Klok Mugruk is an armor merchant located in East Cabilis at +387, -217, +6.06 in the west part of the Haggle Baron building. He's on Find (Ctrl+F).

    You say, 'Hail, Klok Mugruk'

Klok Mugruk says 'Welcome to my shop, sss. Only the finessst I have. I make for you jussst as I make for the emperor's harem. Many [bristle silk] garmentsss do they need. Ssss.. Lucky man, the emperor isss.

    You say, 'What bristle silk?'

Klok Mugruk says 'What is bristle silk?!! Huh? Where have you been living? Under the rocksss.. Nahh. I sssee. You are a broodling from the common ssstock. You could never afford bristle silk nor the affectionss of those who drape themselves with it. Still, commons have much ssservice to offer. Maybe you would like to earn some [curscale armor]. Hmm?

You say, 'What is curscale armor?'

Klok Mugruk says 'Curscale armor? I make thisss crude armor from the broodlings of the scaled wolves. I use the ssskins of the pupsss and cubs. Those ssskins are ssstill young and thin and are bessst for the young adventurers. I sssupply them to the Legion of Cabilisss, but for a [small service] I shall make them available to you.

    You say, 'What small service?'

Klok Mugruk says 'I am in need of pup and cub scaled wolf skins to create more [curscale armor]. Many Legionnaires have died in battle. The Baron demands more sssuits. I mussst have more ssskins or it is MY HIDE!! I shall reward pieces of the curscale armor to any who [perform a small service].

You say, 'I will perform a small service'

Klok Mugruk says 'Good. You take thisss pack and fill it all with scaled curskins. Only the pupsss and cubs of the scaled wolves shall do. They are not much for one sssuch as you. Combine all those ssskins and return the full curskin pack and I shall reward you with any available piece of curskin armor and a sssmall amount of coin. Mossst important is that you shall be proving your allegiance to all of Cabilisss.

You receive an Empty Curskin Bag.

In the Field of Bone, kill scaled wolf pups and cubs until you have 8 Scaled Curskin. In the container, combine these to create a Full Curskin Bag. Give this to Klok Mugruk.

Klok Mugruk says 'You are a good servant and a fine citizen. I have this piece of curscale armor available, but if it is not enough then perhaps I shall have another piece available if you were to [perform the small service] again.

Your faction standing with Cabalis Residents has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with Legion Of Cabilis has been adjusted by 1.

    You gain experience!!
You receive 2 silver from Klok Mugruk.

    cub skins?
    # Apr 17 2001 at 3:06 AM Rating: Default
got the bag, but I'm confused. do you have to combine the curscale pup skins with the cub skins? if so, where are the cubs? all I can find are pups.
    RE: cub skins?
    # Apr 18 2001 at 1:48 PM Rating: Good
Cubs are more rare, but all you have to do is to put eight "Curscale skin" (dropped by pups and by cubs, they are the same) and combine them in the bag.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 15 2001 at 10:15 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I dont mean the quest. I mean the wearablity. All classes except necro can where it :P The only Iksar I'll ever make and it cant even where the best friggen armor for a newbie Iksar.
    Monk armor

This armor set, overall, is FAR better than raw silk armor with the SOLE exception of the curscale boots, since they weigh 0.1 stone more. The tunic and leggings weigh more by 0.9 stone, but the other pieces that are under 0.4 (raw silk weight) actually mean that the net effect is less weight than raw silk, one less AC (The tunic), and a very nice variety of resistances, which are sorely needed by monks. I love this quest, and I have outfitted myself with all of them (Though I will replace the curscale boots with the raw silk sandals as soon as my sewing is up to speed) I only bought the waist slot one after doing the quest 20 times in 2 hours, in between leveling (I did 2 levels in that time also, up to level 6). Oh, I also replaced the skullcap with the Shestar scaled coif, a very nifty 0.4 weighing awesome (THough disproportionate on a naked-looking body) hat with 4 AC. My necromancer had 15 in smithing for his guild quest so he made the shestar scaled coif and handed it back too.
Not to mention when someone cons most monks, it's either cloth, raw silk, or cured silk as levels progress up to 20s (Or patchwork if the monk's stupid) but with full curscale, shackles for wrists, Shestar scaled coif..the names themselves give you power in the eyes of one ignorant of Cabilis (Which 60+% are). It's so cool. Definitely a shoe-in until cured silk.
Only problem is getting overweight by 60.6 carrying enough to do the quest twice. Oh well, AC loss from overweight isn't that drastic and it was fairly easy to kill those wolves from 4-6 with the loss anyways. If you're tired of getting the same item over and over, the curscaled sell for 2 plat (I got seller each time I auctioned WTB curscaled sash for 2 pp). It's pricey, but what's your time worth? I can easily see someone doing the quest 30 times trying to get that certain piece..I was lucky in that I only repeated a few times, well, the tunic repeated like five times but others not more than once.
It also yields 1-2 gold, depending on whether you wear or sell to merchant (Like it's a duplicate). It's also great for monks since we have the shackles to fill in wrists, which to my knowledge curscale wristbands don't exist.

Very possibly the single best noob quest in the game! What other quest nets a 1st lvl character a backpack, armor, coin, faction AND a boatload of XP? Also, the Curscale quest keeps giving XP long after just killing the cubs for thier skins stops. I was still making XP (just a trickle, but XP nonetheless) at 8th lvl with this quest. Its the very first thing I tell newbie Iksar about.
    Is it broke?

Does anyone know if this quest is broke or suspended? For some reason i cannot get Klok to give me the bag .... sigh :(

i think ya gotta start it b4 you kill anything
    Easy way around this....

I found an easier way to get him to give me the pack. Hail him and just say to him "I will perform the small task" He'll give you the backpack. I've been doing it that way since I experimented with it last night. :)

Ask "What curscale armor?" to Klok Mugruk.

This quest is not broken. I completed it three times this evening. I only wish I had known about it from levels 1-4. I didn't discover it until level 5, at which point the baby wolfs no longer give experience. It's an excellent quest indeed.
    Absurdly easy...
    # Jan 23 2001 at 8:20 PM Rating: Good
Performing the quest for a lev 1 will get you to level 2 (provided you killed the cubs yourself). Doing it 4 more times will get you to level 3 (since you can tank two at once now, it's a lot faster provided, again, you killed the cubs yourself). At level 3, you can complete this quest in about 10 minutes (including zoning times) by just running around getting about 3-4 cubs on you and then turning and killing them all at once. Loot your 3-4 pelts, rinse, repeat.

So let's recap, you should be level 1 for about 25 minutes tops, level 2 for about 35 minutes, level 3 for about 45 minutes, and you will have anywhere between 4 pieces to a full suit (if you're really lucky) that weighs only 4.2 and gives you a nice ac for a newbie

    # Apr 19 2001 at 5:13 AM Rating: Default
Yes But I would not advise a level 1 character to try this alone . As the curscale cubs and pups con yellow to red for a level 1 . And with them swarming you can very easily kill a level 1 that is not tweaked. My suggestion is to go for this quest once you get to level 2 , you may find it easier.
    RE: Absurdly easy...
    # Jul 23 2001 at 2:49 PM Rating: Decent
As a lvl 1 Iksar SK cubs did not con yellow or red. They all conned white at lvl 1. Lvl two they conned blue. Dont know about pups though. But I am currently lvl 4. Ive got a full set of Rhino Hide. But I do want the curscale to sell. Maybe save as backup perhaps.
This looks like a great quest.

PS: Can you get the whole set multiple times?

get your scaled wolves straight. PUPS con white at lvl 1, not CUBS. cubs are tougher than pups.
    Great quest!

This quest is perfect for levels 1-5 I managed to get through the levels in three hours with this quest. Make sure you buy some backpacks as soon as you get some money and go back the the shop with your backpacks full of skins so you don't have to keep running with the one backpack of skins.. I usually collected enough skins for three full packs.. At lvl 5 this still got me 1 full bubble of XP per bag!!

If you start an Iksar, this is quite simply the best quest you can do at lower levels. Sure, it is repeating the title, but it need emphysis... Do This Quest. You can start killing pups at level one. The xp from killing pups and collecting their skins and then turning them in for this quest is more than you will get in any other normal newbie situation, so you will level fast. On top of that, the armor you get is the best armor any race gets at this level. You will be better equipped than any other non-twinked character your level. Every Iksar should spend at least the first three, if not four, levels solely hunting pups. Yeah this is short, but for those who don't realize it, this is also sweet.

The only problem with this quest is that it gives you so much exp so fast that you can outdistance your skills. Be careful to spread your hunting to other critters and keep your skills maxed.

I think the part missing above (but can be decyphered by just hailing Mugruk) is you tell him "I will perform a small task" THEN he gives you the backpack. Fill, combine, THEN give the resulting item back to him.
    RE: Missing.
    # Jan 26 2002 at 7:21 PM Rating: Default
Yes but the key in the phrase is "perform the small service" - not task. It worked for me just to stand next to him and say "I perform the small service"
    Great power lvler

Its fast it's easy and at Lvl 1 the pups are about the only thing you can kill. Great xp form the quest. Free armor and good money to boot, and factions raises that helps you buy and sell things later. It pushed me through to Lvl 5 in almost no time flat and gave me armor. What more can you ask for.

Certainly true. Since armor is often hard to find at lowest levels, this is fabulous. When you get a second of a certain type, it becomes some cash...which is always useful.

One thing everyone says is that you get no skill boost with this quest, i say that if i have to kill 8 or so woofies to get the quest, thats probably a max to my skills for lvl 1, and the time when the exp is nominal for killing the woofies and all the exp is from the quest, you are just getting free skills, and if you get like 4 woffies on you, which my lvl 2 monk i just started yesterday can take(non-twink), your dodge skill goes up like mad and theres not much down time, just get one woofie on you and run around like mad, pretty soon you will have 4 on you and slaughter, rinse, wash, repete.

Also, a great spot i have found is on the road from east cabillis right when it turns from green color ground to desert, woffies regularly spawn there and on a few occasions i have had 3 spawn there.

Problem is that one of the guards regularly patrolls the road, so if he passes by, try to lead them away from him, he will engage in the guard past-time of killing stuff you have to almost dead.
    Curscale works...
    # Aug 07 2000 at 7:32 AM Rating: Default
If you follow through the conversation by typing the words listed in brackets in valid questions, you get the backpack everytime. Sometimes the contents of the filled pack don't combine to produce anything, but then you just fill it up again. The key thing to remember is that you are getting exp killing Scaled critters!
    RE: Curscale works...
    # Dec 29 2000 at 8:00 AM Rating: Decent
When you do this quest make sure that you only put curscale skins in the pack. There is another type of skin that can drop off the higher level Curscales and they will give you the "these items do not combine" message. Outcome lost curscale skins and time.

Do you ever get a curscale tunic for completing the quest many times?if so whats the stats?
    RE: Tunic?
    # Oct 09 2000 at 2:47 AM Rating: Default
Yes. The tunic is 5AC, SvFire +3, Weight 1.0.
I did the quest about 15 times, and found that shoes and caps were the most common. I still don't have legs, waist or shoulders.

i've done the quest about 7 times now, and have gotten 2 tunics and 2 gloves, a belt, shawl, and boots.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 04 2000 at 10:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) He never gave me a backpack and the skins i gave him he took and said he didn't need them.
