This is the third of a tradeskill oriented quest line (6 quests total) introduced with the Ring of Scale expansion. You must have completed Here or Over There? and Details of the Sky to get this task.

Crestra is an alaran located in The Overthere at +2392, +1778 on the docks. At the end of the previous quest:

Crestra says, 'Thank you for the detailed report. Since you didn't see any living dragons, I feel it's reasonable to send you back in the [evaluate a few] specific creatures in Skyfire.'

You say, 'That sounds fun. I'll evaluate a few of the monsters in Skyfire.'

You have been assigned the task 'Weight of the Sky'.

Crestra says, 'Thank you for being so helpful _____. So, I'll note the creatures of interest in your journal. Once you have examined them, please tell me about the [beasts] you killed.'

  • Kill 1 Devourer 0/1 Skyfire Mountains
  • Kill 1 Fae Drake 0/1 Skyfire Mountains
  • Kill 1 Drake 0/1 Skyfire Mountains
  • Kill 1 Elemental 0/1 Skyfire Mountains
  • Kill 1 Magmite or Volcanite 0/1 Skyfire Mountains
  • Kill 1 Ratman 0/1 Skyfire Mountains
  • Kill 1 Sarnak 0/1 Skyfire Mountains
  • Kill 1 Vampire 0/1 Skyfire Mountains
  • Kill 1 Wurm 0/1 Skyfire Mountains

Once you have killed all those beasts, go back to Crestra.

  • Converse with Crestra about the [beasts] you killed. 0/1 The Overthere

    You say, 'beasts'

Crestra says, 'As described to me by others, the devourer is rather odd looking. I think they are called [gnawers] in Skyfire?'

You say, 'The gnawers are rather odd creatures. They float about, probably with magic, and are basically a mouth and a tail. There may be some value to their teeth, perhaps their tail, but I'm not real sure.'

Crestra says, 'Those do sound odd. As do the [chromodracs].'

You say, 'The chromodracs do look like drakes with dragonfly wings. Of course the wings make them special, and they have use for things you want to be semitransparent. And of course they have scales, teeth, and claws'

Crestra says, 'The wings sound pretty as well. Drakes are [related to dragons] aren't they?'

You say, 'In broad terms I suppose they are related to dragons. But more like distant relatives in the animal kingdom. Their useful times are about the same as the chromadracs, but their wings are more bat-like, so will have a different use.'

Crestra says, 'Do [fire elementals] have any substance to their bodies? Or are they only fire?'

You say, 'Yes. Though it is liquid rock, magma. Sometimes you can get an essence of fire elemental from them that has many uses.'

Crestra says, 'The [large stone creatures]. Are they like the golems in Overthere?'

You say, 'Hah. That they are. Large stone creatures. Their general origin is similar to those in Overthere. They are constructed by magic, or spontaneously from because of concentrations of magic. The ones in Skyfire tend to have an element of magma, or at least extreme heat.'

Crestra says, 'So, your rat problem is so large Norrath has [humanoid rats]?'

You say, 'Many people call them Chetari. But they are actually not seen in as many places as, well, rats. They are humanoid and, of course, have fur and interesting whiskers. The whiskers could work as something between thread and wire.'

Crestra says, 'The Sarnak are fairly ubiquitous, so we don't need to speak about them, unless they [have something special] in this region?'

You say, ' Nope. They don't have anything special.'

Crestra says, 'Great. And vampires. I thought [vampires] didn't get along so well with fire. Why would they be in a region like Skyfire?'

You say, 'The vampires seem to be doing something with the bones of a dragon. Since they are mostly dead humanoids, I'm not sure there is anything interesting about them other than perhaps their blood and fangs.'

Crestra says, 'Yeah. I can see them. The Wurms. From what has been described to me they seem like [flightless dragons]. Are they nearly as dangerous?'

You say, 'No, Not at all. They are only animal intelligence, and though they are large and tough, they are nowhere near as dangerous as a dragon. You know, I never really thought of them as flightless dragons, but more like giant lizards. But I can see your perspective. I'm not sure they have anything about them more useful than their scales.'

Crestra says, 'Okay. I think I have a handle on what I need. Here are some instructions for an [ornate earring].'

You say, 'What's needed for an ornate earring?'

You have learned the recipe Crestra 's Ornate Earring!
Your task 'Weight of the Sky' has been updated.

  • Collect 1 Drake Wing Scale(s) 0/1 The Overthere
  • Collect 1 Ratman Fur(s) 0/1 The Overthere
  • Collect 1 Lava Wurm Bile(s) 0/1 The Overthere
  • Collect 1 Scorching Golem Mud(s) 0/1 The Overthere

Crestra says, 'Go get some Drake Wing Scales, Ratman Fur, Lava Wurm Bile, and Scorching Golem Mud. With these supplies you will make [Drake Wing Scaled Polishing Cloth], [Ratman Fur Thread], [Crystalized Lava Wurm Bead], and [Scorching Golem Pebble Bead]. Remove the conflagrant diamond from the existing earring using the tools in a jewelers kit or table. Then shape that diamond into a perfect cut diamond by making a square cut, then with the square cut diamond, cut it again with the round cut tool. Don't forget your jewelers glass and cleaning solution. Then take the four pieces and the new perfect cut diamond and reassemble the earring and deliver it to me.'

You say, 'How do I make a Drake Wing Scaled Polishing Cloth?'

Crestra says, 'In a tackle box or with a fly making table, use a skinning knife and tanning chemical to treat a drake wing, especially it's scales, and make is slightly abrasive yet overall smooth for polishing. You know. There are enough scaled components in this earring, I wonder if it should be called an earring of scale?'

You say, 'How do I create Ratman Fur Thread?'

Crestra says, 'For the thread, you want to select out the softest strands of fur, a simple sewing needle is the best tool for sorting, then weave it to length. You won't need much.'

You say, 'What is the process to create a Crystalized Lava Wurm Bead'

Crestra says, 'You should be able to make a bead from the bile similar to the way you did the Scorpikis poison, except you need more heat so do it in a forge. Add baking spirits to the bile and bake off the liquid until you have a nice bead.'

You say, 'How do I make a Scorching Golem Pebble Bead'

Crestra says, 'For the beads from these golem pebbles, you should first further heat the mud in a kiln to make it extra dry. Protect the kiln with a high quality firing sheet. Then, like the other golem bead, use the pottery wheel as a centrifuge to get a good pebble for a bead and the bore it with the sculpting tools.'

  • Create 1 Crestra's Ornate Earring using tradeskills. 0/1 ALL

In a tackle box or with a fly making table, combine 1 Drake Wing Scales + 1 Tanning Chemicals + 1 Skinning Knife to make 1 Drake Wing Scaled Polishing Cloth (trivial 348).

In a loom, combine 1 Ratman Fur + 1 Simple Sewing Needle to make 1 Ratman Fut Thread (trivial 423).

In a forge, combine 1 Lava Wurm Bile + 1 Baking Spirits to make 1 Crystalized Lava Wurm Bead (trivial 423).

In a kiln, combine 1 Scorching Golem Mud + 1 High Quality Firing Sheet to make 1 Scorching Golem Clay (trivial 423).

In a pottery wheel, combine 1 Scorching Golem Clay + 1 Sculpting Tools to make 1 Scorching Golem Pebble Bead (trivial 202).

In a jeweler's kit or table, combine your Crestra's Simple Earring to create 1 Incomplete Crestra's Earring and 1 Conflagrant Diamond (trivial 202).

In a jeweler's kit or table, combine 1 Conflagrant Diamond + 1 Cleaning Solution + 1 Square Cut Tool + 1 Jewelers Glass to make 1 Square Cut Conflagrant Diamond (trivial 466).

In a jeweler's kit or table, combine 1 Square Cut Conflagrant Diamond + 1 Cleaning Solution + 1 Round Cut Tool + 1 Jewelers Glass to make 1 Perfect Cut Conflagrant Diamond (trivial 423).

Finally, in a jewelry kit or table, combine 1 Incomplete Crestra's Earring + 1 Drake Wing Scaled Polishing Cloth + 1 Ratman Fur Thread + 1 Crystalized Lava Wurm Bead + 1 Scorching Golem Pebble Bead + 1 Perfect Cut Conflagrant Diamond to create your Crestra's Ornate Earring. (trivial 476, note: Crestra gave you the recipe earlier)

  • Deliver 1 Crestra's Ornate Earring to Crestra. 0/1 The Overthere

Crestra says, 'This is an improvement, but I don't want to miss any possible element that will give me the perfect earring. I have more information on the next region, so the scouting tasks will be less than some of the previous tasks, but I still have a bit for you to do in [Gorowyn].'

    You say, 'Gorowyn'

You have been assigned the task 'Gorowyn Wares'.

Crestra says, 'I hear that Gorowyn is a sarnak town of some sort. I did hear that there are some chokidai and basilisks there. Please go and examine them and come back and tell me about the [fauna] in Gorowyn.'

    Reward(s):
    212 platinum 5 gold
    You gain experience!
    Crestra's Ornate Earring

This unlocks the next quest in line, Gorowyn Wares.

It's a Collect step, not Loot. Which means you can pre-loot the items in Skyfire Mountains then hand them to Crestra in The Overthere (or any other NPC, really, even your mercenary) to update the Collect step.
