Call of the Forsaken Info & Guides: Overview | Progression & Task List | Raiding | Visible Armor

This task is the second in a series of three. It begins with Commander Galenth (click for map image) in the Ethernere Tainted West Karana. He is located in the northeastern part of the zone.

Pre-Requisites for Requesting:
- Level 95
- Completed "Overcoming the Cataclysm"

You say, 'Hail, Commander Galenth'

Commander Galenth says 'Are you a slayer of dragons? Don't lie to me! Your fancy dress tells the truth better than your mouth! We have problems here, problems bigger than burnt homes and stranded settlers: problems with bigger teeth. No, I heard of your work, how you coddle the civs. You'd be more fit as a [worshiper] of dragons than a slayer of them!'

You say, 'A worshiper?'

Commander Galenth says 'You disagree? I mark you unfairly? Twenty years in the guard, and you learn how to judge a man. You learn that most are weak, that they'll sell themselves to anything that gives them a warm bed, warm soup, and a mind free of worries and thoughts. You learn that fancy folks in fancy dress are [followers], not fighters!'

You say, 'Followers?'

Commander Galenth says 'And that's why I'll use you. You're gonna follow me, and you're gonna convince those cultists you follow the dragon. You can follow [instructions], too, can't you?'

You say, 'Instructions?'

Commander Galenth says 'Your dress isn't fancy enough, and those dragon lovers aren't gonna embrace you and seat you at the right claw of their scaly god the first time you bend a knee! Thievery is in order. Either you [help] and show you're worth something, or I'll find another silk-pantalooned dandy to do the deed!'

You say, 'I suppose I'll help...'

Commander Galenth says 'Good. You're gonna steal one of their fancy cloaks from their supply crates or barrels, and then you'll listen in on the resurrectionist ceremonies. I need to know what these dragon lovers are planning!'

You have been assigned the task 'Not of This World'.

Commander Galenth has asked you to learn more about the Doomscale cultists and their connection to the dragon.

Find a ritualist robe in one of the cultists' barrels or crates 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: You need to find a robe to disguise yourself as a cultist. You can probably find one in barrels or crates owned by the cultists. But be careful they aren't around to see you stealing their goods!

Loot a "Cloak of the Doomscale Ritualist" from one of the barrels or crates (does not always drop) in the northeastern part of the zone (click for map image -- just south of the portal area and Lady Lendiniara). Note that the Doomscale NPCs in the area may attack you when you do this.

Get close to the resurrectionists and listen to them while wearing the robe you stole 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Wearing the robe, get near the resurrectionists and listen to their chants.

This update is around /location -1115, -4150, -471. Stand in the middle of the resurrectionist circle and click the robe for the update.

Wearing the cultist robe, you pass as one of them and hear them chanting, 'Powers beyond Norrath, shrouded creatures beyond the veil of death, hear us! Release unto us the souls of the once-living. Return to this world the ones who wait in the gray that they might guide us into realms beyond, realms revealed by the Dragon of Doom!' You see the souls of dead appearing and disappearing from the vents connected to otherworldly places.

an unstable spirit appears out of the mist.
an unstable spirit decoheres and returns to the mist.
an unstable spirit dissipates.

Speak with Commander Galenth 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Tell Commander Galenth what you have discovered.

You say, 'Hail, Commander Galenth'

Commander Galenth says 'My fancy chum, back once more! What a fine follower you make! A place beyond the grave? So the dragon comes from a land of the dead...monstrous! The sooner we strike, the sooner we save these lands! But the troops aren't going anywhere until we secure more knowledge about the dragon and its lovers. Sorkins went southwest to the farms to follow the cult, but he hasn't reported back. Find that dog and make sure he hasn't deserted, and collect what knowledge you can!'

Speak with Guard Sorkins 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: The cultists also have plans for the southern regions of West Karana. Find Guard Sorkins and get his report on what's happening.

Guard Sorkins and Henina Miller are found in the far south-central boundary of the zone (click for map image).

You say, 'Hail, Guard Sorkins'

Guard Sorkins says 'I know, I know: Galenth waits on my report! I followed a group of cultists and overheard them talking about sacrificing souls in order to gain more power in the other world. But I can't just leave now! Henina will tear my arm out of the socket! Apparently her boys have disappeared, and one was taken by the group of cultists. See if you can calm her down!'

Speak with Henina Miller 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Cultists have kidnapped Henina's son. Ask her what happened.

You say, 'Hail, Henina Miller'

Henina Miller says 'Thank goodness you're here! This Sorkins fellow is worthless! I've told him a dozen times to go get [Furball] back, but he just makes excuses about needing to brief his commander! He's nothing better than a coward! I told him about my plan to use the scarecrows to make a bomb, but not even that would give him courage!'

You say, 'Furball?'

Henina Miller says 'Yes, my son! Well, he's my adopted son, but I love him just as much as Cleet Jr. or Tiny! A group of cloaked villains passed through the flames and grabbed Furball while we were searching for some of our lost belongings. If only the rest of the [family] were here, we'd get the job done ourselves!'

You say, 'Where is your family?'

Henina Miller says 'Cleet and Tiny set off to Qeynos to get help a few days ago, and I haven't seen them since. I hope they're okay! Cleet Jr. and Furball stayed here to protect the farm, but Cleet Jr. just couldn't sit still. He's wandered off to find the find the Qeynos guard and join them. That boy just thinks about fighting all day and never listens! A fat lot of good the Qeynos guard has been doing anyway! We really need your help, _____! If you can bring me some pumpkin pieces from those flaming jacks, I know a little secret [recipe] that will make this easier.'

You say, 'What about that recipe?'

Henina Miller says 'Well, I did say it's a secret, but I know that if you bake some pieces of flaming wisp lightstones into a pie, those cultists will be in for a treat! Go to it, please! Bring me those pumpkin pieces, and save Furball!'

Collect Flaming Pumpkin Pieces from the flaming jacks 0/7 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Henina Miller wants you to rescue her son, Furball, and she has a plan. She has asked you to collect Flaming Pumpkin Pieces from the flaming jacks so that she can bake them into an explosive pie.

In the south-central part of the zone, find and kill scarecrow mobs until you've looted seven items. These are average mobs, hitting for a max ~13,000 (mezzable; stunnable).

Deliver 7 Flaming Pumpkin Piece to Henina Miller 0/7 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Give the Flaming Pumpkin Pieces to Henina Miller so she can make the pie.

Henina Miller says 'That's everything I need! You're so kind and helpful! You know, it almost feels like I've met you before, but my memory isn't as good as it used to be. Anyway, I cooked this up nice and fresh in those coals over there. It'll give those cultists a real kick!'

You receive a "Jack Bomb".

Throw the Jack Bomb at Ritualist Danin and his followers 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Find Furball Miller and throw the Jack Bomb on Ritualist Danin and his followers.

Get close to Ritualist Danin (click for map image), target him, right-click the Jack Bomb, then left-click anywhere within the Ritualist's general area:

a Doomscale ritualist outstretches his hand towards the Dragon.

Ritualist Danin falls to the ground, scorched by the exploding pumpkin. As his life fades, his voice rasps, 'Now my brethren and I shall be the sacrifice! We travel to the gray, the space unseen by gods and mortals. We make way for all who follow, for all of Norrath that shall be swallowed! The dragon will claim her brood and secure them in the gray for all eternity.'

Speak with Furball Miller 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Tell Furball Miller that he is safe.

Furball Miller (click for map image) is found at the bottom of the lava fall in the central part of the zone.

You say, 'Hail, Furball Miller'

Furball Miller says 'BARK! Thank you, _____! I thought I was going to be skinned, cooked in lava, and eaten! They kept talking about bleeding this world and offering its life to the dragon. Our blood would secure their place in the world between worlds. It's crazy, bark! Is mother alright? She must be worried! I can get back from here, _____. I'm worried about Cleet Jr., though! He went southwest, chasing after cultists and following some guard name Wagsley, trying to find adventure. He's not cut out for that, bark! Go find him!'

Speak with Guard Wagsley 0/1 (Ethernere Tainted West Karana)

Task Window Says: Cleet Miller, Jr. wants to join the Qeynos Guard and has run after a guard named Wagsley. Find Wagsley and discover where Cleet, Jr. has gone.

Guard Wagsley (click for map image) is found in the southwestern part of the zone.

You say, 'Hail, Guard Wagsley'

Guard Wagsley says 'Cleet Miller, Jr.? Yeah, I've heard of him. He's that stupid boy right over there! Got himself run up the tree by those glowing ghastlies! I would just hoof it back to camp, but I kind of feel bad leaving a kid behind who's been crying for his mommy for over an hour. But look at the size of those creatures! I'm not going anywhere near 'em! What, are you going to do something?'

You have discovered that the Doomscale cultists are trying to lower the barrier between the world of Norrath and the threshold of the afterlife. In the process, you saved Furball Miller from being sacrificed. However, Cleet Miller, Jr. is still in quite a predicament.

Bah! The Jack Bomb is not a group update.

This sucks. So a group has to wait for the respawn (5-10 min) then do it each time.

Also, a root MAY attack you after the ritualists die.

Also, also, I had to disband for the second group member's bomb to explode. The others worked OK.

Make sure you get close enough to throw the bomb. They don't aggro.

Ritualist Danin didn't despawn when I threw the bomb at him on my main character; instead, he just collapsed to the ground as if dead but never disappeared. On a hunch, I threw a bomb at his prone form with my alt and sure enough, it counted for the step. So while the pumpkin pieces and the bomb updates aren't groupwide, it doesn't seem like you have to wait for the ritualist to stand back up to get that step done for multiple characters. Try throwing bombs at him while he's taking a bomb-induced nap. :D

Flaming Pumpkin Pieces are not a group update. Tedious for a group. Plus the scarecrows are hard to see since they are mostly in the middle of the flames. Respawn rate is kinda slow but not horrible. You won't want to wait for respawn if doing a whole group, though.

First of all, the ritualists were indifferent to my DE SK. I think that's true for all races and classes but not sure.

Second, one char can /open the barrels and crates and bring back robes for everyone. When you give them a robe, the quest updates. This is nice because in case anything went wrong, my SK could FD.

Apparently it won't work if you're on a mount. So dismount then use robe. Maybe lose invis too.

1) use /open on a box or barrel
2) loot it. if it fails, try try again.
3) move to a circle of ritualists
4) use the robe
5) once you see the illusion run in a line from the dragon (near the barrels/crates) back to the quest giver. About halfway to the Commander, you'll get the update.
6) talk to the Commander
7) talk to Sorkins

Illusions can block the illusion that you wear when clicking the robe for the step:

Thank you very much for this post - I was going crazy trying to find the location where the cloak would work for me... never realizing that blocked spells were in a different window and the click wouldn't work for me with an illusion already on. You saved me from further insanity!

after another try, I aimed the cursor at the ground (after having targeted Ritualist Danin, then right clicking the bomb) and was able to successfully get the bomb to go off properly for all toons.

EQ client crashed for all five toons while trying to toss the bomb at Ritualist Danin. Tried again, and EQ client crashed again. I targeted Danin, clicked the bomb, then targeted Danin again and the crash occurred each time.

Hiya
I am at the stage where you toss the bomb at ritualist danin.
I right click the bomb pick it up on cursor and throw it at ritualist.
This crashes my computer. If I try just right clicking and centering target on ritualist and left click nothing happens.
Feeling a little silly atm. Ha anyone else experienced this? It happens on tower and on laptop.

The Jack Bomb is a free-target spell. You don't have to be that close - target Danin, click the bomb, and then choose where to aim it.
