After completing the first Shawl quest, ask Loremaster Borannin about another task.

You say, 'What task?'

Loremaster Borannin says 'Every year the Dain replaces the trophies in his trophy room. There is a reward given for the best new trophy obtained. I intend to win this year and I will upgrade your prayer shawl for assisting me. Fill this box with ten Kromrif heads and bring me the combined contents along with the burlap shawl. I will submit the best one for the Dains consideration.

He then gives you a Preservationists Box. Fill the box with 10 Kromrif Heads and hit combine to make a box of Preserved Kromrif Heads. Then give Borannin Preserved Kromrif Heads box along with Burlap Coldain Prayer Shawl.

Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh, some fine specimens indeed, Devastation. I will have the best of these mounted at once, wish me luck in the contest! Before I forget, here is the Cloth Prayer Shawl of our people. Before long I will have yet another [chore] for you to complete. Be sure to keep checking.

Your faction standing with Coldain got better
Your faction standing with DainFrostreaverIV got better
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse
You gain experience!!

You receive the Cloth Coldain Prayer shawl.

Did you look in your bags? And in your shoulder slot, if you were wearing the first shawl? Note that the graphic for 2nd is different than the first.

I recomend completeing this part of the Coldain quest by killing not buying. Not only for the Coldain Faction, which you need, but also for the Claws of Veeshan. They offer great quests and alot easier passage through the Tundras.

Wow, but EQ is the greatest scam of all...we pay monthly for our accounts, devote hours of our time to their quests and item hunts....only to have them bugged to all **** and back. Then they tell us 'no we won't help or support you getting your shawl and we dont know when it'll get fixed'. Basically a big ***** you to those of us who have been playing since Kunark and have had quests get bugged time and time again. Personally, I'm tired of the abuse. I think I'm going to apply for Guideship and start changing the system from the inside.

I had this same problem on March 1st, petitioned and got a GM to respond. The GM said this is a known bug since the GoD expansion came out and didn't know when they would fix it. His advice was to keep trying the combine each day until it worked or they got it fixed. The GM said alot of the combine containers are bugged in the same way. My guess (or hope) is they'll fix this is the next patch. The Gm said they won't exchange the box and heads for the combined box, so don't bother asking.

Also, don't bother trying to get another Preservationist's box or have someone else combine and MQ. I've already tried both and neither worked.

Thought I'd share the info.

Still won't combine
# Mar 01 2004 at 12:16 PM Rating: Decent
March 1st, 2004...noon EST. Combine still doesn't work. I did a /petition and waited for a bit, but as I have classes today, I wasn't willing to wait their normal 4-8 hours to receive "customer service." (Big emphasis on the quotes.)

Brings back memories of being stuck under the world in SK for 8+ hours. EQ became a glorified chat service that day. *smirk*

I finished killing giants/buying heads and tried to do the combine and had the same results...nothing. When I put 9 heads in it tells me you cant combine, but when I do 10 heads it does nothing.
Me thinks the nerf bat swung wide and hit a couple extra's this time around...

I just did the first part of quest, then stuck my 10 heads in the box, and it won't combine. The box is in my inventory and the heads are all correct.
Is this a bug due to the new tradeskill UI?
I've tried logging out and back in and its still not working.

Hi, I'm a little confused. First, I got all my toes, turned them in, got the first shawl. Then went after the remaining heads, put them in the box, hit combine and WENT TO BED. Yeah, you read it here, I lost 'em. Had to get them again. Anyway, past that part now but I still have the box. I have the second shawl and am on the stew for the 3rd shawl but I still have that box. Why? Destroy it?

Whatever you do, don't give Loremaster the box with 10 heads without hitting COMBINE first. If you give him the box with 10 heads (unpreserved), he'll say he has no use for those and give you the box back - WITHOUT THE 10 HEADS!!!!

Joyous day!

First off the box, once combined, becomes NO RENT so make sure you are ready to turn it in BEFORE you combine it!

Second off, do this quest together with all your friends! Everyone get toes and turn in their 4 then one guy get the box and combine 10 heads and turn that in with their shawl 1 and you *get the box back* but do not need it for anything else. What you can now do is give it to Loremaster Borannin and then have the next guy turn in just his shawl 1 and he gets his second shawl also along with the box back to repeat again! You could get shawl 2 for anyone who has shawl 1 for as long as someone has the norent box of heads!

It took me a while to figure out why I couldn't get the box. After some playing around my friend and I found out to talk to the loremaster you MUST NOT.... I repeat MUST NOT .... TARGET him. If you do he only tells you to sit down.

OMG Thank you so much for your post!!! I tried just last night to turn in the toes. I ended up giving him the toes without talking to him, because all he would stay is please sit and listen to the historian:( I even did the dumbest thing imaginable and got my self killed while trying to get him to give me the 2nd quest. (I accidentaly hit attack) I have searched all over trying to figure out if my faction was not high enough or something. I can't wait to get on and try again. Thanks So much!!!!
Bless you!!!

The box you put the heads in is Lore and No Drop, however once you have hit combine it becomes NO RENT. Don't make the same mistake as me, hand it in straight away. Unless of course you want to collect 10 heads twice.

That was a very good rundown of the first four shawls. However, the fifth through eighth are available now. The fifth through seventh are posted on eqtraders at the website eqtraders.com/quests/<fifth, sixth, etc.>.htm. I am sure that the eighth will be posted as soon as information on it is discovered. Good luck all.

I just completed the third part of the quest and have Thoridain's seal and the woven prayer shawl. I asked Boranin what the council was brewing and got what appears to be the fourth part of the quest. I haven't started it yet, but here is the log of what he says.

[Tue Mar 20 00:50:15 2001] Grand Historian Thoridain begins to cast a spell.
[Tue Mar 20 00:50:15 2001] You say, 'What is the council brewing?'
[Tue Mar 20 00:50:15 2001] Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh yes, good to see you again Slaep . I wish it were under better circumstances that we meet today. For some time now we have sent teams of our finest rogues to gather intelligence for the Dain. Tanik Greskil is one of our best. He was recently sent into the heart of Kael Drakkel on a very important mission and has not returned. He is now long overdue, and fearing the worst, our wise council has asked me to dispatch a rescue party to determine what has become of him and return him to safety. I have decided to give you this opportunity to build upon the trust you have earned from the council. Will you accept this mission?
[Tue Mar 20 00:50:15 2001] Grand Historian Thoridain lets loose a mighty yaulp.
[Tue Mar 20 00:50:24 2001] You say, 'I will accept this mission.'
[Tue Mar 20 00:50:24 2001] Loremaster Borannin says 'The council will be pleased to hear of your acceptance, Slaep . Scour the regions surrounding the city of the Giants. Discover what happened to Tanik and, if possible, return him to Thurgadin. If you are successful, remember to hand me your woven shawl. We seem to be running low on them, but I must say Mordin has never had so much help in the kitchen. Anyway, I will eagerly await word of your findings. Good luck, and may Brell protect you.

Whew, now there was a very cool quest! I’d suggest having a bit of smithing, pottery and baking in you before starting this one. I happened to be a master in all three so this one was done in one afternoon. (Hardest part were snow griffin hunting) Should you have any questions, corrections or comments do let me know so I can right my notes. I did get a bit late. ~grin~

*Notes: (Everytime FACTION is listed you get this message…)
Your faction standing with Coldain got better
Your faction standing with DainFrostreaverIV got better
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse

Should you find anything I miss, do let me know. Enjoy!

I intend to win this year and I will upgrade your prayer shawl for assisting me. Fill this box with ten Kromrif heads and bring me the combined contents along with the burlap shawl. I will submit the best one for the Dains consideration.

Fill the box you are given with 10 Kromrif Heads and hit combine, making a box of Preserved Kromrif Heads (Careful, when box is combined it becomes NO RENT). Give box to Borannin along with Burlap Coldain Prayer Shawl.

– FACTION - Item: Cloth Coldain Prayer shawl.

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Dat's easy, ye just take a slab a dat Tundra Kodiak meat and a jug a sauce, put it in da oven, den combine the product with a loaf a bread in a mixin bowl an there ye be.

*Notes: Tundra Kodiaks found in Eastern Wastes, Jug of Sauce sold in Thurgadin bank.

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Now yer cookin! Letsee here... Guard Leif, check... Trita Coldheart, check... Ahh yes, next we need an Ulthork meat pie fer Brita. She's a doll, smart too, but she can be testy when she's hungry so get movin! - FACTION - Item: Brita`s Napkin
You say, 'what about ulthork meat pie'
Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Hmm, lemme look that one up. Been awhile since I made one. Here we are, two Ulthork meats, a vinegar and a spices in a mixin bowl. Put yer meat mix, a clump a dough, an a pie tin in da oven an yer good ta go.

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'More dirty dishes eh? Well outlander, only one more meal to serve and I'll be done with ye. Make a Snow Griffin souffle fer the Grand Historian himself. It's his favorite. - FACTION - Item:Thoridain's Napkin
You say, 'what is a snow griffin souffle?'
Mordin Frostcleaver says 'This one's a bit tricky, ya toss four snow griffin eggs and a pack of spices in de oven. Ye must bake it just right or it's all gunna be wasted. When yer done bring it to Thoridain and if ye did it right he'll give ye his special seal. Just show Borannin that seal and yer shawl and he'll know that yer finished in the kitchen.

*Notes: Snow Griffins are in EasternWastes and the eggs are NoDrop. They do cast so be careful. Remember, you need four.
*Notes: When you have the four eggs and spices in the oven, take souffle directly to Thoridain and give it to him along with napkin.

I made today the last meal with the griff eggs. I think I was rather lucky, cause I got one egg from every second griff, but a friend of mine just got one in 2 1/2 hours.
Well, full happiness, that I finally get this seal, I hit the combine button with the spice and the 4 eggs in the oven and, wohoo, I lacked the skill. This griffin souffle is said to be trivial at 127. Well I can't confirm that, because I just tried it once, and I don't think that there comes a trivial message when ya fail the skill. (got a Baking Skill of 130).

Just remind always, that you also can fail although its trivial. This kinda disappointet me, because its not that easy to solo these griffs with 45 (to kill them is easy, but I had frequently adds), but well I'll get over it and tomorrow I bash those griffs again. Till I see eggs spawning on the ground, because they know they wont live long when they carry an egg.

Cheers,
Geistman

Mixing Bowl also sold in Erudin.

Closer for a Druid to teleport to:

Port to Toxilla, run north and a bit west to Erudin.

Zone into Erudin, take teleporter to top, and enter the first building on your right.

This has a man selling booze, and he also sells Mixing Bowls.

I finally gathered my last snow griffin egg, and have made all the recepies. Now I just have one problem. Mordin is missing!

I had a guide look earlier today, and he couldn't find him either. I was told he would have a GM take care of it. Several hours later, still no Mordin.

I talked to another GM in CHAT. He eventually told me that Mordin was on vacation until next patch. And from what I remember, there wont be another patch for some time.

Mordin was there as recent as yesterday, but gone today. Has anyone else noticed him missing on their server? I play on Tallon Zek.

The third shawl quest picks up where the second one left off. If you have completed the second quest and have the shawl, ask Borannin "What chore?" and he will start you on the third quest.

Wed Jan 17 23:06:20 2001] Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh, some fine specimens indeed, Dyllwin . I will have the best of these mounted at once, wish me luck in the contest! Here is the Cloth Prayer Shawl of our people. Before I forget, the council has issued yet another [chore] for you to complete.

Borannin tells you to go to Mordrin, but that is a typo, he really means Mordin, the guy in the butcher shop.

[Wed Jan 17 23:10:46 2001] You say, 'hail Mordin Frostcleaver'

He gives you a napkin named "Leif's Napkin" is No Drop.

Fri Jan 19 02:50:56 2001] You say, 'What is a Tundrabear Sandwich?'
Fri Jan 19 02:50:56 2001] Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Dat's easy, ye just take a slab a dat Tundra Kodiak meat and a jug a sauce, put it in da oven, den combine the product with a loaf a bread in a mixin bowl an there ye be.

Get a Tundra Kodiak meat, put it in oven with sauce and make "Saucy Kodiak Meat" (name?). Put your creation in a mixing bowl with one loaf of bread, which Mordin sells, and combine. If your skill is high enough you get the sandwich. Turn this in to Guard Leif with the napkin and get a "Used Napkin" back. It is also No Drop.

Give the used napkin to Mordin and get the next part of the quest. He needs you to make some Snow Bunny Stew for Trita Coldheart (name?). You get "Trita's Napkin" (No Drop).

Fri Jan 19 02:49:24 2001] You say, 'What is Snow Bunny Stew'
Fri Jan 19 02:49:25 2001] Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Simple enuff, getcherself two hunksa Bunny meat and a jug a sauces. Stir 'em in a mixin bowl, then put spices and two flasks a water with it and cook it in a pot. Mmmm, zesty!

The tough part here is finding a mixing bowl. I searched several cities including Thurgadin for a mixing bowl or even a mixing bowl sketch or mold. I finally found one in a shop in North Freeport near the bank. I don't recall the shop name though :(

Once you mix the ingredients in the bowl and get your "Saucy Rabbit"(name?) you put that, one spice, 2 flasks of water and a pot into the oven to make the stew. The pot can be made with the smithing skill, and maybe even pottery, although I hadn't worked on that at this point.

I gave the stew to Trita with the Napkin and received a dirty pot in return. I gave that back to Mordin and was given the next part of the quest.

Next you need to createan Ulthork Meat Pie for Brita. You receive Brita's napkin, No Drop.

Fri Jan 19 02:49:35 2001] You say, 'What is Ulthork Meat Pie?'
Fri Jan 19 02:49:35 2001] Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Hmm, lemme look that one up. Been awhile since I made one. Here we are, two Ulthork meats, a vinegar and a spices in a mixin bowl. Put yer meat mix, a clump a dough, an a pie tin in da oven an yer good ta go.

This requires 2 Ulthork meat, and the problem here is that if you're not careful you will eat the meat. Most of the items you need to collect or make are edible. I know the kodiak meat and bunny meat do not get eaten, but everything else seems to disappear if not below your food in your inventory. I could not find any snake eggs in Thurgadin for the clump of dough, so I ported to Misty Thicket to get them.
The pie tin is another stumbling block here unless you are good at smithing and pottery, or you have a friend who is. To smith the Pie Tin you first need to make a ceramic lining, so your pottery has to be trained somewhat. I had relatively good success with a 25 pottery, whereas my smithing is in the low 100's and I don't think the pie tin is trivial to me yet. Luckily the pie tin, and the pot in the previous step, are regular items that anyone can craft and give to you if you lack the proper skills.

Turn the pie and the napkin in to Loremaster Brita in the back of the Library and receive a dirty pie tin which you take back to Mordin for the final step in this quest.

The final task is to create a Snow Griffin Souffle. The person you are making this for is none other than the Grand Historian Thoridain himself, so it has to be made well. I have worked my baking up to 115, and I don't remember the souffle being trivial to me.

Fri Jan 19 02:49:53 2001] You say, 'What is Snow Griffin Souffle?'
Fri Jan 19 02:49:53 2001] Mordin Frostcleaver says 'This one's a bit tricky, ya toss four snow griffin eggs and a pack of spices in de oven. Ye must bake it just right or it's all gunna be wasted. When yer done bring it to Thoridain and if ye did it right he'll give ye his special seal. Just show Borannin that seal and yer shawl and he'll know that yer finished in the kitchen.

So now you need 4 Griffin eggs. I had never seen any drop up to this point, but I haven't killed alot of Griffs either. I set out and with a little help was able to get 4 eggs to drop in about 3 hours. It would have gone faster, but I had trouble finding the Griffins. All in all I'd say we got the 4 eggs in about 12 - 15 Griffins, maybe even less.

Once you've made the souffle turn it in to Grand Historian Thoridain with the napkin. Here I learned something useful. I forgot to turn in the napkin when I turned in the souffle. In my excitement in creating the souffle I had completely forgotten. I was about to petition that he had eaten my item when I realized the forgotten napkin, so I gave him the napkin and to my suprise it worked.

Fri Jan 19 02:37:54 2001] Grand Historian Thoridain says 'My compliments, Dyllwin , what a wonderful dish! Please accept my personal Seal as a token of my appreciation. May it give you power over your adversaries.

Fri Jan 19 02:37:54 2001] Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse
Fri Jan 19 02:37:54 2001] You gain experience!!

He gives you his Seal to give to Borannin with your second Prayer Shawl. Now here is the toughest part of the quest. I looked at theSeal thinking it would be some no stat item, to my suprise I found it is an incredibly nice item, I think better than the Frozen Orb everyone is farming in the Eastern Wastes. Stats are AC 3, Wis +3, Int +3, SvCold +3, Sv Magic +3 and Mana +30. I hesitated for a moment, but finally turned it and my Prayer Shawl in to Borannin thinking I could do the quest again to that point to get the Seal.

Fri Jan 19 02:40:09 2001] Loremaster Borannin says 'Well done Dyllwin , the council will be impressed with your effort. Here is the woven prayer shawl, wear it with pride. I know there is talk of great plans for you, be sure to come back and ask me what the council has [brewing].

This is the best part of the quest. I looked at my inventory to check out the stats on the shawl. It is as expected, one better on each stat over the second one, just like the ring quests. What shocked me, however, is that along with the third shawl I also received back from Borannin the Seal of Thoridain. So with this third quest we get two items. The shawl, which has not quite reached the level that I would switch it out for what I have on, and the Seal which is an incredible nice item.

He alludes to the fourth quest in this series, but when questioned about it says there will soon be much to do.

Fri Jan 19 02:40:56 2001] You say, 'What is brewing?'
Fri Jan 19 02:40:56 2001] Loremaster Borannin says 'As of now they have nothing for me to tell you. Bear with me Dyllwin , there will soon be much to do!

Unfortunately I did some of the quest on a different computer, so I did not have all of the log entries to include with the correct names of some items and what some of the NPC's say. All of the steps are here, anything missed is just dialog.

For those who want it sumed up, here is a shopping list of items you will need to do the whole quest. This assumes no failures, so plan accordingly :)

1 Bottle of Milk (Stackable)
1 Cup Flower (Stackable)
1 Pie Tin (Non-stackable, Not a container)

One last note...I did this whole third quest without an open inventory slot, since I had to carry around a mixing bowl. So you don't have to worry about not getting an item from one of the NPC's if all of your slots are filled, anything they give you, including the shawl and the seal, fit in your backpacks.

Good Luck All,

Putting my own logs in just to cover any missed logs by Dyllwin

Well, I finished the 3rd Coldain Prayer Shawl Quest, many thanks to all who helped in this rather frustrating and nerve wracking quest. Here is a good copy from my logs. some of the item names may be slightly off, but not by a ton. When yer done bring it to Thoridain and if ye did it right he'll give ye his special seal. Just show Borannin that seal and yer shawl and he'll know that yer finished in the kitchen.

This is a pain to make. not so much due to the item's difficulty, but the quantity of the eggs and the rarity of them. not to mention Snow Griffin's really really hurt. Make the Souffle and give it along with the napkin to Grand Historian Thoridain, in the assembly hall.

[Thu Jan 18 20:42:04 2001] Grand Historian Thoridain says 'My compliments, Arcale , what a wonderful dish! Please accept my personal Seal as a token of my appreciation. May it give you power over your adversaries.
