Thank you Kreycek for bringing this quest to my attention. I completed the "Epic Request" pretty soon after it was released, but I had no idea about the "Epic Retelling" until a kind bard brought it to my attention and that no one had posted a solution yet. We can't be having that. I figured it out after a half-dozen tries. Below is what I did on my last and winning attempt. I don't know if it's ALL required.

Edited to add Dalarek's experiences. 8/31/19

    Miscellaneous Information
    • Achievement Name (and clue): Undeterred Wayfarer. You join a band of Wayfarers, but there's no clue that I can derive from "undeterred" even after completion.
    • Prereqs: I completed an Epic Request and took each ornamentation.
    • Lock-Out: ~10 hours after completing the ENTIRE quest. However, you CAN just try the Berserker part, fail, and try again without a lockout.
    • Success Message:(After the final event) "The strange assortment of scavenged artifacts should make for a more interesting telling of this tale."

    Event Summary
    Story
You visit Keras who holds himself in exile still because he killed his Warrior friend in a sparring match. (He went "Berserk".) Keras is speaking with an old friend of his - Old White-Eyes (Barbarian Shaman). OWE explains that there's a corruption that is spreading and driving people crazy. You join OWE and a band of Wayfarers at Keras' behest to seek out the corruption.

    Steps

    Follow Old White-Eyes

    Battle 1 - Archers
    • OWE MAY give you a stack of Axes of the Savage depending on your level. Per the experience of another berserker in this discussion, you can use whichever throwing axes you like. Kill the ambushing archers standing on the crumbling columns to either side of Old White-Eyes.
    • Once the archers are dead, Commander Trakich (Iksar) runs through and weakens the Bloodgill Goblin that OWE is tanking. I killed him quickly.

Follow Old White-Eyes to the Wayfarer's camp. Chatting with the Wayfarers teaches you that some of them are jerks. There are some kin of Keras' (accidental) victim in the mix as well. After you're done chatting with everyone, tell LT. Tasith "I am ready to begin" and you'll start running together. I didn't talk to anyone except the officers in my winning attempt, so their conversation is not required.

Battle 2 - Mouth of River
    • Several undead and Kylong attack the band of Wayfarers. Kill them. I did nothing special here.

March onward with the band of Wayfarers. But something's wrong. OWE will blind you for a few seconds and then you'll be able to see the world as he can. You see Keras' sparring partner, Brinny. Someone is channeling rageful spirits and that's the cause of the corruption. Let OWE know when you're ready to continue to the final battle. Note: Hailing the surrounding ghosts in the "OWE viewing" phase kills them. Brinny says, "Mc... ar... ik". If you say back to him, "McArik," he flees! I spoke to Brinny in my winning attempt, but didn't speak to the other ghosts.

Continue running with the group until you take up an ambush position.

Battle 3 - Source of the Corruption
    • OWE engages Xalgoz.
    • One Wayfarer officer tanks Commander Trakich.
    • The other Wayfarer officer tanks a named Iksar.
    • Everyone else fights the 4 types of adds (multiple of each). Help kill them and then Commander Trakich.
    • Instakill "an ireblind attendant" (Iksar ghost) using ONLY a JOLT disc
    • Instakill "a headstrong acolyte" (Iksar skeleton) using ONLY a STUN disc
    • Instakill "a steadfast loyalist" (Sarnak ghost) using ONLY a SNARE disc
    • Instakill "a weaponlonging soul" (Veksar/Kylong) using ONLY your epic 2.0
    • Commander Trakich: Melee with your epic 2.0
    • Specter of Rage: Keep your epic 2.0 equipped! Turn off all DS and turn your back to the Specter of Rage. (You're implementing maximum discipline! Control the rage!) The Specter of Rage will change forms. When he does, use the same disc as you would above for that form. (ie. If he turns into an Iksar ghost, use JOLT.) If he turns into a Kylong, though, ignore him until he changes again.
    • If successful, in addition to giving you the standard "task stage complete" message, it'll say something like "you've collected things for an interesting story". Or something like that.

Great write-up thank you, excellent timing as well.

I am having trouble with this and here's what I'm noticing on a TLP server:

If I am ungrouped, the Archer's will spinstun/snare me sometimes

I do not receive any axes at all, so the Archer event I have done with both Axe of the Destroyer and Axe of the Anhilliator
Now, I am assuming that because these (I've heard) scale to 85 and you are 110, you are given the Axes of the Savage to tune you down, and because I am under 85 I receive no axes? Just a theory.

During the final encounter with Spirit of Rage, when he switches to Kylong form, even completely unbuffed/ungrouped/back turned he will instantly change forms

When I did this as perfectly as I could following the above write-up, it fails to become a more interesting version of the story/update the hidden achievement and ALSO doesn't show the Yellow emote "....NOW you learn how to stay in formation" No clue what this is triggered by, or means.

If I do this solo, the Commander and the first encounter at the riverside take quite a while, the commander takes me 10min at least. When I solo'd it hard-mode with no buffs/aura/etc. A few of the party died in this riverside encounter. I will try to focus the lighter skeletons next time and let the Liuetenant tank the Kylong's and see if I can do it with no losses and see if that is the key.

Either I'm missing something, or this is borked on our TLP currently.

That you don't get the "formation" line leads me to believe that the event is somehow broken and isn't "ending". Let me know if you try again.

Okay tested on a 90 zerker on another server learned two quick things:

I did not receive axes for the archer event, but I had and used Axe of the Savage
If you don't have your epic equipped Specter of Rage will not change forms and of course none of the DT's will hit
The Kylong image does not immediately change on this server
Even without ever having done the quest before, and not executing perfectly all of the death touches etc., I got the green emote, "The strange assortment of scavenged artifacts should make for a more interesting telling of this tale."
Also I got the yellow emote, "Tasith yells from the back of the cave, 'How convenient. NOW you're all able to line up in formation..."

So either the TLP server is broken, or it has to be Axe of the Savage or, there's some kind of pre-flag I'm missing on the TLP

That's interesting about the axes. OWE gave me the axes and then I didn't use them. Then I tried again (with the axes still in my inventory) and he "gave" them to me in text, but nothing appeared on my cursor. I eventually used them on my successful completion. You didn't use them at all and you still won and thus they're not a factor. I'll remove that from my write-up above.

That's a great find about keeping the epic equipped during the final battle. I only ever had it equipped because I assumed that SOME part would require it. I'll make sure to suggest people keep it equipped throughout the entire event.

Lastly, that emote "The strange assortment of scavenged artifacts..." is the success message. (I'm guessing this is a bit of copy/paste from the Cleric Epic Request because you need to collect ground spawns in that version.) The "formation" line is just a final bit of humor from the NPC given the complaints that Wayfarers can't run in formation earlier in the event.
