Yes, you have a good point-- wood elves ARE the best-- the best at screaming like little girls when I get my paws on them and take my first bite. Every wood elf I've met has been a little stringy, but when you are hungry you can't be choosy. High elves are the plumpest, due to their easy living in Felwithe, and therefore my favorite among the elven races, but for fiber in the diet, the wood elf can not be beat.

I see dem elves prancing and dancing around like little girls and it reminds me of dis joke I heard in Grobb. It goes like dis...

Answer: da elf is da one making da "swishing" sounds as he moves.

Right just because i'm an elf does not mean i am gay! infact elves tend to be more masculine than most males, for the sheer fact they they are stronger, faster, far more intellegent, and btw WE SHOULD BE STRONGER, since elves have a differnt muscle and bone stuctures that take more advantage of there smaller form, actually making them stronger than the average human.. now for maybe an ogre i dun think we can handle that in str, hehe but then again, what can an ensnared ogre with drones of doom and fire bathing his body can do against a wood elf druid who he can't even see since he has blended into the forest?

Ah, there. Much better.

Ok, W.E.s are strong?!? Masculine?!? Are we speaking on the same subject here? That pixie trickster you just caught must have slipped you some peyote in your rations! The last time the words Wood elf and strong were used together in the same sentence was when I said odor. Come on, now-- Wood elves are synonymous with Girl Scouts. Even High elves agree with me on that!

However, Wood elves give me fiber in my diet, but I haven't come across Metamus-elves on the grocery shelves yet, so until an industrial strength laxative is invented, Wood elves are it.

Nope. I won't.
When I first began this game in '99 I started with a Wood Elf Ranger, thinking that it would be similar to other RPGs I have played. Once I logged on, I realized that every person and his brother was an elf and they all seemed to be located in Kelethin. Between the crowds and the fact the archery component to being a Ranger isn't at all what it traditionally is in an RPG, I decided to make a human monk and a troll shaman.
Heheh. Understand this was when those two choices were considered unusual and avant garde. Sure enough, now there are hundreds of them too...

RE: HOW DO YOU KITE

First of all, it would behoove you to have SOW. First you cast snare on the target, and then a Damage over time(DOT). Run back and continue casting DOTs or whatever you like. Do this until the target is dead. Easy enough.
RE: HOW DO YOU KITE
# Feb 24 2001 at 9:03 PM Rating: Default
now that is the way to do it excpet i root them im a lev 37 ranger
RE: HOW DO YOU KITE
# Dec 08 2000 at 4:05 PM Rating: Default
Problem with that is that DoT's lose effectiveness when the mob is running towards its target. DoT's effectiveness is best when the mob is standing still fighting or running away. Therefore best kiting method is to snare and DD. Although at low levels doing a Snare, DoT, Damage Shield, Melee is more mana effective.

RE: HOW DO YOU KITE
# Nov 06 2000 at 3:00 AM Rating: Default
Kiting refers to rooting a MOB. You then cast a DOT spell on the MOB. Run away or meditate to do it all over again.
RE: HOW DO YOU KITE
# Nov 06 2000 at 5:33 PM Rating: Default
Actually the way i have been told to kite is to get SoW or Wolf Form casted on you(not Quite needed but helps ALOT) Snare the MOB run away and cast a DoT then run away and nuke it with DD till about a bub of health left on mob then go and melee untill dead. the Rooting tactic is the wizard favorite Root & Nuke.

RE: HOW DO YOU KITE
# Nov 14 2000 at 9:12 PM Rating: Default
Don't bother doting, nice to practice your conj. but it's rather pt.less to dot, much eaiser to just nare, nuke
RE: HOW DO YOU KITE
# Nov 21 2000 at 9:55 AM Rating: Default
There are, as explained in earlier posts in this thread, multiple ways to kite. One of my favorites with things like griffins is to use fear kiting. Make sure you have your target on tracking, then snare it, fear it, and cast a DoT. Sit down and med and watch to see when your fear wears off. When it does stand up and repeat the fear (and snare/Dot as needed). This can be done quite effectivly if the Target does not resist your spells, to take down things you might not be able to handle in melee and since your sitting and medding while your target is dotted and feared you can easily get in another shot or so. I suggest you start your casting when the target is just out of range. It is better to get the message that your target is out of range than to have the mob on you and interupting your casting.

Happy hunting

For all you Wood Elf Warriors out there, make sure you pick the right god or you may be KoS with the Dwarf Guards. I found this out the hard way, I was Twinking my new Warrior (I had bags full of Kiola Nuts) and ran into the entrance of Kaladim. I made it passed the first 2 guards (still not sure how) but the next set of 4 slaughtered me in about 0.2 seconds. I had to get my brother to make a character and drag my body out of the entrance so I could retrieve it. Maybe this is obvious to everyone, but just keep it in mind when you're starting a new character.

Those of you out there actually wanitng Wood Elf rangers (despite all the propaganda saying they stink) I suggest you REALLY work on your weapon skills. Rangers get snare at level 9, and this makes it much easier to do Crushbone for Rangers.

As for the rest of the world, rangers can either do Crushbone + Dagnor's Cauldron + Estate of Unrest to 20 OR go for Blackburrow + Qeynos Hills + Western Karana to areound 19 or so when scarecrows stop giving good experience.

Oh, and definitely get a bow :)

Verant still needs to address the situation that occurs when Rangers move up to the upper levels. The "balance" issue is one that has been quieted for a time with the new experience and grouping patch, but eventually it will need to be faced.

In the meantime, make yourself a troll!

As for upper level balance, Rangers being able to cast without it re-qeue-ing their weapon delay is a BIG help... doing almost twice as much damage as I was before. Now if we could get a Weapon crit with something besides a bow... THAT would be something... Pally's and Warr's both get them... Pally's have spells AND bash (they can stun and they interrupt casters better than we do with kick). Any clear ideas on why we can't crit with weapons besides bow AND get crappy as heck armor?

Level 7 is a bit of a hell level if I can remember. Best things to do is either head to the bandit camp in GFay and solo or get a partner. Bandits there are 7-9 mainly. Other thing is to join a group in Crushbone. At level 7 you have aquired the spells that will be your best friends for your life. Harmony and Snare. If you head to the bandit camp cast Harmony on any bandits that are present (watch for the blue ring to appear around the waist to make sure it took) then cast snare on one bandit pull them down the hill a bit and melee tossing in a whirling wind or fire burst on occasion. One that bandit is dead heal up rinse and repeat.

Here is what i did: I went to WK(not needed but great exp there) and get a Great staff. Not a worn great staff or warpeed great staff but a great staff. I hit for 20 damage with it and it helps a bunch when meleeing. then i would find a group and play caster till oom then i would just beat it to death with a great staff.

What you have to do is solo. Then you dance around orc hill while camoed. You need to con one blue and make sure no others are in the area. Then you need to root it and Use Flame lick on it. then just blow the **** out of it until your grasping root leaves. Then melee it to death, snare helps you might want to save some mana for it.

GO TO BUTCER BLOCK It's wonderful exp if you've been buffed and ONLY if you've been buffed with a whole lot of high lvl druid/cleric/enc buffs you could easily take that yellow scarab you've been dying to try. I did just that, and I am now lvl 8. I did it in a day, with occasional buffs.

I chose a wood elf for size, style & balance. With a naturally high dex/agi and not the worst strength, I maxed his strength for a high Agility & Strength with low Stam and Reasonabley good Dex. I was unexperianced when I chose but it's working ok still.
Woodies have a major bonus in the way they can forage, and better that they hide when recovering as has been said. Sure it's not a brilliant hide but it beats the hell outta nothing. Many a cent and gobbo have passed me buy.
Post 20 I'm teaming with my druid friend and a cleric and we have no problems handling things, we work well, unless we're venturing into unknown territory we can handle troubles. I'm not a big meat shield but with some good weapons I've been a good damage dealer instead.
And I like to have a stack of arrows and my bow handy.

Better yet, max your agi and put everything you have left in DEX. Forget STR. Buy every piece of dex and agi equipment you can find. Work yourself up to lvl 16 and put large mnumbers of skill points into dual wield and double attack.

I have a lvl 17 wood elf warrior. He hits at least three times a round, with 5 attacks a round not uncommon. He is tough to score on, so a lower STA just doesnt matter.

Wood elf warriors rock!

hmm i hate to tell you this but quad hits for warriors are restricted to lvl 30 so the most you could do in one round is 3 attacks and a kick or ghetto bash...would be tough to get the ghetto bash and all 3 attacks in but i bet its possible. anyway so there is no way you do '5 attacks a round' at lvl 17. it might look that way but you are not.

I am lvl 40 woodelf right now on Tallon Zek, a lot of people are allways saying that I am one of the worst... All they think about when it comes to a warrior, is that he should be a tank. I am not playing to be a "tank", I am playing to kick some a**. I am a dueling maniac and can rip stuff apart real fast. Sure I have low str at the begining, but there allways those things called spells and magical armour... Since my dex and agi are high, my ac is really nice. I am able to run fast when it comes to PvP (good for getting out of casters range fast) and I interrupt them quite a bit. So who ever is saying that the woodelf warrior sucks, needs to get on TZ and fight me, cause I will rip you to bits. P.S. Gnomes and Halflings...respect them, they are cool for not being a plain human in a fantacy world. G'luck to ya.

Ryltar's comment about armour

Ryltar says that non-elf races are restricted to armour the same size as them.

Not true. Barbs can wear large OR medium armour. That kills that great theory ;)

Every time you kill a Crushbone orc, your faction with the Ingido Brotherhood is going to go down - and given the likelyhood of you killing a couple of hundred crushbones, it's probably a good idea to know who the Indigo Brotherhood are.

These bad boys are Dark Elves and the first time I ran into them was in West Commons, which is west of Freeport and home to the dungeon Befallen. There are at least two dark elves there who will KOS to good races and a least one of them cusses you out in the name of the Indigo Brotherhood. There is also an occasional Dark Elf along the coast to the right of Freeport Docks (East freeport) and one in a group of Dervishes in North Ro, south of Freeport.

Good advice to all Woodies heading Freeport way is to watch out for these lads and lassies, because they'll have your head in a wink. Kidzean Gix of West Commons is particularly nasty and much harder than he cons in my experience.

Of course... Since you're a wood elf, they'll kill you, anyway.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 19 2000 at 3:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Kizdean Gix is actully a member of The Dead a necro guild in Neriak if you have bad faction with them you will run into problems with him but Im pretty sure he isnt a member of the Indigo Brotherhood they are primarily thieves in Neriak and the bankers in Neriak are members of this faction so unless you do any serious banking in Neriak and cant afford to run the few zones over to hit North Freeport and bank their I suggest u try and keep your faction up with them
