The Darkened Sea Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This solo task begins with Brother Dilgen (click for map image) in the cave just north of the zone-in.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Completion of "A Rising Storm" (Tempest Temple)
- Completion of "Gathering Clouds" (Tempest Temple)
- Completion of "Clearer Skies" (Tempest Temple)
- Completion of "The Edge of Balance" (Katta Castrum: Deluge)
- Completion of "The Abscent Scholar" (Katta Castrum: Deluge)
- Completion of "Just Recompense" (Brother Island)
- Completion of "The Cover of Night" (Brother Island)

Say "find" to request the task.

You say, 'Hail, Brother Dilgen'

Brother Dilgen yells at you, his voice sounding muffled beneath his large helmet. 'What?! Sorry, I can't hear you that well. My chastity helmet is one of the more padded ones Quigley has made. I keep the Brothers well [stocked], so Quigley thought I would be useful on this [rescue] mission.

You say, 'Stocked?'

Brother Dilgen says 'Chastity helmets, light daggers for close combat, harpoons and rope -- everything you would need for fighting sirens! I've been with the Brothers for two years now, and I've proven I can craft and fight. I can handle myself. You'll never find ME in a compromising embrace!'

You say, 'Rescue mission?'

Brother Dilgen says 'I slept in my chastity helmet the night of the attack, just like Brother Saldar is always saying we should do. I'm glad I did! Who else would be left to save our brothers? Quigley sent me down here, saying I should find Brother Horace the Resolved. But the first person I saw was that barbarian woman, [Dagda].'

You say, 'Dagda?'

Brother Dilgen says 'She asked if I had seen a gnome dressed in a robe, with graying hair. Then she dove into the water and swam through the northern tunnel. You should probably [find] her before she gets herself killed.'

You say, 'I'll find her'

Brother Dilgen says 'Good luck! Keep your ears closed and eyes downcast!'

You have been assigned the task 'Loyal is the Heart'.

Dagda hastened Dabner. Find her and see if she could use your assistance in rescuing her friend.

Find and speak with Dagda 0/9 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Dagda is found in the caverns east of the zone-in area (in between the spineback and crocolisk clearings).

Dagda Icefury smiles ruefully. 'So you followed me, _____. Not the smartest thing you've done... though maybe waiting until rested and fed was smarter than the course I took...' Dagda shifts her body. A gash in her leg separates and pours out thick blood. She grabs the wound, grunts, and applies pressure.

Dagda Icefury says 'Like I said, the first thing to go isn't your skill, it's your speed. There was a time when four sirens at once wouldn't have stood a chance.'

Dagda Icefury is silent for a moment, looking at the cave floor. Seawater drips from her hair. 'I keep seeing his head disappear beneath the waves. Foolish as it might be, I thought he would always cling to me no matter what songs might tempt him. You think you know a man after so many years...'

Dagda Icefury says 'Blood seeps around Dagda's fingers. 'In darkness I descended, ears and lungs bursting. The first air I tasted was in this dank lair. I could not see Dabner in the pitch black. I wandered unsleeping, searching.'

Dagda Icefury says 'I found the lair: sirens awaiting my blade. One fell, then two, and then two more. When you're surrounded, you move fast, you kill fast. But I wasn't fast enough. A temptress's claws are sharp, sharper than steel... and they cut deeper.'

Dagda Icefury says 'I stumbled. One grabbed my sword. Another ripped away my shield and tossed it in the water.' Dagda bows her head. 'If I didn't owe my friend my life, I would have thrown it away rather than retreat.'

Dagda Icefury laughs. 'So this is my return to battle and adventure: wounded in a dingy cavern after my first real fight. Now isn't the time to sit and moan, not when your friends are in danger.

Dagda Icefury says 'Just my sword and shield... skin will mend, but I need steel to fight. You're here now, so I know you care at least that much, whatever your intentions. Look for them in the lair of the sirens, near the towering coral.'

Dagda Icefury grimaces. 'And sea turtle fat... for the pain.'

Defeat the siren that stole Dagda's sword in the coral formation 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Find Dagda's shield beneath the coral formation 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Find sea turtle fat to dull Dagda's pain 0/5 (Caverns of Endless Song)

For the sword: Head into the siren caverns east of Dagda's location where you'll find a giant purple coral inside which is "a sword thief" which is leashed to the room in which it's found. Its damage output is standard for the zone, but it has a lot of hitpoints. DPS it to 10% for the sword update:

a sword thief runs her finger down Dagda's sword. 'This is such a lovely blade, a regal gift for Queen Silisia! Your filthy presence in her cavern has made her so cross! But maybe this will soothe her. Though I can't sing, I can be useful in many ways!'

For the shield: On the cavern floor far below this giant coral at about is a clickable shield that sticks out of the ground (location is random, but will be somewhere on the floor in the large underwater cavern beneath the coral). When you click this, a mob spawns (doesn't see invis). It summons from 100% health; is stunnable but immune to mez; and is leashed to the cavern in which it's found. Kill it and loot it for the shield update:

As you reach for Dagda's shield, a gigantic tentacle wraps around it.

a giant octopus has been slain by _____!

"Sea Turtle Fat" is a common (maybe 100%) drop from "a sea turtle" mobs in this same area. They don't appear to be social with other sealife and are of regular difficulty for the zone (mezzable but immune to stuns).

Tell Dagda what happened to her sword 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

You say, 'Hail, Dagda Icefury'

Dagda Icefury curses at the name of Silisia. 'A siren queen? Either Dabner rests at the bottom of these watery tunnels or she has him. She takes my friend and now my weapon... I swear I'll bring her a fitting gift!

Give Dagda her shield 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Dagda Icefury receives the cracked shield and looks upon it with sadness. 'It was a gift from Ognit and Dabner, forged after Firiona was lost to us.' Upon the steel a maiden stands, sword upraised. On either side of her, two small figures, hands outstretched, emit strands of magic that enwreathe the maiden and her blade. Cracks now rive the shield, separating the figures.

Give Dagda the sea turtle fat 0/5 (Caverns of Endless Song)

Dagda Icefury rubs the viscous fat over the gash in her leg and binds it with cloth. 'I can stand. I still feel the pain, but that is good. Pain never lets you forget, never lets you rest.'

Speak with Dagda 0/1 (Caverns of Endless Song)

You say, 'Hail, Dagda Icefury'

Dagda Icefury says 'Quigley wants you to save his brothers? I don't care. They deserve nothing from me. Quigley speaks of debt. The only debt I owe is to my friends. Firiona will understand. Go back to Dilgen if you are so eager to fill the pockets of pirates. I'm going to save Dabner.'

Although I was only doing this for progression and not XP, just wanted to point out that I got absolutely NO XP for completing this quest. Had my toon (106 Mage) set to 100% AA and didn't even get one. Got 4 AA just by killing mobs in the quest, but none whatsoever at completion. I was boxing my 96 Chanter too and had him at 100% XP, and he didn't even get one percent.

Invis is good against everything on route except for the witches around the coral pool, so avoid them or take them out.
However, with invis up you should be able to go through the pool safely avoiding witches, head round to lower ledge behind the coral.
There will be a single wanderer here who will be a temptress or a witch, dispatch it.
Inside the coral chamber is the Sword Thief with another mob, usually a temptress. Pull out the temptress to ledge and kill. The Sword Thief will agro but will quickly forget about you. Once the temptress is gone, then fight Sword Thief in chamber.

Now invis up and head down the vertical shaft below the coral.
When fighting the octopus, the fish will attack you but will not agro a mage pet when it fights the octopus, so avoid fish...
I found that that the tunnel leading to the cavern on the East side is a good place to be for the fight. There's a single fish here and no wanderers. Kill the fish.
Now invis, swim out and click the shield in centre of cavern to spawn the octopus, swim back to tunnel and stay just inside to avoid wandering fish in main cavern.
Send in pet, if you're positioned right you should be able to assist pet and nuke the octopus.

Job's a goodun...

This method is for a solo mage, you may be able to adapt for other classes. Mobs are typically dark blue to yellow at 105.

Just wanted to point out that a named can also spawn in the chamber with the Sword Thief. The named was up and right next to him when I engaged, but couldn't see through invis (shocker). I took both on with no issues. Named dropped a stat mask and a tunic template. Can't remember the name on the mob though, sorry. It's a female Siren though.

A sword thief is not under water. There is a small room in the coral just above water level. The mob is leashed to this room.

Level requirement?

Is the level requirement for this really 105? I see other comments about toons less than 105 completing. I don't seem to be able to get it at 102. Why would they make this a min 105 level requirement, when it's a prerequisite for , for instance, A fateful arrival, which is listed as level 95? Eqresource lists this as min 95. Are there any other requirements that may be preventing me from getting this? I've done all the previous tasks up to The Cover of Night.

I know it's been a while, but did you do the mercenary task in Katta Castrum - The Pallus Satum? That one is necessary to complete the requirements to get into Caverns. Hope this helps someone.

I set the minimum level to 95. Not even EoK quests require 105.

You might trying going through the other progression quest write ups and figure out which one you haven't completed.

I don't like thiz zone.

There are two ledges around the coral reef, an upper and a lower. The "room" that the sword thief is in is level with the lower ledge and center of it's arc. If you're lucky, you can invis and run using levitation over the water.. to a safe spot near the sword thief's room (@ where the upper/lower ledge starts on the farther side), kill one roamer that patrols the lower ledge, then pull the other mob in the sword thief's room, then rush the room to kill the sword thief.

I tried AE mezzing the trash for the giant octopus. I tried it twice. That didn't work for me. Then I just found a fairly safe area, killed the closest fish/mob and then pulled whatever was @ where the octopus fight would be and any roamers that went to that area. Think it was just 5 or 6 mobs. Spawned the octopus and killed without any adds or problems. Then I killed all the sea turtles in the area, which was more than enough quest drops for 3 hand ins.

When I got to thief's room, Elera Shelwin was in there with the thief. Another group was doing the mission already and cleared the named and let me tag the thief for the update while they killed it. I returned the favor and cleared roamers while they did the shield part so they wouldn't get adds.

This zone is unbindable so TL to bind can't be used to move rapidly thru these caverns. A lot of the tunnels are underwater, reminiscent of Kedge Keep, and with all the same aggravations of moving and fighting in water.

The sword thief spawns in a room with another higher siren mob. If you go up the ramp behind the giant pink coral eventually you'll see the add. The sword thief is hidden in a corner of the small room. The sword thief sees thru invis. My group killed one wanderer on the ramp, pacified the thief (to be safe, since I read here he's leashed to the room) and then pulled the higher-level add out and killed it. Then we moved into the room to slay the thief. He dropped one quest item for each person in the group.

The shield was sticking out of the bottom way below this coral reef. It seemed to be in the same spot the 3x we had to pull it out. The purple octopus spawns right above it and does not SI. The advice here was great: I used a mage pet to tank and had my druid heal and nuke. A longish fight since the druid had to perform both healer and nuker duties but it was never in doubt. The fishes warp in and out all around you so any casting by non-druids is very likely to draw agro.

Octopus dropped one quest item for each group member in need. Remember that invis drops when you loot.

Sea turtles are all over but you need to find a spot to pharm their drops which won't trigger fish agro. If you look up from the octopus spawn spot you'll see a tunnel with two sea turtles spawn spots. They don't roam and they repop very fast (2 minutes?) so you can move your group there and pharm these two for the turtle fat. As appears to be typical for this xpac, drop rates drop as group members fill in their loots: our drop rate was 4 4 4 3 3 2 2 2 1 1 1 1 1.

when you get to the top of the coral and exit, just move to the ledge (out of the water) and go around it, you will see the opening with the thief in it. You can pull out the other mob to the ledge (clear the wonderer first), the thief is leashed and will not be part of your first fight. Then go kill the thief ...

The sword thief was hard for me to find. She is above the water inside the coral - there's a ramp at sea level that leads to a little alcove. Stick your head out of the water and swim around the coral until you see her. She usually has a friend in there with her (red con @104) so be ready.

I was able to box the octopus with a 104 war and chanter using AE mez. 104 Deadening Wave is probably required since some of these fish adds are yellow at 104.

Rune up the group, invis up, stand right on top of the octopus and AE mez every time you get an add. He's got a decent amount of HPs, but not too bad with one healer merc and one caster merc on Burn.

There were some resists, but as long as you keep spamming it you should be able to keep the area locked down. Once the octopus dies you'll probably have like 5 adds mezzed and want to exit stage right ASAP. Don't forget to loot the shield from him first.

If the octopus part gives you trouble I suggest you bring along a mage and a druid. Mage pet can easily tank the octo, and the druid will not be kos to the fish so can easily dps the octopus down.

Like other tasks in TBS progression. If you are just need an update, you can just pluck an arrow at the mob, heal someone in that group, etc. I had 2 others send me tell with "thanks for update" from outside my group. I dont know just how many can get credit, but it so happens that 2 in my group had already done the task.
