Qarrgy Scallopgobbler may be found at -805, -400, +76.

You say, 'Hail, Qarrgy Scallopgobbler'

Qarrgy Scallopgobbler sets down several large crustacean shells covered in foreign runes, then extends his large, coarse hands in a gesture of friendship. 'I am pleased to see friendly visitors to our villages. I am the head craftsman of the village. The crustacean shell armor worn by the warriors of our village was crafted by me and by my apprentices. I will craft other materials as well when they are available.'

You say, 'What other materials?'

Qarrgy Scallopgobbler says 'I am able to craft dragon scale armor but it has been a long time since I have had the opportunity to do so for my people. What kind of scales do you wish for me to craft?'

You say, 'Emerald Dragon Scales.'

Qarrgy Scallopgobbler says 'I will craft an emerald dragonscale tunic for emerald dragon scales, ulthork tusks, and an unstained fine plate breastplate.'

Emerald Dragon Scales drop from Wuoshi in the Wakening Land. Ulthork Tusks drop from various ulthorks in Siren's Grotto and Eastern Wastes. The unstained Fine Plate Breastplate is crafted. Hand in the three items:

Qarrgy Scallopgobbler says 'I'm sorry strange one. That is not a sufficient barter.'
Qarrgy Scallopgobbler says 'I'm sorry strange one. That is not a sufficient barter.'

Green vs Emerald Scales

What is listed above needs to be corrected further. Emerald Dragon Scales is the correct item that is required to get the Emerald Dragonscale Tunic not what they have listed above as the Green Dragon Scales, which are for the Warrior epic and drop of a different dragon in another zone all together.
Updated Quest Info
# Aug 15 2003 at 3:00 AM Rating: Default
SOE has fixed or "updated" this quest and the items. What is listed above for the breastplate is WRONG.
Qarrgy Scallopgobbler asks for a "Fine Plate Breastplate".

This is what is needed:

ONE Fine Plate Breastplate (medium race version, not "small" or "large" just "Fine Plate Breastplate")

One Ulthork Tusk (off of Ulthorks in EW)

One Emerald Dragon Scale (off of Wuoshi)

What is NOT needed is a "Fine Steel Breastplate" as SOE has fixed it to read "Fine Plate Breastplate".

Fine Steel Breastplates no longer exist in the game.

if you want to skip trying to find a smith to make the bp head to an area where there are forges. Such as freeport, Pok and the bazaar. You can find bp's dumped on the vendors for 150pp with a cha of 105. The one i used was titled medium fine plate bp. The ulthork hunters in East wastes drop the tusks. And they are an uncommon drop. I spent about a week in that zone just to get 4. Quad kiting druids might have more luck rather than having to solo them.

Maybe you should try killing the warriors. I was killing both and I got 3 in about 45 minutes. Maybe I was really lucky.

So can you just give the guy a Medium Fine plate BP and 1 ulthork tusk? Or is this just a rumour?
RE: Confused
# Oct 02 2003 at 8:01 AM Rating: Default
So long as you give him the scale as well...otherwise everyone would be out getting these for a dime a dozen. If someone did indeed get one with just a BP and tusk, then chances are that Qarrgy already had the scale given to him by someone else, probably a huge mistake on someone's part...
sneak the quest????
# Mar 24 2003 at 12:29 AM Rating: Default
i saw above that someone posted you could sneak and do the trade on the quest, would an invis spell work???
RE: sneak the quest????
# Oct 02 2003 at 8:03 AM Rating: Default
Invis no longer works for turn ins to NPCs, sneak still works because it's a different form of invis. Hide classifies the same as invis, so hiding won't work, but sneaking will. If your faction with the otters is trashed (like mine is after killing over a thousand or two of them), it's easiest just to have someone else do it for you.

In my experience, invis CAN work, however you must open the trade window, put the items in it, and then someone else must invis you, before you click the give button.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 06 2003 at 5:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) people say the scales are 20k? well on vazzaelle i have never seen a scale for sale in the bazaar (i'm getting mine from a friend) but the whole breastplate is only 8k to 12k, this makes me think scales go for more like 1k unless they have other uses i don't know aobut
RE: vazzaelle prices
# Mar 20 2003 at 6:32 PM Rating: Default
Lol...obtaining the scale is the hardest part of the quest. If the the breastplate sells between 8k to 12k on your server, then the scale would cost close to 7k to 11k, not 1k.

You need basically 1 ulthork tusks, easiest to get in EW. Or just auction there, sells for 50pp; 1 scale from Wuoshi; 1 player made fine steel bp.

Fine Steel Breastplate ingredient FAQ
# Dec 30 2001 at 10:12 AM Rating: Excellent
There's a lot of confusion about the Fine Steel Breastplate ingredient. I'm here to clear all that up for you.

As a blacksmith, I've seen people get confused on three issues: 1) the name of the piece 2) the size of the piece and 3) the name of the mold that is used in the smithing recipe.

1) The player-made Fine Plate was originally titled "Fine Steel", but ultimately Verant decided to change the name to "Fine Plate". When they made the namechange, they forgot to change the name of the breastplates, so those are still "Fine Steel".

2) As for the size, there are three sizes of Fine Plate: Small, Medium and Large. For Small and Large, the size of the piece is listed in the title, for example "Small Fine Plate Bracer" or "Large Fine Steel Breastplate". However, for medium, no size is listed in the title, so it's "Fine Plate Bracer" and "Fine Steel Breastplate". A dyed piece would have the color in the title, such as "Red Fine Steel Breastplate".

Bottom line: if the smith is selling you a piece titled "Fine Steel Breastplate", he's selling you the right piece for your quest. If there is anything in front of the word "Fine", such as a size or a color, it is the wrong piece.

To add to the confusion, there is now a container size data field in the item information; so you will see in the item data for the medium Fine Steel Breastplate "SIZE: Large". That is NOT the size of the piece as worn - it is merely the size of the container the piece fits in. Combined with the lack of a size in the title of the piece, this will confuse just about anyone into thinking it's a Large Breastplate.

3) The smithing recipe is: 3 Folded Sheets of MQ Ore, 1 Flask Water, 1 Smithy Hammer, 1 Leather Padding, 1 Breastplate Mold. On the medium Fine Plate mold vendors (to be found in East Freeport and The Bazaar), all of the pieces are titled "Plate Bracer Mold" or "Plate Vambraces Mold" - except for the breastplate mold which is titled "Breastplate Mold" (no "Plate").

One last note: If you're making the breastplate yourself, be sure that the forge you put the ingredients into is a normal "Forge" and not a named forge (such as "Freeport Forge"). If the forge is named, it's a cultural forge (or a quest forge, like the one in Dalnir) and normal smithing recipes will not work in it.

The other main cause of the "Does Not combine" message is if you stack the 3 Folded Sheets of MQ Ore. They must be put in singly, unstacked, so that there are a total of seven slots filled in the forge.

If your smithing is 0, you will fail a LOT of combines, and the minimum cost per combine is about 80pp. Most smiths will charge you between 200pp to 250pp, unless they are guildies; this is fair, since most smiths may fail it once before succeeding.
