It appears you do only need one scroll. I handed in all 4 at once, i got 4 xp messages, 4 different sets of money rewards, and 4 factions hits. However I only received one earring (no lore messages to indicate he was trying to give me more) and one thank you dialogue. since I handed in all 4 at once I am unsure which triggered the thank you and earring, or if it is because i handed all 4 in at once that it triggered it.

Turned in 2 Tanned Splitpaw Skins (#1 & #3), I could read both with no problem, no skill in gnoll. Recv'd the earing for #1 and 43c28s10g, earing again for #3 and 72c26s10g2p. Yes, they are lore, I threw the 1st one in the combined bank and went back for the second turn in.

Okay for starters, regardless of whether or not you know Gnoll you can still read the scrolls. Either the quest is bugged so its in English, or they changed it so you don't have to know gnoll.
Also, like everyone below has posted, I only got the earring when I turned in #4. Turned in #3 (never saw 1 or 2 drop...) and only got money and experience.
Also for the person two posts below saying Tummels said he had no use for this item, I think I know what you did. You gave him the skin that looks like a spell scroll. I tried giving him one of those as well (thinking it was #1 or #2) and he gave it back. When I gave him the tanned split paw skins that looked like a rolled up scroll, he took those.
Does anyone know what the skins that have the spell scroll icon are for?

The scrolls are use for both the Gem Inlaid Gauntlets and Karana's Tear. Give all four to Umvera in Crow's Tavern in N Qeynos and He'll tell you where to go from there. Easy to do with PoP. For Karana's tear, you give any of the scroll to Edvard Tommels either near the bank, or near the docks. The tear is random, but you get xp, some coin, and a small amount of good faction for Qeynos Citizens. This is the only quest to raise that faction.
Just tried this quest and he told me he had no use for this item. Conned indif to me but he didn't insult me so I don't think it was a faction issue. Any ideas?
I attempted it today.. gave him scroll #4 first, got exp + some money.. then gave him #3, same thing happenned; it did work.

I found him inside Fish's Ale down by the docks in South Qeynos. I got the earring for turning in scroll #4. He also gave me about 3pp, but no faction hits.

Ok, I did this quest with my 27 sk on The Seventh Hammer Server about a week or two ago. It was ok, I got some good faction and some coin but when I went back a couple days ago the guy isnt there. Im at the right building, but maybe he moved somewhere else? if anyone else has tried this recently but had the same trouble reply to this or somthing.

I have done this quest twice now. The first time I turned in the scrolls one at a time starting with the scroll numbered 1, then, 2, etc. I got the earring only when I gave him the scroll numbered 4. The second time I just gave him the scroll numbered 4 and got the earring. So, apparently, you only have to give him the number 4 scroll to get the earring. By the way, these are the scrolls that are rolled up. The same ones used in the Gem Inlaid Gauntlet Quest. I hope this helps to clear this up. It has been a bit confusing.

nope. you can turn in any scroll and get the earring. it's random... you're best of turning them in one at a time, then selling the earring if you get it (because you can't get another if you don't)

havent actually turned in the scrolls yet but i can read them and i dont know gnoll at all. so not sure if they changed reading languages or what.
Ive got this before with one scroll right, gave it to a newbie. Well i went back fer another adn he jipped me on the earring!! guess its random??

First off What it seams like here is that different scrolls are being turned in.The numbered scrolls 1-4 are used in the gem inlaied guantlets quest, the others, the tanned split paw hides are not numbered they are just diffrent in text. Like the discription said you have to be able to read gnoll.

on the price of the gaunts Ive sold a few pairs on antonius bayle for 150pp so they can make you some money if you are patient

there is so much contradictory info here that im thinking the one scroll per tear is random. best to just turn in all 4 at once. then u get the tear AND can do the gauntlet quest as well..no?

I just tried turning in scrolls. 1,3 & 4 & all I got was exp & $$. So, #2 is the trigger for the tear.
