This quest is offered by Drill Master Dal in East Cabilis. He is found -250, -125, 32.

You say, 'Hail, Drill Master Dal'

Drill Master Dal says 'Yes, yes!! What do I have here?!! Another [new recruit]? If so, then speak up! If not, then leave and do not waste my time nor risk your life. I also seek a [legion soldier] if you be one.'

You say, 'I am a legion soldier'

Drill Master Dal says 'Good news to my ears!! I seek to prove to the War Baron that the infamous forsaken band of thieves who call themselves Marrtail's Marauders are operating within earshot of our city. You must bring me proof that you encountered no fewer than four of these thieves. Do so and I shall off you an armor item unavailable to most.'

Hand in four Marauder Snout Ring 'MM' (dropped by iksar marauders in the zones surrounding Cabilis):

Drill Master Dal hands you a shimmering black piece of armor which smells quite horrid. You find it hard to keep it from slithering out of your hand. 'Here is the armor the tailors have been working on for the legion. You may test it for us. Keep up your fine work and I may have other pieces available for you to test.'

Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis could not possibly get any better.

As of this date, on a freshly minted Iksar Warrior with Amiable faction, xp for this quest was 17% at level 1. Not bad. Can request at level 1. Received all the positive faction hits mentioned, will note the amounts should I complete again.

you have to be higher than indifferant to the leigion of cabilis to do this quest..........
I am indifferant to legion and he wouldn't take them...told me to aid cabilis further and i would get what i was looking for...i.e. FACTION FACTION FACTION FACTION FACTION FACTION FACTION FACTION!!!

What's disappointing is that the armor is such garbage. If you don't have better than this (ie leather) by the time you're high enough level to kill the marauders you won't have enough ac to kill them anyway.

Dude...without doing some serious faction work, you are definately out of luck. I suggest you sell the snout rings or give them to a newbie Iksar, if you are feeling generous.

Leave Cabilis to the scaled skins.

I have a 52 Troll Shaman who is now Warmly to everything in Cabilis, except the necros, who con indifferent. It can be done, but at lvl 14, it is too much of a pain. As a worshipper of Cazic Thule, my Shammy apparently had an easier time with faction increases than worshippers of other gods, by what I have heard others mention.

Firstly - Kill lots of sarnaks and marauder-type mobs to raise legion faction until they are not KOS - this will take time. I lived in Loio from lvl 14 till lvl 29, and in that time killed a LOT of Sarnaks, getting Legion faction up to indifferent by the time I moved to Great Divide for Tizmaks.

There are two factions to Cabilis gate guards though - here is how you fix the second. Field of Bone, Trooper Mozo will let all players that are not KOS to Legion faction give him bone chips. It took me around 1500-2000 bone chips, given 4 at a time (you can give 16 at a time in 4 stacks) to raise faction with the SK guards to non-KoS. While doing this quest EXPECT to die. Get self bound next to Kaesora, or if a caster, somewhere away from the gates - I bound at the entrance to Kurns Tower. Buy bones from Lowlevelers, and slaughter skellies in Kurns when you can do so without disrupting lower level player's hunting.

The Field of Bone guards walk in a Pattern - watch the pattern and learn it. Each guard has his own pattern timing, and they overlap slightly, so the overall pattern is not the same every time. When both SK guards are gone from near Mozo - rush in and start unloading bone chips as fast as you can - watch for returning SK guards. They HT for 700 hp, so you can't let them get close.

After you are no longer KOS to SK guards, you should also no longer have difficulty speaking to most merchants. Some however are on Necro faction, which, as far as I have seen, is only affected by one common monster type - Marauder-Bandit-Exile type Iksar mobs. To gain access to all places in Cabilis, and all vendors, you need to kill hundreds of these guys.

Back to FoB again! There is a marauder bandit cave on the coast of FoB across from the island that the Tangrin lives on. It spawns marauders and higher type iksar mobs, and also has a special little "bonus" There is a named rogue Iksar around lvl 32-35 that can pop there too - so be careful. Collect MM rings from these guys as you kill the mobs for faction. Why? because the MM ring quest is about the best EXP quest in the game for the ease of finding the quest items. You will raise faction with warriors and some others every time you do the quest, get a crummy piece of armor, and a NICE chunk of exp. At lvl 45 when I turned in 8 sets of 4 rings, it would actually make the exp bar move half a blue bub or so - and at 45 killing the named in the cave was Cake, the MM rings are common as well.

It takes time, and is probably not worth it for anyone under lvl 35 to even try to clear the Necro faction, but after 35 or so, depending on your equipment and skill, you can make decent progress and expect to have full access to Cabilis in around 48 hours of dedicated time.

Though I am a tit for responding to a post that is now three years old, I would like to add some short cuts to his advice.

    1) There is an Necro AA named 'Flesh To Bone' that can produce 2k bonechips in about 30 minutes. Granted, you must be near the meat vendor & bank in ShadowHaven, but it's beats shaking noobs down for chips or KSing in Kurns.

    2) [Pet Class Only][Horse Only] If you need your Cabilis or Brood of Kotiz faction up to snuff, here is a great way. The three mobs at the 'Bandit Lord' camp in Warsliks Woods (LOC: POS 565, POS 2455) will attack you, regardless of your level. If you park there overnight with a horse (a horse prevents you from being pushed out of the camp & allows you to heal) 3 mobs will attack you every six minutes and will be decimated by your pet. After a day, you'll get 720 postive Cabilis/BoK faction hits (30 mobs/hr x 24 = 720), plus any ill-fated goblins that run across your path. Bring about 6 stacks of food/water, you'll need them.
Generally speaking, you should only attempt this gambit if your 50th level or higher. Lower than this, and you might have some deaths (I did it with a 44th level necro, but I had a Virtue on).

    3) While you're turning in your Bone Chips to the Trooper, make sure you are standing at the torch he is next to AND at the maximum distance you can trade; you will be able to turn your bone chips in w/o aggroing the Crusaders. I turned in 2.5k bone chips w/o any problems.

    Good Luck, and have fun!

Note that Sarnaks also give you BoK faction (Necro). If you have spent a lot of time in the Sarnak fort or hunting in the Overthere 30 to 40 level area, you are probably going to have good faction with the Necros. Maitten is correct, if you stand next to the torch in the corner behind Mozo, you are able to give him Bone Chips there without the Crusaders coming after you.
    Incorrect faction info
    # May 03 2002 at 4:00 AM Rating: Decent
The faction adjustment for killing Sarnaks is higher Legion of Cabilis and lower Sarnak Collective/Brood of Dizok. The only way for a KOS person to raise Brood of Kotiz is kill the Iksar who are on the forsaken faction (Manslayers, bandits, footpads, exiles, and the like).

Good info! I've gotten my agnostic Troll Warrior up to the point where he can enter the city now. I gave bone chips successfully without dying once. Come in from the north side and hug the wall, then stand with you back against the north wall and give bone chips to Mozo from as far away as possible. The Crusaders would walk past me all the time and not agro on me even when I was still at the 'scowls' stage.

I think that the quest has everything to do with faction. I just turned 6 with my ShadowKnight and Drill Master Dal gave me the quest. Also I thought the idea of quests were to interact with other players and explore the world. I see the items and XP given out at the end of the quest as a bonus.

as a level 15 monk i only got 1 blue bubble of exp, which is less than half of what i got for killing 4 marauders. somewhat disappointing, but maybe worth the faction. all good faction with LegionOfCabilis, CabilisResidents, ScaledMystics, CrusadersOfGreenmist and Swifttails

Best place for snout rings are in a cave along the beach where the ghoast roams, DO NOT swim out to Tingrin, he will **** you. And you have to be really careful of the lord of that cave he conned blue to 44enc, but besides that it is full of maraduers, they drop a snout ring every time actually it is kind of annoying seeing all those go to waist.

I met a barbarian rogue who wanted to buy the armor cause it looked good on him. black leather sorta stuff. now if this was real life, I don't think anyone but the iksar would wanna wear that crap, ew. I did this quest cause it was something better to do with those rings then chuck em or sell em. I gained at least 2 levels off them alone, and at level 17, I'm still getting descent experience for it. It's not hard, just when hunting in the lake, I have to make trips back to taown anyway. I usually have about 3 or 4 sets of them. monks can't wear them by the way....
    Necro's

So it seems that this doesn't work for Necro's? I just tried it with mine, and he got told "Serve the Legion of Cabilis futher and you may get what you seek."

Any ideas? Faction off or something?

Necros can do the quiest fine, and it's not level restricted either. This issue was almost certainly faction. Did you get the quest dialog from talking to the NPC? Usually if you don't have enough faction to do the turn in, they NPC won't give you the quest dialog either (although I've found some annoying exceptions to that).
    RE: Necro's
    # Apr 12 2001 at 3:42 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, it does work for Necro's. I have a 14th level Necro and did the quest just fine. Got a pair of the leggings. If might be due to your level. I had one of my friends who was a 6th level SK and he had the same message come up. Gain some levels and try again.

#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 3:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

    Experience
    # Aug 31 2000 at 3:20 PM Rating: Decent
The exp you get back from this quest is huge at lower levels, especially for a tradeable item. Simply /acution to buy rings or check cabilis vendors, and you will be able to fly through the lower levels and get yourself some decent low-level armor at the same time. If you wait around until you can solo marauders, the exp you get back is a lot lower and by then you probably have better armor. If these rings we no-drop, I think you could argue that it's a bad quest. Since they aren't - it becomes a great way to get exp and armor early. I found this quest when my iksar was level 8 and I got to 13 just on rings...not that I recommend that but the exp is that good.
    RE: Experience
    # Dec 12 2000 at 5:08 AM Rating: Default
Numerically turning in four rings gives you 37500 exp. Lightstones and Greater Lightstones give 7500 exp each, so four rings are better than the lightstone quest, but it is offset by the fact that you are basically a troll for modifier as an iksar.
    windmill
    # Jan 06 2001 at 1:21 AM Rating: Decent
if u have a second account, go to the windmill in lake of ill omen, i bought cartloads of bp's full of MM rings from the dorf in that windmill and ran them back and forth to cabalis gate for my shammy. He leveled great up to around lv18-20, then exp kinda peetered off. if u know how to unlock diff items from vendors that's great, i just got lucky and MM rings were up...seems to be alot of foresaken iks in the area and all the good races just sell them to the vendor here cuz they are useless to them
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 27 2000 at 7:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have a low level wood elf druid and this armor looks realy good to show off with and junk. I have collected a full set with my iksar monk and transfered the armor to my druid. This armor may be worthless as far as protection goes, but it looks great on a low level druid! Thanks Verant for some half decent looking Druid armor! Yay!

Although the armour is not particularly valuable, the experience from this quest remains worthwhile into one's early twenties. Thirty-two snout rings, for instance, should fetch a twentieth level Iksar warrior over a bubble of experience; the armor really is not the main point of the quest. Save the leach husk wear with its lovely black sheen for dress occasions, or give the armor to a dedicated young Iksar who can use it. Do not, however, claim that this quest is pointless.
