As a Level 2 HE Mage I just did this quest twice.

Both times I was given a Rusty Dagger (3 dmg, 24 delay). These are the same stats as my starter dagger.

After the quests I was amiable to Tarker.

How to un-fubar your faction (and avoid muffins if possible)

If you have totally hosed your felwithe faction, complete the following steps.

1) If you are kos to *everyone* begin by killing in Mistmoore - kill in mistmoore a lot - everything that moves. The King faction you gain there will help with every toon in the zone and the only faction you lose is Mistmoore's.

2) If this doesn't at least get you to dubious in Felwithe, go to Lake Rathe and find the under water goblins (usually camped by clerics for their epic pop but you don't need the epic and they'd probably appreciate the help). Kill those goblins...a lot...and this will raise your faction with every good guard squad in Fay (and Butchersblock)

3) You need to be apprehensive to do the infamous "batwing" quest, the "wolf skin" quest, or to turn muffins in to pandos.

4) You can also do the "slave key" quest in Crushbone but this takes buttloads of time and just isn't worth the effort.

5) The goblins in Dagors used to give the same guard faction as the ones in Lake Rathe but this may have been changed.

6) If you get sick of goblins you can always turn muffins in to Pandos in Freeport (East I think but not sure since the revamp). You need to be apprehensive for him to even take your muffins but the steps outlined above will get you there.

all ruined, low, mediem and high quality wolf pelts drop off all wolves and apperer BROWN in the inventory. A BLACK WOLF SKIN is only available on A BLACK WOLF, not A SHADOW WOLF. It is black in the inventory, and clearly says "A BLACK WOLF SKIN", were as u lot are trying to give him any old pelts you got off the little wolfies!!

As a would-be taylor, I often find myself hunting the wolves of Greater Faydark, and whenever I get a black wolf skin, I simply turn it over to this leader of the wizards guild. As of Saturday, 11/03/01, one black wolf skin works just fine.

I have yet to be given a spell scroll & have turned in several black wolf skins to him.

If you are not a Wizard, he rarely gives you a spell. I have received Rusty Daggers, Bandages, Copper Rings, and a Numbing Cold spell. To tell the truth, unless you are for some reason needing the small faction increases, the black wolf pelts sell for much more than the items you receive from the quest. Normally I like questing more than money, but at this early part of the game money might be more important. (for packs and such)

This quest is also done by druids and rangers to raise their faction with Keepers of the Arts, which is needed to continue the epic quest...the runed bowl involves giving an item (and receiving one) from Farios Elianos in South Felwithe.
Most do the batwing quest with Niola Impholder in the magician's guild. I was going to do this one, too, if I can get my faction high enough, to see if there was some bonus. Thankyou for the tip about the 2 black wolfskins being the correct number. I assume that the batwing quest is done because they can be purchased in any quantity, but it may be difficult to find enough black wolf pelts at any given time.

I gave Tarker 4 Black Wolf Skins and only got two reports of exp, faction, item. So I gave him just one skin and got nothing! When I gave another skin, I got the exp, faction, etc. Got two bandages and a Level 1 spell: Numbing Cold.

Hail first to see if okay

Hail Tarker first, if he doesn't give you the quest then, he won't give you a reward for wolf skin. I've done the quest 5 times with my HE wizard and here's what I've gotten:

2 2hblunt Cracked Staff
1 1hb Worn Staff
1 rusty dagger
1 bandage

Plus a fair bit of faction. Not too bad, IMHO for the variety of weapons (I'm working on 1hb now, preparing for my good staff to come).

Looks like that's backwards....

The Worn Great Staff is 2hb, and the Cracked Staff is 1hb....just in case...=)
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 08 2001 at 8:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They both are 2hb.

No they aren't. Cracked Staves are 1hb. Worn staves are 2hb.

Black Wolf Skin Wizard's Quest
# Aug 11 2000 at 8:15 AM Rating: Decent
Maybe this is supposed to be understood, but do not waste time trying to take a ruined black wolf skin to Tarker Blazetoss. If you give ruined skins he keeps them and you are out 9 copper that you could have sold them for.

# Mar 07 2002 at 5:42 AM Rating: Default
I tried this quest and recieved nothing from Tarker. He offered me the quest when I first hailed him so no problem there.

However the pelt I gave him was a "ruined wolf pelt". So this combined with other postings here suggests he only awards people if the give pelts of a certain quality.

Of those who have gained from this quest what quality were the pelts used?
RE: Black Wolf Skin Wizard's Quest
# Mar 07 2002 at 5:48 AM Rating: Default
ok after a quick bit of investigating I now understand that a "...wolf skin" is different to a "...wolf pelt".

Although I have been playing for a while and hunting wolves with 2 different characters and dont remember *ever* looting a "...wolf skin". Plenty of "...wolf pelt"s but no skins.

Any suggestions?
RE: Black Wolf Skin Wizard's Quest

First of all ruined black wolf skins doesn't exists, i suppose you mean the ruined wolf pelts. They are 9cp worth, but even if 9cp are some coins for newbies i don't suggest to sell the pelts. Collect them and make your Patchwork Armor which sells for more than 9cp

#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 05 2001 at 10:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) LOL..... It is worth a shot I guess i can use a better wep... And I think I can spare 9 cp per skin

Blck wolf skins sell for just under 9 silver pieces, not 9cp. Ruined wolf skins sell for 9cp.
