Call of the Forsaken Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor
About Heroic Adventures
- Heroic adventures in Call of the Forsaken scale in level: As low as Level 75 and up to current maximum level.
- Scale is based on the highest level player present in the zone and affects difficulty, loot quality, and mob levels.
- There is some variation/randomization in the task steps you'll be assigned as you progress through the task.
- Time of completion will vary by your group's makeup (anywhere from 30-90+ minutes).
- Collection items appear as ground spawns midway through tasks (you'll see an emote indicating their appearance).
- Named mobs (or their PHs) spawn midway through tasks (usually, but always, at the same time collection items appear).
- These tasks have individual 3-hour lockout timers (timer gained upon completion).
Experience in Heroic Adventures
- Mobs in these instances grant some experience, but the bulk of experience is earned upon task completion.
- As of a patch in November 2014, less difficult tasks were tuned to reward less experience and more difficult ones were tuned to reward more.
- For an added experience bonus, check out Guard Hamarn's "Daily Tasks".
This is a heroic adventure (1-6 players) that begins with Captain Russell Cooper (click for map) in the Dead Hills. He is located at about -845, -345, 65 (in the clearing north of the zone-in/dock area).

TASK IN DETAIL
========================================================================
TRIGGERING THE TASK
========================================================================
You say, 'Hail, Captain Russell Cooper'
Captain Russell Cooper says 'Another bright-eyed recruit, eh? Well ya might as well get to [work]. I'd give ya the grand tour but there's too much to be done in too little time. Maybe if ya survive yer first assignment, we'll have more to discuss.'
You say, 'What work?'
Captain Russell Cooper says 'Just head that way 'til ya meet up with Scout Lienweathar. He'll be standing by the makeshift ladder.'
You have been assigned the task 'Clearing a Path'.
If the expedition of archaeologists and scouts it to have any luck reaching the Qeynosian ruins, they are going to need your help clearing a path through the unforgiving terrain. Meet up with Scout Adam Nevins and work with him to clear a path through the hostile flora and fauna. One of our scout leaders forged a path several days ago, but we have not heard back from him in quite some time. Hopefully, he has not fallen victim to the treacherous hills...
Make your way northwest to Scout Gatius Lienweathar, and then click the ladder next to him to zone into the instance.
You say, 'Hail, Scout Gatius Lienweathar'
Scout Gatius Lienweathar says 'Ah, _____, it is good to see you. Just over this ladder is your destination. I'm sure Captain Russell has filled you in on all of the details.'
LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered The Dead Hills.
Scout Adam Nevins says 'Ah good, _____. You're just in time. Scout Leader Zatkin was last reported to have traveled down this path before losing contact. Given the number of beasts that infest the area, it's no wonder he hasn't made it back yet. If you need to return to camp for any provisions then just head back down the road you took to get here.' The half elf's composure wavers for a moment as he sighs, 'I hope Ryan is all right.'
========================================================================
STEP #1
========================================================================
Clear the roadway of rats 0/10 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: Our weaker scouts are finding it impossible to progress any further while being accosted by giant rats. It would be immensely helpful to our cause if you could clear the road of these pox-bearing beasts.
If You Get This Step: Kill any 10 rats along the path.
=====================
Destroy the rat's nests along the road 0/4 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: We need you to clear away any rat's nests you come across as you make your way down the ancient roads toward the ruins.
If You Get This Step: Several "a scavenger nest" lie in your path. Destroying them (damage/spells) spawns 2x "a vicious pup" that are relatively simple kills. Killing these adds isn't required for the task, but they have a large aggro range.
=====================
Kill the undead that are halting the scouting party's progress 0/10 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: The scouting party's progress into the hills has hit its first stumbling block. It seems the spirits that still inhabit the ruins aim to keep intruders out of their home. The spectres have proven too strong for our party to take on alone, so we need your help in clearing a path so we can move forward.
If You Get This Step: Kill any 10 undead mobs. Note that the fallen disciples seem to put out the most DPS (flurries). Mobs here hit for a max ~13,000 (blue cons) to ~15,500 (yellow cons).
========================================================================
STEP #2
========================================================================
Collect substance samples from the local oozes 0/5 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: We have heard reports that aberrations of caustic acid have come to life and are devouring any foreign creature that crosses their path. If we are to understand how to combat these sentient slimes we will need substance samples so we can formulate weaponry and antidotes. Dispose of any oozes you come across and collect samples for testing.
If You Get This Step: Kill "a _____ muck" mobs until you've collected 5x "Ooze Sample". These are uncommon drops.
=====================
Obtain Necromantic Samples for later study 0/5 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: A number of the undead inhabitants found in the hills radiate with increased power. It would be helpful to our cause if you could collect samples of whatever it is that is empowering these undead as you are clearing the path toward the tower.
If You Get This Step: Kill undead mobs until you've collected 5x "Necromantic Sample".
=====================
Collect samples of Floral Animating Force 0/5 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: ?
If You Get This Step: Kill ivymaws and mantraps until you've collected 5x "Floral Animating Force".
========================================================================
STEP #3
========================================================================
Inspect the remains of ancient Qeynosian weaponry 0/5 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: ?
If You Get This Step: You'll find decaying weaponry around the area. Get close to them, /target them, and do "/inspect" (can be done with all forms of invis without breaking it).
=====================
Inspect the remains of ancient Qeynosian fishing boats 0/5 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: As you make your way through the hills, inspect the remains of any fishing boats the ancient Qeynosian expedition party may have build while trying to survive here.
If You Get This Step: You'll find rickety vessels around the coastline of the water in the zone. Get close to them, /target them, and do "/inspect" (can be done with all forms of invis without breaking it; note, however, that ooze mobs see invis).
=====================
Inspect the remains of ancient Qeynosian pottery 0/5 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: As you make your way through the hills, inspect the remains of pottery the ancient Qeynosian expedition party may have built while trying to survive here.
If You Get This Step: You'll find supply urns around the area. Get close to them, /target them, and do "/inspect" (can be done with all forms of invis without breaking it).
========================================================================
STEP #4
========================================================================
Clear a path along the route to Scout Zatkin 0/10 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: We fear our Scout Leader may have fallen prey to the innumerable dangers in these hills. If he is still alive, then the beasts of the hills must have him trapped. Dispose of any creatures found near the end of this leg of the trail so that he can return back to camp.
If You Get This Step: Clear mobs from the path northwest of the Scout Leader's location. Only mobs in this relative area count towards this step.
=====================
Search through the containers near the end of the route 0/5 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: As you make your way down the road in search of our Scout Leader keep an eye out for any supplies that may have been abandoned. Collect them as you progress, they will be invaluable to the scouting party that follows in your steps
If You Get This Step: Open the Small Supply Cache via /open
=====================
A spectre blocks your path! Defeat Commander William Helsel 0/1 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: It seems that our Scout Leader is unable to return to us because of a fearsome spectre that haunts the road. Clear the final leg of this path by putting the ancient Qeynosian spirit to rest.
If You Get This Step: Kill the named mob "Commander William Helsel". This seems to be a standard undead mob with a bloated amount of hitpoints (~5.5 million). No AEs or adds.
========================================================================
STEP #5
========================================================================
Speak to Scout Leader Ryan Zatkin 0/1 (Dead Hills)
Task Window Says: Meet up with Scout Leader Ryan Zatkin and work out what must be done next.
If You Get This Step: Hail the Scout Leader to complete the task.
You say, 'Hail, Scout Leader Ryan Zatkin'
Scout Leader Ryan Zatkin says 'Fine work clearing the road there...' He pauses and looks panicked as he realizes that he does not know your name, '_____.' He smiles, reassured that he tip-toed gracefully around that faux pas. He continues, 'So the scouts thought I was dead? I'm surprised they had so little faith in me that they elected me leader and yet don't have the confidence that I can survive my job.' He laughs, thinking himself to be the most hilarious speaker around. 'No matter then. Thank you for your efforts. This stone should take you back to camp. I'll be along shortly to brief the officers on what I've found.'
We are relieved to hear that Ryan is alive and well. The information he gathered will be invaluable in our efforts to push forward and discover the mystery of these ruins. The entire crew is grateful for your valiant effort today.
