After completing the quest for your Shackle of Stone, Master Raska mentioned that you need to see Master Niska, who may be found at 456, 32 in the Court of Pain.

    You say, 'Hail, Master Niska'

Master Niska bows with elegance and grace. You can see her arms rippling with muscles. 'Greetings. We are the Swifttails. We are the harnessers of the elements. We are the tails of discipline. To achieve rebirth into our caste is a great honor indeed. We can be identified by our adornments. You should display that which we have given you to adorn your arms with pride. You do have your bracer, correct?'

You say, 'I want the Shackle of Rock.'

Master Niska strikes within inches of your snout with amazing speed. 'The shackle of rock is your interest? Then learn well our ways and prepare yourself. If the stone embraces your wrist, you are ready indeed. To complete the second rung you must find for me the [Fists of Talon].'

You say, 'What are the Fists of Talon?'

Master Niska points to the Court Chronicler. 'All that is known of Talon has been chronicled. Should you obtain the fists then you shall hand them to me. This shall earn you the shackle of rock.'

Purchase the book named "Talon Southpaw" (identifies as "Scribed by Rinmark") from the Court Chronicler nearby at 363, 48, across the courtyard from Master Niska. It reads:

    Talon Southpaw

Talon Southpaw was the fastest pugilist ever to walk within the Court of Pain. His speed rivaled that of the great Grandmaster Tynn. He could often be found within the local taverns demonstrating the awesome speed of his left fist.

Talon Southpaw came to rebirth within this caste. Although quick with fist and tail, the speed of his left arm was not to come to blossom for a couple of decades past his rebirth. It was to follow his captivity by the accursed sarnak.

Soon after fulfilling the Rung of Tynn, Talon went on a wandering retreat into the dangerous outlands of Kunark. He was not heard from for a total of 5 seasons. Upon his return to Cabilis he told of his captivity within an ancient city of the Iksar now claimed by the sarnak.

    He told of intense torture.

    He survived the ordeal.

He escaped from the claws of the sarnak with numerous scars which proved his painful ordeal. Most of the worst scars were never seen.

Talon wore a robe which he never removed. The scars underneath were for no lizard's eyes. His great perseverance gave him an inner strength no other monk could lay claim to.

He now possessed incredible, almost blinding speed with his left arm. He could trap a foe's arm with his left and strike with it as if he had a third arm! He was indeed a paragon of the Swifttails. All in the empire either respected or feared him. None would spar him outside of the taverns. With grog comes stupidity.

Upon his death in Kurn, Grandmaster Tynn removed his hands in a private ceremony. Only Tynn was allowed to gaze upon Talon's body. The fists were then sealed in a canopic which would stay within the Tower of Kurn. His body was dusted. This is his tale as told by Rinmark.

Klok Poklon may be found at +910, -70, on the first floor of the house near the castle.

    You say, 'Hail, Klok Poklon'

Klok Poklon says 'Greetings, thirsty traveler. Pull up a stool and lay yer copper down. It's time to drink and be merry. Just don't get too merry or I will have to call the troopers.'

You say, 'Who was Talon Southpaw?'

Klok Poklon feints with two quick left hooks!! 'Talon Southpaw. He had the fastest hands in the empire. I remember he once beat another lizard in an arm wrestling match. The amazing thing was, while he was gripping the croak's left hand, he left-hooked him without losing his hold!! That's quick!! I hear one of his treasured hands is in the possession of a monk called Master Rinmark.'

You say, 'Where is Master Rinmark?'

Master Bain resides in the Court of Pain at 293, -49.

Master Bain says 'Seeking Master Rinmark? He has left the Court of Pain. Gone to focus his thoughts on the elements of wind and thunder. I believe he was headed toward the Overthere. That was the last I heard of his trek.'

Find "an Iksar master" in the Timorous Deep at -5055, +2790.

You say, 'Hail, an Iksar master'

an Iksar master is humming and chanting softly. He seems oblivious to your presence.

You say, 'Are you Master Rinmark?'

an Iksar master squints one eye open, then returns to his meditation.

You say, 'Who was Talon Southpaw?'

an Iksar master waves his arms in the air. 'The great master. His soul is the wind. He speaks to us in words of thunder. He strikes Norrath with bolts of lightning. I seek to be as he is. I have traveled the globe in search of his fists. I have found only one. Another is said to be with [Gomoz]. I shall return it when I am finished with my seasons-long meditation or perhaps I shall find a monk to [return the hand to Cabilis].'

    You say, 'Who is Gomoz?'

an Iksar master says 'Disciple Gomoz was once Talon Southpaw's pupil. It is rumored that he has only one hand. Unfortunately, a horde of ogre raiders swiped his bones, along with others, from their place in Kurn's Tower. What those simple oafs plan to do with them is a mystery. Only one who has studied the arcane sciences could use them. They most likely used them as soup bones.'

You say, 'I will return the hand to Cabilis.'

an Iksar master hands you an old tattered sack. 'This shall be your proof of allegiance. Prove that you are strong with an intact mandible of a skulking brutling and the claws of a burynai excavator. Prove that you are a monk of fist and tail with a sash of an exiled human monk and the sparring gloves of a goblin pit fighter. Combined, these items make the sack full. This will earn my trust and the hand.'

You receive a Tattered Sack from Rinmark, a 4-slot container. Acquire Excavator Claws (identifies as "Burynai Excavator Claws," dropped by various burynai), Intact Brutling Choppers (dropped by a skulking brutling in Warsliks Wood), Torn Sash (identifies as "Exiled Monk Sash," dropped by a young ronin in South Ro), and Goblin Sparring Gloves (dropped by a goblin pit fighter in Warsliks Wood). Combine them to create a Full Sack for Master (identifies as "property of Rinmark"). Hand this in.

an Iksar master bows before you and takes a wrinkled, mummified hand from a pouch at his side. 'Take the hand. Let it rest within Cabilis and be reunited with the left.'
Your faction standing with Swift Tails has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis has been adjusted by 1.
    You gain experience!!

You receive Iksar Right Hand '=|-' (identifies as "Right Hand of Talon Southpaw").

Find The Great Oowomp elsewhere in the Timorous Deep at +5725, +3120.

You say, 'Hail, The Great Oowomp'

The Great Oowomp gestures as if casting a powerful spell. 'Come forward, adventurer! Come and [see the dancing skeleton]. I shall cast a powerful spell and bring forth this operatic, clattering jumble of bones and he shall do a fine dance for you. From the nether regions and planes beyond, I call forth this bardic, magical, rhyming, tap-dancing hunk of undead!! I am Oowomp the Great!!'

You say, 'I want to see the dancing skeleton.'

The Great Oowomp says 'Oh!! You wish to see the great Oowomp perform his magic!! I have studied with the grand mages and wise [McMerin clan] of Norrath, as my speech implies. I can call forth the skeleton with but a twinkling of my power and five of your gold.'

Give him 5g (or any equivalent money).

The Great Oowomp flings the coins into the air and they all fall neatly into his oversized coin pouch. 'Gaze in awe at my awesome powers of the arcane!! You, a simple citizen, shall see my power. Allakabam!!'

The Great Oowomp begins to cast a spell.

A dancing skeleton's body pulses with energy.

You say, 'Hail, a dancing skeleton'

a dancing skeleton begins to dance with a loud clatter. A cloud of dust is created. Teedle dee. Teedle doo.

a dancing skeleton says 'A dancing skeleton am I.'

a dancing skeleton says 'Dancing for you and dancing for me.'

    You say, 'Are you Gomoz?'

a dancing skeleton says 'Gomoz!! Why, that is me! I was heading off to be with the elements when I was captured by this smelly ogre. Actually, he is not as smelly as most.'

a dancing skeleton says 'Dancing for the great Oowomp!! Wheee!!'

You say, 'Who was Talon Southpaw?'

a dancing skeleton says 'Master Talon Southpaw!! He was my master. Dead, he became. Off to the elements. I keep his special hand with me. Perhaps I should have it returned. Maybe I shall find a young adventurer to [return the hand to Cabilis].'

You say, 'I will return the hand to Cabilis.'

a dancing skeleton says 'Yes!! Return the hand. Here it is. Missing four it is. Within the tower of past pain and torture is where the four lie. Taken by bones similar to myself.'

a dancing skeleton says 'Dancing and singing is my life!!'

You receive a "hand with one only a thumb" [sic] (identifies as "Palm of Talon Southpaw").

Head to Kurn's Tower and keep killing the fingered skeleton until you have looted:

A Withered 2.5 Inch Finger (identifies as "Finger 3 Of Talon's Hand")
A Withered 3 Inch Finger (identifies as "Finger 2 Of Talon's Hand")
A Withered 3.1 Inch Finger (identifies as "Finger 1 Of Talon's Hand")
A Withered 4 Inch Finger (identifies as "Finger 4 Of Talon's Hand")

Combine these in the hand container to craft an Iksar Left Hand '=|-' (identifies as "Left Hand of Talon Southpaw.").

Finally, an Iksar Left Hand '=|-' (identifies as "an Iksar Left Hand") drops from a Sarnak courier in the Lake of Ill Omen.

Hand in the three hands to Master Niska.

Master Niska shakes her head. 'Tsk, tsk, tsk. There were more of Talon's Fists than this. Only by gathering all of his fists shall you earn the shackle of rock and bring you closer to the third rung.'

Master Niska shakes her head. 'Tsk, tsk, tsk. There were more of Talon's Fists than this. Only by gathering all of his fists shall you earn the shackle of rock and bring you closer to the third rung.'

Master Niska removes a crudely hewn shackle. 'This is yours. It is one of the keys to the third rung. I see that you are truly a great monk and have studied your disciplines well. I have need of one such as you. I have heard of [troubles with an outlander].'

Your faction standing with Swift Tails got better.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis got better.
    You gain experience!!
You receive 1 gold from Master Niska.

You receive the Shackle of Rock.

    Brutling
    # Jun 09 2001 at 2:09 AM Rating: Good
This is a diffcult part of the quest but I hope this helps... It is not a pygmy brutling you are looking for but a skulling Brutling. We killed him 5 times today and he spawns around loc neg1200 pos4000. I went to this loc after reading that sometimes he gets stuck in the wall here " which is true" but what we did was kill the iksar manslayer at a rough loc of -1279 pos 4138. After we killed the manslayer the brutling would either walk down the valley near the pond, or appear down stream, down the waterfall and almost near the second waterfall going down. First 3 times I got broken choppers which has nothing to do with casting or melle on him as people belive, this is just random. On the forth kill I got the intact Brutling choppers and Im good to go.

SO u all know oowamp was and never has been KOS to anyone but the guards around him are and if they aggro you oowamp will join them so watch out. Its best to have a few high levels kill the ogres around oowamp and oowamp himself he spawns faster so when he pops handhim the 5gp talk to the skele get your fist and get out of there. Good Luck

ok is it a pygmy skulkling bruteling or is it a skulking brute i have never seen a skulking bruteling is it a rare spawn?

It is a Skulking Bruteling and yes they are hard to find. So don't go after Skulking Brutes or Skulking Runtlings or Pygmy Skulking Brutelings. Just focus on Skulking Brutelings. Find a ranger or druid to help you out and be patient cause it can take a while.
Locs of Skeles in Past Pain and Torture
    # May 19 2001 at 7:42 PM Rating: Default
i now have the locs of the fingered skele spawn in the Tower of Past Pain and Torture (A.K.A. Kurn's Tower, but in the quest it's called the other name) The fingered skele is in the basment, as many if not all of you know, and is not too rare but can be a pain if you're in a hurry. It is at what is know as the "stables"(they are hallways with small rooms on either side) he is in between the 1st and 2nd set of stables in a small area that is some-what cut away from the wall. anyways his spawn loc is as follows: 23.22, 38.31, -38.22 (the last one is the altitude, he is in the basement so it is below "sea level" and therefore the # is negative) he is near where the jester and cook spawn and these three are heavily camped (not the cook as much) so get there early and stay there late =P hope this is of some use to y'all!!

    SKULKING BRUTLING LOCATION AND PLACEHOLDER
    # May 16 2001 at 8:02 PM Rating: Default
    Greetings,
I just recantly found a most excellent loc to overlook the valley the brutling will wander down. It is -2208, +2490 it is on top of a rock at that location. Also I found that Goblin Bonecasters seem to be the placeholder for the skulking brutling. Everytime I killed a goblin bonecaster a few minutes later a skulking brutling would come wandering down the valley. Everyone good luck on this majorly annoying quest.

I camped the Sarnak Courier and got it within 30 mins. Very lucky indeed. By the way I saw him pop and killed him at neg 3342 pos 456 very near the goblin ruin between the sarnak fort and the windmill in the vally. Thnx for the reply and good luck to all :)

Hi guys. I read the shackle quests originally when they werent complete and just put the igredient list in the back of my mind, knowing thta someday I would do the quests for my monk. I killed the warbones that drop the fist in LoIO and also the currier and took his drop too and stashed it away in the locker. The problem is...Now I dont remember which fist came from what guy. One looks like a spider claw and the other looks like a bunyai fist. Which is the correct one for the shackle of rock quest?

I just got an intact brutling chopper about two hours ago, after 3 days of killing everything that moves in the area. I was clearing the valley that starts just south of the bandit lake and runs to the giant camp, and saw 4 brutlings in that time. Three were spotted at around -1500, 2500 (on the ridge on the north side of the valey), and the last one was a little south, on the southern ridge.

It seems that the apes tend to stay on the ridges among the trees, making them rather difficult to find, but they DO spawn.

got mine when it wondered near the bandit lake to the south west corner of WW.

20 levels later.. omw to Overthere, I see this sucker stuck on the hill at n1200, 4000. this may explain why it doesn't roam where it is supposed to. so go over to that loc and see if you get lucky and find it. and kill whatever mob happen to be stuck there for it might be a placeholder. good luck. =)

The same thing happened to me, Mythak. I had spoken with everyone about the quest and had every piece of the quest on me and was wearing my previous quest shackle and he wouldn't speak with me. If you have done the previous quests and you con amiably to the iksar master then you should petition. I did and when the GM showed up he asked me to speak with the Iksar Master so he could see what he says. Then he asked if I had enough faction with the Swifttails. When I told him that I conned amiably, the GM had me con the iksar master and /report it. After he saw that I was telling the truth, the GM spoke to the iksar master and gave me the no-drop quest bag and I was able to do the quest. Hope this helps you out and good luck on the next quest!
    This Quest the Fun Way
    # Mar 20 2001 at 6:10 PM Rating: Good
I started this quest at 17 and am now 20 after finishing it, Yea it takes some time, but I just looked at it a a guid as to where I should bonk things on the head. This quest is good 'cause you get xp form all the stuff you kill if you start it at this Lvl.
I started with the painfull part of the quest first. I headed to Trem Deep from The Overthere and jumped off the boat quick as zoned, and headed left till I hit the Island w/the chessboard. "an Isikar Master" is on the peaks of one of the mountains, I'm sure an exact loc can be found somewhere on this page. I got the pouch from him and then, well Im glad I'm a iskar because I decided instead of waiting for the boat I'd just swim up to the ogre village, stopping for a sec at the ring on ships to get back my stamina, being ware of the pirates. Here comes the poopy part. The Great OOwomp and the skele he summons are indiffernt to you, but all the ogres Kos your behind, and they'll join in the kicking you around party. a few suggestions in hindsight, High Lvl chars camp Mr DooWap or whatever his name is and whils't waiting around for him to pop don't mind helpin' you out. I cleared out a few orges so I could talk the Mr Oowamp privatly. Unfortuianlty he and a patrolman poped at the same time. oh well i decided to try to sneak. got up and gave him my 5 gp to summon the skele. then next thing I know a smack me down party was underway, tried to run and feign.. got a ways away... it worked but some nasty Dot Oowamp threw at me finished me off. Oh Btw get bined in the ovethere is makes life a bit easier. While retreiving my corpse I noticed the dancing skele hadn't moved off my rotting form. he was a ways from the village so it made having achat easy, After getting the missing finger hand I headed to Oasis of Marr (why not I'm already half way there eh?)
From there joined a small derv camp group. I had the young ronin spawn fairly quickly (might have gotten lucky) in the camp against the wall NOT the one closer to the lake. But of course I stuck around with my group getting xp. Got 18 here and pardoned myself to go back to my monk guild to learn Instil doubt.
Stopped by Warsliks woods and hunted for the bruteling chompers. I followed the river south till it came to "bandit lake" I was overwweigh but everything conned blue to me arund here, goblins and marauders. I didn't see any brutelings. Apon kicking in a few kneecamps I decide to look on the hill, an low and behold, hiding in the trees, against the zone wall were not one but 3 skulking brutelings. Worried that I'd pull all 3 on myself I attampted a fd pull... runnig wo/looking back. getting up I noticed only 1 sucka folloed me. How nice. A few pimp slaps later I was the proud owner of some chompers. Oh and you might want to forage here for petrified redwood a sackle quest a ways down the road. (And I scorunged up a 5 lb carrot once).
After unloading in town I headed to the FoB and rallied up a goblin fort group, or comversly you can walk thru WW and see if anybody's in camping and ask nicely if you can loot the pitfighter gloves. Once again ganin xp from ccamping and getting some pitfighter gloves as well.
Then off to Kurn's. Make sure you got yrr FD up because those bunari in groups can lay you out cold. I soloed the bottom part of kurns 18-19 where the fingered skele spawns. Wandering about the "stalls" I camped the jester, the cook, the thick boned, and the fingered skeles. (only seeing the thick boned and fingered skeles, usually thhick boned, and once the cook no jester though). The Thick Boned drops Fine Steelwhich sells for 4-5 pp. but means you got to head to town to keep the waight down. as the fingered/thick boned are on about a 20 min spawn I also bonked lesser icebones (although they caused my a bit of trouble) and any of those rodents that conned blue. Died once form a instil doubt inishiated train. (you did get rebound in the Fob right?) Got 2 fingers. The next day I was playin' there was a high lvl char camping the jester (not the uncommon it seems at the club sell for like 8k) and she was quite kind and had been sititng there a while... low and behold she had every finger. Oh of course you killed a bunari excavitor? yeesh the drop hands like mad no need discussing getting that.
I always get nervous when I hit the combine button but for both parts the joined flawlessly. Now to the last part of this excursion. the Lake of Ill Omen. I've read many a post as to the whearabouts of the snark curriour. As no one has seen him pop, well it's useless cause he roams the ENTIRE RIGHT HALF OF THE FIGGIN' ZONE. Well I was at the ruins north of the windmill (I picked up a partner and was getting xp), knowing he walks tru there. I politly threw out a couple ooc's kindly asking if anybody saw the fooligit to let me know. about 1/2 hour later a ranger kindly informed me she had him on track. She squished him like a bug and gave my the loc. Very nice.
took the nessisary side trip to Trem deep (forage here like mad as well to find Riles sand coin) to hand in the full sack, stopping in WW again to join a forest giant camp. then turned all the hands in and presto! a new shackle.
All in all it did take me some time, but think of it as multi tasking. Instead of just bonking thing on the head for xp and loot, bonk on their head for xp/loot/ and quest items.

i found the intact choppers on the skulking brutling in the valley between giant fort and bandit lake approx. at loc negative 1600, positive 2800. Took me about 6 hours and only Skulking Brutlings to find it

good luck to all of you, i know you'll need it
    Fingers of skellie

Finally got the 4 fingers of the skellie in Kurns Tower, took me 6 hours.
Just kill every skellie that is near the stables where he spawns
Oh and maybe not a bad idea to check the Jester also, as it spawns near by
    Finally did it

This quest takes time due to the fact that you have to deal with slow spawn rates.

For the fingered skel, plan to camp for 4 hours. If you don't kill 4 fingered skels consecutively, then your camp is going to take even longer because each of the fingers to be used are different. So if you have the 4" finger and come back later and kill one with a 4" finger, you won't be able to use it.

The Brutlings are a pain, this part took me about 5 hours because many of the brutlings I got to spawn had that crappy stuff. The long valley that goes from bandit lake to the fort is where you need to hunt. Be sure to look around after each kill because they like to stay high. And if you see one in mid battle with some stupid greeny mob, go after the brutling immediately. I decided to finish off a greeny real quick and I couldn't find the brutling after he went in the woods some. This can take a long time, it can take a short time, it's really random. However, killing goblin casters seems to bring out either the rutlings and brutlings. So if you see a bonecaster or witchdoctor, get them. It may also help if you can get a sow before you start hunting.

The Oowoop isn't a big deal. He spawns near a stone hut close to the water... approx +5700,+3000. He's indifferent so you don't need pull him away or anything, very easy.

Don't get off at the shipwrecks, take the boat on its way out of the zone and you'll pass near the chessboard island.

Oh, the spawn rate for the goblin pitfighter is not 7 minutes, it's more like every 15 minutes. I had to go through 2 spawns before the pitfighter appeared, thankfully I guess they still spawn with the gloves each time. The loc given seems fine, but just in case you wonder, it's the very open, ruined building with a path going through it. Watch out for named goblin that goes by there once in a while.

May Cazic-Thule bless you in your journey.

    Watch Out for the elf

Oh My God, if you arent a pimp monk, I must say watch out for that roaming high elf on the island with the chessboard, I had to have a extremely high level wizard jboot to my corpse and pull it back to me, that son of a slapnut wiped me out good, other than that the quest was easy ..

Pitfighter GLOVES? The pitfighter gloves are white and are not what you need. Pitfighter HANDWRAPS are brown, and are the correct item.

Were you absolutly positive that you had the Skulking brutling choppers. There are a few different choppers and they look the same. I got the bag to combine and got the fist.
