This is the 8th Garadain quest. It is an all out war against Chief Ry'Gorr and his troops.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Thank you, ______, your service to our people has been most helpful. The time has come for our people to make war with the Ry`gorr. They must pay for their transgressions against our people. We are just waiting on you. Prepare yourself for glorious battle and tell me when you are [ready].'
Your faction standing with Coldain got better.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse.
You gain experience!!

You say, 'I am ready.'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Very well, ______, give me the Adamantite ring and I will give you the marching orders. Once the orders are given to Gloradin in the next hut, we will be underway. You then must follow me to what will be our battleground. I must warn you, I will hold your ring until the head of Chief Ry`gorr is given to me. If we fail, all will be lost... for both of us.'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Give this to Gloradin and return to me immediately, it is time. May Brell be with us!'
Your faction standing with Coldain got better.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse.
You gain experience!!

As you can see, the 8th quest is tough. You only get ONE chance to do it right. Once you give Garadain your ring, you must kill Chief Ry'Gorr, loot his head, and give the head to Garadain. Ry'gorr only has a head during this event. I am unsure if you can do the quest if Garadain dies. Most likely, if he dies during this event you won't be able to complete the quest. You only get one shot at this, because you lose the ring.

This battle involves 30+ rygorr, including some low 50's. This probably requires a well-tuned team of 55-60th level snare kiters, or alternatively a full 30+ PC army.

Upon hand-in to Gloradin:

Gloradin Coldheart says 'Thank you. I will return to the Dain and inform him that the battle is underway. Please escort Garadain to the battlefield and see that he returns safely. May Brell bless you and bring you victory over these beasts.'
You gain experience!!

Garadain starts to walk towards the Orc fort.

You say, 'Hail, Garadain Glacierbane'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Follow me closely, friend, time is of the essence. I will describe our situation as we walk.'

Your pulse quickens in anticipation of battle!

Garadain Glacierbane says 'The Dain's own royal troops will be at our disposal for the battle. This is good news, they are hardened, experienced soldiers. The bad news is that our sources indicate that the Ry`gorr have been alerted to our presence and will be ready for an attack. This is most unfortunate... They will not go down without a fierce fight.'

You hear the pounding of Ry`gorr war drums.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'It is of utmost importance that you stay with me throughout the fight. Your focus must be on killing Chief Rygorr and keeping me alive, mind that you do not become distracted. If I fall the Dain's men will retreat and you'll definitely be cut down.'

Garadain Glacierbane groans, 'It is worse than I thought. Not only are they prepared for an attack, but they have the Kromrif here to help them. Our steel will be tested today. Be sure not to show the troops any fear.'

Garadain walks away from the Orc fort to arrange his troops on the plain to the north.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'TROOPS! FALL IN!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Listen up men!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'You all know why we're here. For decades these savages have menaced our people. Recent events have been too much to bear and the Dain has declared war! We will stop at nothing short of the Ry`gorr's annihilation!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'No longer will we tolerate their heathen presence in our lands! Never again will we mourn the loss of a Coldain to these pawns of the Kromrif! Our deeds here today shall make this land safe for Coldain for all time!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Today the Ry`gorr fall! Tomorrow the Kromrif!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Fall out men!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Stay back from the initial charge, my friend. We will go directly for the chief once the troops are engaged. Follow me closely!'

Garadain Glacierbane shouts 'For the Glory of Thurgadin! CHARGE!'

Once you've looted the NO TRADE Chief Ry`Gorr's Head, give it to Garadain.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Good work friend! The Dain will hear of this right away. We couldn't have defeated the Ry'gorr without your help. Take this ring as proof that you have served the Coldain well. You may wish to show it to the Seneschal should you ever stop in our fine city. Farewell, ______, it has been my pleasure knowing you.'

Coldain +35
Dain +8

Your faction standing with Coldain has been adjusted by 35
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV has been adjusted by 8
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse.
You gain experience!!

Gloradin

Is Gloradin spawned during the quest? or does she have to be up first? I can never find her up. I'm beginning to think that if I hand Garadain my ring, Gloradin will spawn. Is that how it works? or do I have to wait till I see Gloradin up before I hand in the ring?

No she has to be up first and she is on a 24 hour spawn time. So, your best bet would either be to try and decide when the ring war was last done and camp her around that time (more than likely around mid afternoon or so) or, wait until a patch and try to get her as soon as servers come back up, and if you miss her then, you at least got a general idea of when she'll be up again.

Can the song of highsun be used to gate Garadain back to his spawn spot and thus avoid him getting into trouble before handing him the head?

No, the quest version of Garadain despawns as soon as someone hands him the head. The regular version will eat the head if you give it to him.

Is it possible to harmony garadain so he doesnt attack and aggro anything on his way into the fort if you were to wait until then to get hand him the head?. I know it worked for the earlier quests when you can just harmony everything to keep people safe like on the rabid bear one. Some people say here that they had problems with garadain attacking green mobs and because of that getting lots of adds, so was just wondering if harmony would work.

No, this is just a small war. The ring war is done in Great Divide, and usualyl consists of 120-150 PC's running around in organized groups killing multiple squads fo giants in 3 waves, which get progressively harder each one.

Yes, I set myself a task the day before yesterday to get the 8th ring, I was bored...

Yesterday evening, I was a happy owner of a Velium Coldain Insignia Ring.

Solo'd everything except had a Rangers' (oh the shame of it all) help to kill Warden Bruke, when I found out he resisted my DoTs, (I already knew I couldn't snare him, but if I can solo The Spire Lord, I figured what the heck).

As for soloing the 8th, as a druid, I bound at the Ry`Gorr fort, handed in the note to Gloradin Coldheart, gated back to the fort, invised, and waited for Chief Ry`Gorr and his entourage to spawn.. Harmonied from a distance him and his buddies (just to be safe) and epic snared him, gated out of the fort, waited for him to pop on my head, rooted, dotted and nuked to death.. Looted head as Garadain was just about to enter the fort, gave him the head, and proceded to watch the little ankle biters smack down the big guys.

Good fun.

Thank you. Yes, that's exactly the case.. I bound OUTSIDE the Ry'Gorr fort, near the exit from Crystal Caverns, ran over and handed note to Gloradin, gated BACK to the OUTSIDE of the fort, invised myself, ran in, harmonied and tagged Chief Ry'gorr, gated BACK out of the fort and waited for Ry'Gorr to spawn on top of me due to his inability to path directly to me.

I have subsequently done this quest again for my rogue, and instead of binding, invising, gating.. I just levitated to the wall to the right of the spawn point (out of range of newly spawned orcs and giants outside the fort), and agro'd from there, then pull Chief Ry'Gorr to the CC exit to kill solo.

Sheesh. You got the last name "the Fire Caller" from the fabled Tunare event in GFay.. as well as a Prime Healer.. um.. Bulvark or whatever? lol. You must be the King (..or Queen) of GM Events eh? I'm surprised a GM let you get the Breastplate since he saw you with your name like that lol. Whats next "insert name here" the water caller of the nexus? x.x

Heh, what can I say? I just enjoy "proper" GM events, ie ones with a story, not just 4 chickens/gorillas/cacti systematically killing everyone in sight until the GMs are bored, whereupon it becomes a ninja fest as to who gets the Golden black pearl choker and

It's about time they finished the Firiona Vie storyline though, the last event I am aware of on this story told that our fair princess Firiona was required to travel to Velious, but unfortunately that's not happened yet.

You -CAN- get the head on one attempt and turn it in to Garadain during the next attempt. What this means is that you will either need to work your way back up to the 7th ring again (which would suck) or **** someone over after they turn in their 7th ring (which would suck worse.)

After you hand the marching orders to Gloradin, Garadain will repop. THIS is the Garadain you need to hand the head to. If you hand the head to the regular Garadain he will eat it and you won't get the ring.

PLEASE wait until the dwarves have engaged the orcs at the fort before handing in the head. Garadain will give the order to charge then wait a few moments before charging in himself. There is plenty of time to hand over the head before he actually gets to the fort.

Garadain despawns as soon as you hand him the head. If he hasn't ordered the dwarves to charge then they never will. I believe that they WILL despawn automatically but the orcs and giants in front of the fort WON'T. I've seen them hang around for days before a high level group was finally kind enough to come clear them out.

I've also seen the orcs and giants get double-spawned. This came about when someone screwed up the battle, then someone else came along and started the battle again (24 hours later.) With the double-spawn the dwarves got completely wiped out and barely made a dent in the defenders forces. It would seem that the orcs and giants can NOT be cleared simply by restarting the quest, so beware.

GMs WON'T come and despawn the giants/orcs. I and many others have petitioned over and over and you either get a generic 'thank you for bringing this problem to our attn. blah blah blah" or "What problem? There's no problem. They will despawn evetually." By 'eventually' they mean 'at the next patch.'

One other thing worth mentioning. I have, on multiple occasions, seen someone not involved with the quest ***** it up. I've seen ******** idiots try to 'steal' the chief and end up dying in the middle of the battle out front, and I've seen damned fool idiots decide that RIGHT NOW would be a fantastic time to try to run into CC uninvis'd, aggroing a group or MOBS right into Garadain. Your best bet is to start it early morning, something that isn't always possible given the rarity or Gloradin.
Got my 8th Ring Tonight
# Sep 21 2001 at 6:20 AM Rating: Excellent
Just before the emergency patch I got my 8th ring. We had a group of 6 inside the fort and 1 person follow Garadain around. 60 Bard, 57 Warrior, 57 Enchanter, 56 Cleric, 54 Druid, 53 Ranger and a 49 Ranger that followed Garadain around. I turned in the ring and then gave Battle Orders to Gloradin. The quest started. Sadly one of the mobs aggro'ed on our group since we sat to close to the wall inside the fort. Next thing we know 4 lvl 50 giants and 3 Oracles started to mess things up. After losing 3 poeple and rest zoned only I since I hadn't gotten back to fort yet and the Ranger following Garadain was left. I was able to harmony and snare the chief. I got one aggro of an Oracle along with. I snared him and started kiting. Luckily the others that lived zoned back and finished him off. I got the head but started to think was I too late was Garadain dead. Luckily we had the ranger shadow Garadain. He saw Garadain run into the fort and aggro Firbrand the Black and 2 Gaints. The ranger did a suicide run and aggro'ed them out to leave Garadain alive inside the fort alone. I turned the head in and got my 8th ring as a reward.

I just want to say thank you to my guildmates who helped my get the ring...

Just to help out others trying the quest 3 people around 55 or so could safely kill the chief if pulled alone. But I reccomend the extra help for any mishaps like we had.

You are the best and sacrifice your time and exp to help me. If not for everyone's effort we could have failed at 3 different points but each of you stepped up and we did it. Everyone got back as soon as they could and jumped right back in to help.

In forms of loot we only were able to kill the chief and oracle so we got the Spine Chill Spear and Shield of Oracles.

As soon as he says charge and the dwarves start fighting, you can turn in the head, the safest way to do it is to have 2 groups inside fort, kill chief, loot head, and kill the reamaining commanders , firbrand, and the oracle, then you wait for garadain's charge, game mechanics are supposed to make garadain charge directly into the fort while his 50+ dorf buddies take out the orcs and giants, unfortunately, when I did it yesterday, for some reason, he stopped to kill a green centurion, promptly aggroing 10 orcs on him, and YOU CANNOT hand him the head mid fight, so prolly best way to do it is to invis, run out, and hand him head as he charges.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 01 2001 at 11:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Quest is very easy, i'm a 60 druid and did it solo with no probs at all. Soon as I handed in note, i went to fort, killed chief, ran back to garadin when he was talking to the troops, handed him head just as they started to rush, got ring. They still fought and royally assraped the giant/orc army. Kiting him is not necessary at all, just get a high lvl to solo pull chief, and you can take up to 5 min killing him before the dorf army even arrives at the fort.

Loot Feast!
# May 09 2001 at 8:47 AM Rating: Decent
This is a loot feast if you have a good group! We had 2 Dark Embers, a few Fang necklaces, the spear the chief drops, and an Oracle Shield or 2. And we didn't even kill half the high level Orcs or gaints. We just hung out in side the orc fort.
After killing the chief and a few of the orc healer the dwarves whipped out the orcs and giants! : )
Eighth Quest..
# Apr 22 2001 at 10:45 PM Rating: Decent
Hails folks!

When I was completing the eighth quest, here's what I did:

I had two groups of people inside the courtyard, to include a 60 MNK and 55 DRU. They cleared the few mobs in the courtyard. Myself and my druid wife were outside and I turned in my 7th ring to Garadain. Garadain gave me orders to give to the female cleric in the other tent. I shouted a warning to the zone and promptly gave her the orders. (We DID NOT snarekite Garadain. You have what I consider ample amounts of time to get the head to Garadain before he charges the fort.) When I turned in the orders, the mobs spawned inside the Ry'Gorr courtyard. The 60 MNK pewled the Chief from the pack and they proceeded to slaughter him. Outside, my druid wife invised me and I ran into the fort to loot the head from the corpse. (I wasn't in the group that got the kill, so I had to wait even longer before the corpse was open to me for looting. I think I ate four or five of my fingernails waiting and constantly clicking.) Once I was able to loot the head, I got invised and ran back outside.

Here's what most people DON'T know. (I had my wife watch Garadain and follow him while I was doing all this.) Garadain does NOT run straight for the fort. First, three packs of six KEWL looking soldiers form up. Garadain then calls them all together to one large group, which looked AWESOME. Garadain spent 1-2 minutes pep-talking them about how d0rfs ruled and giants sucked. This was when I turned the head into him and received my 8th ring. When I turned in the head and got my ring, Garadain despawned and left his d0rf army standing, waiting his order. The Ry'Gorr fort and its giants also did NOT despawn.

It IS safe to give Garadain the Chief's head during his pep-talk to the Coldain army.

THEORY: It might be possible that you wait for Garadain to give the actual "CHARGE!" orders. Then once the battle commences between them all, you hand Garadain the head and receive your ring. This way, the Coldain army beats the living poopie outta the Giants and cleans things out for the Ry'Gorr fort campers.

I did this quest tonite, killed the chief, looted the head, and turned the head into Garadain <who was kited during the war to avoid his death> He promptly ate the head then ran to his death. Also 2 orc/giant armies spawned, and have been standing there for the last 2 hours, making the orc fort a bit tougher to hunt in =)

Be careful when doing this quest
When exactly do you turn in the Chief Head?
# Apr 06 2001 at 1:25 PM Rating: Default
On the 8th stage of the quest, the war against the Orc stronghold, when -exactly- do you turn in the Orc Chief head to Garadain? Can it be done after he says 'attack'? or does he need to path all the way into the orc fort first? Does he say anything that gives us some sort of indication of when he's become the version of himself that will give up the reward ring? I've seen people give him the orc head too early in the past and watched him path into the hoards of the orc army to meet a quick demise even though the Chief and his company were all dead. Someone who has successfully done this quest and gotten the 8th ring please, -please- fill me in on the details of when -exactly- the orc chief head can be turned in for the 8th ring.
Thank you in Advance.

The Shield of the Eighth does NOT stack with ranger Call of the Earth.

This does suck, as Call of the Earth is (IMHO) mainly for it's AC buff and not for its damage shield.

Does it stack with the Druid / Ranger self-only damage shields, such as Barbcoat and Bladecoat? If it doesn't stack with the Wizard's then I wonder if the Wizard's stacks with Barbcoat?
