NOTE: A patch on March 25, 2015, added a work-around to obtain items from Cazic Thule, Dread, Fright, and Terror:

In the Plane of Fear, a harbinger of Fear can help adventurers get their epic 1.0 pieces that would normally drop from Cazic-Thule or the golems. These pieces cannot be multi-quested or traded. In addition, a harbinger of Fear can advance the Whistling Fists quest in the same way as Cazic-Thule.

Full Walkthrough

The quest starts in Nektulos Forest where you must find Venenzi Oberzendi. She is at location -1140, -260 post-post-revamp.

You say, 'Hail, Venenzi Oberzendi'

Venenzi Oberzendi says 'What is it you want! Can't you see I am gathering reagents for my [master]? If I don't get them for him quickly he might punish me.'

You say, 'Who is your master?'

Venenzi Oberzendi says 'You do not know of my teacher? The great Kazen Fe'cae! I am one of his illustrious apprentices! If you fancy yourself a necromancer, travel to Lake Rathetear and tell Kazen you wish to study the dark arts.'

You say, 'What reagents?'

Venenzi Oberzendi says 'My master is working on some great project. He's always busy studying an old text he found and murmuring something about following in the footsteps of Miragul.'

Her Master, Kazen Facae, is at location +340, -1600 in Lake Rathetear.

You say, 'Hail, Kazen Fecae'

Kazen Fecae 's eyes seem to glow as he turns to you and says, 'Leave me be if you have no reason to be here, mortal!'

You say, 'I wish to study the dark arts.'

Kazen Fecae looks you up and down, his eyes glowing with a soft red light. After a moment he begins to speak though his lips do not move. 'You wish to study under me? Perhaps, if you prove yourself to follow the twisted path. If you prove to be as coldhearted as I then I will let you become my servant.'

You say, 'How can I prove myself?'

Kazen Fecae says 'The wandering 'knight' Sir Edwin Motte recently slew one of my lesser servants. This foolish knave travels from town to town pretending to be 'good.' Separate his head from his body and return it to me so I may work my magics upon it. This fool will become another plaything for me, even in death.'

Sir Edwin Motte is a 33rd level Paladin. He is found in four places throughout Norrath. The easiest place to find him is at the Docks in East Freeport. He spawns fairly frequently in Seafarers Roost. Once he has spawned, kill him and loot his head. Bring the head back to Kazen for the Symbol of the Apprentice.

Kazen Fecae says 'Excellent!' You watch Kazen hold the head by the hair and begin to cast a spell. A flash of darkness centers around the head and the eyes of the dead knight open, a terrible scream emanating from its lips. 'This poor fool here - I think I will keep him in my bag from now on. You have done well, my new apprentice. Take this symbol and know that you can do other tasks to advance within my apprentice ranks.'

You say, 'How can I advance?'

Kazen Fecae says 'I share great secrets with my more powerful servants who show me they are willing to serve without question. Tell my servant the name of any symbol he gives you and he will instruct you. If I give you a symbol, speak its name to me so I may instruct you.'

You say, 'What about a symbol of the apprentice?'

Kazen Fecae says 'You have a long way to go before I teach you the true secrets of life and death. Visit Venenzi Oberendi in the Nektulos forest and show her the symbol. She is collecting reagents for one of my experiments and is taking far too long. I do not wish her dead, yet. I simply need the reagents soon. Retrieve the reagents and give them to my assistant Emkel Kabae. I do not wish to handle them myself.'

Take the symbol to Venenzi and she will give you the Twisted Symbol of the Apprentice.

Venenzi Oberzendi says 'I see you serve my master as well now. I assume you are here to take the reagents from me which I have gathered for him? I don't know if I like the idea of you gaining the credit for my hard work here. I might consider giving you these reagents, if only you do a small [task] for me.'

You say, 'What task?'

Venenzi Oberzendi looks down at her robes and back at you. 'There is a certain dark elf magician who has decided to wear the same fashion as I have on several occasions. I do not wish to attend another social gathering in Neriak and look exactly the same as another woman. Slay her and bring me her robe and I will give you my hard earned reagents.'

The robe she speaks of is a Flowing Black Robe. This is dropped in Najena by - you guessed it - Najena. It would surely be quicker to visit The Bazaar and buy one off a player. Regardless of how you obtain it, head back to Venenzi and hand it over.

Venenzi Oberzendi says 'Thank you. I did not think you would track down Najena and slay her. I think that I am going to return to my old life in Neriak. I am sick of the way Kazen has been treating me. He never seems to teach me anything worthwhile. Don't forget to give his lapdog that symbol with the reagents. I'm sure he will give you a new one.'

You will receive a Rolling Stone Moss. Now you will need to go back to Lake Rathetear and find Emkel, Fazen's Apprentice. He is by the stone skeleton tower.

You say, 'Hail, Emkel Kabae'

Emkel Kabae says 'I am Emkel Kabae, first apprentice to Kazen. If you have a symbol, tell me its name.'

Give him the Twisted Symbol of the Apprentice and the moss for the Symbol of the Serpent.

Emkel Kabae says 'Very good, you have done as the master asked yet again, take this as a reward.' Emkel reaches into his robes and pulls out a small symbol. He holds it out and the tiny symbol floats to your hand.

You say, 'What is the symbol of the serpent?'

Emkel Kabae says 'There are more reagents to be gathered. The time draws near for our master's ascension. Travel to the lands of Kunark and seek out Ssessthrass. He is a very wise Iksar herbalist helping me in my endeavor to please Master Kazen. Be careful not to insult his speech, or you may end up dead before you serve your purpose to the master. Be sure to show him the symbol as proof or he may consider you dinner.'

You will need to take this Symbol to Ssessthrass, a named Iksar in the Swamp of No Hope. He is at location +3800, +1600, which is in a house in the pass to go to Field of Bone. He will give you Scaled Symbol of the Serpent.

You say, 'Hail, Ssessthrass'

Ssessthrass says 'I do not wisssh to be bothered.'

Give him the Symbol of the Serpent.

Ssessthrass says 'Sssso, Emkel ssssent you to retrieve the manisi herb? I do not have the herb. The ssssarnak guard the herb. Apparently it is ssssacred to them. Only memberssss of their royal family are allowed to partake of it. They live deep in Chardok. They are hoarding what little of the precious herb there is. If you have an army, perhapssss you can bring me the herb and I can prepare it for Emkel. Bring back this ssssymbol as well.'

Next, head to Chardok and find the Herbalist. His spawn point is at the green house near the bank (first right after you cross the bridge). He doesn't always drop the Manisi Herb, which is what you need from him so you might have to try this more than once. Return to Ssessthrass and give him the Manisi Herb and the Scaled Symbol of the Serpent.

Ssessthrass looks at you and bows. 'You are truly a fearsome sssshadow weaver! Or you have powerful alliessss,' he adds a moment later. Ssessthrass pulls the manisi herb apart and hands a piece to you. 'Emkel will be most pleased with us both!'
You gain experience!!

You receive a Refined Manisi Herb. Head back to Emkel and give him the Refined Manisi Herb.

Emkel Kabae says 'You are truly worthy of studying with our master. Bear this new symbol and contemplate what you wish from life before you let go of it. Ask the master about the symbol of testing and he will explain all. I too was tested by him.' Emkel pulls up his sleeve to show a grievous scar from his wrist to his shoulder.'
You gain experience!!

You receive a Symbol of Testing.

You say, 'Tell me about the symbol of testing'

Emkel Kabae says 'You must ask the master about the symbol of testing. Do not hand the symbol to him for he may interpret that as a breach of conduct.'

Return to Kazen and tell him about the symbol:

You say, 'I have a symbol of testing'

Kazen Fecae says 'Show me that you can overcome larger obstacles and manipulate servants. Gather a force for of mercenaries if you like, or so-called friends, if you desire, and prepare for battle, my promising young student. Return to me with the symbol of testing when you are prepared for battle with my creations. Have no fear, I will not slay you myself. If you do live, tell me the name of the symbol you receive.'

Hand him the Symbol of Testing.

Kazen Fecae says 'As you hand Kazen the symbol, you hear him speak directly into your mind. 'Good luck, my student!' Kazen finishes an incantation and suddenly hands begin to reach up from the ground, as if they were pulling themselves from the grave all around you. A piercing scream fills the air as the creatures advance upon you!'

a bone golem says 'Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!'

A bone golem spawns to the east of Emkel on a little inlet. Upon its death, a failed apprentice spawns and attacks. Upon its death, a tortured soul spawns and attacks as well. You can kill these with two groups of 50+. With a few clerics and tanks, they shouldn't cause trouble. They hit for ~120 and are not overly difficult.

Loot a Symbol of Insanity from a tortured soul.

Upon asking Kazen about the symbol:

You say, 'What do I do with the symbol of insanity?'

Kazen Fecae says 'It is time for you to meet my partner, so to speak. Drendico Metalbones is his name and I assure you he is quite mad. His mind has been rended by fright, dread, and terror in his trips to the planes and his heart is full of hatred now. He has a tome which I wish you to use. Show him your symbol slowly and listen to his rantings well, they hide great knowledge.''

Take the symbol to Drendico Metalbones in Timorous Deep (he is located near the dock that takes you to the Overthere). If you turn right from the docks and climb onto a stoney hill, you will see this little gnome wandering around +6485, +3829.

You say, 'Hail, Drendico Metalbones'

Drendico Metalbones says 'The hills ears keep spinning the wonders of wells. Twisting twisting fly in water scar hot horses. Teach me! Bring floating water islands of doom!'

Give him the symbol.

Drendico Metalbones says 'Seek, search, turn, twist! Kazen hopes to death master truly! Read out, read in between! Talk to the pretty clouds.' Drendico turns his back to you and throws a book over his shoulder. 'Bring back book! Bring back reagents three!!' He shouts as he mumbles some more gibberish.'

You receive his journal. It reads (backwards):

must find for master kazen

feathered spiroc cloak
eye innoruuk of
slime of blood thule cazic

grocery list
milk
bread
soap
fippy snacks

I am quite mad you know
You'll need to pick up a Cloak of Spiroc Feathers, the Eye of Innoruuk, and the Slime Blood of Cazic Thule.

The Eye of Innoruuk drops from mini-bosses in the Plane of Hate (also from Innoruuk himself).

The (Slime) Blood of Cazic Thule is dropped off of Terror and Cazic Thule himself. Needless to say you'll want to bring a few friends for this fight.

To get the Cloak of Spiroc Feathers, complete the linked "Necromancer Test of Power" quest in the Plane of Sky.

Take the cloak, eye, blood, and the journal to Drendico.

Drendico Metalbones turns to you in amazement. 'You actually did it! These are the correct components! Kazen will be most pleased. I searched the planes for almost a year and could not find all the correct components.' Drendico fiddles with the components, puts them into a box and hands it to you. 'You must have access to an army, _____. Return the components to Kazen quickly.'

You receive a Prepared Reagents Box. Take this to Kazen:

Kazen Fecae stares through you at the horizon, pausing as he reaches into his robes. Kazen pulls out a scythe with a shimmering black blade that seems too large to have been hidden there. As quickly and gracefully as it was displayed to you, it is returned to the void inside Kazen's robes. 'It is a creation of Miragul which was looted from his lair under the ice. Take this tome, it will be your final task for me as an apprentice.'

You receive a Tome of Instruction.

Now, head to the Plane of Sky and speak with the Thunder Spirit Princess on the port-up isle.

You say, 'Hail, a thunder spirit princess'

a thunder spirit princess says 'Greetings, travelers, welcome to the Plane of Sky! We are thunder spirits - this first island is our home. You are welcome to stay here as long as you like. If you wish to go to other islands you may purchase keys from the Key Master.'

You say, 'Tell me about Gkzzallk'

a thunder spirit princess says 'Gkzzallk lives far above here. We often take him tea because he's so nice to us fairies! He likes to chat with the others who live here and can often be found in the temple up above. If you give me a bit of money, I can go make sure he is home.'

Give her 10 gold pieces or 1 plat.

a thunder spirit princess says 'Thank you, _____. I will tell him to expect visitors.'

Click up to the third isle where you'll find Gkzzallk.

You say, 'Hail, Gkzzallk'

Gkzzallk says 'Hello Stranger, would you care for some tea?'

Hand him the tome:

Gkzzallk screams as he touches the book. His body shimmers as he shrinks smaller and smaller until it's no larger than an insect. The book shimmers, shifting into the shape of a small, black box. Gkzzallk holds on to the opening of the box as he is sucked backward into it. The tiny screams are finally silenced as the box top closes.

You receive "Gkzzallk in a Box". Take this item to Kazen.

Kazen Fecae grins widely and his eyes flare a deep red. The scythe he promised you flies through the air and into your hand. 'Enjoy your toy, I have no more need of you as a servant.'

You receive the Scythe of the Shadowed Soul.

Necro epic is a waste of time
# Apr 23 2001 at 4:56 PM Rating: Default
Look at the quest requirements. Do you see Cloak of Spiroc Feathers? Any idea how hard that is to get, or are your newbiesh minds still comprehending the fact that it does 1.2k damage! The Cloak is quite possibly the hardest Sky quest to do, the main part being a 1 in 20 drop. In addition, many guild capable of doing epics will not do the necro epic aside from vanity, because this does not better our class on raids or just in general, which epics were designed to do in the first place. I will give a few examples of where Verant didnt ***** up.

Rogue epic-increases BS damage by almost double of what many do on average
Cleric epic-The quintessential epic, it allows guilds to do battle-rezzing
Enchanter epic-Saves a ton of mana and a precious spell slot by allowing enchanters to haste tanks en masse, and at a manaless cost
Shaman epic-While not being as useful as the others, the versatality(sp) of the proc makes it more than worthwhile, and its relatively easy to do

Granted, alot of the epics do suck with some of the new Velious drops, but, can anyone honestly name an epic that has a worse risk V reward ratio? And the usefullness of the proc is quite debateable, because with a 9 second cast time, I for one prefer Dooming Darkness. For an item thats the REAL necro epic, look at Zlandicars Heart.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 29 2001 at 11:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Eh, it depends upon how much your guild loves you =P
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 29 2001 at 11:34 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol no thats not entirely true, my guild does love me very much, as I do them. Were perfectly capable of doing Sky, its just hard to find the time when were running around day after day do everyone else's epic. Truth be told for the Class, it's basicly worthless in its skills, on raids all they want you for is summoning lost bodies and dumping mana.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 01 2001 at 6:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If the epic quest weapon is a waste of time getting, then why in world are you playing EQ? Games should have goals, epic quests in EQ are high goals to reach and whether or not this quest is a waste of time is argumentative. To me, NO epic is a waste of time. When someone says this, they are basically saying that they are lazy. So, please don't bother wasting anyone's time trying to talk anyone else out there who loves this game and will work hard for what they receive out of doing this or ANY quest. Let them decide for themselves if the wish to do or not do a quest. It is people like you who ruin the game for those of us who want to accomplish something other than siting in EC or GFay all day posting: /auc WTB really awesome weapons and armor for my character cuz I am too lazy to go out and get them or do not have the patience or drive to even complete the littlest, simplest of quests, please send tells. Thanks for being a complete twit.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 07 2001 at 9:48 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) cause there are no other video/roleplay games to play..YET!! i for one only go around getting items to make my necro look cool cause there aren't many useful necro items..and for every useful necro item paly cleric and enchanter have 5 more. and i know your dumb a$$ is gonna ask..wel than why play a necro? well thats easy i started playing necro before nerf 1 2 3 and 4 and before this gay a$$ epic weapon idea came out and i really don't want to start another character on this game...furthermore...i really don't plan on buying anymore of verants products...verant can lick my....<FILL IN BLANK>

I have a few quick comments. First the cast time, most necro's know how long to wait before they dark something so we don't really need an item that we right click as soon as the mob is pulled to us. And if its resisted then we are behind with our casts. The dot is not up to the standards of other dots we have by the time we are able to get this(with a decent guild 50). Also you can't use this to solo unless you are pulling mobs that are stationary, and even then you'll still need to have dooming darkness mem'd just incase. Also dooming darkness only costs 120 to cast not 300+. The anonymous poster before me obviously does not know how to play a high level necromancer. Personally I rarely run out of mana even in a group because I use lich. The only reason most necros consider getting this item is because its got the best stats we can get for a single handed item. Verant needs to fix 2 things on this. 1 change casting time or make the effect something better, and 2 scrap the duck staff look and make it something we can be proud to carry around, I want to look evil not goofy.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 12 2001 at 9:45 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yes it is a long cast time.. however it is WELL worth the time and effort. oit saves the caster 300+ mana each cast and snares the beast with a rather good dot. People u must see this is the NECRO epic.. necros cant do **** besides solo really lol. The snare is PERFECT time for when you group in KC or dungeons. First off all it gives the tanks enought time to get the mob completely aggroed on them so that if they resist they dotn own the caster and it also allows enough time for dot to gegt on them and they wil not aggro ont u. Also if you are whining about cast time you obviously dont know how to play a necro too well. The first thing you do to mob your gonna solo or snare is... SNARE so a free snare that takes 9 seconds to cast is fine by me. And if mob agros b4 u can cast u can always root them (Paralyzing Earth) 49 spell. Then snare them for free. THIS IS AN UBER WEPON some of you just are nooobs the dont understand how to play a high lvl character.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 29 2001 at 3:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Obviously posted by an idiot who wants to make fun of people by calling them nooobs but has no clue. Necro's can't do @#%^ but solo? Hmm between Paralyzing Earth/ST we can make great 2-3 MOB crowd control, Corpal Empathy/BoD and such we can provide good backup healing, Ignite Blood is loved by all the melee classes for the debuffs, and Splurt is always nice. I play a Mage/Necro combe, and we tend to solo rather then LFG. But we can kick butt and take names in a group too. A group of us 2 at 49, a 47 War and a Cleric killed the Warlord in KC the other night, who was nice and red to all of us, as well as derailed several trains. And don't even get me started on what kind of pain we can put out in undead dungeons. The proc is ok (I tend to be casting on Malised MOB's so resists are generally very low), but this is not an UBER proc. I'd prefer to see Exile Undead or Touch of Night. Or if it's going to be a Dark Line at least make it Devouring Darkness.

The first half of the epic consists of running erends solo around antonica, and SONH. The second half is gathering 4 rare items, 1 battle then more errend running. The items needed are Manasi herb (royal chardok herbalist)uncommon drop rare spawn, Slime blood of cazic thule (any of the lesser boss mobs in plane of fear can drop)current most rare piece, Eye of innoruuk (drop of lesser boss mobs in hate) rare, and do the cloak of spiroc feathers quest in air (refer to quest piece listing on this website for drop info) used to be the bottleneck for epic but black cape drop was upped alot.

I actually found him in the Inn behind where the Paladin camp is in Rathe Mountains. I'm a Dark Elf so I had to be careful not to aggro the ranger guard (even tho he conned green to me at 40). Just walked in, he was to the right in the room by himself. Conned blue and dubious. The merchants left me alone. Motte heals himself unless you can fear him to keep him from casting like I did. Sicked the pet on him, cast Darkness, Fear, then nuke-nuke-nuke! Voila! Head of Motte (Lore No Drop), a ringmail coiffe and a few plat dropped. Even got a bit of xp too. Bonus!

I found him very easily just sitting on the path in Qeynos Hills that runs from the marker to the WK zone. i was between the zone and the tower and he just runs from the WK zone to Qeynos. All you have to do is sit there and he came to me probably within an hour which isnt long at all compared to other mobs.

Someone was kind enough to finally post a walkthrough of the quest here. Look under "RE: Complete Walkthrough??". It looks like to me that this is a copy of the post that Zrazzt made the day after he completed the quest. No guarantees that everything on the post below is correct, but from what I know, it all looks good to me. Good luck on your quest, this one isn't too easy!

1. Head to Nektulos Forest and find the female NPC by the river loc -1000 -700

2. Head to Lake Rathe and find Kazen Facae loc 340 -1600

3. Kill Sir Edwin Motte (level 33 paladin). He is easiest to catch in tavern by the docks in EFp where he is on a rotation with the Tumpy Irontoe.

4. Bring head of Motte to Kazen and recieve a Symbol of the Appretice

5. Bring Symbol of the Appretice to the DE in Nektulos Forest, she'll return to you Twisted Symbol of the Apprentice

6. Go to Najena and camp FBR and when you get it go to Nektulos Forest and give FBR to DE female and get some moss

7. Head to Lake Rathe & give moss and Twisted Symbol of the Apprentice to Kazens apprentice, Emkel. Get Symbol of the Serpent.

8. Go to Swamp of No Hope and find Ssessthrass loc 3800 1600 give him Symbol of the Serpent, receive Scaled Symbol of the Serpent.

9. Head to Chardok. Kill Royal Herbalist and loot Manisi Herb (found on way to overking area, right before the secret door which leads to overking room).

10. Go back to Ssessthrass and give him Scaled Symbol of the Serpant and herb, and he'll return Refined Manisi Herb.

11. Head to Lake Rathe and give Emkel Refined Manisi Herb, he will give you Symbol of Testing.

12. Have about 12-15 people ready (clerics and tanks are a must) and give Symbol of Testing to Kazen. 3 mobs will spawn. Kill these, last drops symbol of Insanity.

13. Go to Timerous Deep, give Symbol of Insanity to Drendico Metalbones (near where evil raft drops you off, on hill) and he gives you his journal.

14. Gather Cloak of Spiroc Feathers (quest in Sky), Eye of Innoruuk, and Slime Blood of Cazic Thule. Bring all 3 along with Drendico's journal to timerous deep. Give to Drendico, he returns to you a PREPARED REAGENT BOX.

15. Take PREPARED REAGENT BOX to Kazen, and give to him...you get back a TOME OF INSTRUCTION.

16. Go to Plane of Sky, give Thunder Spirit Princess 3pp. Then Clear isle to 3rd (Gorgalosk) isle.

17. Give Gkzzallk the TOME OF INSTRUCTION. You get back GKZZALLK IN A BOX. (no battle.)

18. Go to lake Rathe, give Kazel GKZZALLK IN A BOX. (no battle) Get back Scythe of Shadowed Souls. DONE!

Refined manisi herb also drops off froglok ton warriors in swamp of no hope. I have got it at least 5 times while camping them for items required in a iksar shammy quest. I was curious about what it was for, since it's lore no drop, and decided to look it up. Now i know. Unless there are triggers involved, there may be no need to kill the herbalist or do all the other stuff first.
RE: Refined manisi herb
# Feb 14 2001 at 10:44 PM Rating: Default
its called Manisi herb not Refined and you DO get it from the herbalist in Chardok and he has Placeholders

The quote from the previous post was: "10. Go back to Ssessthrass and give him Scaled Symbol of the Serpant and herb, and he'll return Refined Manisi Herb.
11. Head to Lake Rathe and give Emkel Refined Manisi Herb, he will give you Symbol of Testing. "

If you can get the refined manisi herb directly from low level ton warriors in SoNH, why do you need to kill the herbalist to get the manisi herb to give to Ssessthrass, who in turn gives you refined manisi herb for the next step?

Either the steps outlined in the previous post are wrong or there is an easy way to get the refined herb. Worth checking out :).

Actually it says you loot the Manisi herb and turn it in. He then gives you Refined Manisi herb back...

Has anyone here (outside of the person who did the quest) actually seen the weapon? I have. And I have to say that it is probably one of the best looking weapons and that EVERY necro should have one! (well... not everyone, it would become a mainstream thing). This particle weapon is INCREDIBLE to say the least... not to mention watching it in action!

Theres only one other person with it on my server, I'm really hoping to be the 2nd or 3rd to complete it. Just missing the Cloak and Cazic-Slime Blood (offering 80k cash) for that part. Yah... deffinatly the best epic weapon graphic wise.

Well, I was really looking forward to finishing this quest, was all set to get a group together and get at that herbalsit, but after seeing what I am going to get as a reward...Blah. It is not even worth the risk of camping the Herbalist that deep in Chardok let alone killing 2 gods multiple times, giving up 2 very nice -and tradable- items from them when they do finally drop, handing in a Siroc Cloack, gettin the manpower together to do all this, since it is impossible for it to be done solo....well you get the point.

This weapon blows. Period. Stats are allright, but they are the least important part of it. What I was looking forward to was an item that would look dark, evil, and sinister, while giving me an effect that proves useful in a group ( after all, I did need alot of help to get it). Blah. This thing is niether. It looks absolutely retarted, and the effect is truly useless. I wouldn't even use this thing to pull while soloing. I am never going to waste my time on this useless duck-head on a stick, I think I will stick to my harvester. I look much more sinister and gain a useful effect.

heheh My idea of a Twink is MoSS, Full DF, Hero Bracer, Bracer of Scavenging, not bad all in all
..

But back to the Item ...

I fail to see the problem people are having with this uber Epic weapon
It's damage delay for a Necro is Good . +20 Int ... that cannot be terrible, +to all resistances at least 5 to cold fire +to mana and Hps .... and a clickable effect??? Oh yeah that sounds pretty crappy too *P maybe you should remove your respective heads from your *** and realise that it IS EPIC !!!

I see your point of view here ok ...
RE: Scythe of the Shadowed Soul Quest
# Apr 08 2001 at 7:30 PM Rating: Default
I think the issue is the effect. I saw a post from a 56 or 57 Mage who with his Epic he claims summoned a pet that was red to him. Clerics get an effect that can res your entire Planes party when a pull goes bad for no mana. And we get one that procs a 49 effect that takes 2 minutes to wear off. I wouldn't claim that it's not a nice item, but considering what you have to do to get it it doesn't seem worth the effort. I mean you can get two hand items that will give you close to 20 INT and add to your resists a whole lot easier. And at that point all you get out of it is a mana-free 49 spell that being darkness tends to get resisted more often.

I retract any previous statement I have made regarding the proc on this weapon. A 9 second casting time???? You have got to be kidding me...

Two things they could do to make this weapon SO much better, but without overpaowering it:

1) Copy the cleric FA. Have the staff Summon Corpse without the use of mana or a coffin. Not overpowering, but I guarantee every necromancer would love to have it at her side.

2) Remove the proc altogether and tack on 200 hps on the staff.

Again I ask...9 seconds casting time??? Sheesh...
RE: Read for yourselfs
# Oct 18 2000 at 2:16 AM Rating: Default
I think it is pretty lame to just copy a spell that a class already has and give it to the epic weapon. It is even worse to copy a spell that we already have and make it much much worse. Summon corpse would be handy, but something a little more creative and unique would be better. Necros are supposed to be evil, dark, and fearsome. Perhaps an AOE fear? Illusion Spectre with some effects like improving faction with undead while in that form, increased resistances while in that form, special forms of sight or movement (walking through thin walls in a ghostlike manner would be both useful and fitting)? Heh, allowing it to change the environment from day to night, either zonewide, or in a small area would be fitting, plus allow us to use some of our high lvl spells more than 50% of the time...It would also make just about every low lvl human hate us hehe, but that fits the necromancer image. These are just some random ideas, and I am not even considering power or balance here, just what would fit the necromancer persona.
RE: Read for yourselfs
# Feb 15 2001 at 8:11 PM Rating: Default
I have to say that your ideas are so far the most cleaver and reasonable ideas I've heard so far about our Epic. It definately needs a retouch on it's uniqueness.
I do disagree slightly on the idea that it would be bad to copy a spell we already have and make it more reasonable and applicable to use. The REZ stick is the perfect example - it's all about keeping clerics away from "down time". Why not give us a summon pet (without needing reagents) or a fear spell (that's extremely hard to resist) that's an effect on a weapon? Both of those are specific to what we do...

Anyway, just my thoughts on the matter.

On that ghost form thing or whatver with walking through walls, that is way to powerful. You don't have to worry about trains because you can just run straight through the zone, and you know someone would probably darkness and dot a mob, run through a wall, when dot goes away they just do it again, they have nothing to fear. That's my 2 cents. But the spectre illusion thing would be awesome, fun way to scare the hell outta newbies in Oasis
RE: Read for yourselfs
# Nov 01 2000 at 7:28 AM Rating: Default
In case you haven't noticed that doesn't work, mobs can port through walls and ghost straight onto you if you try it. Druids use to use Sow to trap mobs on the other side of mountains so mobs got a limited port power while aggro
Hmm

9 Second Cast Time!
# Oct 15 2000 at 7:44 AM Rating: Default
Zzrazt clarified on this, saying it is not a proc, but it does have a 9 SECOND CASTING TIME!

That's an awful long casting time.
RE: 9 Second Cast Time!
# Apr 12 2001 at 9:40 AM Rating: Default
Yes it is a long cast time.. however it is WELL worth the time and effort. oit saves the caster 300+ mana each cast and snares the beast with a rather good dot. THIS IS AN UBER WEPON some of you just are nooobs the dont understand how to play a high lvl character.

do u have the item? the person that posted the stats used the term "instant click" to me that means no cast time. can anyone offer a firm yes or no to this arguement? either way the item doesnt suck, just a matter of whether i want it real bad, or pee myself bad..
RE: Hmm
# Oct 13 2000 at 7:13 AM Rating: Default
do u have it? do u know anyone that does? how do u know it has cast time? and even if it does, will save tons of mana, and IT DOES NOT SUCK, i dont care what any of u say, show me a an item that u can see graphics on it for us necros? ok,,,none, now show me an item that even compares to the stats on this thing and i will shut up right now....hmm ok ill shut up anyway..but first i would like to plead all of u that think this item sucks, please stay away from doing the quest and the camps it involves so the people that want it and think its a great item can get it first
yeah BUT!
# Oct 12 2000 at 7:54 PM Rating: Default
How many necros that can complete a quest of this greatness really need darkness? by high 50s we dont have much we can kite and solo, 51+ for necro are a lil nasty to solo considering we bruise easy when summoned ( 2 seconds for me in skyfire by a summoned mob before i say hello to the pavement).
THOUGH it does help in dungeon and plane situations to stop a mob from running, which WOULD be its main use....but lets all hope Velious has something to make this effect really kick ***. Congrats to the Necromancers.
Darkness
# Oct 12 2000 at 7:10 PM Rating: Default

Maybe im the only necro with this problem, but darkness is the most resisted dot that i have...and if this is an insta-cast darkness spell...that is tight. True, it could have been some insane thing, but im very happy with the effect, personally
RE: Darkness
# Oct 15 2000 at 7:55 AM Rating: Default
ah but it is not instant cast but casting time 9 SECONDS that is why it is not "tight" and rather ***
RE: Darkness
# Oct 16 2000 at 4:34 PM Rating: Default
Well, you could just open the battle up with this spell. If you have to wait 9 seconds before fighting, it's not that big of a deal .... in battle, though, it really sucks
RE: Darkness
# Apr 12 2001 at 9:20 AM Rating: Default
OK U ARE ALL ****** NOBIES IN MY OPINION. If you are a smart necromancer you would start by using the staff asa cast time IF u ever get it. if they resist u simply root and do it again. Christ some of u must not even be lvl 34 yet. There is a spell called root for god sakes USE IT. THIS IS AN UBER WEP. First of all it saves the necromancer 340 mana per darkness and gives insanely nice stats. So quite your whining you obviously DONT know how to play a necromancer.
Myddraal Heartsbane RZ
Why even do that?
# Oct 19 2000 at 5:23 PM Rating: Default
The effect can break in as little as 3 seconds. Sure, you can open the battle with this spell, assuming the mob is stationary. But since you'll have no idea when the effect will break, why would you risk that?

I'll just stick with my level 29 darkness, thank you.
RE: Why even do that?
# Nov 15 2000 at 4:49 PM Rating: Default
granted it may not be the greatest proc in the world, but just hotkey the weapon into your bank and right click it every few seconds or so while in battle, even if you dont remember all the time, its not like you would take the time to look at your inventory to right click it, so when you see it in your bank, you may remember and decide to rightclick
The Darkness Spell
# Oct 12 2000 at 4:09 PM Rating: Default
Well concider that darkness dose 1200dam in 1min 36sec's i would say for a insta cast right click effect it's bad *** also slows up to 65% add it up saves you HELLA Mana =P
