Lord Qyzar is standing on the parapet one level up in the SK guild, at +1005, -150. At the end of the previous quest, he mentioned a [matter of betrayal].

You say, 'What matter of betrayal?'

Lord Qyzar says 'One of our agents, a hero by the name of Goxnok, has found evidence that the book entitled 'Charasis' has been taken from this temple and is to be delivered to an unknown foe in the Outlands. Go at once to the lower levels of the temple and greet Goxnok. Hurry, before he departs!'

Drop down to the bottom of the western tower to find an Iksar crusader at +1010, -100, -24.

You say, 'Hail, an Iksar crusader'

an Iksar crusader clicks his heels together at attention. 'Hail, follower of Pain.'

You say, 'What about the Charasis Tome?'

an Iksar crusader says 'The Charasis Tome, the tome of the old city of Charasis. It was taken from this temple and must be returned. The one sent to [apprehend the traitor] who stole the tome must be [ready to depart] with me at once.'

You say, 'I have been sent to apprehend the traitor.'

an Iksar crusader spies the khukri sheath at your side. 'This cannot be. I was told a duke would attend the matter. Still, if the Lords have sent you, then you must be able to complete the task. The [traitor] most certainly must be stopped from delivering the [Charasis Tome]. The [recipients] appear quite formidable and I cannot handle such a deed, not single-handed.'

You say, 'Who is the traitor?'

an Iksar crusader says 'I am afraid I do not know. The babble is that he is from Cabilis, but he could have been a disguised sarnak. Who knows? The tink is that at night within the Outland territory, near the old skinless outpost, they are to meet. We should depart at once. Go get outfitted and let me know when you are [ready to depart].'

You say, 'Who are the recipients?'

an Iksar crusader shows signs of fear and his face turns olive. 'I do not know. The [spider riders]!! I have only heard tales of them from dying lizards. Evil skinless stubs. From the wounds inflicted on the lizards, I can tell they are vicious opponents. Bloated and frayed flesh, disembowelment. Their steeds must have also joined the fray, for some of the victims were covered in webs.'

You say, 'What are spider riders?'

an Iksar crusader says 'As I have reported, the babble states they appear to be skinless stubs who ride giant spiders. Most encounters occur when the moon is high. Little is known about them and only in recent weeks have they begun to appear.'

If you say you will "apprehend the traitor" it will circle back to the first response.

You say, 'I am ready to depart.'

an Iksar crusader slings his pack on his back and locks his sheath. 'Very well. I shall follow shortly. You must depart on your own. Go to the plains of the old skinless outpost. Beware, they have returned and patrol the hillside. Keep an eye on the gates of the outpost. I will be disguised within their ranks, I shall kneel as a sign. Give me this coin as your token.'

You receive A Coin (identifies as "Token of Goxnok").

Head to Firiona Vie to the "good" elf outpost and look for Tracker Azeal at +670, -2380, +173, who is secretly Crusader Goxnok in disguise. You need to be at least level 30 or he won't talk to you. Also you don't want to hail him there because he doesn't want to break cover, but if you do happen to hail him, you'll see:

    You say, 'Hail, Tracker Azeal'

Tracker Azeal looks over at you and gives you an awkward smile, then quickly looks away. You notice he isn't like most of the elves you've seen. You can't quite put your finger on it, but for one thing he smells like he hasn't bathed in weeks.

Shortly before 9 PM game time, he despawns and reappears in a form indifferent to everyone, then walks out of the outpost.

Tracker Azeal says 'I'm going to start my patrol. I'll report back by morning.'

This version appears to have an extra space at the end of his name.

He takes off running toward a spot on the cliffs, then scoots east a short distance and ends up near a boulder at -2560, -1520, where he kneels (the sign he said to watch for). He still doesn't respond to hails. Give him the coin.

Tracker Azeal begins to pull his face off.. it is a disguise!! 'Aha!! You have made it!! I cannot see well in this disguise, but I thought I smelled you. I have [news of the Charasis tome].'

    He respawns as Hero Goxnok.

You say, 'What news of the Charasis tome?'

Hero Goxnok says 'The Charasis Tome has been scribed and now another copy exists. The traitor obviously wants to keep a copy for himself. I am told you will deliver both copies to Lord Qyzar along with your zealot khukri and you shall be awarded that of a crusader. Let us rest for a minute and then I shall show you the meeting place.'

After a moment, he leaves, saying:

Hero Goxnok says 'Come along. If we get separated, look for the humanoid wolf camp and beyond the tunnel, you shall find the meeting place of the spider riders and the traitor.'

After some running, he pauses at -375, -720, +67.

Hero Goxnok stops abruptly and shudders with fear. 'Look!! There, past the wolf people. Near an ancient tunnel can be found the meeting place. I fear we may be too late. I thought I saw a shadow dash from the tunnels, but I did not see any spider riders. We'll see when we reach it'

    After another moment:

Hero Goxnok looks over at you and sizes you up before continuing on. He says, 'We should continue, follow me.'

He runs northeast, cutting across the edge of a drolvarg encampment, and approaches what used to be the drolvarg tunnel but is currently where the good elves hang out. When he reaches +625, -1785, +134, he meets up with a drachnid spy. (Both of them may be on Greenmist faction). Neither of them says anything, but they begin casting various spells: Goxnok casts Grim Aura and summons a pet; the spy casts Skin Like Wood on himself, Goxnok's pet, and Goxnok. You can, of course, attack before they do all this, which might make the fight easier.

You say, 'Hail, a drachnid spy'

a drachnid spy looks upon you with evil eyes and you hear a horrid chatter. Hairs rise from the spider's thorax. 'Greetings, creature. What a fine meal you would make!'

    It attacks.

a drachnid spy says 'You shall not take the tome from me!! I shall snack upon your blood-drained corpse.'

Kill the spy and loot a Charasis Tome, then hail Goxnok again.

    You say, 'Hail, Hero Goxnok'

Hero Goxnok sighs slowly, seeing the confusion on your face. He says, 'Yes, ______, I am the traitor. What I can gain by giving up this tome outweighs any patriotic obligations I may have once had. That city is dead, it is now time for us to grasp at our own destinies. I now give you two choices, Iksar. You can walk away and never speak of this to anyone......or you can die. What will it be?'

It's time to kill him. Beware his Harm Touch.

Hero Goxnok says 'Die by the power of Greenmist!!'

    Once he's dead:

Hero Goxnok's corpse says 'You shall now be a wanted man.. The Union of Vie shall punish you.'

Loot a Charasis Tome Copy. Return to Lord Qyzar and give him both tomes and your Zealot's Khukri.

Lord Qyzar says 'You disappoint me. I must have the Charasis Tome and its copy along with your zealot khukri.'
Lord Qyzar says 'You disappoint me. I must have the Charasis Tome and its copy along with your zealot khukri.'
Lord Qyzar says 'Congratulations! You are now a true crusader, but there is no time for celebration. We have lost two of our operatives. Crusaders Golin and Fodcod were dispatched to seek out an ancient artifact, the [visceral dagger]. Where they have gone, I do not know. They have been gone far too long. Find them and return the dagger to me with your crusader khukri and you shall be a hero.'
Your faction standing with Crusaders Of Greenmist got better.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis got better.
    You gain experience!!
You receive 1 platinum from Lord Qyzar.

There are only two possible zones to this quest.
    Firona Vie and Dreadlands

Firiona Vie is most likely the ticket
remember the clues the crusader gave you
the skinless stubs riding spiders, dark elves riding spiders I.E. Drachnids, the only two zones that drachnids exist in are Dreadlands and Firiona Vie, the Overthere possibility is dead.

Myself and my wife have spent the better part of eight hours watching hailing killing etc every single guard pilgrim scout whatever in the Firiona Vie outpost.

Treekill seems the obvious choice, Treekill? what a strange name for a wood elf ranger but I believe that Verant has screwed his faction table up and made him KoS to iksars. He says to "watch the gates and he will kneel to you as a sign"

Another interesting note about Treekill is the fact that he stops once in a while and spits "some strange seeds out on you sorry", If you remember from the quest previous our friend the Iksar Knight spit flarefire seeds everywhere.

    Coincidence no?

I believe its a matter of time before verant fixes the faction to this quest until then I surmise well just have to be patitent and wait and keep pestering them.

On a side note ive read a few posts talking about dorn and dom and whatever and whoever. Something about dropping a copy of the book? Where does this dorn/dom thing spawn so I can go killit and get up to speed until they fix this part.

Go kill Dorn in North Ro until the Dark elf spy spawns. I think I killed him 4 times before the spy popped (and he pops nearby, although he attacked me before I got to see exactly where he spawned) Anyway...kill the dark elf spy and then a Widow Mite spawns. The widow mite is the mob that drops the copy of the charsis tomb.

Decided I was going to attempt to give the coin to the pleading fellow in the OT bank. Waited until midnight so all the Dragoons were gone and slipped past the golem. Made my way into the bank and warily approached him. To my delight, he didn't attack me and I hailed him. BZZZZZ!!! Wrong! He THEN decides to attack me, forcing me to slaughter his green **** (I'm level 25). Not that we thought this guy was the answer, but now we KNOW he's not.

Has anyone cast identify on the book you get from Dom for turning in the emerald? Maybe that is the real tome and the crusader just points you to Dom for pick up, then again the crusader doesn't even know who the traitor is. I am leaning toward FV as the zone to looking, but not ruling out OT.

I agree with Kodex, spent 2 EQ days in the same place last night and never saw unusual spawn, even invis. There was a group there who was killing the skeles and they told me that they didn't see anything unusual. So, Darxil Flesheater, who is spreading posts in all SK forums claiming the quest has been fixed is a very good liar.
    Enough said. :(

I agree i've spent much time there looking and didn't find anything.Too bad people have to be jerks. If it is in fact fixed then prove it by posting the details.Funny how there were no details posted btw.
    IT HAS BEEN FIXED!
    # Oct 15 2000 at 12:09 AM Rating: Default
IT HAS BEEN FIXED!! A FRIEND OF MINE HAS DONE IT! here is the only tip he would give me.

I believe Dreadlands are where you want to start.
Go to the old ruins near Karnor's, close to the Drachnid webs (described in the quest giver's text) and wait until nightfall.
Make sure you have see invis on as well.

    Good hunting!

Ok..a few questions. What level was your friend when he completed the quest? What are the stats of the new khukri? Stay closer towards Karnor's or the spider's web???

I doubt it is fixed.Everyone is looking so hard for it that news would spread like wild fire.If it is post all the details.Until then i am still a believer in it being broken.

I have been to Karnor's Castle, the ruins, east of it, and the haunted ruins NE of that. Spent 2 EQ days waiting for someone to show up near midnight EQ time and never saw anyone. Another problem is the fact that I don't think the this quest is going to be in a zone that is designed for characters 40 plus. Evidence has been presented to show that the Dagger made in Dalnir may be used for the quest following the "matter of betrayal" and a group of level 35's could finish that task.

    # Oct 18 2000 at 2:14 PM Rating: Default
You say this quest wouldn't be in a 40+ zone? To start with the mobs near this area are 40 MAX, similar to the Overthere where we all think this quest was anyway. Not to mention we all thought you had to invis inside a compound full of level 50-60 NPC's before we heard this info.

Ok...I've finally attempted to locate the kneeling Goxnox with no luck (as have we all) and would really like to know where we can send an email/post to to see if this quest is broken. I was thinking for awhile that Goxnox may be with the Dragoons that come out of the gates at midnight, but no such luck and after 3 nights at the outpost, I've yet to see him. Who do we talk to to see if this part of the quest is even working??

RE: who to hand the coin to
    # Oct 12 2000 at 11:45 AM Rating: Default
I have the coin given by Goxnox, the Iksar crusader that spawnes in the basement. The only Iksar that kneel's when hailed is in the bank in the overthere outpost, his name is "Galdon Vok Nir". He dropps to his knees and pleads. Has anyone tried to give the coin to him? Although he's not in disguise he must be the one. I'm afraid to give him the coin because if im wrong I wont be able to get the coin back. Another thing.. the only Dark Elf outpost in Kunark is the Overthere right? Firona Vie is High Elf. If "skinless stubs riding spiders" are dracnids then skinless stubs are obviously Dark Elf's. So the overthere is the only choice.

Many Many times I have looked near the gates for Goxnox but alsa no luck. The Iksar Galdon Vok is Kos to my Ik Sk so I don't beleave thats Gox. As far as the coin goes. You can return to Goxnox in the tower and start the quest over and get another coin.

    # Oct 11 2000 at 10:33 PM Rating: Default
stupid question...where does the very first crusader (the one in the basement) spawn? In the corridors before the broken bridge? Down in the pit? I've tried to locate him and got nothing... Not what I'd call an auspicious beginning to a quest. :)
    RE: the first crusader
    # Oct 12 2000 at 11:29 AM Rating: Default
After you talk to Qyzar, he tells you to go to the basement, go down the tower on the same side that qyzar is and a crusader will be there.
Anyone still working on this quest?
    # Oct 03 2000 at 10:15 PM Rating: Decent
I just finished the last quest and am about to begin this one...not many posts in here, is there any new info, or at least confirmed info to report? Someone mentioned there was a problem with the quest...is it still not working? Just wondering, before I spend hours on something impossible to obtain.

Has anyone checked the ruined building in overthere full of skeletons? Quest mentions an old skinless outpost, dont be so narrow-minded to only consider the DE post in overthere and the one in FV. I was at that building way back with some friends killin skellies and I seem to remember one of the skeletons acting oddly, didnt know about quest so I disregarded it.
Just a possibility and merely wanted to point out that "skinless outpost" could be many things.

Ran into an enchanter visiting Kunark that had found the tome on Dorn.
Travelled to Oasis to verify this and killed Dorn. You have to kill the on that turns into a dark elf spy. He had the tome on him. I handed this in, but got a ..."I am disappointed. I need you to hand in the tome, the copy, and your Khukri. Still no idea of how to find Goxnok kneeling.
    RE: Quest
    # Oct 11 2000 at 11:19 PM Rating: Default
You say that the book was dropped by the spy, but a post under Dorn (in the N Ro bestiary) says that the book is dropped by the spider that spawns after the spy has been killed. Please verify that the book was dropped by the spy and not the spider. If a book is dropped by both, it could be possible that one is the original and one is the copy, although that seems almost too easy...you figure we'd have to run around a bit more than that...
    RE: Quest
    # Sep 01 2000 at 11:12 AM Rating: Decent
Dorn is the first of 3 spawns that will result in the tome, if Identified you learn that this is the copy.

I believe the coin is to be given to our contact (the one disguised and that will kneel), in order to learn the next step to finding the Original Tome. This step has yet to be completed, and is in reveiw by Verant.

The Iksar at the Overthere outpost doesn't kneel, he emotes /plead. I think he's not the one. Also, there are no Drachnids in Overthere.

Has anyone tried the old Empire Outpost in the Dreadlands? There are Drachnids in that zone too. I've not been able to find the Contact in Firiona Vie, although the one called Treekill seems a strange name for a Ranger.

Just some thoughts from a rambling Enchantress (and sometimes a Zealot Crusader)
    RE: Quest
    # Sep 05 2000 at 6:32 AM Rating: Default
    Well, here are my thoughts;

    1. I agree that Treekill is an odd name for a druid/ranger wood elf type. He goes through the area right next to Lake zone and kills all sorts of spiders. He is evidently involved in the Burynai Bundt Cake quest. I'm not sure if this disqualifies him or not.

    2. There is a guard who I have seen out in this area who is one of the high-elf guards. His name was guard Fandan and he was also killing spiders. Hailing him with my barbarian shaman got a statement about a giant toothpick, which also appears to be a quest involving shamans in Cabilis west who can get a piercing weapon for combining bonechips with granite pebble (not sure this has anything to do with it either though).

    3. I think Overthere is a dead end. It's been picked over and there are no drachnids. Hence the only other skinless out post is Firiona and I think one of the two above must spawn at the time you tell Goxnox "you are ready".

I have yet to have someone in position to verify this yet though as I have yet to find the iksar knight to turn in my spells to get the chalp diagram yet. Grr.

You could consider that DorN rides on the back of a spider in as much as he eventually spawns a spider. I think that it is just part of the surounding story. My theory, for what it is worth is that the bookseller DoM, in the Overthere city, has the tome but at what stage. No one has tried killing DoM enough times to see whether anything spawns, as per DorN. That is one approach. The other is that the person you give the coin to has to be very close by and when you give him the coin he says something to the effect that you have to rush and kill DoM because he is about to transfer the tome to the enemy. The proffering of the coin causes DoM to have the tome in other words. This is similar to other quests. Probably when you kill DoM you find out about DorN. Perhaps the kneeler tells you, perhaps DoM tells you. Perhaps there is a note on DoM that is triggered by the same action of giving the coin to the kneeler. The similarity (especially) in lower case between Dorn and Dom is too much in my opinion to be a coincidence.

There is an iksar in the evil outpost in Overthere that kneels when you hail him...
    What I've tried
    # Jul 11 2000 at 1:30 AM Rating: Decent
    My discoveries/theories:

    1. When you hail Goxnok, he says he was expecting a Duke. I
consider this pretty convincing evidence that this is the "Duke's Khukri"
    quest.
    2. He mentions that the traitor is taking the tome to the spider riders,
which he calls "skinless stubs riding spiders". These can only be
    drachnids.
    3. The place where you are to meet him must be either Fironia Vie or
Overthere, I would assume, but I have been unable to make any headway.
I managed to get to the Dreadlands zone in Fironia Vie, where I conned
Sergeant Greenblade, Private Goldtouch, and Private Blackbark. They're
clearly not the ones we're supposed to be looking for.
    4. Goxnok is supposed to "kneel as his sign to you"... how on earth is
this implemented? Goxnok also tells you to "watch the gates". So
somewhere someone comes out of the gates and kneels... or is already
at the gates and kneels. Has anyone ever seen a random spawn or
    a gate guard kneeling?

    No progress here....
