You say, 'What breastplate?'

Sarth Scarscale says 'Ahhhh....a breastplate you want, is it? Well, they are not easy to come by. Fetch me a scorpion chitin. Intact, mind you! They are extremely fragile and must be treated before they can protect your carcass. Also, fetch me a war braid from a sarnak to connect the pieces. I also require a ruby and your banded tunic. Do this and I shall make it for you, hatchling. Now, go!'

Sarth Scarscale says 'Well done! Here is the item we agreed upon. May Cazic's glorious curses flow through you!'

You gain experience!!

The Scorpion Chitin drops from the Large Heartsting Scorpion in the Field of Bone. The Sarnak War Braid drops from a Sarnak berserker in Frontier Mountains and The Overthere.

Need hand-in dialogues, faction hits if any.

Updated, thanks.

We still need a full log of the quest in modern times.

Also, the Large Scorpion Chitin drop appears to take some people hours of placeholder killing, and multiple spawns of the correct scorpion to get. So don't start this quest expecting a short time, but hopefully you have good luck!

ok first of all i'vs got to say that this is my first char so i had no money and no uber stuff st start off with and i'm just after getting my last piece of the dreadscale quest armor, i'm lvl 33, here's how i got it all:

-got the gaunts at lvl 23: dropped the skelie hand off the charbone skelies in LOIO (fear kited 2 reds, dropped on the 2nd one) bought the star rubies and banded gaunts.

-got the breastplate at lvl 26: a friend necro (lvl27) helped me kill some sarnak berzekers (con red to a lvl 27) in the OT for the war braid which was easy as hell, got the chitin off the large heartsting scorpions near Kurn's Tower in FoB, bought a ruby and banded tunic.

-got the boots at lvl 26: got the cactus quills off the thorny succulents in the OT(at the same time as the war braid with my necro buddy), these guys con red to a lvl 27, then camped the thick boned skelie in Kurn's tower's dinning room (he coned green or light blue), got his feet after 5 or 6 kills. Bought fire emerald and banded boots.

-got the bracer at lvl 29: just got a high lvl guy to slay a few bloodgill goblins (they are lvl 35+) in the middle of LOIO, looted the scales, bought banded bracer and saphire. I know it sucks to let high lvl toons do the job, but this was just basic killing, and by the time i would be able to kill them myself, the bracer would be trivial to me...

-got the greaves & helm at lvl 31: got the sarnak berseker head (at the same time as the war braid) for the helm and Grachnist's head (for the greaves) by fear kiting Grachnist a few times in WW (his head dropped the 3rd time, this guy cons yellow to a lvl 31). Then the tricky part was to get Zorash to spawn in the OT, as you know he is a rare drop and his boots (needed for the leggings) are a rare drop... A lvl 58 sk friend helped me clean out the mudhole ruins for 2 hours, no sign of zorash, i decided to go cheak out the other sarnak places and found him in the ruins just north of the FM zone entrance, coned yellow, pulled him, my friend controled adds, killed him, got boots the first time (sorry for the guys that camped this guy for weeks, but hey, dont hate ther player, hate the game hehe) . Then need the sarnak knight's sword (they only drop of the knight's in BW at Chardok entrance, so dont waste your time with the OT knights). First knight we saw had a sword, coned red so my friend killed it for me, bought banded, bought gems and got my stuff =)

-got the vambraces at lvl 33, camping the hulking gulra's iceberg in timorous deep was easy (no wandering mobs) but took 23 kills to get the skin and there is only 3 different hulking spawns (they respawn every 15min) so this was about a 4 hour camp... bough 2 saphires, bought banded and woot! complete dreadscale!

you'll realize i didn't do the mask because i just HATE firiona vie zone, kos to everything, everything sees invis, and couldn't find that named drixie.
Anyway, if you want this armor, DO NOT BUY IT! be a real iksar shadow knight! This quest realy though me how to play my char, even though the armor isn't so great with the uber stuff you can find nowadays, it's still a fun quest to do, and beleave me, you will feel as sexy as hell when you're dressed in the armor of a real crusader of Greenmist!

Is the Bandid Tunic the same a Banded Mail?
Some things bout quest
# Apr 14 2002 at 6:36 PM Rating: Default
Ohk, first things first, the Chitin drops off of Large heartsing scorpions which are usually behind kurns tower on sand. Some have been known to spawn from grassy area near kurns but most ppl die bcause of the frequent skeletons and icebone that patrol there. Beware of manslayer also.

Normal hearsting scorpion drop 3 kinds of loot.

1.) a scorpion telson which is worth 3gp

2.) scorpion pincer-non caster

3.) scorpion telson- casting ( effect poison bolt which is one charge.)

To help, Large hearstings look like a large scorpion compared to a giant one, its 1/3 bigger than its cousin the heartsting scorp.

Another thing is that Banded mail is the same thing as Banded tunic, most players refer to the tunic as mail or visa versa. So np on that.

Since this is a level 22+ quest, its best to level up in OT and keep the copper, silver, and gold. Rino horns sell for 1 plat. Sabertooth fangs for about 1pp and the Stonepeep and stone glint cockatrice drop usually if ur lucky, 11 silver to 2pp. The beak is worth 7gp. I once ended up with 80 plat on meafter leveling for 3 hours in OT. Since most things drop 5 gold all the time, ule be suprised to end up with 100 gold in no time. Copper is scarce though but silver thrives!

Buy the ruby ( which can be bought in cab east in the jewelry house left from the bank ) with this money and it will save you a bundle. trusta me!

THe biggest concern is the Sarnak war braids. I tried to get them but was frusterated. Look for a group of a high level De, Ogre or troll. You wil ALWAYS find them in OT mostly DE's. A good thing about this is that most ogres and trolls that are there are almost all shammy's. Grab someone and ask them to get you a Sarnak War braid. A donation from the money you got earlier from the ruby will b good, and hopefully will encourage your " client" to do a better job hehe.

Once you have everything, hand in the Chitin, War braids, ruby and banded mail/tunic. You will recieve the BP.

Since is it only Shamy equip, its best t make a profit back on the ruby u bought for all other races. or you can twink. The best place to sell it is in Greater faydark, the average pop on it goes up to 120 players in it. But auctions will blend with the others so use shout it help but not so exxesive. ALso you can raise faction with races that have only like shammy like trolls, ogres, iksars, and barbarians. Sell it there and you will get richa! the average pc on it if from 700 to 1k on pvp. THis is a whole quest in it all.

P.S. If you wish to sell in lightie infested areas, make a lightie, travel to a remote place, camp and twink the bp to the lightie so he/she can sell in other places.

I hope this helps everyone on confusion.

Gonna answer this as positively as possible...I am positive you have never done this quest, and I am positive you don't know half of what you are talking about.

First of all, this is Iksar Shadowknight only, not Shaman useable. This is the Shadowknight quest armor for Iksars because they cannot wear plate armor, thus cannot do the Dark Forge Armor quests.

Second of all, why would anyone try to sell in GFay? Only noobs there who can't afford the ruby, let alone the markup from doing the quest, and definitely not a good place to find an Iksar SK since it is the zone with the Wood Elves. East Commons has somehow become the universal trading zone, not GFay.

Third, the Auction Channel is made for Auctions, using shout just so your auction doesn't blend in with everyone else's only irritates people and shows that you are definitely a noob.

Fourth, IF you made 80pp in 1 hour in OT in the mudpits, you were either smoking crack or you were ninja-looting in a full group with split turned off...either way you just once again proved you have no idea what you are talking about. Yes, you can make decent money from Rhino horns and such, but not 80pp in an hour.

I hope I was able to help you realize how wrong you were about everything you said...try doing a quest in the future before you tell other people how it works...helps if you know what the hell you are talking about.

The only thing you DID get right is that the Scorpion Chitin drops from the Large Heartsting Scorpions, but it already said that here, so you just offered absolutely no helpful information whatsoever.

Mail is mostly reffered as chain mail, tunic is a chest piece. like bp is to chest piece. Just something verant did to add more roleplay to the game as in the middle ages, Mail was reffered as chainmail.

I just completed this quest 2 days ago. It was not hard at all with the exception of the scorpion chiton which I had to camp for 2 days before it popped for me. I am a level 17 and had no problem killing the large heartsting. The Sarnak war braid I got by going to the ledge in overthere and chatting for a loot on it. Withtin 15 mins a nice Paladin sent me a tel to come and loot it. I had a friend make me the banded tunic and the gem is store bought. The only time consuming part of this quest is your luck on the chiton pop. Thanks to my friends who gave me the directions on where I needed to go to get the ingredients to this quest.

Ok...I've read a number of these posts after trying this quest and losing my banded cloak and blowing 157 plat on a ruby. Didn't work for me. I double and triple checked my items against what Sartha Scarscale asked for before I turned them over to him, but it made no difference. I gave them to him in the order he asked for them, and I am POSITIVE that these items were the ones asked for. A Sarnak War Braid, LARGE Heartsting Scorpion Chitin, a very expensive ruby, and my banded cloak. And I got nothing! Tried petitioning a GM with no response. I see that other folks have successfuly completed this quest, so why does it work for some and not for others? What did I do wrong? What gives?

OK not that I want to complain but the BP quest is probably the easiest one to do considering that using HT I soloed one of these yellow con scorpions at level 17 and got the chitin, he was wandering around below Kurn's and wasn't all that hard, probably didn't need the HT if I had waited for full health and mana and/or had a pet up. Also, the sarnak war braids are pretty easy to come by just make your way to the dreadlands and ask nicely and/or offer plat to loot one war braid from one of the many groups hunting this zone. Now if only I could get that zorash guy to drop boots...

Oh yea, the mob is a LARGE heartstring scorpion and the best place to find them is on the opposite side of Kurn's tower from 'the pit' just pull random mobs to the back wall of kurns until you can get one of these scorpions, also pulling wanderers in this area wasn't bad experience starting around level 15 or 16.
RE: minimum level 22?
# Apr 14 2002 at 6:46 PM Rating: Default
It is a minimum of 22 for best class shaow knight. im a warrior and a t level 22 tried to kill no solo the sarnak that drops the braid. it was really hard, the sk had a better chance of it bcause of the new spells they attain and the advantage to weild most weapons.

Verants quest were meant to solo so it WAS required to do this a while ago when the braids were no drop but it wasd nerfed due to some reason of course we not kno.

And keep in mind, this is an info site, its not really a minimum level,a level 15 can take it on, its just the hp rings and wurmys he has lol.

This quest took me about 6 hours to do (including learning how to smith banded). I would suggest getting the War Braid from Overthere since berserkers seem more populous there. All told, I spent about 300pp for some really great armor and some good war stories.

note on smithing
water is sold by Lybar in west cab (that pit by the necro guild). Bring a couple of empty packs with you so you dont have to keep zoning for water.

Scaler and Skewer Molds are sold in second building to left of bank.

heres how I did it for 100pp in about 4 hours

metal bits- 2 small ore 1 water (make a full 8slot pack full of stacks)
scaler- 1 metal bit, 1 mold, 1 water (till 40)
skewer- 1 metal bit, 1 mold, 1 water (till 60)

Banded Tunic 3 sheetmetal, 1 mail mold, 1 water, 1 being lucky
I made 2 tunics out of 5 tries at 60 skill (30pp in materials for 5 attempts)

Happy Hunting

I'm beginning to feel awful! I got the chitin after my second Lg heartsing kill. I'm a 14 lvl SK fighting with a 16 lvl necro + pet(red me, yellow him). Didn't even realize what it was till I looked at my notes. Now I just need that elusive cash...

Also got carrion queen in the pit and her leggings. Nice surprise that.

Anyone wanna rub my belly for luck??

Question: Can you get a Sarnak Beserker in LiO?

This quest is broken. i dont know how else to put it. first off for all the (confussed people) a scorpion chitin is found on a heartstring scorpion in the pit near Kurns tower, or behind Kurns tower. i have seen about 50 chitins so far and i am only level 20 (they drop almost every single time i kill a heartsrting)Now here comes the broken part.. after i hired an ogre to kill a sarnak berserker for me and let me loot a war braid, paid 167 pp for a ruby at the merchants hut (by bank),went to the Feild of Bone to find a chitin from a (heartstring scorpion), and gave my banded tunic to sarth scarscale. i received no dreadscale... he robbed me after i got all the peices for him that he needed to make the dreadscale breastplate. Needless to say i was pissed. I tried to petition for a GM but after 2 hours of waiting for a gm who would never come i told a fellow 56 lvl friend about it and he went after all the peices and completed the quest for me in about 30 minutes.i did everything right in this quest. my chitin was intacked(meaning the poison charge was not used up)my ruby was shinny and sparkly, my banded mail was medium sized fit for an iksar, and my no drop sarnak war braid was all put into Mr rip off artist's Sarth scarscales inventory. he gave me nothing for my effort. no dreadscale armor for me...so far i have tried about 2 quests. the other quest was a nightmare also. the test of a pawn with the sarnak heads... (i got screwed on that one too when i did not recieve a new khukri from my full bag of combined sarnack heads.)well guys i think i have a solution to the whole mess.. i will try and do one more quest for everquest. and if i get ripped off again.... (after hours and hours of risking my neck looking for quest items,) I will instead BUY my dreadscale peices from other players. I saw about 10 peices of dreadscale on auction in one night. all in the neighborhood of 250pp..I now own 3 peices of dreadscale. and i have yet to complete a single Dreadscale armor quest. One more try....I WILL HAVE MY FULL SET OF DREADSCALE DAMN YOU!!!

You need a chitin from a LARGE heartsting scorpion. These seemed to have dropped for me around once every 10 kills (saw 2 chitin after nearly 20 kills). Maybe I'm unlucky and its more like 1 out of 5.

I don't believe the chitin has any poison associated with it as you mentioned: a scorpion telson may have poison, but the chitin appears to look like a big black barrel (the telson looks sorta like a yellow tongue ...). And I believe the telson does drop off of heartsting scorps fairly frequently.

I haven't had any problems with DS armor yet ... just make sure you are getting exactly what the quest-givers are asking for.
RE: broken quest
# Jun 13 2001 at 3:31 AM Rating: Decent
The Chitin does drop off large heartstings I have only gotten 3 and I have killed nearly 40 of the things I may not have done this quest yet but I do find out exactly what is needed before I do a quest and not assume much of anything maybe you should do the same and then you would think the quests are not crap. I have completed many quests with my iksar necromancer(level 18 now) and I love doing them but only if I do them correctly also you may want to ask the friend that did the quest for you and find out if he used the chitin or the telson and stop ranting at things that you yourself messed up

Gah! I've spent 4 evenings here(over 30 hours), killing everything that moves as a L31 SK. I have killed well over 50 Large Heartsting Scorpians with nothing but a few coins dropping everytime. :(

I definatly will not be buying any lottery tickets with my luck. :(

Oh well, lets hope my luck improves tonight.

I started on the quest at 23, it's simple really, All I had to do was go past kurns tower (opposite side of zone where all the hard stuff spawn) and con the giant scorpions. all of them were green practically, except for a few high level blue ones, that wouldn't spawn as much, then I relized after a few kills of these kinds, I got the chiton off these guys, then I sold a couple of things and looted alot to get the ruby (store next to the bank), as for the Sarnak braid, that was easy, all i had to do was look for a Sarnak in OT that had a whip for a weapon, and had a hill group (and theres lots of them) pull one and kill it for me, no money involved, after all, what does it mean to them. Then I got my banded tunic as it's called actuallly, and then turned the items in order top to bottom from what sarth told me, The chiton, the braid, the ruby, and tunic (like it really matters) and boom I have a darkened cabilis scaled looking armor that impresses people I meet along with my other sets of Dreadscale I have. besides i like the stats on it for iksar, but will be proud to earn the even better sk armors that all sk's can wear

Chitin
# May 13 2001 at 9:49 PM Rating: Default
O.k the chitin does drop off the large heartsing, and yes it is rare, just because 2 or 3 fools get in there first camp doesn't mean it isn't rare, it took me 2 days and i didn't even find it, a brother sk tell'd me when he found one(he already had his armor), the warbraid is a piece of cake, you just have to have a higher lv with you, it is common drop. As for the rubies, well how rich r u?
I also recieved carion legs off of a carion queen, right in the pit, some ppl to this day argue if she actually exists, weel i gots leggins for proof :P

Dreadscale is so expensive, it should tank by itself.
# Apr 13 2001 at 10:36 AM Rating: Decent
Gonna post here about all Dreadscale armor, since this is the center piece.

This stuff is expensive to get. Not having been getting money, and splitting in groups, my lvl 20 Iksar SK has about 120 plat. With my Charisma, the ruby is about 157 plat. All the armor requires items that are not easy to get (understandable), and banded mail (also understandable). But Having played 20 levels, spending money on minor expededentures (food, weapons, armor, donations), buying rubies is just plain expensive. There are not many items around for me to get to raise my charisma signifigantly (dolls only give +3), and so we either have to see if someone can give us a ruby, or maybe buy it cheaper. Either way, by the time I am able to get the last piece of armor, I'll be a high enough lvl that I will probably need something better.
RE: Dreadscale is so expensive, it should tank by itself.
# Apr 14 2001 at 5:59 PM Rating: Default
You have to realize that the rate money comes in starts to increase and the rate that you level will decrease. You won't be level 40 with 240pp made. Assuming you start hunting indoors, money really starts to come in around the high 20's. You might have cash problems if you hunt in LoIO and OT exclusively, but then again, you'll have no grouping skills either. Making the money for dreadscale will be quite easy if you spread out the questing over all of your 20's and low 30's (the way it's intended), and unless you're twinked, it reamains good armor into your 40's. Once you reach the level that its feasible to replace your dreadscale, the price of a ruby with be nothing to you. The cost of the gems really is insignificant when you consider the mileage you get out of the stuff.

Point is, perspectives on whats expensive and what isn't changes as you level.

savants cap, 3 int, head slot, 30pp
runed circlet, 4 int, head slot, 300pp
nightshade wreath, 5 int, head slot, 1000pp

Equipment upgrade prices are not linear.
