Sneak and the benefits a druid can get from it
# Dec 13 2006 at 12:34 PM Rating: Decent
This goes up to previous entries regarding halflings and sneaking and may be common knowledge.

Although your Hide and Sneak won't work like a rogues, using them separately or in conjunction with other abilities you can get around without agroing as many see invis mobs as most.

Hide as previously discussed is great to go afk and be safe without worrying about losing an invis, not many other practical apps other than that

Sneak is alot more interesting. If you are successfully 'Snuck' then as long as you are behind a mob or out of his natural field of vision, you are completely undetectable, whether the mob be live, undead, dragon, or giant. As a 65 furry druid I've still got a couple of screenshots from raid preparations sneaking up solo behind a dragon and gettin a screenshot of waving. fun and ballsy, but no risk when youre a sneaky halfun'

So basically camo/invis/innate camo yourself for the security of the nondetector mobs, make sure you've successfully snuck, and although it takes some time to master and some mobs wont be positioned that you can sneak past them easily if at all, youll probably have a lot of fun and be alot better at those difficult corpse retrievals than most any class but rogues or FDers

So Hide/Sneak = Best
but invis/sneak/patience+luck = not half bad you scoundrel

My 2cp

ok,

Y must be over 15th level to get the stone. U must all have the Lost Dungeons or Norrath expansio. Then U travel back to riverdale and speak with someone in the tavern there. Then go to Butcher Block Mountains and speak with Ironstone (I thnk that is his name) and then U will get your stone... Look up teh LDON Steon quest and get better details...

It would have been better to put this in the ranger forum, but oh well.

Yes, they used to be able to track corpses (if a group member died and was in another zone his/her corpse could be tracked). Alas, they fixed that some time ago, so we're all out of luck now.

Feel free to ridicule and scorn me as long as you answer this sooo simple question.

Trying to find an NPC -- Bipdo Hagrin in Rivervale.

I've spent two or three sessions trying to find this NPC and am getting discouraged.

Many things seem counter-intuitive in how they are set up. (Coming from a different MMORPG) Navigating cities, not getting lost. character control.

all advice/ comments are helpful

You probably already figured this one out now. But clicking on the find button will bring a list up of people you click on one of the names and click find. A mystical path appears before you and then just follow the path to the person you need. Bipdo Hagrin is on the find list. Keep in mind, some people are not on the list, such as The Wayfarers Brotherhood guy (all the way to the north in Rivervale, in the 3 "hobbit" holes)

Does anyone know what to do if a NPC says a [word] and you say that [word] back to them, and they don't respond??

Usually it tends to be like this:

NPC says, 'Hey, say the [word]'
Player says, 'Word'

...

But usually it's good to respond like this:

NPC says, 'Hey, say the [word]'
Player says, 'What word?'
NPC says, 'For real, snoops.'
Your faction standing with NPC's got better!
You gain experience!

Hehe, my bad example is just trying to say that you should usually put a "What" or a "Who" or a "Why" before the keywords. That's usually all that is needed for progressing.

Halflings make very good warriors. Many look down upon the thought of it, but they are, in my opinion either the best or second best warriors out there. Here are the 5 warrior races as follows from best to worst.

Halfling
Iksar
Troll
Barbarian
Ogre

The ogre is up there for its strength and stamina, its slight extra regen, and its bash without shield. The reason it is 5th is because of its -20 vs. fire start, the fact that it is an evil race, has a low dex and agi, and its slow xping.

The Barbarian is there for its strength and stamina, average agility, its good alignment, and its bash without shield. The reason its 4th is because it has a low dex, bad vision, and slow xping.

The Troll is there for its high strength and stamina, bash without shield, and regen. It is 3rd because it has a low dex and agi, slow xping, evil alignment, and no starting city.

The Iksar is there for its innate swimming, AC, forage (one of three skill that cannot be achieved by other warriors and items, other two are safe fall and sneak), fast xping, and average agi and dex. It is only 2nd because it is hated everywhere, and cannot where some armor that others can.

The Halfling is 1st because it has hide (helps when afk, only other warrior race with this is dark elf), sneak (can sell to anyone, helps get up faction, you get high enough faction to quest hand in), high agi and dex, fast xping, and good alignment. Its only low is its innability to wear many warrior based clothing (mainly large to medium). Just my 2 cents.
RE: warriors
# Aug 25 2005 at 12:20 PM Rating: Default
I agree with this guy on this issue, but bear in mind at high end, norrathian faction is barely a consideration, and iksar have access to pretty much all plate armor luclin and beyond (read high to top end :D), forage is always handy, and their armorclass bonus is great! halfling is best leveling up due to great faction, easy size to fit through gaps/not block others in the party in combat and of course the fact halflings have smaller levels than every other race (which makes everyone in your group level faster not just you!)

I thought this same thing also until I started getting higher levels, currently my hide and sneak are at 75 with a 26 level Ranger. Hide did not start increasing till I hit about 23 or 24. Sneaking started going up at about 20, but has stopped at 75 and so has hide at 75. The hide skill went to 60 and didn't go up again for a couple of levels, and then started going up again.
The best way I have found to increase these skills is when you're sitting resting, have hot buttons made for hide and sneak, and then click them off and on and do this everytime you are resting and they should go up.
Just remember skill improvement takes time, just have to be patient.

Sound advice from Steinhound. Make the trip to Butcherblock, you will not be disappointed, those items sell to merchants for the price stated, so you can be totally self sufficient. Plus, as long as you don't beg, you'll probably be able to get free buffs from higher levels waiting for a LDoN adventure at the wayfarers camp.

I understand that trying to afford better equipment can be very hard with your first character and I mean this in the nicest way.
Begging or asking for freebies annoys alot of people and will not set good for your future.
Farming your way there gets you respect, if you need money then may i suggest BB where the Green goblin heads and bloodvials are worth 4+ plats each, as are the greenblood insignias from the wandering ogres.
I know it's frustraiting but we've all been through it. Goodluck and Enjoy the experience.

Killed him again this time only a candle and 3 copper, oh yeah and a rat wisker. Not sure if rat wisker a rare drop or if mob is for a quest, as i said "what stupid jerk stop killing me" and nothing so maybe it is a class specific quest mob. He spawns in Freeport and runs through several zones making it hard to farm him. Mobs name was Clownposse Rawks, and aparently is guilded.

The halflings get an exp bonus. That and they have very high starting dex. The dex can make you hit more and learn skills alot faster. Their wis is ok for starting a wis caster. Their agi is also really high which means that they will have alot of ac. They are short so if you disarm something you can pick it up off the ground really quickly. In my opinion the halflings are the best race in everquest. The rogue is the best class to go with the halfling. Because all the good stats that a rogue would need the halflings have.

Sneaking and Hiding
# Jun 25 2003 at 3:04 PM Rating: Decent
I've read through some old posts... and I don't see an answer to my questions.

I have a halfling druid... he has sneak and hide. I want to know if he will ever be able to do corpse recoveries like a rogue can?

For example:
Velks - the Velium Hunters, Icy Guardians.

Sebilis - the froggies that see invis...

I've read that the Rogue hide skill is like camo or invis, except that it works on undead. I went to befallen as a 34 druid, and tried hide and sneak... and the putrid skeleton was ready to attack after several attempts.

And here is my real confusion - there is a post on eqcasters in the Rogue section in the Hide skill about a level 4 rogue doing corpse recovery in The Hole - those mobs see invis/camo - all of em.

My hide and sneak skills are both at 50, and have not budged... so my second question is, what are the skill limits for halfling druids?

If anybody out there has a higher level halfling druid... with sneak and hide... please clue me in.

Thank you.

Ok so it has been a while. But here goes. I have a Halfling Druid as well. The short answer to your question is No. Simple hide and sneak does not work on undead. If you go to Unrest and hide and get a successful hide and sit you WILL be attacked. It doesn't work like a rogue hide and sneak.

Just a word about a rogue doing corpse recovery in the hole.

If I remember correctly, posts usually say to make a rogue who worships Brell (or is it Bertox?) to do corpse runs in the Hole. Your deity apparently has something to do with faction there.
RE: Sneaking and Hiding
# Jul 02 2003 at 1:51 PM Rating: Decent
My understanding is that Hide and Sneak for Rogues is slightly different than it is for anyone else.

First, rogues get a message whether or not they are hidden. Non-rogues do not get a message.

Second, your skill will not budge since it isn't a class skill.

Third, the benefit to hide and sneak is that it works against undead, where normal invis doesn't.

Finally, Rogues can hide and sneak, and remain hidden while sneaking. Non-rogues cannot.

Now the only way for a non-rogue to tell if their hide or sneak is working is to con the mob.

I do speak from a bit of experience, I played a rogue about a year ago.

Good luck.

As a druid you will eventually be able to camo, which is better than sneak/hide (except for duration) as you can run full speed while camo'd. In rogues sneak/hide you creep along slowly which just gives more chances for mobs to see thru it if they are higher lvl than u. A druid is probably a better corse puller than a rogue b/c they can camo, and if camo fails they can root and then succor to escape to try again later. If a rogue's hide fails then its a train to zone, and if the mobs hit very hard, nuke hard or even worse if they summon, its a dead rogue. (of course if they summon a druids in trouble too.)
As a general rule a monk is usually the best corpse retriever b/c of FD. But every zone is different as to which is best class for a corspe run. Another note u can't resneak underwater if hide sneak fails but u can recast camo.

( Edit: in last update, u can now resneak underwater, prior u had to sneak on land then go into water)

I'm just going to shorten the facts here:

Rogues are the only class that can hide+sneak at the same time and MOVE without it breaking. It is not seen by most living AND undead.

Halflings have hide and sneak as racials and do not gain any more points in them. Sneak is useful for turn ins for quests and selling to dubious merchants. Hide is good for instant invis to mobs for AFKs or a bad incoming pull.

Ok, you've probably already made a paladin, but I would say out of the three, make a halfling. I myself have a dwarf, but almost want to make a second pally just to be a funny little halfling. I would say it is between Hobbits and Humans (Half Elves just don't have grand stats for pally; LOW wis). Halflings have Sneak and Hide, Infravision, and better stats than humans except STR (only 5 off), INT (doesnt matter to a pally) and CHA (which can be increased with items like steins). All can make fine pallies, but I myself like the small races.

If I might add...one thing that I have found in my 53 seasons as a halfling druid...they are truly the jack of all trades. The smarter players will jump at the chance to have a druid in group because, while they are not the best at anything (except the damage shields which rock), they are pretty good at almost everything. Druids make outstanding backup healers (but it's tough being the primary so only do it if you have to), our snares, roots, and ac debuffs are top notch, and we even have decent nukes when the opportunity presents itself. However, one of the druids best attributes that I have found is a strange kind of crowd control if there is no chanter around. You really need to be on the ball for this but here goes. When you get a pull that has one too many mobs, first snare the extra mob, then throw a small nuke if the snare doesnt' draw agro. Once you have agro draw the mob off a little ways and root him down, then proceed to dot the hell outta him. This takes the mob outta the fight until the tanks are free while softening it up for them. I learned this trick while grouped in DL in my 40's and it was worked well for me for a long time. Druids in wolf form are the fastest class save the bard, and with our other mana weapons we are perfectly suited for this action. Of course with a chanter around it isnt' so necessary, but when a mob is mezzed close to the casters, or the chanter is mezzed with a mob, it may still be usefull to pull off the mob and dot it. Trust me people, once groups learn that you know this trick, and you can teach your tanks not to switch targets everytime they hear a wolf yelp from a hit, you'll be welcome everytime.
Now I know this post was for halfling druids and I said nothing about the benefits of halflings during my long-winded rabble above, but I am a halfling and love the fact that the smallest race can pack such a wicked punch :)
Enjoy your druids all...I know I do every day.

For a good pre-luclin guide to where to hunt and at what lvl try Doogin's Leveling Guide. Although it misses any of the later zones added in the last three expansions it is still a good source of information.
In addition to the above guide you could also try some of the following:
16 - 24 Paludal Caverns Grouped killing bandits.
20 - 30 The Overthere Solo or grouped at the ledge.
25 - 40 Dawnshroud Peaks Mainly Rockhoppers, Stonegrabbers (don't bother quading them, they split up when they get low on health).
34 - 50 Jaggedpine Forest Anacondas, Griffawns/Griffons and Poachers.
The above is by no means an exhaustive list, and as a druid, once you get your port spells, you have the whole of Norrath to explore.

With regards to solo/group. I would recommend that you always try to get a group, and should you fail, then go soloing. Although it is possible to take a druid from level 1 - 60 (and probably to 65) without ever grouping, you would miss out on a lot of fun and enjoyment. At later stages of the game you will want to group, to be on raids, and so you need to get the practice in early on in order to understand what the druids role in groups is.

There are plenty of guides on quading and what and where (try looking in the library at EQDruids, and reading through the old posts in the Druid forum on this site), but:
1. Don't bother until you hit lvl34 and get Lightning Strike (your lvl5 spell Invoke Lightning just doesn't do enough damage).
2. Practice on greens somewhere like west commons before you try it for real.
Try it on one mob first, then two, three and finally four mobs once you feel you have grasped the basics.

50-55 grouped in Karnor's
55 to today PoP groups

(most of grouping in teens thru 30s done pre-Luclin, so there are better exp zones out now)

Let me tell you about an idea i had one day. I was running through Grater faydark and i had accedently attacked a nexus at the wizzy spires. Needless to say that i was killed Instantly. I was extreamly mad because i lost my exp. Through my hatered i studied the creature and i devised the most extravagant scheme ever. I was wondering if my fellow Citizens of norrath would aid me. Darkies and Lighties come together in a mass horde to take one down. "What's in it for me" a person might ask. Well i think that not only the feeling you get from uniting with all of the inhabitants of norrath to squash a common evil but a great possibilty of an uber pay off and Extream exp or maybe nothing just a cold hard defeat.I am not really sure if they drop anything or if they even give exp. They are most likely the least killed Npc in the game. I have heard of one or two being killed but to my knowlage no loot has ever been identified. There are only a couple of reasons why i have not been able to find the loot items either 1. The uber guild who took one down came up with an awsome item that they dont want to get nerfed because of 1000000 crying lowbies saying its too powerfull so they did not add it to new item lists 2. None of them have ever been killed 3. Normal Loot for lvl of mob 4. No loot :( Now i am not really sure yet of the master plan but i am thinking along the lines of a massive head on attack group attack at random with no aperant stratagey.A person could even make a mule char and lvl to 5 or 6 toe just for this battle.Toe to Toe with the Unchecked Evil of the world. Congratulations! You have just proved the theory that there is no limit to human stupidity. Clearly, you spend way too much time in darkened rooms in front of your seven-year-old computer turning a whiter shade of pale. Go outside once in a while and breathe, before your brain starts to rot from all that festering stagnation and cognitive dysfunction.Clearly, you have lost your fingertip grip on reality and have descended into an abyss of irreversible lunacy. Generally, there is nothing wrong with having nothing worthwhile to say - unless you insist on saying it. Reading your post makes blindness a wonderful thing to look forward to. As Ellen Glasgow once remarked: "He knows so little and knows it so fluently."What possessed you to think that you were capable of being entertaining or interesting to read? Any friend of yours is a lousy judge of character. Seriously, I've come across decomposing dog carcases that are less offensive to the senses than you are. Maybe you wouldn't read like such a pathetic loser if that pimple on your *** hadn't turned out to be a brain tumor.

Finally, take a look at this map. See this little tiny island, way out in the Pacific Ocean? That's where the people who care live.

(If Not Answered Here)
Ok First Off 50 Innate Sneak/Hide Good For Avoiding MoBs Or Sneak Behind Merchents To Sell To Them Hide Doesn't Work As Well For Me As Sneak Does I Use Sneak In Soulsek's Eye All The Time.
Just Keep Reusing Till MoB Cons Indif.(Even With Sneak)
Leveling Guide: 1-3 Wfp/Misty/ Any Noob Zone/
4-7 Befallen (Found Off Wc)
8-12 Curshbone Kurns Tower
13-25 (Need Luclin) Go To Paludal Caverns First Go To Nexus Get Buffed Crazily Etc
Alternate: Stay At Kurns Till 15-17 Then Go To Paludal Still Great Exp Till 25.
25-37 Soulseks Eye Dangerous Zone If Not Twinked Try To Get Healer Parnter Or If Healer Try To Get Tanker. Other Than That GREAT EXP.
38-45 Sol B Off Of Soulseks Eye Dread Lands Sand Giants (For Loot Also) Specs (Can Do With Sand Giants)
46-51 Karnor's Castle Is Good Can Do All The Way To 60
52-60 Sebillis/Velketors Lair Etc.

This Is Used For Extremely Fast Leveling And Good Loot Along The Way I Hope I Helped Everyone Enjoy

The Least Played Halfling Class Is Pally Or Ranger
All Halfling Classes Have Different Abilities Which Make Them Fun To Play And They Have Disadvantages Which Are Burden At The Same Time.
But, They Are All Fun And Good To Be Try Em All )\

If Question Wasnt Answered Email Me At Reaper32120@aol.com

Any halfling class is a good class, They have great starting stats plus their exp bonus is definiately awsome - The rogue i would have to say would be the best! But they also make great races for any of the classes that are able to be played. They have a nice starting wis for the healer classes and great base and dex agility for the melee classes.
