This is the 8th Garadain quest. It is an all out war against Chief Ry'Gorr and his troops.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Thank you, ______, your service to our people has been most helpful. The time has come for our people to make war with the Ry`gorr. They must pay for their transgressions against our people. We are just waiting on you. Prepare yourself for glorious battle and tell me when you are [ready].'
Your faction standing with Coldain got better.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse.
You gain experience!!

You say, 'I am ready.'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Very well, ______, give me the Adamantite ring and I will give you the marching orders. Once the orders are given to Gloradin in the next hut, we will be underway. You then must follow me to what will be our battleground. I must warn you, I will hold your ring until the head of Chief Ry`gorr is given to me. If we fail, all will be lost... for both of us.'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Give this to Gloradin and return to me immediately, it is time. May Brell be with us!'
Your faction standing with Coldain got better.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse.
You gain experience!!

As you can see, the 8th quest is tough. You only get ONE chance to do it right. Once you give Garadain your ring, you must kill Chief Ry'Gorr, loot his head, and give the head to Garadain. Ry'gorr only has a head during this event. I am unsure if you can do the quest if Garadain dies. Most likely, if he dies during this event you won't be able to complete the quest. You only get one shot at this, because you lose the ring.

This battle involves 30+ rygorr, including some low 50's. This probably requires a well-tuned team of 55-60th level snare kiters, or alternatively a full 30+ PC army.

Upon hand-in to Gloradin:

Gloradin Coldheart says 'Thank you. I will return to the Dain and inform him that the battle is underway. Please escort Garadain to the battlefield and see that he returns safely. May Brell bless you and bring you victory over these beasts.'
You gain experience!!

Garadain starts to walk towards the Orc fort.

You say, 'Hail, Garadain Glacierbane'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Follow me closely, friend, time is of the essence. I will describe our situation as we walk.'

Your pulse quickens in anticipation of battle!

Garadain Glacierbane says 'The Dain's own royal troops will be at our disposal for the battle. This is good news, they are hardened, experienced soldiers. The bad news is that our sources indicate that the Ry`gorr have been alerted to our presence and will be ready for an attack. This is most unfortunate... They will not go down without a fierce fight.'

You hear the pounding of Ry`gorr war drums.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'It is of utmost importance that you stay with me throughout the fight. Your focus must be on killing Chief Rygorr and keeping me alive, mind that you do not become distracted. If I fall the Dain's men will retreat and you'll definitely be cut down.'

Garadain Glacierbane groans, 'It is worse than I thought. Not only are they prepared for an attack, but they have the Kromrif here to help them. Our steel will be tested today. Be sure not to show the troops any fear.'

Garadain walks away from the Orc fort to arrange his troops on the plain to the north.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'TROOPS! FALL IN!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Listen up men!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'You all know why we're here. For decades these savages have menaced our people. Recent events have been too much to bear and the Dain has declared war! We will stop at nothing short of the Ry`gorr's annihilation!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'No longer will we tolerate their heathen presence in our lands! Never again will we mourn the loss of a Coldain to these pawns of the Kromrif! Our deeds here today shall make this land safe for Coldain for all time!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Today the Ry`gorr fall! Tomorrow the Kromrif!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Fall out men!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Stay back from the initial charge, my friend. We will go directly for the chief once the troops are engaged. Follow me closely!'

Garadain Glacierbane shouts 'For the Glory of Thurgadin! CHARGE!'

Once you've looted the NO TRADE Chief Ry`Gorr's Head, give it to Garadain.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Good work friend! The Dain will hear of this right away. We couldn't have defeated the Ry'gorr without your help. Take this ring as proof that you have served the Coldain well. You may wish to show it to the Seneschal should you ever stop in our fine city. Farewell, ______, it has been my pleasure knowing you.'

Coldain +35
Dain +8

Your faction standing with Coldain has been adjusted by 35
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV has been adjusted by 8
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse.
You gain experience!!

What's it mean when a 47 SK and a 65 druid sit at the camp invis?

They said they were working on the 4th quest when asked.
Yeah, right! That's why they're watching Garadain like a hawk (invis) and haven't handed in the invasion plans to kill Scarbrow yet.

Oh well, I'll just have to do this some other time... After I wasted 30+ minutes of 4 guildmates time.

Thanks to all who warned that this quest could be stolen. I'd be out several hours of work otherwise.

Actually there are about 30 Orcs and 15 Frost Giants on the outside of fort then 2 FG leaders inside along with the Chief and some named. The only safe way to do this is to have a level 60 + single pull the Chief.

Had chief rygorr down to 8 percent health and he death walked into the wall and warped to neverneverland. I still had him targetted but couldnt cast and couldnt find him on track. I imagine he must have been under the world because we search the whole zone with druid tracking and never found him. Petitioned and bugged.

and let me guess /petition and /bug got you /jack ****. i get really sick of gm's in this game. i'd rather not even have them then to wait 6 hours to get sorry we can't help you. at least then i wouldn't have to waste my time waiting to be told i'm up the creek without a paddle. i never even bother calling a gm anymore as i've had them help me ONCE in all the time i've been playing i've requested thier help. i spent 3 months after a patch without harm touch because of something they screwed up on my character and had to go as far as getting in contact with customer service by telephone to get any help. the only thing i feel for gm's is contempt. and to any gm's reading this all i have to say to you is ..l..

The "Minimum level" is a tool given so that you have an idea of around what level you would be able to succesfully complete the quest so the 55 on this means that at 55 you would most likely be able to do all the prequisits to this and get everything done yourself, ei. not just a lvl1 having their main's guildies do the quest for them.
BUG
# Mar 18 2003 at 1:55 PM Rating: Decent
This spawn is broken. I'll explain.
When a server comes up he will spawn a bunch back to back. After a few days of server being up (was told 12-15 hours by one person, 2 day by another) he stops spawning till the server goes down again.
This has beenn petitioen, bug reported and feedback reported. Because so few people complain about this bug it is ont fixxed. Every time you go in game, or at least once /bug report this and if enough peole do thye will fix it. For many people this is the place the rings get hard since the camp is screwey.

Chief's normal spawn may be bugged, but the war is different. He despawns, and a different version of him spawns when you trigger the war in EW.

Did this last night with team of 7 and boy was it overkill. simply had the group set up camp inside the fort over to the northeast end of the camp near the pole and I went out turned in ring then turned in the note and camo'd up and went back in, within seconds the giant commanders and orc cheif pop'd and I used Harmony and the Cleric used pacify, single pulled the chief over to us and comenced on the beat down. he died I grabbed the head ran over to garadain and walked around with him till he repop'd, gave him the head and got my ring.

then we commenced to killin the rest of the giants and orcs for the fun of it.

My War Experience

I was very unprepared for this war when I triggered it. I had a group with 2 druids, shaman, Shadowknight, warrior, and me the Bard.

I had them parked on the north side of the fort in the courtyard so that they could see the chief. My plan was to harmony the chief where he spawns between the hut and the entrance, then single pull him from all his buddies. Well as soon as I did the turn in my whole group aggroed the outside giants and orcs because I put them too close to the outer wall. The ENTIRE group wiped right there. I cursed and ran behind the hut with half the army after me. Circling around the other side I saw the chief so I targeted him and ran through the middle to aggro him. I figured I was going to die, so why not go out fighting! He runs very fast. He almost kept up with Selos! Anyway, eventually his buddies ran back to the fort. I chant kited the chief down and looted the head. With the head in hand, I ran down to garadain and handed it over. A split second after I hit trade the whole fort aggroed on me and turned me into a gooey stain in the snow. However, as soon as I zoned I saw the message saying I got the exp and faction from the hand in! sure enough, my ring was on my corpse when I got back. Woohoo! I got really really lucky there. Glad I didn't have to start all over!

Maybe not easy, but fair.

Me(57 Ranger), and a 61 monk killed Chief Ry'Gorr while doing the war. I invised us went inside. I harmonied the 2 Commanders with Harmony of Nature (if you didnt know about the spell, new lvl 39 spell). The Commanders and Chief were next to the house where Firebrand the Black is, someone might have agro'd them. Monk pulled Chief and got Firebrand the Black add. Monk used disc and mend. Killed Chief, root Firebrand...med, kill. = yay. I got head since he had head already do to a person that didnt need head before and he got it. Anyways Chief not that hard. Only has like 6k hp, hits 1-172.

Got Gauntlets of the Black, Dark Ember, Chill Spine Spear. Firebrand had both loot and was a new dark blue con.

Soloed 1 to 8 as a 58 SK as well.
How do you solo the warden.. hehe.. easy.. just take him over to the first hut he will kill the 4 dorfs there.. make sure it's not in aggro range of Garadin. he will come out of that at about 15% health Kick is lanky butt.
the prison break soloable too.. one you hand in the key let him walk to the point where they will ambush him.. Smack him and drag him to the northern hut and FD.. wait a little while for the conversation to end and get your items
8th is easy as well.. turn in War document to the little female named dorf, invis. go inside rygorr camp Cast up your Pet. Single pull chief get head and now wait 20 minutes hehe.. not that long but will feel like it.

just soloed, 65 bard
gave ring to garadain and orders to gloradin like the walkthrough said
levitated over the fort wall and there are 2 giants, 2 orcs, and chief rygorr between the front gate and the front door of the hut.
invis and get close to get the right target then run to max range and lull. repeat for the other giant and the 2 orcs. pull chief from behind and pull him over a safe distance from the rest of the crap. slowed with requiem while kiting, then meleed and used dmg songs til i was low health and then just kited him til he started running. snare him so he doesnt agro the rest of the camp. he'll run fast towards them so even when snared and low health he's still moving so make sure you have good distance like i said before. i finished him off, looted his head, and invised out to the coldain army and handed it in to garadain. the first 7 rings i soloed also, but doesnt look like i can do much of 9 alone hehe
good luck yall

takes a max of 3 ppl.. i did this by clearing the fort before the turn in.. have your people helping you wait inside while you do the turn in to the glacierbanes.. cast invis or use an invis potion.. run inside.. kill the chief, invis and run out. Turn in your head to garadain before he engages the giant army and bamn.. your shiny 8th ring.

Glor spawned 23 hours from end of last 8th ring war for me.

I parked a 62 cleric inside the fort, against the left wall facing out the gate. I triggered the script, camo'd and ran inside the fort tot he cleric's spot. Cast new nerfed harmony from as far away as it would land. Using a BFT and tolan's arrows shot chief from max range. Chief came solo. Brief fight (I am 61 ranger with both epics and a Fleshgrinder ~4700hp raid buffed). Cheif was dead before charge was called. Waited for the Garadin to have the army attack handed in the head and BANG got my ring.

I went back inside the fort to clear out the names and each was pulled solo np. I went LD at this point and when I came back all my little dwarf buddies were dead. I attempted to clear the orcs and giants, but I am a momo and that didn't work right. Acluster of elites did not get pulled 1 at a time despite my best efforts ).

Handed in 7th Ring, Handed in Marching Orders.
Ran to fort and Killed Chief. Grabbed head.
The coldain never spawned.
No zonewide script running.
And no 8th ring :(

What happened?
I did petition it and was told that it sounded like a bug. (duh)
No reimbursement at this time tho

I would hazard a guess that someone "poached" you out of your 8th ring. :(

** BE WARNED **

Some unscrupulus <sp?> people will hang around (sometimes invis) and wait for you to do the note turn in. After you turn in and run to the Fort to kill the chief they will hand in their (previously accuired orc-chief-head) to Garadain.
Poof! they get a nice shiney 8th ring and you get screwed (have to start COMPLETELY over with the quest). This even leaves all the MOBs up at the Orc-fort for a longer than normal period of time, making the Orc-fort very dangerous to people who might have been camping there for the normal orcs.

So my best advise is to make sure you have at least one person who has "see invis" follow Garadain around as he makes the preparation for the war, to keep an eye out for poachers. Bear in mind you can't stop them from poaching you, but they CAN get a name to be used in a petition against them. I've heard of rings being retroactivly rewarded and rings taken away from people who have done this.

Good luck next time!

*sigh* mean people suck!

Being impatient I started this quest without seeing if Gloradin was up. Now I have a note, no ring and no gloradin. Can I turn the note into her whenever she is up to start the quest and get my 8th ring or do I have to start it all over again? You would think that if you needed to hand a note into her to continue the quest and you give up your ring to get the note that she would be a triggered person when you turn in the ring but that's VI for ya

Yes, have the person who hands the note in to Gloradin and the person who wants the 8th ring in the same group, hand note to Gloradin, run to fort kill Chief Ry`Gorr and get person who wants 8th ring to loot his head and hand it to Garadain Glacierbane after he's shouted "charge" and the dorfs have engaged the orcs and giants (so it doesn't mess the fort up for ages).

Voila, one Velium Coldain Insignia Ring..
(both people need suitable faction btw)

are you saying that the 8th ring can be mq'd entirely? That is one does not have to do the first 7 rings? Does the level of the person recieving ring have to be 55+ or can it be mq'd to anyone?

I did the 8th ring quest, but never got the ring.
Reason being someone stalked my while I was doing it and handed in another cheif head to Galadain BEFORE I had the chance to. I hope th f*king idiot rots in hell for it. GM's only replaced the 7th ring for me, which means i have to camp the female dwarf all over again.

Don't let this happen to you! As soon as you get the head, hand it in immediately. You won't see the war, but hey, that's not why you did this quest. Watch for suspicous characters following you. Even though 8th ring was ninja'ed from me, GM only returned 7th ring. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. By the way, there is nothing stopping someone else doing this.

Goodluck

You're not helping by posting this, just adding to the problem.
RE: Becareful...

its quite hard to "ninja" as you have to have a previous chief head... which just means they got that far, and screwed up on the 8th ring somehow.

Perhaps a few larcenous folks now have it in mind to rush right out to rip someone off this way, but a far greater number of honest players now know that they can be ripped off and that they should take appropriate precautions.

I think letting everyone know someone can ninja your ring just levels the playing field all over again, which is always a more desirable arrangement, IMHO.

Mr. High and Mighty "You're not helping by posting... bla bla bla".

ER, yes, he is. Give's people a clue up to keep see invis up, and track the area before getting ninja'ed.
Easy way to do this
# Apr 06 2002 at 3:23 AM Rating: Excellent
Invis up ur group and place them in the far left corner as you enter fort. Then turn in the marching orders. The chief will spawn with the oracle, another high lvl orc and 3 giants inside the fort. A level 60 can single pull the chief (and the other mobs as well) with ease. I am a level 60 rogue and I am a terrible puller and I had no trouble doing it. Course if you can't get a level 60 to pull this may not be the easy way.

A 56 monk was able to single pull the Chief, then the others inside the fort, one by one to the house a few days ago.
