You may find Shakey Scarecrow at the Tagglefoot Farm.

You say, 'Hail, Shakey Scarecrow'

Shakey Scarecrow rustles and looks up at you in acknowledgment.

Reebo Leafsway shakes his head sadly. 'Poor old [Shakey] just isn't what he used to be.'

You say, 'Who is Shakey?'

Reebo Leafsway says 'Shakey is our protector and friend. He is just getting old. Losing his [stuffing]. His [head] is getting very cracked and dry as well.'

You say, 'Stuffing?'

Reebo Leafsway says 'The hay he requires is difficult to obtain. It must have been harvested from the Plains of Karana, then cursed by a high priest of the Faceless, [Cazic-Thule]. Finally, you must cast the hay and a flask of blessed Oil of Life into an armorer's forge. Only then will the hay be ready. We Stormreapers will reward you greatly if you could accomplish this task. Remember, you must give the scarecrow stuffing to Shakey only after it has been properly prepared.'

You say, 'Cazic-Thule?'

Reebo Leafsway says 'Cazic-Thule is the dark deity of fear. He is worshiped by many evil beings. There is believed to be a ruined temple dedicated to him deep in the [Feerrott]. That would be a good place to look for one of his high priests.'

You say, 'Feerrott?'

Reebo Leafsway says 'The Feerrott is a vast rain forest in southwestern Antonica. It is home to many lizardman tribes.'

Go to the Western Plains of Karana and find a bump on the fields or follow Cleet Miller around until he drops a bale of hay. Blessed Oil has its own quest. Roror can be found west of the river in the Feerrott, and he wanders erratically.

You say, 'Hail, Roror'

Roror says 'Greeetingsssssssssss. What brings sssssuch asssss you to the heart of the Feerrott? Do you [know fear]?'

You say, 'Yes, I do know fear.'

Roror says 'Yesssss. I can tassssste the fear in your pitiful heart. I am Roror, High Priessst of Cazic-Thule! I sssseek to sssssspread terror acrossssss all of Norrath! I ssssshall let you live thisss day so you can sssshare the fear that liessss within you.'

You say, 'Bless my hay.'

Roror says 'You sssseek the blesssssssing of the Lord of Fear?! Give me what you have and 66 gold pieces as an offering to Cazic-Thule.'

Roror says 'Yesss. But remember, Cazic-Thule demandsssss both the item and 66 gold piecessss assssss an offering.'
Roror says 'Whatsssss thisssss? You sssseek my blessssssssing? Heh heh heh... Very well... CAZIC-THULE! Take this fruit of Karana into horror'sss dark embrace. Fear and death made manifesssssst. A harvesssst of terror! Here, take your gift of blood and sssstraw. Use its dark powersssss in the name of the Fear Lord!'

You receive a Sack of Cursed Hay (identifies as "Straw of Cazic-Thule"). Combine with Blessed Oil in any forge, trivial at 15 (no-fail?). The result is a Sack of Writhing Hay (identifies as "Scarecrow Stuffing") Upon giving this to Shakey:

Your faction standing with Storm Reapers has been adjusted by 25.
Your faction standing with Mayor Gubbin has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Rivervale has been adjusted by 3.
Your faction standing with Unkempt Druids has been adjusted by -3.
You gain experience!
You receive 1 gold from Shakey Scarecrow.

If you say 'I don't know fear' to Roror, he tells you that you soon will and attacks you.

You also receive experience and some money.

bless or curse???

Does it matter if you have it blessed or cursed in trying to get the belt or the harvester?
I only want the belt, and dont need the harvester...

I did it and got the Harvester, did it again and got nothing. I think I'll wait until I get teleport before I go for the belt again.

I play a level 48 halfling druid, and I just did this quest three times. Two of the attempts failed to produce anything at the forge. The other attempt succeeded at the forge, but, as happened to you, Shakey gave back only bread.

After reading the other postings here (thank you Allakhazam for providing this forum!), I'm not encouraged to repeat the quest until I hear some good news about it, either here or from Verant in a patch-related announcement.
Broken

I did the quest 2 times and the first time got Cloth Gloves worth 2gold and the second time got 8 copper!!!! I dont really care because it took me half an hour to complete the quest but However i find it too bad to spend an hour an 2*66gold to get nothing but so few xp that you dont even notice it on the bar....

# Oct 17 2000 at 6:12 PM Rating: Default
I got cloth gloves (Medium! in a halfling city...) for the quest. I petitioned based on some of the info i've seen here and was told to **** off, essentially.

A note on Roror: I've seen him twice in all my characters and always in the same spot. After crossing the Big bridge in Feerott, hang a left and follow the water. At the "wall" of the zone is a pathing used by gators. Sometimes they pile up here because of the strange pathing, and sometimes Roror gets stuck too. This is where I found him again (I tried hailing him and running along with him but it wasn't until he got stuck that he answered).

I'm 15th lvl so I wouldn't say I was massively overqualified for the quest. Especially with a 66gold price tag. This was done on the new server.

THIS QUEST IMHO IS A MASSIVE WASTE OF TIME.

I performed the quest on the 11th and it did not work. The faction with roror is fixed however when I turned everything into Shakey he only gave me 15cp and some exp and faction. I petitioned the issue only to be directed from an assis apprentice to a guide. The guide then informed me to repetion tonight to a full lead gm to solve the problem. I will post the conclusion monday about the quest

#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 2:51 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

There is in erudite on the top floor of the Library in Erudin that gives you a piece of paper regarding scarecrow heads. I've tried bringing that paper back to the quest giver in Rivervale but nothing happened. Perhaps if you give it to Shakey?

got nothing

Boy am I peeved. I spent three days doing this quest and when I gave the writhing hay to shakey I didn't get squat he just beamed a smile at me.
I will petition but i'm not gonna waste more time on this stupid quest.
Epic Quest?
# Sep 23 2000 at 11:47 PM Rating: Default
I have a hunch that this quest has been altered to be the Druid's Epic Quest. Reebo used to stop giving out this quest info at about lvl 15, but now is giving the info to my lvl 20 druid. Also most likely why there is no reward simply for the stuffing, need the stuffing and a head. Just a guese, but when i petitioned i was told the quest was not broken, there was just 'more to it...'

Roror no longer KOS but quest broken?
# Sep 21 2000 at 11:02 AM Rating: Decent
I've completed the quest twice since the patch on the 19th. Roror is no longer KOS, obviously, but both times I turned in the hay to Shakey, all I got was coin and faction. I completed this quest with my level 21 halfling druid and thought maybe I was too high of level to get rewarded with a belt so I tried turning in the stuffing with a level 1 halfling druid as well but still received only coin and faction. Has anyone been able to get a belt of the rivers from this quest since Tuesday's patch?
Thanks guys,
Bimbli

I tried it twice. First time at the forge I was told my skill wasn't high enough. The second time it worked but when I gave it to Shakey, all I got was a smile and some faction changes. A jum jum stalk was nearby, not sure if it had been dropped before though. Not even sure if I got any money.
This sux. I could have spent this time gaining experience. Two more levels and I can group teleport. I'll make some money then and buy what I need.

I did this quest with my LVL 15 Druid and did not get jack.
Shakey beamed a smile at me. WTF, 2 days, 66GP, one
death, is this some kind of a joke!
I travelled the entire continent for this "OK" quest item and
no candy.

I talked to a apprentice guide, guide, and GM. (There is another
2-3 hours gone). Lucky they were cool and gave me my writhing hay back.
The GM said "something appears not right", and that I should "wait
a few patches" before trying it again.

If they changed this into another quest or whatever that is silly.
GIVE US A NEW QUEST! Dont take one away and give another one
what good is that. I doubt this is part of a new quest though as
you dont get anything from Shakey and he says nothing.

BEAMS A SMILE. WTF.
From now on I guess I will accept the fact that quests suck.
I will go back to camping and overcrowding zones.

If they nerfed this quest that is silly, if anything it should net a better
no drop item. It takes so long its not worth the maybe 50PP your gonna
get from the belt. Its not even a good druid item (Shakey is right outside
the Druid guild).

Anyway my rant is done. This was the first time doing the quest and
I am absoultly dissapointed.

NO DROPs and Faction
# Sep 08 2000 at 4:10 PM Rating: Default
Hey there.. I was wondering if anyone knows if any key items in the quest (like, say, the cursed hay or the writhing hay) is NO DROP.. I thought I'd see if I could convince my Cazic-Thule worshipping friend to do the Roror part of the quest.

Thanks

Don't need faction with Cazic-Thule don't think.. I took my Tunare worshipping WE druid into Feerott in wolfform and got my hay cursed/blessed just fine.
Magical hay!
# Sep 01 2000 at 5:36 PM Rating: Default
So I just started this quest last week and have been killing scarecrows in WK left and right and not once gotten some magical hay. (Though, I did get a couple words to the delight of my Necro friend) Has anyone successfully tried this with the hay Cleet Miller drops or should I continue with the scarecrows?
RE: Magical hay!
# Sep 05 2000 at 11:16 AM Rating: Default
I believe that the quest description on this website states that you can use the magical hay that Cleet Miller drops. I also hunted scarecrow for quite sometime and never recieved hay.
RE: Magical hay!
# Sep 07 2000 at 7:29 PM Rating: Default
The hay is found just lying on the ground..it's near the river on the Miller farm.
RE: Magical hay!
# Sep 08 2000 at 7:00 AM Rating: Default
Long time since I did this but I think the item is just called Sack of Hay, but it's desecription states Magic Item. Just in case you were looking for something called "Magical Hay".

There is normally enough of it lying around behind where Cleet has walked. It looks like a normal small/large bag when it's lying on the floor.

GET GOOD VOLEW
# Aug 22 2000 at 3:36 PM Rating: Default
Ok, one guy almost got it right, but kinda screwed up his message.

Killing lizards which lower Taeew and raise Volew is what you want to do. ROROR likes you to have high faction with the Volew. And i dont know what everyone who cant find him is doing, hunt around by #13 on the EQATLAS site. He KOS your *** though, like mine. Kill about 300 lizzies or so, hehe.
Roror faction
# Aug 17 2000 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
Im sure that Roror is part of the We love Zilla guys faction (Allize Volew :) that means the lizzies that are NOT in CT or on the island with the CT entrance (but I think all Mystics are Allize Volew) good slaugthering the CT lizzies ;)
faction?

Did anyone ever settle to faction question? I tried to talk to Roror and he slaughtered me in moments... WHO DO I KILL TO IMPORVE MY FACTION WITH ROROR? please help.

I'm not positive on this one, but I hunted a LOT inside Cazic Thule during my younger days - back when it was populated - and eventually bottomed out my faction with the lizards inside CT. I see Roror running towards PoF sometimes, so perhaps that area might be a good place to look for him. As an agnostic dark elf, he's dubious.

I'm not sure what faction you need for him to give you the hay though.

Roror
# Aug 12 2000 at 10:23 PM Rating: Decent
I couldn't find Roror for the longest time either. Then after days of searching morning, noon and night, he showed up. He still will KOS me even after killing about 30-35 of the lizardmen camped in Feerrott. I'm not sure if I need to kill more of them to improve that faction or if its the lizardmen in CT that I should be going after. I've postponed doing this quest until I can find out more
Roror
# Aug 09 2000 at 4:07 PM Rating: Decent
I've spent days looking for information on Roror's faction, and found no solid info. Even here there are conflicting answers. Inside or outside lizard faction? Roror is easy to find. Go west from the bridge halfway to Rathe Mountains zone boundry. Then go south and track. He will usually always be there. Occasionally he runs north of the bridge, staying on the west side of the river.
But does anyone have information they know is true on what his faction is?

Roror slow to spawn
# Aug 22 2000 at 6:56 PM Rating: Default
Roror is a favorite kill of some ofhte big old ogres in that zone. Once dead he can take a long long time to spawn (I've been told around a week of real time). If I can't find him in a few hours I'll pack it in for a few days and try again.
