The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This solo task begins with Fisherman Trokk (click for map image) on Thuliasaur Island.

    Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
    - Minimum Level 95
    - Minimum dubious faction with The Kromtus

For this task, you'll need Fish Wine (perhaps any alcoholic beverage), Fishing Bait, and a Fishing Pole. Fisherman Trokk sells all of these items.

Say "lend a hand" to request the task.

    You say, 'Hail, Fisherman Trokk'

Fisherman Trokk says 'Greetings, small one. Come to [lend a hand] in our efforts to feed the village? If you are willing to work then I just might be willing to share the secrets of being a master fisherman.'

You say, 'I'll lend a hand...'

Fisherman Trokk says 'First you will need to reduce competition. Then I will elaborate on our special Kromtus fishing technique.'

You have been assigned the task 'The Fisherman's Secret'.

Fisherman Trokk has offered to exchange the secret to his success for your assistance in angling in some food for the tribe.

First, hunt down a vicious barracuda as they often compete with the fishermen for their catch. Take out a pair of impalers to ease up the competition in the waters. Down a caribe so you don't end up catching one later.

Hunt down a barracuda 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

    Kill a barracuda mob.

Take out two impalers 0/2 (Thuliasaur Island)

    Kill two "impaler" mobs.

Kill a caribe 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

    Kill "a caribe".

Try your luck at fishing in the Kromtus cove 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

The Kromtus Fishing Cove is right next to the Fisherman. Equip the Fishing Pole (primary), have bait in your inventory, and use your Fishing skill. This will take multiple attempts before an update.

Fisherman Trokk cackles wildly, 'Well now, that'll never do. Here's some friendly advice though, little one. That rage you're feeling subsides quickly in the company of spirits. Have a drink and try again.'

Try some lightly inebriated fishing at fishing in the Kromtus cove 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Load yourself up on alcohol (Fish Wine is sold by the Fisherman) until you are somewhat intoxicated, and then fish again.

Fisherman Trokk looks over, 'Looks like you're getting it! Have a few shots then give it another shot!'

Try some heavily inebriated fishing at fishing in the Kromtus cove 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Load yourself up on lots of alcohol, until you are notably intoxicated, and then fish again. Here, you'll have "a hungry tortoise" spawn and attack.

You hear an angry snapping sound coming up from the deep. It seems another creature has its sights set on your fish!

"a hungry tortoise" is a bit lower in difficulty compared to the zone's general population (but still quite a threat, especially while intoxicated). It's also mezzable, stunnable, and rootable/snareable, and does not summon. The task updates upon its death.

Speak to Fisherman Trokk 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

    You say, 'Hail, Fisherman Trokk'

Fisherman Trokk barely holds back his laughter as he wipes a tear from his eye, 'Ah, ha ha! Small one, I haven't laughed like that in ages! Here, you may not have the tolerance to be an angler, but you earned this at least!'

It would seem that Fisherman Trokk's "secret" was anything but. Everybody knows that inebriation is the most important aspect to successful fishing.

With alcohol tolerance (591) I needed to drink 134 bottles of Fish Wine to reach the "heavily inebriated" stage...

And strangely 2 came out of the water but only one in the group got credit...

This is a bad mission. It promotes irresponsible attitudes and consumption of alcoholic beverages and has NO place in a game played by young and old alike. It's a terrible thing to put into a family friendly game. As a Professional Bartender for over 30 years this mission disturbs me greatly. Responsible consumption of alcohol is one thing, Abuse is an entirely different matter and is NOT a joking matter or to be lightly tossed aside. Alcohol Abuse has no proper place in this game.

I disagree. This is actually an excellent object lesson for young people, teaching them about the perils of drink. Kudos to Sony as society as a whole does not provide nearly enough descriptions of drunken individuals getting killed in car crashes (while also killing other innocent people), falling off bridges and similar examples of the downsides to alcohol. Movies and TV always focus on the pleasures and fun of being loaded.

In terms of gameplay, since the mob is a bit lower than average zone difficulty, the "trick" is to group with sober players and let them do the fighting while the drunk player shares the credit. Then switch roles.

It's a game, folks, not an AA class.

Also, I've done this 8x now and you never need to use "loads" of alcohol. A stack of 20 fish wine was MORE than enough except for one toon that was max alc tolerance. He ended up drinking a stack-and-a-half. While I don't care enough to investigate the mechanics of this further, I did determine that the 3 levels of fishing/drinking are incremented by a combination of drinking at least a few more alcohols and then succeeding in catching 2-3 items with your fishing pole.

Have to agree, really bad example and also crappy gameplay.
Yeah lets make a character next to useless by getting them drunk and THEN jump them with a mob they have to defeat. sure this is just another of those solo tasks that requires a group to complete.
Talk about a pointless timesink, after consuming a large amount of alchol player will be about useless to group until they sober up if a caster.
