This is an anniversary shared task (1-6 players) introduced with EverQuest's 16th anniversary. It begins with Captain Jack Aviak (click for map image) in the Plane of Knowledge (located outside the entrance to the library at /loc 0, 650, 3).

This task acts as a heroic adventure. Mob levels inside the instanced zone will vary according to the highest level player presently in the zone.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Level 75
- No other requirements

Say "help" to request the task and "depart" to zone in.

You say, 'Hail, Captain Jack Aviak'

Captain Jack Aviak says 'Ahoy, landlubber! Would ye be havin' a moment to listen to me [tale]?'

You say, 'What tale?'

Captain Jack Aviak says 'Aye, and a sad tale it be. Standin' before ye be the most feared pirate ever to sail the Timorous seas! Or I was 'til that bilge rat [Turek] mutinied and left me to rot on a deserted isle. He shoulda killed me when he had the chance. I'll see him dancin' the hempen jig, or my name ain't Jack Aviak!'

You say, 'Who is Turek?'

Captain Jack Aviak says 'He used ta be me first mate, the mangy son of a flea-bitten bitch! I never liked 'im much, but he kept the crew in line. Now he's taken me livelihood, leavin' me a captain without a [ship].'

You say, 'What ship?'

Captain Jack Aviak says 'Arrr, a good crew be hard to find, but not hard as a good ship. I'll be wantin' me ship back, and proper repayment given to me former crew. I'll be needin' some [help] though, in the short term anyways. You lookin' to make a few plat?'

You say, 'I will help'

Captain Jack Aviak says 'Ah matey, I had a feelin' I could count on ya. Let me know when ye be ready to [depart] an' I'll lead ya to where they be hidin'.'

You have been assigned the task 'Pirates of Timorous Deep'.

Captain Jack Aviak has hired you to eliminate the traitorous pirates who stole his ship and left him to die.

Speak with Jack Aviak 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

You say, 'Hail, Captain Jack Aviak'

Captain Jack Aviak says 'This be as close as we could get without them scallywags seein' us. Looks like Turek be wastin' no time bringin' on more hands. We won't be sneakin' up ta 'im all rogue-like with so many extra eyes. Best to poke 'em out as we go. You'd not be [runnin'] away on me now, would ya matey?'

(Saying "runnin" zones you back out.)

Kill the pirate crew members 0/32 (Timorous Deep)

Crew members are found throughout the zone-in island (in and around the ruins) and the island to its west. They hit for a max ~15,500, and are mezzable, stunnable, and rootable/snareable.

This step will be open throughout the task, and you'll get your 32 kills as you move along.

Kill the Shady Swashbuckler 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

The Shady Swashbuckler is in one of the ruins and is single-pullable. He also hits for a max ~14,500 (backstabs for much higher) and is mezzable, stunnable, and rootable/snareable. He is buffed with "Dancing Blades" (increase ATK by 1,500 and adds a defensive piercing proc). He also casts "Knife Throw" (random single-target nuke for 45,000 dmg).

At timed intervals, he goes non-aggro and disappears, reappearing shortly after and auto-aggroing a random target, proccing "Shady Backstab" on the target (feign death + nuke for 84,000 dmg).

Speak with Jack Aviak 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

You say, 'Hail, Captain Jack Aviak'

Captain Jack Aviak says 'Never did like Shady. Let's be headin' across the water to the next camp. I'll lead the way.'

Kill Bosun Darwor 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

Bosun Darwor is located in the ruins found on the island to the west. He hits for a max ~15,000 and is mezzable, stunnable, and rootable/snareable. He casts the random single-target spells "Whip Lash" (stun + feign death + nuke for 39,000 dmg) and "Whip Toss" (nuke for 110,000 dmg). (The "Whip Toss" effect does 55,000 dmg if you're in a lower level version of the task.)

Speak with Jack Aviak 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

You say, 'Hail, Captain Jack Aviak'

Captain Jack Aviak says 'Always kept the crew in line, he did. It'll be hard findin' a replacement. You'll be havin' to get wet again, seein' as we be headin' across to the next island.'

Kill Navigator Os`kela 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

Navigator Os`kela is found at the top of the aviak village in the northwesternmost island of the zone. She is of the same difficulty of other mobs in the zone, except she procs "Whip Lash" (random single-target, as above).

Speak with Jack Aviak 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

You say, 'Hail, Captain Jack Aviak'

Captain Jack Aviak says 'Such a cold wench she was. I won't be missin' her. Now it be time for Turek. This way matey.'

Kill Captain Turek 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

Captain Turek is in the southwesternmost ruined 'home' in the southwestern area of the same island (you'll see a big pirate ship here). He hits for a max ~15,000 and is stunnable, mezzable, and snareable/rootable. He is leashed to this area.

During the fight, a damage spell called "Cannonball" (77,000 dmg) is cast, which is preceded by a warning emote eight seconds in advance. This AE lands in a specific area and is avoidable by being outside the area (should be visible with particle effects).

Captain Turek shouts 'Prepare to fire the cannon!'

He also casts "Tendon Slice" (DOT for 12,800/tick + snare; no counters) and "Fathom Crush" (random single-target nuke for 25,000 dmg; also adds a curse-based debuff also called "Fathom Crush" which, if not cured, increases the damage of the initial nuke by 600%).

Other than these abilities, he is of the same difficulty as other mobs in the zone (with the same amount of hitpoints).

If you allowed Captain Turek to be hit with the "Cannonball" aura effect, he drops a "Burnt Treasure Map".

Captain Jack Aviak says 'Ah, what a find this woulda' been. 'Tis a shame it be all burnt. 'Twas all the cannonfire, I be guessin'.'

If you killed him before that was cast, or if you moved him out of the auras before it was cast, he drops a "Treasure Map", which can be turned in to Captain Jack Aviak in the instanced zone and right-clicked to lead the way to a chest, inside which is the bonus item.

Speak with Jack Aviak 0/1 (Timorous Deep)

You say, 'Hail, Captain Jack Aviak'

Captain Jack Aviak kicks the corpse several times and says 'I bet you never saw that comin' you mutinous dog!' Jack Aviak calms down and says 'I be havin' my ship back thanks ta you matey. Here's the reward I promised ya. Jack Aviak be a man of his word. I'm sure you'd like to be [runnin'] off to enjoy it now, aye?'

Rewards:
5x "Commemorative Coin"
400 platinum
Experience (about 6 AAs at Level 105)

Bonus Item:
Shimmering Black Pearl (don't allow Captain Turek to be hit by the Cannonball effect, loot Treasure Map, right-click to follow to chest with loot)

I got the map but above just says right click it. That did nothing. I handed it to Captain Jack. Got it back, he says keep it. Then I right clicked and it created a "Find" pathway to the treasure.

Hand Map to Captain Jack
Captain Jack Aviak says, "Looks like Turek had a bit'o loot hidden here abouts. Keep it matey. Good Hutnin'!'

I guess I should have looked at the dates on the posts, but he lasted literally 1 second at 115. Pulled with the warrior and as soon as he got to the group the rogue 1-rounded him (2.6 million assassinate and a little melee). No emotes or reason to do anything.

Kill him first then do the rest of the mission. The whole mission lasted 15 mins top with the rogue riposte-assassinating everything. Super easy.

After the initial hail of Jack at the zone in, you can move directly to the next camps without returning to Jack's position after killing the named. Jack pops at the spot Turek dies, and you can spam hail him for step/task completion.

If your doing the map part, Jack does run off after final hails, but returns to spot behind huts near Tursk.

Surprised at how easy this was. Molo'd this today (102 SK). In regards to Turek, just snare him and move him anytime the target ring appears. Very nice reward for such an easy mission.

Stupidly killed all mobs till we got to Turek. Over 1h grinding. Then we killed him in an instant. Didn't saw ANY MESSAGE for cannonball. But we got a Burnt Treasure Map. So I assume that canonball-link to a burnt map is wrong.

People recommend because of getting Burnt Maps randomly: First kill Turek, if the map is not burnt, then kill all other mobs. So you don't waste time with this.

Addon:
He "Says"Shouts: Prepare to fire the cannon", so if you have to much text in your window then you can oversee it easily.

Easy way:

- AE-Ensnare and kite the three mobs around (Turek and his 2 fellow companions)
- AA: Negation of Subtlety (Aggro-AA) helps greatly
- another Toon with Healer/Nuker combination for safety

Then you only need to ensnare them all regularly.

If Turek gets a grip on you he can cast a slow so you have a big problem with kiting and running from him!! So never let him touch you!

You can no longer leave the mission without completing it if you get the burnt map.

Kill the bosses first .. if u get map then clear the 32 mobs u need. Last boss just kite and burn ... Necro pulled and used 3 merc's on burn. No pets. Just don't want him standing in one place to avoid the cannonballs.

Very easy...

Started this with a group of 87/88s. Warrior with 5300AC and 46K hps was being hit for 9039. I wouldn't waste your time with this unless you're 100+. It scales down terribly.

My 82nd level group tried this one, and the trash mobs killed us in 2 or 3 hits each... not 2 or 3 rounds 2 or 3 hits. And had 5 boatloads of hps. After we recovered from our first death we kited one down and it took over 10 minutes and taxed our mana. Guess this will be one for another anniversary when that group is higher level.

Conversely it was one of the easier ones for my 105th level crew.

Killed the Captain before he cast Cannonball and looted a Treasure Map off of him. Right click the Treasure Map and it gives you a waypoint to the "buried treasure". Open the chest for the aug.
