The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This solo task is the third in a series of three and begins with Ellen Kwiklen (click for map image) in the Caverns of Endless Song. She is located in the small area above water just south of the underwater zone-in tunnel.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Completion of "Natural Instincts"
- Completion of "Fishy Fingers"

Say "dirk" to request the task.

At the end of the previous task, you saw:

Ellen Kwiklen takes the gloves from you and mumbles a spell as she puts them on her hands. They magically resize so as to perfectly fit. 'I'll need a few moments to milk the coral for the venom and mix it with the suspension before its ready.' Ellen goes about her work for a few moments as you look on silently. It isn't long before she reappears with a glistening [dirk] in her hands.

You say, 'What's that dirk?'

Ellen Kwiklen gingerly passes the dirk to you, 'The inferno venom has been distilled, and I've envenomed this dirk with it. You'll need to get in close to use it and it should work quickly. You'll have to keep them busy while it's taking effect. Mind you, I can't guarantee how they'll react once they're free. Most of the poor souls that wound up in here were of dubious moral character to begin with, so they might still attack you of their own volition. Oh and of course as with any poison there's the chance of an adverse reaction, but I don't think that's very likely.

You receive "Inferno Venom Dirk".

You have been assigned the task 'Endless Silence'.

Ellen Kwiklen has made you a potent Inferno Venom Dirk which will supposedly cause temporary deafness in humanoids. She wants you to do some field tests with it in the Caverns of Endless Song.

Test the inferno venom dirk on seduced humans 0/5 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Test the inferno venom dirk on seduced dark elves 0/5 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Test the inferno venom dirk on seduced ogres 0/5 (Caverns of Endless Song)

With any "a seduced _____" mob, right-click the Inferno Venom Dirk on them (can click at any time - health point doesn't appear to matter). You'll see an emote, and then shortly after, another emote. Once you've seen the second emote, they either go non-aggro and update (humans), or you need to kill them for the update (dark elves and ogres).

Note: Reportedly, you have to have done damage to the mob to get credit.

- Human click:
--- a seduced druid grimaces in pain as you stab him with the inferno venom dirk. The poison should take effect soon.

- Human second emote:
--- a seduced druid blinks away the enchantment that once held him. 'Ugh, what a nightmare! You can't imagine the things they made us do for them! I owe you one. I swear I'll never pirate again! I'm getting out of her before that accursed song starts up again. Good luck!'

- Dark Elf click:
--- a seduced corsair howls in anger as you stab him with the inferno venom dirk. The poison should take effect soon.

- Dark Elf second emote:
--- a seduced corsair says 'Ah finally that cursed thing's voice is out of my head. Now then, I'll be needing whatever valuables you're carrying before I leave. I can't have come all this way and leave empty handed.'

- Ogre click:
--- a seduced pirate roars in defiance as you stab him with the inferno venom dirk. The poison should take effect soon.

- Ogre second emote:
--- a seduced pirate roars with fury as the poison begins to take hold. Apparently all you managed to do was anger him.

Speak with Ellen Kwiklen 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

You say, 'Hail, Ellen Kwiklen'

Ellen Kwiklen greets you eagerly as you approach, 'Well, how did it go? Did the venom break the spell of the sirens'? Hmm, well working on almost half of them doesn't seem so bad. Not exactly the silver sword we were hoping for though. Now that you've softened up the sirens' defenses let's take a more direct approach. We need to drive the sirens themselves from the caverns, dead or alive. And let's face it _____, it'll almost certainly be dead. I won't hazard to guess what the venom might do to them, but I'm certain it won't be pleasant. Give them the old stabby stab and see what happens.

Test the inferno venom dirk on sirens 0/5 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Repeat as above, clicking a siren, waiting for a second emote, and then killing her.

a silenced temptress hisses in anger as you stab her with the inferno venom dirk.

a silenced temptress begins coughing violently as the venom begins to take effect. "..cough, cough...what have you done to me...*gasp* my voice, its returned! Her curse is broken! Now you belong to me fool!"

Return the inferno venom dirk to Ellen Kwiklen 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Ellen Kwiklen says 'You've returned once more. How was your encounter with the sirens? What?! The venom gave them BACK their voices? You mean they were mute before you stabbed them? Then what's keeping all these minions here? Surely you can hear the song of the siren echoing off these walls clear as I can, but where could it be coming from? There may be more at work here than simple enchantments _____. That leaves us with a question for another day. For now you have my thanks, as well as the thanks of those that you were able to free.'

Lame and seemingly buggy quest.

Really hated this poorly designed quest...the click dagger mechanism on mobs is very poorly thought out Human mobs tend to path away even when snared and just poof on you.

Also the longer I'm in this zone the more I hate this zone. Will never return once I get the progression quests complete.
A little more help to make it go smoothly..

So, I just ran through this last night with three 111s (going back to get progression I missed), DRU SK MAG. At first, I couldn't get any credit for kills, but figured it out.

It takes a WHILE for the second emote to appear. At least 10 seconds, maybe even 12-13. With three toons and mercs, that's way more time than it takes to just kill the mobs. Note, at 111, I wasn't even that much over-leveled for the zone (TDS was 101-105). So, I wound up making the two DPS mercs passive, and after pulling, did no DPS with the toons until I saw the second emote. That wound up working fine, except for the human mobs, which flee/de-aggro after the second emote. Each toon has to do damage, so nobody would get credit. So, for the humans, I would wait to start DPSing, and got good at timing it before the second emote, but late enough to not kill it before getting that second emote.

Hope this helps!

As mentioned below, only one person needs to click the dirk on the mobs. However, all grp members need to do damage to get credit. So if you're using a cleric, you can just cast an intervention heal spell on the tank to do damage or something. The human druids I was killing also were problematic at high levels since if they died too fast before they went non-aggro you wouldn't get credit either.

Everyone in group gets credit (if you have the task, of course) .. if you use the dagger on a mob and try with someone else you get "does not take hold" etc

If you click the dagger on a mob, you have to do damage to it or you wont get credit. We were clicking on the humans, then just standing there waiting for it to run away, and weren't getting credit.
