Balix Misteyes is at /loc 2917, 3218, 215.29.

You say, 'Hail, Balix Misteyes'

Balix Misteyes says 'Outlander, hail. Share the fire. I have little but if you are in need then take what I have. If you need nothing then take nothing. Balix my name is. Shaman to the tribe of Snowfangs.'

You say, 'What Shaman?'

Balix Misteyes says 'Yes. Shaman. I listen to the land to tell my tribe what the winds and waters will bring. Good or bad. Little good and much bad these days. That is why I sit here listening.'

You say, 'Listening to what?'

Balix Misteyes says 'I am on spirit quest. No food do I take. All day I listen only. I wait until the land tells me how to help my tribe. Maybe nothing will happen but I cannot fail to try. Hard is this. Many dangerous creatures are near but none come close so far.'

You say, 'What dangerous creatures?'

Balix Misteyes growls under his breath. 'Most dangerous is the Garou. Evil spirit of the land. It was made from long dead wolf spirits when the tower spread its dark magics through the islands. It preys on the Snowfang. We have tried to hunt it but always it is too strong.'

You say, 'I will hunt it for you.'

Balix Misteyes says 'If you want to try, you can hunt Garou. If you kill, spread its soul to the air for cleansing, then all is good. Its skin is powerful from the magics that made it. With a cougar's bone, fresh with the spirit of earth, I can make you powerful talisman in thanks for your service to Snowfangs.'

The cougar bone is called Bloody Cougar Bone and drops off a named cougar named Midnight. Midnight is black rather than the white of normal snow cougars and is a pretty common spawn around the Tower of Frozen Shadow.

Skin of the Garou can be found on a named spawn named Garou, who appears to be some sort of gnoll effected by lycanthropy.

After handing Balix Misteyes the Skin of the Garou and Bloody Cougar Bone:

Balix Misteyes pulls its lips back as it scratches and cuts the skin, working it around the bloody puma bone. 'Good for hitting or for talisman. Powerful thing to hold. All Snowfang thank you. Now, all of us are safer.'

You receive Garou Bone Club. There are no faction adjustments for turning in this quest.

Balix Misteyes conned apprehensive to me. So, I turned in items anyway, and I still received the Garou Bone Club.

"Balix Misteyes pulls its lips back as it scratches and cuts the skin, working it around the bone. 'Good for hitting or for talisman. Powerful thing to hold. All Snowfang thank you. Now, all of us are safer.'"

No faction message.

How to make Balix talk...
# Oct 02 2002 at 4:59 PM Rating: Excellent
When you hail Balix Misteyes, he indeed does not give the quest automatically. Nor does he have [keywords] to respond to. Instead you have to pretend to actually have a discussion with him. Didn't copy his answers here, but I said the following things:

"Hail, Balix Misteyes."
"What shaman?"
"What are you listening?"
"What dangerous creatures?"
"I will hunt it for you."

And with those key phrases he gave the quest to me. He conned indifferent. The quest did not give any experience or faction, just the club. Which, by the way, looks like the newbie wooden club. *grin*

I did not try to camp Garou and Midnight. I simply ran past the Tower and tracked every time I was passing by Iceclad. I soloed Garou at lvl 48. He got a couple of nasties through, but was very easy. Midnight went down even easier, though he broke the root once.

...now I just have to get this stick to my cleric, too. Good luck to all the others!
Blech...

My young druid *finally* got him on track and dead (with some help) near ToFS. Midnight was there, too, and jumped into the fray making the whole deal quite the adventure, hehe.

However, he only dropped the poker and a spell.

Is the skin the rare drop off this rare mob?

Oh, well, back to camping Iceclad :(

So far I've killed him 3 times and each time only got the spell and poker. Also, I can't get Belix to give me the quest- not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. He is amiable, but only offers warmth by the fire.
Multi-Quest
# Jun 24 2002 at 3:11 PM Rating: Decent
I have a quick question. I have heard that some quests can be multi-quested. Can this quest be multi-quested? Also, exactly how does multi-questing work?

Thanks,

Do you actually have to have good enough faction with Belix to have him give you the quest? Or will you just be fine getting the items and handing them to him. He looks upon me apprehensively. He will talk to me but doesn't have any triggers.
Faction?
# Apr 26 2002 at 3:38 PM Rating: Decent
I killed cougars near Balix in my younger days and he never gave any quest info out when I talked to him. What faction do I need to get him to give the quest (so I don't waste my time turning in things if I can't get the reward!!) and how can one go about raising faction with him?

I killed garou today on Tareww marr... im a level 36 druid he wasnt too bad, but i needed to get some help beacuse i got over anxious and pulled him with only 3 bubs of mana... i got him down to less than 1/2 health before running out of mana.. i would suggest any druid of this level wanting to kill this guy... when you frist start off snare if it doesnt land then run like hell and zone... he is faster than sow and just as fast as Greater Wolf Form... then forget about your DD for now and just DOT kite him around they are more mana efficiant.. this will get him down low but he will start to heal himself at that time just nuke the crap out of him... get some help too it would be safer that way... o yeah he didnt drop the skin =\ just the stupid tooth and a 39 cleric spell
Garou Fang
# Jan 24 2002 at 9:04 AM Rating: Decent
Killed Garou today and he didnt drop the piece for the club..instead he dropped some fang that is a 9/28 piercing weapon with a lifespike proc to it. Kinda neat.

Being a half elf druid with only 80 wis base. I have 160 now. I decided that this club for the extra 2 wis over my dark ember was worth it. I went to IC and got lucky cause a ranger had just killed midnight over by the gnome camp and was giving the bone away. The next day i went back to IC for garou. I'm currently at level 40. I attempted to take him and went almost oom. I took off for the gnome camp to recruit some help and went back. In essence I came back with a pally and garou was soon to be no more. Got the skin. Going to turn it in today to get my club. I intend to replace my dark ember with this club and see how it goes overall.

Is it really worth it? Sure + 7 wis is nice but your never gonna melee with it and a 25 life drain wont compensate for the 90+ hps damage that frost giant just did even if it procs every round. So personally I'd go for paw of oppola while you kite and then use my 7/22 mace for killing the runners.

Im killing stuff in iceclad anyway so ill keep an eye out for the mobs its sill more wis than the +3 mace but its not gonna be something I camp. Time better spend than this I feel.

I have a question. i am a lvl 37 ranger and i alternatly kite cougars and the occasional dire wolf ;). Fear kiting is the only way to solo these guys for a ranger. Can the garou dude be fearkited by a ranger?

I was with a 36 druid, me being a 36 warrior, were killing the garou, hes pretty tough, so we asked a 45 druid friend to come help us, the garou is as fast as i was when sowed, but snare slowed him quite a bit, when we had him down to half health, all servers crashed. It was really angering, but other than that he wasnt that hard.
Finally saw Garou

Last night me and my chanter husband ported in to IC just to check for Garou once again. We have been camping him off and on for days. Well, we went over to the ToFS and Garou was on track. I snared him and then we just nuked and mezzed him till dead. He went down easy and he dropped the skin, 39th druid spell and a dire wolf pelt. I then went to Balix and turned in the skin and bloody cougar bone and got my club. Never did figure out a spawn time for this guy though. Was just lucky. ;p

Well I just thought I should add my storie to all of these. I have quad kited cougars in Ice Clad for 5 lvl's now. So I have spent a pretty good amount of time here. Guess what?, never saw him. Did'nt even here of him being seen more then twice. I am throwing my bone into the Ocean, I am going to sleep at night, I am not going to count the hours anymore. He is so rare I dont want to think about finding him it would just be dumb luck if I did. If the people that said they saw him were telling the truth he is not an 18 hour spawn, he's more like once a week, twice if your lucky. There also is no PH that I could find, or think of, or read about. So I give up, must be easyer to get a Dark Ember and I know they still drop.

More than likely unrelated, what is the Bloodstained fang, is it a weapon in it's own right, or, is it a quest item, i got this off a cougar near cougar/gnome docks in iceclad.

Unrelated. The Bloodstained Fang is a Lore weapon in its own right (low-to-mid level piercer)

Now, ive researched this quest for days, and i have been on this quest for just as long, and i have not yet found a PH for the garou, i have yet to try the odd named dire wolf on the third island, but, could it be that you need to kill the named direwolf at a certain time? like an hour before sunset? also i noticed a wandering cougar that spawns in the garou's spot, exactyly at midnight, every time, i have waited four days in a fow, and each time a cougar popped right at midnight, this makes me believe that there has to be a PH for the garou. maybe its the cougar that spawns there? killing him during the day when he spawns as well..... lol i would like to finish this quest, the wait is just making me go crazy :)

There is no PH. This pooch spawns every 18 hours. You can clock it with a stopwatch. Kill him once, check you watch, go back 18 hours later to get get him again. We have killed him many times. The weapon is not that great, but Druids eat them up like candy. You got 18 hours to sell it because all of the stuff is lore (ie:skin, bone from Midnight, and the weapon itself) Good Luck all, hope this helps

I am on the Tunare server, but have seen Garou on track at or around the same island that Midnight spawns on. Maybe you could get a ranger/druid to keep checking tracking for you. He is yellow to me 38 ranger.
Hope this helps.

I (44 druid) just solo'd Garou and it was a bit of a fight. So expect some work. Luckily I had Clairty II going or I would have lost.

He's as fast as sow, if not faster. Resists root quite often. Resisted snare once (thankfully). Casts fairly weak spells (likes to try to slow you initially then he starts in with DDs, so heads up tanks). And he gates, after gating he'll be near Misteyes' tent so be ready to chase him down.

I kited/rooted him around the gnoll tents, the gnolls didn't aggro on him and it's a nice safe spot to sit and med. Used swarm type dot and about 4 firestrikes (not resisted luckily) to finish him off (didn't want him gating again as he was over 1/2 full on hp after gating).

Without CII I would have run out of mana (189 wis) and no doubt would have lost the fight. Was oom on the last DD I cast, which thankfully killed him.

Dropped the skin and Tumultous Strength spell (shaman). Great spell for shammies btw! I didn't pay much attention to spells he was tossing on me, but I think he's a Shaman, hrm maybe not, seeing he didn't try to root me which seems a shaman norm.

Oh well, worth the effort. I have no clue on spawn cycle. Been checking (track) around gnoll tents/shadow tower for a few days, just got lucky tonight.
