Call of the Forsaken Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

About Heroic Adventures

- Heroic adventures in Call of the Forsaken scale in level: As low as Level 75 and up to current maximum level.
- Scale is based on the highest level player present in the zone and affects difficulty, loot quality, and mob levels.
- There is some variation/randomization in the task steps you'll be assigned as you progress through the task.
- Time of completion will vary by your group's makeup (anywhere from 30-90+ minutes).
- Collection items appear as ground spawns midway through tasks (you'll see an emote indicating their appearance).
- Named mobs (or their PHs) spawn midway through tasks (usually, but always, at the same time collection items appear).
- These tasks have individual 3-hour lockout timers (timer gained upon completion).

Experience in Heroic Adventures

- Mobs in these instances grant some experience, but the bulk of experience is earned upon task completion.
- As of a patch in November 2014, less difficult tasks were tuned to reward less experience and more difficult ones were tuned to reward more.
- For an added experience bonus, check out Guard Hamarn's "Daily Tasks".

    TASK IN DETAIL

    TRIGGERING THE TASK

    You say, 'Hail, Brother Estle'

    Brother Estle shakes his head as he surveys the devastation. 'When I first came to minister to the people of West Karana, I never thought this would be their fate. I imagined I would carry the message of the Prime Healer to all the people and bring peace to their souls. I imagined these lands would prosper and that my brothers and I would establish a new temple that would be the spiritual foundation of the Karanas. But when the light of [reality] shines, imagination often withers like shadows in the noonday sun .'

    You say, 'Reality?'

    Brother Estle says 'Who can say what shadow plays of imagination will foretell the future? The first act in my mind's theatre never showed to me the betrayal by my brother, Trintle. His spirit having been fouled by the cult of Bertoxxulous in the sewers below Qeynos, he attacked me one night on the road. Were it not for the help of a passing adventurer much like you, my body would have been as broken as these lands are now. Instead, Trintle went to his grave, and Chintle and I thought long about whether to abandon our mission and return to the temple. We decided the souls of the people were more important than our anguish at the loss of our brother. We thought our [vision] was still possible.'

    You say, 'What vision?'

    Brother Estle says 'Now I can see how naive it was. The play has become a tragedy.' Brother Estle sighs. 'The old visions are unwelcome. I can think of nothing lofty. What is left to me now is worry and duty. As a healer, I must attend to the injured. If I lose their bodies, I will also lose their souls. If only [Brother Chintle] we're here to aid me in such an impossible task.'

    You say, 'Brother Chintle?'

    Brother Estle says 'He was always even more naive than I. He could never accept that Brother Trintle's evil was not some sort of possession or mind control, just as he could not accept that such an enormous calamity could fall upon West Karana apart from the wrath of some evil spirit or god. Shortly after the tragedy occurred, Chintle began speaking of visions -- visions of Brother Trintle and the truth behind what happened here. He ran off in the night, and I have not seen him since. I fear for his safety and sanity, but now my [task] has doubled in difficulty without him. I cannot search for him when there is so much suffering with which I must contend.'

    You say, 'What task?'

    Brother Estle says 'There are injured who need healing, dead that lie unburied, and hungry who need food. The tasks are more than enough for one man, and the Qeynos guard are already stretched thin. You have seen the plight of the people. Will you [help], adventurer? If we can tend to the needs of the people, perhaps then I can search for Chintle and heal his troubled mind.'

    You say, 'I will help!'

    You have been assigned the task 'Life After Death'.

    Brother Estle needs your help: The village has been destroyed and people are dead or gravely injured. He has asked you to help him restore order to the village, since his fellow mercenary, Brother Chintle, has gone missing.

    Brother Estle says 'Thank you, _____. [Go] and prepare. Speak to me when you are ready.'

    STEP #1

  • Speak with Brother Estle 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Speak with Brother Estle to find out how you can help the villagers.

    If You Get This Step: Hail update. His response depends on the next step.

    If you get rubble piles next:

    Brother Estle says 'When the earthquakes shook the village, homes collapsed. Many people were trapped in the rubble. We tried to free them, but widow spiders, displaced by the quakes, have infested the destroyed homes. I am sure it will not be long before those left alive will be consumed by the spiders. Help the trapped villagers if you can. Clear the rubble and kill the widows.'

    If you get injured villagers next:

    Response?

    STEP #2

  • Destroy the rubble piles and widows that have trapped the villagers in their homes 0/37 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: When the earthquakes came, many villagers were trapped in their homes when they collapsed. Now widows have taken residence in the rubble and threaten the lives of the villagers. Destroy the rubble piles and kill the widows to free the trapped villagers.

    If You Get This Step: These are the "a rubble pile" and "a rubble widow" destructible objects around the village. The widows are fairly simple mobs, and the rubble piles don't have too many hitpoints. Some of the piles will spawn trivial mobs called "a widowling".

    =====================

  • Create a healing poultice and use it to cure the injured villagers 0/8 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Brother Estle needs your help to concoct a poultice that can heal the injured villagers. He nees you to : Collect 3 Bear Bile samples from bilious bears. Collect 3 Sapling Resin samples from offended saplings. Collect 3 Saplings Charcoal samples from burnt saplings. Give the samples to Brother Estle, and he will make the poultice. You can then heal the injured villagers using the poultice.

    If You Get This Step: Kill bilious bears, offended saplings, and burnt saplings until you've looted 3x "Bear Bile", 3x "Sapling Resin, and 3x "Sapling Charcoal" (respectively). Hand in these items to Brother Estle to receive "Brother Estle's Poultice", then right-click this item on "an injured villager" mobs.

    STEP #3

  • Speak with Brother Estle 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Speak with Brother Estle to find out what else he needs you to do.

    If You Get This Step: Hail update (receive "Brother Estle's Prayer Book").

    =====================

  • Speak with Brother Estle 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Speak with Brother Estle to find out what else he needs you to do.

    If You Get This Step: Hail update (receive "Grave Shovel" and "Corpse Rope").

    =====================

  • Speak with Brother Estle 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Speak with Brother Estle to find out what else he needs you to do.

    If You Get This Step: Hail update (no item given).

    Brother Estle says 'The miasma of death is overpowering. So many have died that it will take ages to bury them all. It pains me to think that we cannot pay the proper respect to the dead, but the living will surely join them if we do not do what is necessary. We need the hottest fires. Burning spirits have been flitting around the village, no doubt loosed from the depths of the earth by the quakes. Kill them, take their essences, and use them to kindle the piles of corpses.'

    STEP #4

  • Read Estle's prayer over the dead villagers 0/11 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Brother Estle wants to give safe travel to the souls of the recently departed villagers. Use his prayer book over the dead villagers to speak his words to the lingering souls.

    If You Get This Step: Target "a dead villager" and right-click the Prayer Book to spawn "a departing spirit"; kill the spirit.

    =====================

  • Dig graves, drag the decomposing villagers to the graves, and bury them 0/11 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window: Decomposing corpses are starting to stink up the village. Brother Estle wants you to give them a proper burial. To do so, he has given you a Grave Shovel and a Corpse Rope. Use the Grave Shovel in the open area to the west of the village, past the last houses, to dig graves. Use the Corpse Rope on the decomposing villagers to drag them to the graves. If a decomposing villager touches a grave, they will be buries automatically.

    If You Get This Step: Around /location 200, 0, -97, right-click the "Grave Shovel" to spawn a grave; then go to "a decomposing villager" and right-click "Corpse Rope" on it; lead them to the spawned grave. Mobs will attack as you lead the villagers away. Make sure you take off any form of levitation for this part.

    =====================

  • Kill the fire spirits and use their essences near the piles of rotting villagers so that the corpses ignite 0/5 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: There are so many piles of rotting corpses in the village that the stench has become overwhelming. Brother Estle wants you to burn the piles. To kindle a proper flame, you will need to kill fire spirits, take their Fire Spirit Essences, and use them on the piles of rotting villagers.

    If You Get This Step: Kill mephits called "a fire spirit", located northeast of the floating village. Loot the essences from their corpses, and use them on the groups of rotting villagers around the area.

    STEP #5

  • Speak with a spirit crier 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: A mysterious spirit has appeared, calling out to all the villagers. Speak with the spirit crier and see what it wants.

    If You Get This Step: The spirit caller can be found roaming beneath the floating house.

    a spirit crier shouts 'Members of the living, take heed! Listen to my words! The Horde is coming! The Brother shall lead them here! You will join our ranks!'

    a spirit crier shouts 'Your place is among the dead, and the Horde will be your masters!'

    a spirit crier shouts 'The Brother has spoken: The Karanas are damned! Lay down your lives to us and prepare for your inevitable servitude!'

    Hail it:

    You say, 'Hail, a spirit crier'

    a spirit crier says 'You are wise to stand before me, yes. You are wise to yield. Soon we come. Soon the living will become the dead!'

    STEP #6

  • Speak with Brother Estle 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Talk to Brother Estle about what the spirit said and what is in store for the village.

    If You Get This Step: Hail update.

    Brother Estle says 'So the spirit speaks of the glowing creatures that have harried this village since the disaster? They must be planning an assault, but I cannot say what the spirit meant by 'Brother.' I could not think that Chintle would be in collusion with them...' Brother Estle cups his hands around his mouth and yells, 'Everyone, retreat to the floating house! The Horde is coming, and we have no chance on the ground!' Brother Estle watches as people run about, panicked. He sees a group dashing into the underground tunnels. 'No! I have seen creatures of the Horde emerge from there! Surely they will be lost if they enter the realm below! Go after them. Hopefully nothing ill befalls them, but if the worst happens, pay back the Horde in kind!'

    STEP #7

  • Kill the raiders that are attacking the villagers 0/7 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window: The villagers have retreated to the floating house, but this is not enough. Brother Estle wants to arm them in case the Horde finds them there. Brother Estle has asked you to kill the weapon thieves that have taken over the destroyed weapon shop, retrieve the Sturdy Defensive Axes, and give them to the villagers.

    If You Get This Step: Kill the gehein raiders.

    =====================

  • Search for the villagers that ran into the Ethernere tunnels, and kill any resistance you meet 0/10 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Brother Estle has called for the villagers to retreat into the floating house, but a group of villagers were disoriented with fright and ran into the underground tunnels. You must search for the villagers in the tunnels and kill anything that might prey upon them.

    If You Get This Step: Kill updates (tunnel entrance by /loc 445, -600, -82: soul consumers and soul feasters).

    =====================

  • Recover axes from the thieves and arm the villagers so they can defend themselves 0/8 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: ?

    If You Get This Step: Loot 8x "Sturdy Defensive Axe" from "a weapon thief", then give the axes to villagers in the floating house (/loc 315, -440, 52).

    STEP #8

  • Speak with Brother Estle 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Speak with Brother Estle and prepare for the oncoming Horde.

    If You Get This Step: Hail update (no item received - leads into the first option in Step #9).

    Brother Estle says 'Here they come from the tunnels in the village and the outskirts in the east! They shall attack the floating house; I am sure of it. The Horde will soon be upon us, but as they ascend the ramp, I shall do what I can to weaken them with my magic. Kill them before they can assault the villagers!'

    =====================

  • Speak with Brother Estle 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Speak with Brother Estle and prepare for the oncoming Horde.

    If You Get This Step: Hail update (receive "Magical Trap" - leads into the second option in Step #9).

    =====================

  • Speak with Brother Estle 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    STEP #9

  • Kill the eradicators when Estle weakens them 0/10 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Kill the eradicators as they climb the ramp to the floating house. They come from the tunnels in the village and the eastern outskirts. Brother Estle will weaken them when they are close to him.

    If You Get This Step: Kill updates: gehein eradicators, skirth eradicators, tirun eradicators. These are staggered spawns that make their way towards Brother Estle's location. Once in range of him, he weakens them to 30% health. They hit for a max ~12,000 and summon when damaged, so don't take them too lightly. Note you can kill them without bringing them to Brother Estle, but will just have to do so from 100% health.

    =====================

  • Trap the soul slurpers with Estle's trap and then kill them before they can reach the villagers 0/7 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window: The soul slurpers are coming from the tunnels in the village or the eastern outskirts. They seek the villagers hiding in the floating house. Use the Magical Trap to freeze the soul slurpers in place for a short while, and then kill them.

    "Sippin suggests below to put your group at the top of the transparent ramp. When we first did that, we quickly became overrun by the soul slurpers, and our tank died. After rez and rebuff, we ended up just treating this as a 'kill task'. There appeared to be no need to trap the soul slurpers, just set up somewhere safe, pull them to the group, and kill. Updates came after each kill with no use of the trap." - asru

    If You Get This Step: Mobs called "a soul slurper" spawn and start walking up the spiral ramp. Kill these mobs. Note that you can use the "Magical Trap" received in the previous step to spawn an aura that freezes the slurpers in place (up to 40 seconds).

    =====================

  • Kill Brutallion to prevent it from completely destroying the village 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    a spiritual emissary says 'You have vanquished but a small number of the Horde. And where did their souls flee? Back to the land from whence they came, waiting to rise again and return. When the Brother comes, there will be no defeat. You will be the ones returning with us.'

    STEP #11

  • Speak with Brother Estle 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Talk to Brother Estle about all that has transpired.

Now that we are out of immediate danger, we must hasten to find Brother Chintle. He may know more about this than I would hope. You should [leave] and rest after such hard work. Return to me soon, and we will begin the search.'

    For STEP #9 / Soul slurper task, Sippin suggests below to put your group at the top of the transparent ramp. When we first did that, we quickly became overrun by the soul slurpers, and our tank died. After rez and rebuff, we ended up just treating this as a 'kill task'. There appeared to be no need to trap the soul slurpers, just set up somewhere safe, pull them to the group, and kill. Updates came after each kill with no use of the trap.

    I was going insane trying to wrangle corpses to the grave mound(s). It turned out that Levitation screwed things up. The pathing of skipping corpses won't put them to rest. As soon as I removed Levitate all was well.

    I will go back to verify that Levitate also ***** up the spawning of the weapon thieves. I was looking in the tunnels only to find them spawned above ground. I did not have time to finish up so I will try corpses without Levi and spawn the thieves with Levi.

    Can confirm that levitation will mess up step #4 for digging graves at least. I was able to grab the corpses but it would not allow me to dig the graves with lev on. Removed lev in same spot I was attempting to dig and it worked every time.

    STEP #2
    ========================================================================

    Create a healing poultice and use it to cure the injured villagers 0/8 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    STEP #4
    ========================================================================

    Read Estle's prayer over the dead villagers 0/11 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    Task Window Says: Brother Estle wants to give safe trabel to the souls of the recently departed villagers. Use his prayer book over the dead villagers to speak his words to the lingering souls.

    If You Get This Step: Target "a dead villager" and right-click the Prayer Book to spawn "a departing spirit"; kill the spirit.

    Thanks, added.

    74 AA's for completion by a level 105 group, on double-XP weekend with LotD running.

    Trap the soul slurpers with Estle's trap and then kill them before they can reach the villagers 0/7 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

    If You Get This Step: Mobs called "a soul slurper" spawn and start walking up the spiral ramp. Kill these mobs. Note that you can use the "Magical Trap" received in the previous step to spawn an aura that freezes the slurpers in place (up to 40 seconds).

    We found the mobs were getting past us up the ramp, where the villagers are "hiding". It doesn't look like the villagers are in any real danger even with the slurpers attacking them. The easiest way to handle this is probably to put your group at the top of the transparent ramp, right in front of the door to the shack up there. Then there's no need to bother "trapping" them. It doesn't appear trapping with the "Magical Trap" device is necessary. You can end up with a lot more than the 7 required for this step. By the time we killed the 7th we had 5 more mezzed and our enchanter had died due to mez resists. We evac'd out, which fortunately drops you right next to Brother Estes. He was busy fighting another soul slurper, but neither was taking any damage. We killed that extra one, dragged and rezzed the enchanter, did our final Hail and finished the mission.

    Composed villages can be carried with the rope all at once before the mobs try to linger around them. Then go to the right place where the graves can be digged. Make one grave after another and run with the corpses over them till they are buried. Only problem is: to be on the right place. Mobs will not attack and linger around the old places where the mobs started to lie around.

    You collect 3, not 4 of each component.

    If you turn in 4 of each item, you won't get the healing poultice and the mission can't continue. I did the first time, quit and restarted. Turned in 3 the second time and the entire group got a healing poultice. there is no limit to how many villagers you heal.

    For the prayer book and praying over the dead, everybody in the group will get the book, just like the healing poultice.

    This is important as if you hand in four, you lose the poltrice. Luckily, its an early step.

    # Jan 22 2014 at 1:43 PM Rating: Good

    The "a vengeful spirit" popped for us. I tracked it thinking it was a PH but imagine our surprise when it dropped Spiritist's Ornate Aegis and also a Bracer of Latent Energy. Yay :)
