Vorken is worried that the son of his rival, Bevelious Thunderstone is plotting to kill him. He wants you to get him first. The son, Ekelng Thunderstone, can be found in the Eastern Wastes. He drops a head when he is killed. For delivering the head of the plotter, Vorken will reward you with the Vambraces of Avoidance.

At low amiable faction :

[Sun Oct 02 14:21:34 2022] You say, 'Hail, Vorken Iceshard'
[Sun Oct 02 14:21:34 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'I am Vorken Iceshard, one of the lords of Iceshard manor. In this day and age you can never tell where one's allegiances are. Leave my servants in peace or you may leave in pieces.'

[Sun Oct 02 14:21:57 2022] You say, 'allegiances'
[Sun Oct 02 14:21:57 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'Loyalties, of course, little one. Each day I see more mercenaries come to Kael, seeking their fortunes . King Tormax will use your kind to wage war on the dragons and upon the Coldain. But I question the motives of your kind.'

[Sun Oct 02 14:22:04 2022] You say, 'motives'
[Sun Oct 02 14:22:04 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'My motives are simple. I will acquire as much power and prestige as possible before I die. Such is life for me, a constant search for power and wealth. But my great power and wealth have not brought me happiness. Enough of my motives, what drives you? A constant search for more power, a search for security and happiness? Or do you truly believe in the rhetoric of King Tormax which advocates that we eradicate the dragons?'

[Sun Oct 02 14:22:10 2022] You say, 'power'
[Sun Oct 02 14:22:11 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'I understand. You seek wealth and power. Believe me, young one, it will not bring you happiness. Each item you acquire will only quell your lust for more power for a short time. There is always something slightly better to gain. Would yet another useless possession really make you feel better? Let me tell you a little story.'

[Sun Oct 02 14:22:19 2022] You say, 'story'
[Sun Oct 02 14:22:19 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'Before I ascended to power here in Kael Drakkel, I lived as a nomad in the eastern wastes. My brother Klaggan and I did as we pleased, not abiding by the laws of the Kromrif leaders at the time. With each 'crime' we committed we drew the attention of Beleveios Thunderstone, the so called leader of the wandering giants at that time. His anger with us grew so much that he eventually came looking for us.'

[Sun Oct 02 14:22:40 2022] You say, 'beleveios thunderstone'
[Sun Oct 02 14:22:41 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'Beleveios came seeking my brother and me to slay us and end the whining of the weaker giants. The day is still crisp in my mind. Four of his greatest champions fell upon my brother and me in our encampment, attempting to slay us in our sleep. We Iceshards are not so easy to slay, however. Klaggan awoke as they attempted to slit our throats and snapped the neck of one of our assailants. I leaped to my feet as well, and with my trusty axe I slashed at the knaves who had come to [murder] us.'

[Sun Oct 02 14:22:44 2022] You say, 'murder'
[Sun Oct 02 14:22:45 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'Yes, they tried to stop our actions without so much as a trial by honorable combat. My brother and I slaughtered Beleveios' most powerful guards as he watched. When the last one fell, I was covered in the blood of my foes, as was Klaggan. Beleveios stood there dumbfounded, before he dropped to his knees begging for our mercy and forgiveness. He prattled on about his [family], and wanting to protect his people. I would hear no more of this. His head lay on the ground not long after that.'

[Sun Oct 02 14:22:47 2022] You say, 'family'
[Sun Oct 02 14:22:47 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'I took little heed of Beleveios' ranting about his family at the time. I have not thought of it much until recently either. I have heard rumors that his son has been attempting to gain support from the other Kromrif. The whispers on the wind speak of my assassination by this fool who wants vengeance for a father who would murder men in their sleep. If you wish powerful possessions, then seek out the son of Beleveios Thunderstone and slay him. Bring me his head as proof and I will reward you with what you seek so avidly.'

[Sun Oct 02 14:09:44 2022] You offered 1 Head of Ekelng Thunderstone to Vorken Iceshard.
[Sun Oct 02 14:09:46 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'Congratulations, mercenary. You have earned your precious reward. Tell me, did Ekelng whine like his father for forgiveness or did he die like a true Kromrif warrior.'
[Sun Oct 02 14:09:46 2022] Your faction standing with Kromrif has been adjusted by 20.
[Sun Oct 02 14:09:46 2022] Your faction standing with Kromzek has been adjusted by 5.
[Sun Oct 02 14:09:46 2022] Your faction standing with Coldain has been adjusted by -10.
[Sun Oct 02 14:09:46 2022] Your faction standing with Claws of Veeshan has been adjusted by -2.
[Sun Oct 02 14:09:46 2022] You gain experience! (0.000%)
[Sun Oct 02 14:09:46 2022] You complete the trade with Vorken Iceshard.
[Sun Oct 02 14:09:50 2022] You say, 'Vambraces of Avoidance'

[Sun Oct 02 14:10:02 2022] You say, 'he died like a true kromrif warrior'
[Sun Oct 02 14:10:03 2022] Vorken Iceshard says, 'That is good to hear. I hope his soul reaches the Plane of War. Perhaps I will meet him there some day.'
Solo'd as 50 Druid

Pulled him to EW /GD Zone gorge. Hit with DOT's, Ensare and Root until out of Mana. Beware , he breaks root quickly. When nearly out of Mana I rooted him, zoned, returned, and medded while he hung around weakened. Able to then Root until he hit 20%. I was OOM at his 20%, so 2H Blunted him to death.

Quest item nice gift for a Guildee.

Easy kill, I solo'd him at lvl 48, literally like five minutes ago, and now I'm here to check out what the head is for. Took me about ten min's of kiting, and being a bard, it didn't take mana, or hp to do. He fell like a rock, and now that I see it's a KD quest, and that my KD factoin is straight up gucked, I'm gonna go ahead and destroy this head. :P Pretty useless to me. But that's a nice reward for any bard who wants to be friendly with the chunky butts, and easy to do solo, very easy. :P Anywho, peace.

Goofy bard. I'm a 54 bard, and took me 20 minutes to kill him, with best drum and best DoT.
RE: Easy kill.
# Jun 24 2003 at 12:25 AM Rating: Decent
I took him down at 48, using the walrus skin drum, and it took me 5 minutes. What DoT's were you using? And were you charming things to send after him?

This quest actually raises Kromzek and Kromrif and lowers Coldain and Dain faction. Must be amiable with Kromrif to get the reward.

You must have Amiable or better faction to do this quest, otherwise he will eat the item. This quest also gives the three giant factions and lowers CoV.

#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 27 2000 at 8:03 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Out of most of the items that I've seen drop in EverQuest, only a few actually have anything to do with the name given them. Why doesn't Verant give items that use words like, "Avoidance" plusses in the equivalent skill?!? In this case, there should be +'s in agility! A +3 Strength hardly earns the name of avoidance.

By giving you these vambraces he avoided death from his rival's son.
