best variety.

They can be any pure caster class (Wizard, Necromancer, Magician and Enchanter). They're also the only evil race who can be a Cleric. In spite of their decidedly cerebral nature, they can also be two of the tank classes (Warrior and Shadowknight). And they can be rogues as well. Dark Elves are advantaged at the outset with their innate hiding abilities, good starting intelligence and agility, as well as having the best night vision on Norrath.

Calcified bones of various sorts also drop off the skeletons in the Toxxulia Forest (especially the Paineel end). Of course you will have to watch out for the wandering Erudite Ambassador - and other stuff to which you may be KoS. For the record, we have had better luck in Toxxulia than in the Utricle (or anywhere else in Nektulos Forest) but we may have just had a good day ... :)

Diety is determined by class & Innoruuk I think is avail for all classes. As for Faction Rogue, Necro, Shadow Knight Dark Elves have the worst faction in the game next to Iksars. Faction can be reduced by killing X faction mobs located in newbie zones, Halflings in Neriak's Forest, Orcs Freeport, Kobolds in Swamp and Tox, gnolls in Qeynos aka sonyeQ. Halas has no faction giving mobs so it's turning in gnoll fangs using Barbarian Illusion potions or spells.
RE: Gods

Innoruuk unlike enchanters and stuff you are a respected member of the darkelf society so you are just as evil as any necromancer or shadowknight so u have only the choice to choose innoruuk.

Dark Elfs come to be some of the best warriors in the game in my opinion. The have natural high agil, dex, and int, Dex so they porc more on weapons, Agility so its harder for mobs to hit them and Int so they learn there skill at a far higher rate than other classes do. So those saying that just because of str and stamina they are not good tanks because in my opinion ac is the most important fact and darkelfs have a large atvantage over other classes in that fact due to agility. Good luck and good hunting

I agree, I loved my little DE warrior. If only I could afford to play eq again. With our high intelligence we learn our weapon skills fast. I still remember when I was lvl 45 and haven't used any of my other weapon skills except my 1hslash. I managed to get some weapons and raise my skills pretty quickly. Only problem is we have low str, but can fix that with gear, however you'll mostly likely be working on your hp/ac rather than your str. At lvl 60 my str still wasn't even at 200 yet unbuffed.
I don't remember what my hp/ac was then. But now thanks to AA's we don't have to worry too much about our stats. And I plan to max those out if I ever get back into EQ, sigh.

Look to the left collum and scroll down to bestiary then the sub section by faction.
As for KOS zones your pretty much KOS everywhere and tolerated in others i.e. oggok. Freeport militia is ok but still dangerous.
You can kill in CB if not a warrior however i would suggest PC or Kurn's tower, Shar Vhal is save for you.
Once you have a good idea where guards are you'll be fine, most newbie zones don't have wandering guards like Nektulos forrest.
When you con a mob, ready to attack or threatining don't aproach, dubious or above and your ok.

Depends on your gear.

"go to kurns untill 15 or 16 then go to Pauldron Caverns till about 24. Also blackburrow rocks till 7-10 or 11. Then go to kurns"

That is great advice if you are non-twinked. If you're twinked, you can go from the tutorial (10 or 11) to Kurns till level 14, then to PC till level 22, then to the easy side of echo (through the fake wall by the soulbinder in SH).

You can level pretty fast in echo low with a group. If its a little tough you can try the Netherbian Lair from 22-25.

Probably leave Echo low at around 28-30.

Then I would head to Gunthak till level 36 or so.

City of Mist with a group till level 45.

Then try to Gimp in at Veksar with a group (you don't have to literally gimp into veksar but to be effective you'll need to have a good group).

You can move from the Goblins till about level 50 to the undead till level 55 or so to the Nobles camp until you can get into Bot, which is I think level 62.

At 62 you can do okay with a group in BoT, or with a good group even WoS, but you CANNOT tank WoS till upper 60's, IMHO, and then I would suggest having defensive AA's before trying it. In the later levels you can try Arcstone or at 65 Muramite Proving Grounds, at 69 go to Riftseeker's Sanctum.

That will cover the best xp and quickest leveling I know of with current hotzones a/o 7/20/2006.

After all that you can actually start playing the game :-]

I heard since Dark elves basically 'suck hardcore' (I'm quoting someone) at mellee skills initially due to their laughable strength and stamina, they get an experience bonus. Which would really make sense, since the trolls and ogres get an experience penalty. But is it true? I really don't feel like skimming through 10 pages of posts to see if this was already discussed =P If so, does anyone know a reliable website that can confirm it? I'm trying to get confirmation. I'm pretty sure dark elven warriors get a bonus..but I don't know about the SKs.

Bleh. I'm impatient so I went and found it. http://www.albrandes.com/skden/articles/starting.asp

That sucks. How do humans get a bonus but DEs don't? Those BASTAGES! (no offense to anyone, just venting.)

I believe this website is out of date. Back in the Kunark and EQ Classic days, you could get a penalty or bonus on experience depending on your race/class/deity choice. SOE/Verant has fixed that long ago. Now it only depends on races. All races have NO penalties or bonuses, with the exception of the Halflings, who get a 10% bonus I believe, and the Ogres, who get a 15% penalty, and the Trolls and Iksar, who both get a 20% penalty.
