A boisterous bard says, 'Oh. Hello. Shhh. I'm listening to the [music].'
You say, 'What do you think of the music?'
A boisterous bard says, 'It's a little dry. The extra clattering of the bones don't match the beat.'

A bobtailed beastlord says, 'Hail. I can't believe that they made me leave [fluffy] behind.'
You say, 'You named your warder fluffy?'
A bobtailed beastlord says, 'Hrmf. Its my companion I can call it whatever I want.'

A bloodthirsty berserker says, 'Where is the [ale]?'
You say, 'I don't see any drinks, much less ale. I wonder why.'
A bloodthirsty berserker says, 'I bet it's those silly [vampires].'
You say, 'Why do you think the vampires are the cause?'
A bloodthirsty berserker says, 'Are you daft? Vampires! They only drink blood!'

A crafty cleric says, 'Are you one of the [servant]'s of the keep?'
You say, 'I am not a servant'
A crafty cleric says, 'Well. Can you get me one? The [food] here has appalling nutritional value. How do they expect me to heal on this stuff?'
You say, 'The food does look a but meager.'
A crafty cleric says, 'So shoo. Go retrieve a servant.'

A dubious druid shivers 'It's all so [dead] here. No life. Nothing living.'
You say, 'It is a home of the undead. Why did you even come here?'
A dubious druid says, 'I came at the orders of my hierophant. Go. Leave me be.'

An eloquent enchanter says, 'There are rumors of vampires able to mesmerize someone with only their eyes. That must be so useful. Oh sorry, that was rude. [Hello]!'
You say, 'I don't mind a delayed hello. That mesmerization by gaze must be amazing.'
An eloquent enchanter says, 'Hey. Wait. Aren't you the one that broke mez the other day! Leave me be and learn how to fight!'

A misunderstood magician says, 'Greetings. The stone and magic in this place is so amazing. I [wonder].'
You say, 'What do you wonder?'
A misunderstood magician says, 'Not sure I should [tell] you.'
You say, 'I'll keep it secret. Go ahead and tell me.'
A misunderstood magician says, 'If I chipped some of this stone and used it as a summoning reagent, would my pet be stronger?'

A mysterious monk says, 'Humble greetings . The constant music is enough to destroy my [tranquility].'
You say, 'Some people find music tranquil and calming'
A mysterious monk says, 'And some music is, but not the clatter of the bones making music here.'

A noctilucent necromancer says, 'Hi. Tell me. Do you [know]?'
    You say, 'Know what?'
A noctilucent necromancer says, '[How] they do it?'
You say, 'Wait, I think you are ahead of yourself. How do they do what?'
A noctilucent necromancer says, 'The bones. How do they get such delicate movement from their skeletons. To play an instrument and not simply attack. Oh. You wouldn't know. Let me think in peace.'

A peaceful paladin seems to be unhappy. "It's [difficult]."
    You say, 'What's difficult?'
A peaceful paladin says, 'Not leaping out of this [room] and killing everything.'
You say, 'Why would you want to kill everything outside of this room?'
A peaceful paladin says, 'Are you that daft? They're all undead. Go bother someone else.'

A rambunctious ranger says, 'I must be getting [old].'
You say, 'Why do you feel old?'
A rambunctious ranger says, 'Just last year I could trueshot for hours, now I tire so easily.'

A ravenous rogue says, 'Man. No-one brought anything [fun] to the party other than their fancy epic weapons.'
You say, 'How do you know no-one brought anything fun?'
A ravenous rogue stares at you like you forgot to put on your pants. 'Think about it.'

A stylish shaman says, 'What? Oh. Hail. Would you get me more to [drink]? I need it. And be sure that it's half alcohol.'
You say, 'Why do you need a drink?'
A stylish shaman says, 'Those melee fighters. They are so reckless. Never know when to stop and I always have to rescue them.'

A wayward warrior says, 'You hedge-born, crooked-nosed knave. Go back to the privy that birthed your [mother]. What're you going to do about that?'
You say, 'Hey! Don't insult my mother!'
A wayward warrior says, 'Oh! Sorry, That was rude wasn't it? It's a habit. Hour after hour on the battlefield I taunt. Maybe I'm not the best company.'

A worldly wizard says 'Why didn't you address me by [name]? Don't you know who, I, am? I'm very important... at the Academy...' They continue to drone on until you interrupt.
You say, 'But you didn't say my name either.'
A worldly wizard says, 'Because you aren't important, Yourname.'

After speaking to all the guests:

The room falls into darkness. A blood curdling scream comes from the direction you last saw Mr. Smotts. In your startlement, you trip on the rug.

(The screen goes black for a few seconds... When your vision returns, you have been knocked down and will need to stand up.)

  • Speak with Melion Pell.

Hail Melion Pell and follow his text. He will explain that a murder just took place, and that he needs you to find proof of whodunnit and where the crime occurred. There will be four items found as drops from random trash in the zone, and each item has a list of usable classes. Only one class is listed on all four items, and this implicates the murderer.

Tips: Places with mobs that need to be checked include the drachnid tunnels under the laboratory, the resting guests in the coffins of the crypt, and the weapon racks in the study.

    Details

Melion Pell, Minor Functionary says, 'Yes. Hello. Oh how horrible. A murder in the master's castle. And Mr. Smoots at that. Who would murder the butler. Wait. You are an [adventurer]!'
You say, 'Yes. I am an adventurer.'
Melion Pell, Minor Functionary says, 'Good. I know adventurers are not investigators, but will you please [investigate] and find proof of who the murderer is? I'm sorry to say that with this turmoil, the inhabitants of the keep will not be friendly towards you.'
You say, 'We will investigate the murder. What do you need as proof?'
Melion Pell, Minor Functionary says, 'I'm not sure exactly what will be there. The denizens are likely to pick up anything that's not food, so you will have to liberate it from them. I think five pieces of evidence will do. I acknowledge that the murder moved the body and probably cleaned up after themselves, but if you can find what room the murder happened, that will also be a help.'

Your task 'A Formal Dinner Party' has been updated.

  • Show Melion Pell the proof.

Turn in one of the dropped items to Melion Pell.

  • Show Melion Pell the proof.

Turn in one of the dropped items to Melion Pell.

  • Show Melion Pell the proof.

Turn in one of the dropped items to Melion Pell.

  • Show Melion Pell the proof.

Turn in one of the dropped items to Melion Pell.

  • Show Melion Pell the proof.

The final proof to turn in is a ground-spawn food item. The four dropped items implicated a class sitting at the dinner table, and they have a specific food in front of them. Find the room that has this food in it, and turn that food item in to Melion Pell.

  • Tell Melion Pell in what room was the murder committed?

Melion Pell, Minor Functionary says, 'So. What room was the murder in? The [laboratory], [ballroom], [library], [bedrooms], [crypt], [study], or the [ritual area].'
State the room where the murder took place. This is the room where you found the murderer's specific food.

  • Accuse the murder by stating their class.

Name the murderer. The list of possible classes to accuse varies with each attempt at this group mission.

  • Defend yourself from the accused!
Melion Pell, Minor Functionary says, 'That's very disappointing. The master will deal with-- Look out!'
Kill the accused. If you guessed incorrectly, two classes will attack you and you must defend yourself from both.

  • Speak with Melion Pell 0/1 (Dreadspire Keep)

Hail Melion Pell and click through his text.
Melion Pell, Minor Functionary says, '[Thank you] for dealing with the matter. While we love our master, we don't want to draw his attention if we can avoid it. Take this reward for you fine investigating skills.'
    You say, 'You're welcome.'
Melion Pell, Minor Functionary says, 'May the master's gaze never fall on you.'

Correctly identifying the room and the murderer on your first attempt spawns a chest on the dinner table, with a Red Berry Paste inside. Give this item to any "a batling" in the static Dreadspire zone to receive the Extruded Pearl Augment. The batling at zone-in works, as do the batlings at the first spire.

WARNING: You cannot have a pet up while turning in the Red Berry Paste -- messaging indicates having a pet up makes the bats jealous or something to that effect. - Tobynn

    Bonus Item:

Ok they have fixed this group mission so you have to complete it fully with no shortcuts as of 4-18-18. Easiest way to do this? Go through talk with Melion Pell, then talk to all the people at the table. Do not touch the food on the table. Go out, clear the rooms and get your 4 pieces off the mobs(random mobs in any room plus weapon racks at times). Once you have the 4 pieces or have figured out the murderer from the pieces(shows class on each piece that can use) then go back to the table and find the food in front of the murderer. Now find the room that has that same food. Hand in your 4 pieces then take the food off the table from in front of the murderer(don't do it before because its auto fail if you do now). Then fight the murderer and talk to Melion Pell. A chest now appears on the Table if you got it right. Just set aside time to clear pretty much the entire zone to get the pieces. All in all the difficulty is better and the mobs don't kill you too fast unless you get a bad pull. Happy hunting! I also leave the food on the floor of the rooms now in case I forget the room that had my food in it..

Taking the food off the table is not auto-fail. Handing in the wrong food is.

This may have changed. Normally the food item on table that you turn in that gives the update is in front of the killer. After the 4/18/18 patch i started my 6th run through of this **** mission since they screwed over anyone who didn't complete the task but got the aug (my 2nd run through was unable to complete despite killing the entire zone due to a step getting bugged). Well the food item in front of rogue gave update, so that's the killer right? The drops off mob should all be usable by the killer, which is another clue right? Well my first mob drop was war, pal, sk. only. I'm not wasting an entire 6 hours without being sure, so i'm starting over and only turning in a food item after i have the mob drops and will write down where i find the food drops on the way.

On a side note, if their goal was to instill a deep hatred for daybreakgames and motivate people to cancel their subscriptions and go play a game that doesn't punish their player base for playing, they succeeded.

There goal was to remove exactly what you were doing, and they told us as much in the patch. They made turning in the wrong food update the step but flag that you gave it the wrong food.
You're supposed to actually follow the evidence, that means you're supposed to gather the 4 items, see which suspect those items implicate, check which food item is in front of the murderer, and find what room that food can be found in. After doing all that you turn in the 4 items and the food, then name the room and murderer.

Turning in the food at the start was simply the wrong way to have even allowed.

it bears worth noting, there are 4 clues not including the food clue. the food clue informs you of where the murder happened. the other 4 clues are drops from mobs in one of the other area's: crypt, ball room, study, ritual area, lab's, library, bed room, the food clue that turns in correctly is the room the murder took place in, which you need to correctly guess in order to receive the bonus award. the food also ideniftys the murderer because that same piece of food will be in front of the murderer.
    quest order matters???

We completed the steps in this task tonight (March 27, 2018). We completed all the steps and received the platinum and exp reward. However, we did not receive the red berry paste. A point of note (don't know if this matters) is that we did NOT complete the task steps in order. We identified the murderer prior to collecting the final two pieces of evidence. Again, I don't if this is why we did not receive the bonus reward (the berry paste). Just wanted to let folks know.

What other forms of proof is there?

Well he let me in thsi time but not last night.

Really I am not seeing how we can ever win this task, No matter where you go there are to many blocking you and any pull will be more than my group can take the new area effect mez I don't get for another level I think on chanter.

We have never been able to reach but one ground drop they are always where the pull brings the whole room and everything is so distance aggro and attached I don't really understand how a group like ours who do not raid husband and I two box because we are not fanatic and are not on all day or we never would see the sun or have a life. Very disappointing.

So the items that drop will have required classes on them that will be hints to the murderer. Ive only done the task thru once but it appears that the groundspawn (a food item) he takes will match the food item on the table in front of the murderer.
Clues can drop from any thing killable in the zone even

It's completely random, in that any clue can drop off anything in the zone that you can kill.

what other items in the zone are killable other then mobs
    The weapon racks are killable.

Here is some of the dialog, cleaned up from my logs. This is incomplete but hopefully helps get the story started.

    <After zoning in>
    <Hand In>
Doorman says, 'If you need to leave, let me know when you are [ready:I am ready].'
Doorman shouts, 'Dreadspire Keep is honored to announce the arrival of <So&So>! Please welcome them and their guests <Names> to this formal dinner party.'
Your task 'A Formal Dinner Party' has been updated.

A mysterious monk says, 'Humble greetings <You>. The constant music is enough to destroy my [tranquility:Some people find music tranquil and calming].'
A mysterious monk says, 'And some music is, but not the clatter of the bones making music here.'

A stylish shaman says, 'What? Oh. Hail. Would you get me more to [drink:Why do you need a drink?]? I need it. And be sure that it's half alcohol.'
A stylish shaman says, 'Those melee fighters. They are so reckless. Never know when to stop and I always have to rescue them.'

A bloodthirsty berserker says, 'Where is the [ale:I don't see any drinks, much less ale. I wonder why.]?'
A bloodthirsty berserker says, 'I bet it's those silly [vampires:Why do you think the vampires are the cause?].'
A bloodthirsty berserker says, 'Are you daft? Vampires! They only drink blood!'

A noctilucent necromancer says, 'Hi. Tell me. Do you [know:Know what?]?'
A noctilucent necromancer says, '[How:Wait, I think you are ahead of yourself. How do they do what?] they do it?'
A noctilucent necromancer says, 'The bones. How do they get such delicate movement from their skeletons. To play an instrument and not simply attack. Oh. You wouldn't know. Let me think in peace.'

A bobtailed beastlord says, 'Hail. I can't believe that they made me leave [fluffy:You named your warder fluffy?] behind.'
A bobtailed beastlord says, 'Hrmf. Its my companion I can call it whatever I want.'

A peaceful paladin seems to be unhappy. "It's [difficult:What's difficult?]."
A peaceful paladin says, 'Not leaping out of this [room:Why would you want to kill everything outside of this room?] and killing everything.'
A peaceful paladin says, 'Are you that daft? Their all undead. Go bother someone else.'

An eloquent enchanter says, 'There are rumors of vampires able to mesmerize someone with only their eyes. That must be so useful. Oh sorry, that was rude. [Hello:I don't mind a delayed hello. That mesmerization by gaze must be amazing.]!'
An eloquent enchanter says, 'Hey. Wait. Aren't you the one that broke mez the other day! Leave me be and learn how to fight!'

A dubious druid shivers 'It's all so [dead:it is a home of the undead. Why did you even come here?] here. No life. Nothing living.'
A dubious druid says, 'I came at the orders of my hierophant. Go. Leave me be.'

After speaking to all the guests:

The room falls into darkness. A blood curdling scream comes from the direction you last saw Mr. Smotts. In your startlement, you trip on the rug.
(Screen goes blank for a few seconds.. when it comes back, you have been knocked down and will have to sit and stand up to be able to move.)

Melion Pell, Minor Functionary says, 'Yes. Hello. Oh how horrible. A murder in the master's castle. And Mr. Smoots at that. Who would murder the butler. Wait. You are an [adventurer:Yes. I am an adventurer.]!'
Melion Pell, Minor Functionary says, 'Good. I know adventurers are not investigators, but will you please [investigate:We will investigate the murder. What do you need as proof?] and find proof of who the murderer is? I'm sorry to say that with this turmoil, the inhabitants of the keep will not be friendly towards you.'
<You> says, 'We will investigate the murder. What do you need as proof?'
Your task 'A Formal Dinner Party' has been updated.

After this, we killed at least half the zone in about three hours, got one drop and had to quit due to the late hour.

The "proofs" you are looking for are scattered about the zone as group spawn, and random drops off the local trash mobs.

    Potential room options are:

    laboratory
    ballroom
    library
    bedroom
    crypt
    study
    ritual area

2nd run through i at least managed to get the aug but still was unable to complete the mission. Seemed to get bugged on one of the updates. I killed every single attackable mob in the entire zone and turned in the correct ground spawn but one of the "Show Melion Pell the proof" never updated upon turning in all the dropped items. In the future i'll turn in the ground spawn separate from the dropped items. I know i had the right ground spawn because it matched who i killed to finish the aug and Pell kept it. I did kill the 2 weapon racks too but nothing dropped.

What messed me up first run through was I never found how to get into the northern part of the library, which is where my ground spawn was probably hiding. Map showed secret wall label but couldn't find anything there. Turns out the spot you need to click is the slightly pushed out book at complete opposite end of the book shelf. Think label was on west end of north wall and spot you find the book is on the east end of north wall. I did find a item in there and was only spot i didn't go through on first run through

There is no way my group can even enter the library we get close and everything jumps us. We have a ranger with his arrow and that doesn't work can't mez that many even if I had the highr spell for area effect how do you do it? Maybe raid geared?

You can get the pearl without finishing the task. Find enough to know who the murderer is, kill them, use the phrase to get the "Berry Paste" and then go to the non-instance of Demi off of the Hive to turn it in.

I haven't done this yet but I read there's a bonus step whose successful completion can reward you with arguably one of the the best augments in the game, Extruded Black Pearl. Stats are:

AC 60 HP MANA END 500, 40+23Heroic to all stats plus other benefits.

Correctly identifying the room and the murderer on your first attempt unocks the bonus item (augment). After doing so, hailing Melion Pell results in "Berry Paste" cursor item. Give this item to any "a batling" in the static Dreadspire zone to receive the Extruded Pearl Augment. The batling at zone-in works, as do the batlings at the first spire. Cannot have a pet up while turning in the Berry Paste -- messaging indicates having a pet up makes the bats jealous or something to that effect.

So be careful of the mobs next to the doorman. They will attack and kill you.
