    You say, 'Hail, Master Rixiz'

Master Rixiz says 'You are on the grounds of the Brood of Kotiz. If you do not belong, you must leave at once. There shall be no [third rank skullcap] for you.'

You say, 'What third rank skullcap?'

Master Rixiz says 'I offer the third rank apprentice skullcap to those who wear the second. If that is you, then you will do the [bidding of the tower].'

You say, 'I will do the bidding of the tower.'

Master Rixiz says 'Take this glass canopic. Within it you shall place a brain for me. The brain I seek is that of a sarnak crypt raider. Any shall do. The ones we seek should be near the Lake of Ill Omen. When you obtain the brain, you must quickly put it into the glass canopic with [embalming fluid]. When these are combined, the canopic shall seal and if you return it to me with your second rank skullcap, I shall hand you the next and final skullcap.'

    You say, 'What embalming fluid?'

Master Rixiz says 'Embalming fluid is created through brewing, but do not drink it!! You can learn about the process of brewing on our grounds.'

Once I had the embalming fluid in hand, I went back and obtained the Brood Canopic container (2 slots, no drop), placed the embalming fluid in it and went off to find the mean nasty mob that drops the brain. Combining the embalming fluid with the brain yields a "Preserved Sarnak Brain."

Master Rixiz says 'You shall get no skullcap until I have the preserved raider brain and your second circle apprentice skullcap.'

    [Hand him both items.]

Master Rixiz says 'You have done well. Here is your final apprentice skullcap.'

Your faction standing with Brood of Kotiz has been adjusted by 10.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis has been adjusted by 2.
    You gain experience!!
You receive 10 gold from Master Rixiz.

I bounced through several messages attemptin to gather all the

information I needed for this quest. Just my opinion, but this quest

completely sucks. =) I spent several hours reading messages and

looking for what was required, and then due to the NO RENT item

disappearing on me once I had to partial complete the quest again. I'm

hoping I can save future people who do this quest some time by

outlining specifics and such. It's not perfect, just my version. =)

Start with Master Rixiz in your Necro temple, middle floor. Acquire

the Glass Canopic when you tell them you want the quest.

    Crypt Raider:

I give credit to Nanto for this one. To summarize, hunt around the

small tower at +1700, -50. It took me about 30min to find one roaming.

At L17 when I did this quest a lot of stuff was blue to me in the

lands, but tons of people were hunting there (130+) and the Crypt

Raider was green to me. Kill and retrieve brain. =)

Busted Froglok Slave Shackles (x2), found on escaped frogloks
This one threw me for a loop, everywhere I read for the most part said

"2nd isle" but I roamed everywhere in this zone looking for such.

Killed some stuff that was blue to me, ran from stuff that was red..

then went back to the newbie grounds and followed the right path out

from Cabalis that runs by the pillars. Swam through the water and up

to the path as it continued. This general area is where I hunted.

    Finding escaped frogs:
(NPC bugged pathing, Swamp of No Hope, +732, +2667)
This was the only place I ever saw them when they did spawn, they

simply run back and forth between the 2 trees. I killed everything in

    the area until they spawned.

Side note: Verant probably will never fix this pathing error but the

hillside just to the right of the area "traps" a ton of stuff up on the

ledge, in fact at +1051, + 3174 I found one escaped frog. When I had

to do this quest a 2nd time because of the NO RENT portion I had both

shackles needed within 20min after clearing the hillside and going back

    into the woods.

    Toil Master
(East Cabalis - near long stone bridge, +826, -41)
Give 2 broken shackles to receive "Pile of Granite Pebbles"
Note: This is the default spawn area he can be found in, although he

tends to roam when frogloks roam. I found the 3 froglok slaves he

normally resides over and he wasn't around so I killed them. You can

kill these frogs anytime with no retribution, I believe. About 15min

later the Toil Master and his 3 frogs spawned at the above mentioned

location once I had killed all 3 frogloks.

    Forging Hammer:
    Weaponsmith Grugal
(East Cabilis - near warrior guild, -422, -35)

    Creating the Bog Juice:
    1 water flask
    1 snake scale
    1 Bottle
[Combine] in a Brew Barrel (next to Bank in East Cabalis)

Note: I had put 15 points into training for Brewing so I thought I

would be ok. After attempting to combine several of these and getting

    the following message:

You have fashioned the items together to create an alternate product.

And getting an empty bottle back, and skill in Brewing not raising, I

camped and went to the Chat area to ask about Brewing being bugged.

Not taking into consideration the *granite powder* I had made in a

forge was NO RENT it decided to go *PooF* when I logged to get some

help. =( Back to previous steps to get shackles again. =/

I later found out from guild members when they logged on that this is

Verants way of returning items to you when you failed.

** Don't do the following steps UNTIL you have the rest of what is

    required **

    Place in Forge:
    Pile of Granite Pebbles
    Forging Hammer
    1 bone chip
    1 bone chip (separate slot)
Hit [Combine] and receive: Bone Granite Powder (***NO RENT)

    So now you should have:
    Bone Granite Powder
    Bog Juice (x2)
    Rubbing Alcohol (x1)

Return to the Brew Barrel next to the bank, place each item in a

separate slot. Make sure to separate the Bog Juice. Hit [Combine] and

you should now have Embalming fluid.

    So you should now have:
    Embalming fluid
    Crypt Raider Brain

Place both these items in the jar container and hit [Combine] and you

should now have a [ Preserved Sarnak Brain ].

Return this last item to claim your boobey prize!

Summarized tips from various other messages:

    Embalming Fluid:
Rubbing alcohol can be purchased from the mortician in West Cabilis.

    Bog Juice:
Snake scales can be purchased from a merchant just outside Cabilis in

the Swamp of No Hope. Flasks of water can be purchased in West Cabilis.

Bottles can be purchased from a merchant standing next to the brew

barrel by the bank. The bottle is returned to you upon failure.

There are plenty of How-To's on raising Brewing and Smithing so I won't

go into it, however at L17 I had racked a ton of training points and

put as many into Brewing and Smithing as I could without paying

anything and then went at it for the required Brewing / Smithin parts.

I smithed both times with success, I had to Brew several times to get

    the Bog juices.

    Hope this editorial helps!

not a bad walk through, although i do disagree with your statement that this quest sucks. if you wish to continue with the skull cap quests, this is a definately needed quest, plus for low lvls this aint that bad, its 4ac (same as a tailored crytalline silk head piece, which you need a skill lvl in the 90's or higher to make with any lvl of success, not to mention the fact that you need to kill decently higher lvl spiders to get the silks. only real difference between the 2 is that this weighs slightly more and looks pretty cool.) so when you factor in that your combined smithing and brewing lvls are less than the tailoring skill that you need to make an item of similar stats, this aint so bad. plus verant likes to make ppl put forth some effort into their chrs, including trade skill developement. so even though this is not meant towards the above poster personally, but as a general statement to the many lost cause players out there, trying to lvl at break neck speeds; rpg's invlove chr, skill, and story developement. so pls take off the tunnel vision twink glasses and look a little deeper before labeling a quest a waste of time or pointless just because you dont get uber gear from it in your teens. *throws 2 more copper into the opinion fountain, and awaits the repercussions

I found the hardest part of this quest was getting the NPCs to spawn. I also spent 4 points on brewing and spent quite a bit of $$ on rusty weapons & sharpening stones to build the forging skill to 15. After combining the items, I left with brewing(6) & forging(16). I used this guide exclusively as well as referring to the strategy guide for skill levels for the recipes. This was a hard quest that took way too much time...but I suppose it's ok since the future skullcaps will be well worth the hassle this one presented.

    Finished Quest
    # Oct 23 2000 at 1:03 PM Rating: Good
Well, I finished this quest over the weekend and will add my 2cp to the other posts. The most informative/helpful post is from Nanto on 7/14.

For the escaped frogloks, I just went to the first island south of the newbie area and just killed everything on the island (i.e., from leeches, to misquitos, to skels, etc.). This killing included all the frogloks including the froglok escort. Everything that moved was dead. Did this for about 30 minutes and an escaped froglok showed up every time. Just run up and down the path and kill everything and you will see one soon enough. I know this works as I had to do it a couple times (see below).

I stayed in the lake until I had 4 froglok shackels. Went into town and hoped to get the bone granite powder from the forge on my first try. TWO BIG NOTES: I was worried about a failure, since the smithing hammer cost 12pp. I asked a high level char to make it for me. NOTE 1: The Smithing hammer is the wrong hammer. I was wondering why they would make an item cost so much for low level quest and found out that there is a difference between a Smithing Hammer and a Forging Hammer. The Forging Hammer is required and only costs approx. 1sp. I lost the Smithing Hammer in the failed combine and made a 12pp mistake. NOTE 2: The high level char made it for me on the second try with the Forging Hammer but the bone powder is no drop so he couldn't give it to me.

I went back to the swamp and got two more shackles like above and trained my smithing and brewing skills to approximately 21 and was successful on my first try at making both the embalming fluid and the bone granite powder.

The location for the Sarnak Crypt Raider given by Nanto is also correct. Found one after camping for approx. 45 min. Killed everything around and it showed up. Went there with a small group of 3 (lvls 15-17). Most everything was low blue and green but there are some greater skels and mid-level goblins around that may jump you so I was happy to be grouped although it is quite possible to do it solo. The Crypt Raider was an easy kill though.

Follow this and this will be an fairly easy quest to complete.
    Escaped frogloks
    # Oct 18 2000 at 1:47 PM Rating: Default
There are escaped frogloks and escaped froglok slaves. They're both the same thing. I've noticed something though about the spawn. If you kill off all the creatures on the island right after the newbie area. Then sometimes it will spawn in the area on the right of the path between 2 trees. There's something about these trees that cause the MOBs to get stuck and just keep walking back and forth between them. I've gotten 5 shackles from the frogloks i killed there. Also the spawn seems to happen between 4-6am Gametime. But if they get stuck then they stay there for much longer (until they're killed?)

To Dr. Evil: say "I will do the bidding of the tower".

To Chililsis: Most of the items in this quest are no drop. To get Granite Pebbles, take two (2) Broken Shackles from Escaped Froglok Slaves and give them to the Toilmaster (who is near the Shaman/SK guild).

I'm doing these quests at level 45, mostly because I got too frustrated trying to find Escaped Froglock Slaves during my earlier levels. Anyway, I got my Smithing to 48 and my Brewing to 38 before trying to make the items. Succeeded with the Bone Granite Powder (which is No Drop) and the Embalming Fluid on the first try.

To get the Escaped Froggies to spawn, I just killed everything on the second island.

The easiest way to get Smithing up, if you can't find rusty weapons, is to make Metal Bits (2 small pieces of ore + flask of water) to skill level 21. Then use the Metal Bits to make Scalers (metal bit + scaler mold + flask of water) (Scalar Molds sold at middle building next to bank). When you run out of metal bits, instead of making more, make Steel Boning (small brick of ore + file + flask of water) to skill level 41. File (metal bit + file mold + flask of water) (File Mold sold at Warrior guild). The File is not consumed when making the Steel Boning. Then if you want to go higher than skill level 41, make Sheet Metal (2 small bricks of ore + flask of water). I don't know when Sheet Metal becomes trivial, but it's higher than 48.

Flasks of water can be bought at a vendor near the Necro guild.
    Glass Canopic

Ok some how i can't get the Glass Canopic from Master Rixiz. When i ask about the 3rd rank skullcap he says

I offer Third Rank Aprrentice Skullcap to those who wear the 2nd. If that is you then you will do the [bidding of the tower]

Then when i ask about he bidding of the tower nothing happens. What should i do?

    # Aug 25 2000 at 9:13 PM Rating: Decent
If you say, "What is the bidding of the tower?" he will not respond. You must say, "I will do the bidding of the tower." Thats how it worked for me, anyway.

Believe me I needed 6 for my monks bracer I can tell you just kill kill kill, and when your finished kill more on the 2nd Island and just kill frogs and infinitum. There may be credence to the pied piper theory but I tried it and either it doesnt work or someone else was camping an area very close to the Escaped's spawn and nuking them. All in all it took me about 2-3 hours to get the six. I sometimes got a second quick and othertimes had a wait.

Oh can someone plse clarify what it is that is no-rent is it the bone powder?

That's not an "embalming packet". The mortician just sells a sheet with instructions on how to make the embalming fluid. Not the same thing.

The shackles are a no drop, but once you get two amd take them to the Toilmaster and get the granite pebbles, you can do whatever you like with them. I have transferred pebbles between characters before.

I checked the other night (after I discovered the bone granite powder was no rent) and there was not any Bog Juice for sale (maybe someone sold some to that vendor before Chililsis checked). However, I remember seeing snake scales for sale somewhere; I believe in FoB.

    the slaves.
    # Jul 28 2000 at 12:45 AM Rating: Default
You can get the slaves from inside of Cabilis inside of one of the old buildings. They are located in East Cabilis. That the only place that I know where the slaves are. Is there anywhere else that they spawn?
    Slaves
    # Jul 27 2000 at 9:24 AM Rating: Decent
Im a 23rd Necro now guys and still havent completed this quest...All I will say is there is no easy way to find the Slaves at all...they are a rare spawn, and only spawn in the newbie areas. Ive killed 7 so far simply from using the kill everything theory, but it does take time..Even with a ranger tracking them, you may still be hunting for hours and i do mean hours...But then again some have been lucky as ive read in the posts above.

Deffinately get at least 22 skill in smithing..ive failed 3 times with 5 then 15 then 20.. After 20 you need to practice with rusty wepaons to get higher, you cant buy the skill any further...

If someone is actuioning granite pebbles, which they do, as they are also a monk quest,BUY THEM...

I was afraid the brain was no rent also but I got it first, the crypt raider was walking right in front of me so I killed him. I had to log off before I got granite pebbles (that takes SO long) so I can tell you that the brain will NOT poof when you log. I had mine for about 1 week RL.

I'm not sure about any other components though, someone said bone granite powder is no rent but I can't verify that.

Just a short question on the quest items. Which items are no rent? Meaning they poof when you log? I have a feeling that the brain might be No Rent, so I might get that last. But are there any other items that are no rent, whether it be the embalming fluid, or the components?

    Thanks in advance.

    smithing
    # Jul 18 2000 at 1:03 PM Rating: Decent
After many frustrating camps I found something interesting about the smithing skill. Sharpening rusty shantoks (sp?) will take your skill up to 26. I was dead set on not destroying any more granite pebbles so I was buying rusties weaps and sharpening them. Getting up to 26 skill makes bone granite powder trivial. I did this at lvl 25 so I had the money to spend on the skill. If you don't want to camp the escaped frogs over and over again spend the money on rusty shantoks and crank your skill up to 26 it will save you SO much frustration.

Rusty weapons are generally available in LARGE quantities from the guy that gives the curscale quest in the haggle barron, newbies go in there to turn in their scales and sell the weaps while they're at it (I bought 40+ shantoks off him and he still had more). I also assume the low level peeps will be selling rusties to vendors in the FoB.

    Escaped Froglok Slaves
    # Jul 14 2000 at 5:51 AM Rating: Good
For those of you who may be wondering how to spawn the slaves, here's what my brother and I did.

We went down the path (approx. 30 yds. from the gate) until we hit the first island. Then we ran around an killed everything in sight, EXCEPT the Froglok Escorts. (I would like to note that it's probably not necessary to kill everything, and refraining from killing the Escorts may or may not be necessary, but this is what worked for us). After a while (seemingly after we killed the Froglok Skippers, but we're not positive of this), an Escaped Froglok Slave would spawn. You have to be quick, since these guys are not sticking around for the sight-seeing tour. They always head in the direction of the city, if that helps any.

Anyhow, sorry for any rambling in this post. I've been up all night, and I'm practically falling asleep. Anyhow, we killed about 8 of them, and saw approximately three or four others, in the span of about an hour. =)

    # Aug 21 2000 at 2:28 PM Rating: Decent
This seams consistant with what worked. After spending multiple evenings with a druid tracking these, I finally restorted to massive killing around the two paths. Eventually they spawned and ran toward the city.

Escaped Froglok Slaves on the first Island from Cabilis in the Swamp of No Hope always carry the busted shackles need for quests. I have observed that they spawn about 3 or 4 times a game day, usually between midnight and 9 AM. When they spawn they immediately run toward Cabilis. They have always spwaned along the path on the island or a short distance to the right of the path (facing away from Cabilis). I have killed the Escort making sure to take the pie (Yummy) but leave the Flute. No other kills appear to have any effect on the spawns. My strategy is to autorun around this part of the island until spotting something then hitting the F8 key to autotarget. The Escaped Slaves do not stand still and possibly spawn running toward cabilis. I got one slave stuck into a tree who couldnt move but usually have to catch them on the run.

    # Jul 13 2000 at 11:15 PM Rating: Good
OK, well I finally finished this disapointing quest. I'll try and explain how I did it.
First, i have read all the tricks on making Escaped Frogloks spawn, and none seem to work, the best thing I can tell you is to just run around the first island (level 2-5 creatures are on it) south of the newbie area. Stay close to the path, every Escapee I found was close to path. No special way to make them spawn, just kill all other frogloks, as I am sure the are placeholders.

Next, the recipes have been given numerous times, so I won't repeat them, I was lucky and made the bone powder (or whatever it is called) on the first try with a 0 forging skill. and the embalming fluid took 3 tries to succeed with a 0 brewing skill. (i found I very friendly person selling bog juice cheap, so I tipped ;))

The Sarnak Crypt Raider was almost as annoying as the escapees, but not quite. It took me just over an hour of camping in The Lake of Ill Omen near the small tower at loc 1700, -50. Kill all other Sarnaks around, as they are probably place holders too. The Raider conned blue to me at level 17 and my pet and I just bashed it (to relieve my frustration at the quest) 8) I am guessing it is around level 12 maybe 13. My 11th level friend was able to kill it too.
That's all there is, and all I can really say is that I don't recomend this quest, unfortunately it is a stepping stone that must be done in order to get the next skulcap.

Well, I found the "Froglok Escort" but he does not repsond to hail. I tried to give him a flute from "a froglok escort" but my flash of brillance was quickly snuffed...no response. I asked him all sorts of things, and I even spat on him. Nothing.

    Any hints?

Early on, I managed to get one shackle by luck so I know the escaped slaves spawn....just have not spawned when i am looking for them...Hysss.
Smithing and Brewing info and tips for t
    # Jul 09 2000 at 10:51 PM Rating: Good
Here is some info and tips on completing the smithing and brewing for this quest.

    Bone Granite Pebbles:
A forging hammer can be purchased from the vendor standing next to the forge at the warrior's guild. For the actual smithing itself, little help I can give here other than to put some skill points into it and expect to fail a time or two. The good news is the granite is returned upon failure of brewing the embalming fluid.

    Bog Juice:
Snake scales can be purchased from a merchant just outside Cabilis in the Swamp of No Hope. Flasks of water can be purchased in West Cabilis. Bottles can be purchased from a merchant standing next to the brew barrel by the bank. The bottle is returned to you upon failure.

    Embalming Fluid:
Rubbing alcohol can be purchased from the mortician in West Cabilis.

For the actual brewing put no more than a couple of points into brewing. Then buy a stack or two of snake scales, a stack or two of flasks of water, and a stack of Rubbing Alcohol. Go to the brew barrel by the bank in East Cabilis. Buy 2 bottles and keep trying till you make 2 bog juices. Then attempt to make embalming fluid. If you fail, buy 2 more bottles and repeat. Keep doing this till you have embalming fluid. Your skill will go up as you go and eventually you will make the embalming fluid without having wasted a lot of skill points or money and have acquired a bit of skill in brewing too.
Best way to do the quest

The Iksar necromancer quests are actually pretty well set up...if you know what to do ahead of time. Ideally, you hunt in Lake of Ill Omen to start and collect the parts for the 1st and 2nd Skullcaps while leveling up. I had both both skullcaps by around level 4. Then you move on to the Swamp of No Hope. The Escaped Frogloks can be found on the 1st island. To get there, follow the trail with the large columns lining it till the trail becomes submerged in the water. Where the trail continues on the other side of the water is the 1st island. Simply hunt here for exp and the Escaped Frogloks. Exp slows way down here at level 7 but by then you should have collected enough shackles to make your Bone Granite Powder (I collected enough shackles to make 2 while I was there and that is with 3 failures). At this point I'm still to low to kill Crypt Raiders so I don't have any info on them. If you've already past the ideal levels then you just kill everything on the 2nd island till you find them or you might try the 3rd island. I know they head in the direction of Cabilis and I'm not sure if they actually spawn on the 2nd island or possibly further out.

Be careful wandering around in the Swamp. If you follow the trail with the columns along it seems to slowly progress up. The area near the city containing lvl 1-3 stuff, the 1st island containing stuff around lvl 2-5, and the 2nd island which is as far as I ventured contained mobs around lvl 4-7. Wandering off the trail, however, will bring you almost immediately into contact with high lvl stuff (like not one but 2 Ton Warriors I couldn't manage to find with my enchanter, hehe).

Also, something I found out last night. When brewing the embalming fluid, be sure the bog juices are NOT stacked. Do a 1+1, just like the bone chips for the powder. At least I hope thats what happened. Otherwise I'm screwed...

I don't know why I even bother. I have had the worst luck possible with it. I have failed 4 combines, and have spent MASS hours trying to find these boogers. One combine I did successfully make, I logged to read up on what to do next. CAUTION: The result of the combine IS NO RENT. Back to basics again. I've failed a combine again since then with a skill of 21. Apparently there IS something tricky about the spawn, but GM's will not say anything. I think that Tarkenagus hit the nail on the head though... And let me say one more thing about the idea of this quest..."Why?" Why did Verant make a several quests with several classes center around this one spawn?! I could understand maybe if it was lvl 40. But that is different. We are talking lvl 10ish people. It's rediculous. I've never been the one to rant about Verant, in fact I've always sympathized for the company because it is so often harrassed. But this...this is...rediculous.
