The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

- Completion of "Burden of the Past" (Degmar, the Lost Castle)

Say "bring" to request the task.

You say, 'Hail, Lyirae Oakwynd'

Lyirae Oakwynd raises her bow and aims an arrow at your face. 'Who are you? Whom do you [serve]?'

You say, 'I serve you, of course...'

Lyirae Oakwynd lowers her bow. Her hair blows in the warm jungle breeze as she looks at the swaying canopy and listens to your news of her companions. 'I thought it would be this [way].'

You say, 'What way?'

Lyirae Oakwynd keeps looking off into the trees, avoiding your gaze. 'Our final journey. We're not young. The years pile up like leaves on the jungle floor. Already I have seen my brother, sister, and father sink into the loam. I thought [Firiona] had joined them.'

You say, 'Firiona?'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'We laid her stone in a Felwithe grove. I said farewell to Firiona, to my companions. I wandered alone in the [forests] of Faydark, knowing I had seen my friends for the last time. I was wrong, and now I am [here].'

You say, 'What about the forests?'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'The trees were born long ago, long enough that to me they have always been. They were there when my family died. They will still be there when I am gone. I watch them shake their hair in the autumn breezes, let it fall in the winter, and grow it anew in the spring. I watch their children, the creatures of the forest, play about their trunks and rear children of their own. I did not want to [return].'

You say, 'Why didn't you want to return?'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'To this life, to this inevitable path marked with stones. But I made a promise to Firiona, a promise for the sake of my brother and sister. And so I am [here]. I know it shall not last, and that only the trees shall remain. And if what you say is true, we'll soon lie beneath the leaves.'

You say, 'Where is 'here'?'

Lyirae Oakwynd breathes in the warm air. 'The smell of ancient wood and creatures untouched by time. If not for Firiona and my promise, I could remain here and forget there was anything beyond the island's shores. But from what I have seen and what you have told me, [someone] has remembered this place.

You say, 'Someone?'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'At the word of the Brothers about a ghostly ship that sailed to a strange jungle, Firiona sent Galeth and me to explore. We thought only spirits lingered in a land abandoned. But there was [life].'

You say, 'Life?'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'Giants, lizardmen, aviaks, and animals great in size. They made their homes beneath these trees. The Brothers had nothing to fear from them, and we thought our scouting at an end. But then we came upon the [camp].'

You say, 'What camp?'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'Several races in heavy armor, some in robes, gathered around fires on the beach. We waited for them to filter into the forest before approaching a lone watchman. I called out to him with words of friendship in the common tongue. He grew [angry].'

You say, 'Angry?'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'My arrow calmed him. I would say more, but right now [arrows] are more important than words.'

You say, 'Your arrows?'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'We had to leave our camp hastily after being attacked. I left my quiver there and cannot easily return while we stalk those who would do harm to the island. Will you [bring] me my arrows?'

You say, 'I'll bring them to you...'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'I can see why Firiona trusts you.'

You have been assigned the task 'An Endless Cycle'.

Lyirae and Galeth have been exploring the island, but recently they came across Combine invaders that have been harassing them. The invaders are also harassing the local creatures, and Lyirae wants you to help stop this.

Pick up the arrows Lyirae left at her campfire, just north of the beach, in the jungle 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Pick up "Lyirae's Arrows" at the campfire located a little ways north of the ruined observatory tower. This spawns 2x "a Combine scout" (do not see-invis, NOT auto-aggro).

a Combine scout says 'Are we bringing them to Una?'

a Combine scout says 'No, we weren't sent for such creatures! They attacked our camp; kill them!'

Defeat the ambushers who found you at Lyirae's campfire 0/2 (Thuliasaur Island)

They should be easily split from one another. Each hits for a max ~17,000 and is mezzable.

Give the arrows to Lyirae 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

Hand all in at once.

Speak with Lyirae 0/5 (Thuliasaur Island)

Hail her until the task updates.

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'You escaped with your life and the arrows; our camp is of no consequence. Now the soldiers are hunting us as well...'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'We have watched soldiers with nets and magic snare creatures in the jungle and drag them to the beach. At night the magical lights appear, flashing under the canopy and rising into the sky.'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'When I see them I think of the beam we saw days after arriving on the island. Like a comet of moonlight it streaked over the horizon, lighting the trees in its glow.'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'You say this beam pierced the sea and struck Katta Castrum. And the soldiers you fought in camp wore the armor of those who took Tsaph Katta? This force must wield much power, and we are in great danger...'

Lyirae Oakwynd listens a moment to the wind in the trees and the call of a distant bird. 'We must stay ahead of them, but Galeth slows. His new body has not fared as well in jungle climes and salted water as Ognit had hoped. Help him, if you can!'

Speak with Galeth 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

You say, 'Hail, Galeth Veredeth'

Galeth Veredeth's joints scrape as he turns towards you. There is no hint of recognition in his glass eyes. 'Did I once know you? Some things I have forgotten. This body of metal is so unlike the one of [flesh] I once inhabited. I cannot feel what I once felt; I cannot walk as I once walked. My [joints] are locking.

You say, 'What about your flesh?'

Galeth Veredeth's crank softly whirs, and his springs creak. You cannot tell what emotions he might be feeling under his expressionless face. 'Before I was flesh, I was spirit. When I claimed the body of the dead elf, I never knew I would bring so many things into the world through my flesh: betrayal, death, life, and the [reason] we are here.'

You say, 'What reason?'

Galeth Veredeth says 'My daughter, Firiona. So many nights I cursed my weak-willed flesh for betraying my friend and fathering Firiona by his wife. So many nights I saw my lover locked in the tower for her unfaithfulness, alone, dying in blood as she gave birth to my sin. But in [time] evil gives birth to good.'

You say, 'Time?'

Galeth Veredeth cocks his head, as though listening to the flow of the river's channels. 'Good and evil -- one ramifies from the other and drifts onward in time. From my folly came the Champion of Balance. She carried the light downstream, through the rocks and dim river valleys. And then she was [gone], her light extinguished in the darkened waters.

You say, 'Gone?'

Galeth Veredeth says 'I was the last to leave her stone in Felwithe, standing by the empty marker when all her companions had since dispersed into the world. The seed of my flesh was gone. All that remained was the home of my spirit, a man long dead whose legacy had come to an [end].'

You say, 'What end?'

Galeth Veredeth says 'I returned to the wellspring, to the Plane of Growth. I laid my body to rest alongside the cares, agonies, and joys of the mortal, and passed into the arms of Tunare. I kept [memories], fading as they were, but left behind desire -- the bane of flesh that grants both misery and ecstasy.'

You say, 'What memories?'

Galeth Veredeth says 'I thought it was but a ghost of faded memory when Firiona once again walked the groves of Growth. Had time made her face look so unfamiliar to me? But when Tunare sent us on the path to the Buried Sea, I knew I was returning to that which I had [forgotten].'

You say, 'Forgotten?'

Galeth Veredeth says 'The strife of the mortal. I would not again become corporeal and subject my daughter to the vagaries of the flesh. I traveled as spirit until Ognit provided an [alternative].'

You say, 'What alternative?'

Galeth Veredeth's eyes shine, and steam spouts from the side of his head. 'He constructed this body. It knows no pain, joy, or desire. My spirit within is free. I may watch over Firiona and her companions without the consequences of flesh. I may fulfill the will of Tunare. I will walk with my daughter to the ends of Norrath, while my [joints] yet last.

You say, 'What about your joints?'

Galeth Veredeth says 'While I may be free of the desires that come with flesh, I am now susceptible to the sea breezes and wet jungle air. Step after step is harder and harder, and Lyirae outpaces me. If you could forage for plant oils around the river banks, I might be able to loosen my joints.'

Pull oily steamweed plants from the soil near the streams 0/5 (Thuliasaur Island)

Defend yourself against glistenwings angered by your pulling steamweed plants 0/5 (Thuliasaur Island)

Along the banks of the river that runs north-to-south are Steamweed ground spawns. Each time you pick one up, "an angered glistenwing" spawns and attacks (average difficulty for the zone).

Gathering the streamweed has angered a nearby glistenwing.
an angered glistenwing bares its teeth as it readies its first attack.

an angered glistenwing shudders as it crumples on the ground.
an angered glistenwing has been slain by _____!

Save the lizardman being attacked by the Combine near the lizardman settlement 0/3 (Thuliasaur Island)

"a hunted lizardman" is found to the east of the opening that leads to the Thaell Ew area. Around it are three Combine mobs. Kill the three mobs, and then hail the lizardman. All three Combine mobs must be dead when you do the hail.

They have a 60-second respawn timer, so you'll either need to balance them down in health and kill together, or DPS one at a time to low health, mez, and then quickly finish off all three (be mindful of mez spells' memblur effects which, if taken effect, will cause their non-aggro regeneration rate to kick in).

Speak with the lizardman 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

You say, 'Hail, a hunted lizardman'

a hunted lizardman says 'Thank you. The plated savages try to capture us when we forage. You seem strong enough; kill them all!'

Give the oily plants to Galeth 0/5 (Thuliasaur Island)

Galeth Veredeth spreads the plant oils on his joints. The scraping sounds dull into mild squeaks. 'Thank you. My transit through the world shall now be less of a burden for Lyirae.'

Speak with Lyirae 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

You say, 'Hail, Lyirae Oakwynd'

Lyirae Oakwynd says 'The soldiers now attack the intelligent creatures of the island... The settlements are in danger.' Lyirae draws another arrow from her quiver. 'Though all must come to an end, I will defend those in danger while I still draw breath.''

Save the aviak being hunted by the Combine near the aviak settlement 0/4 (Thuliasaur Island)

"a hunted aviak" is located outside the entrance area to the Bloodfeather Aviak area. Unlike the lizardman update, you only need four kill credits here (no hail involved, so they don't all have to be dead at the same time).

a hunted aviak says 'They come from the sky! They are not of this land. Where do they take my people?'

Save the Kromtus from being hunted by the Combine near the Kromtus settlement 0/6 (Thuliasaur Island)

Same as above, only with "a hunted Kromtus" a little ways east of the eastern stretch of river. Kill six Combine mobs surrounding it.

Speak with Lyirae 0/1 (Thuliasaur Island)

You say, 'Hail, Lyirae Oakwynd'

Lyirae Oakwynd sighs. 'It is clear: the forces of Lanys and Una continue the work they began in Katta Castrum. Strife comes even to this place, a land untouched and forgotten. We cannot join Firiona while our enemy moves freely. We should plan our next move with Galeth.' Lyirae looks with concern upon her companion. 'I only hope his body will stay as sturdy as his spirit.'

So where does Galeth respawn? He is not near Lyirae Oakwynd after hailing the Lizardman.
Been looking for him 3 days now, guess I'll keep looking

Give the oily plants to Galeth 0/5 (Thuliasaur Island)
Galeth Veredeth spreads the plant oils on his joints. The scraping sounds dull into mild squeaks. 'Thank you. My transit through the world shall now be less of a burden for Lyirae.'

Today when doing it, one of the two ambushers went poof while we were fighting the other (and no, it wasn't a long fight Smiley: wink). But we could still klick the arrow at the campfire, and that spawned another set of two.

Molo'd with a 105 mage max aa today. Hardest part was the lizard part. But not that hard, pulled 2 at first and put pet on one and swarm pets on other. balanced my dps so they both died at the same time and then agro'd the 3rd and pop'd burns. Had plenty of time to do the hail.

I can get to island, so obviously I have completed the progression. But the quest giver will not give me task. Says something about "I don't have anything for someone with your skills". Anyone have any ideas if I am missing something?

Did that quest at about 102 boxed and i must say it was easier than with lvl 105. Chanter mezz with 12kAA is horrible. They always regain health through the antiaggro feature. Thanks for sippin and the idea. I really got mad about that quest because at 105 I always messed up. Only needed the Hail to the Lizard... killing is a breeze but respawning a pain in the a...

Nothing particularly challenging here except the 3 Combine mobs attacking the lizardman have to be dead at the same time before you can hail the lizardman. They respawn in about 1 minute so this can be tough. I found the mobs were regenerating rapidly under enchanter mez so that didn't work. Ended up splitting my group of 6 into 3 groups of 2 and summoning a warrior and cleric merc for each group. This allowed me to attack the 3 Combine mobs at the same time and slowly reduce them down in HPs until they could all be killed almost at the same moment. This gave me most of a minute to do the 6 hails. Somewhat challenging task for a boxer.

XP in this zone, at least for quest mobs that have to be killed, is abysmal. It's so bad I almost think it's broken. Literally I saw NO movement in regular XP bar after killing the 20 or so mobs needed to slaughter to get this mission finished. This must be intentional to prevent people grinding on these mobs with their wicked fast respawn time. At least I sure hope "ordinary" grind-type mobs give better XP than this!

We only had a group of 4 so we did have a chanter, mezzed them all, took our time beating one at a time to 8-20 percent (don't forget no dots!) than whooped them all in seconds at the end.

Combine mobs around a hunted lizardman respawn around 90seconds.Balance killing them works well. Pulled each single and took down to 10%, then bard mez till we had all 3 at 10%, then just burned them dead.
