You may find Shakey Scarecrow at the Tagglefoot Farm.

You say, 'Hail, Shakey Scarecrow'

Shakey Scarecrow rustles and looks up at you in acknowledgment.

Reebo Leafsway shakes his head sadly. 'Poor old [Shakey] just isn't what he used to be.'

You say, 'Who is Shakey?'

Reebo Leafsway says 'Shakey is our protector and friend. He is just getting old. Losing his [stuffing]. His [head] is getting very cracked and dry as well.'

You say, 'Stuffing?'

Reebo Leafsway says 'The hay he requires is difficult to obtain. It must have been harvested from the Plains of Karana, then cursed by a high priest of the Faceless, [Cazic-Thule]. Finally, you must cast the hay and a flask of blessed Oil of Life into an armorer's forge. Only then will the hay be ready. We Stormreapers will reward you greatly if you could accomplish this task. Remember, you must give the scarecrow stuffing to Shakey only after it has been properly prepared.'

You say, 'Cazic-Thule?'

Reebo Leafsway says 'Cazic-Thule is the dark deity of fear. He is worshiped by many evil beings. There is believed to be a ruined temple dedicated to him deep in the [Feerrott]. That would be a good place to look for one of his high priests.'

You say, 'Feerrott?'

Reebo Leafsway says 'The Feerrott is a vast rain forest in southwestern Antonica. It is home to many lizardman tribes.'

Go to the Western Plains of Karana and find a bump on the fields or follow Cleet Miller around until he drops a bale of hay. Blessed Oil has its own quest. Roror can be found west of the river in the Feerrott, and he wanders erratically.

You say, 'Hail, Roror'

Roror says 'Greeetingsssssssssss. What brings sssssuch asssss you to the heart of the Feerrott? Do you [know fear]?'

You say, 'Yes, I do know fear.'

Roror says 'Yesssss. I can tassssste the fear in your pitiful heart. I am Roror, High Priessst of Cazic-Thule! I sssseek to sssssspread terror acrossssss all of Norrath! I ssssshall let you live thisss day so you can sssshare the fear that liessss within you.'

You say, 'Bless my hay.'

Roror says 'You sssseek the blesssssssing of the Lord of Fear?! Give me what you have and 66 gold pieces as an offering to Cazic-Thule.'

Roror says 'Yesss. But remember, Cazic-Thule demandsssss both the item and 66 gold piecessss assssss an offering.'
Roror says 'Whatsssss thisssss? You sssseek my blessssssssing? Heh heh heh... Very well... CAZIC-THULE! Take this fruit of Karana into horror'sss dark embrace. Fear and death made manifesssssst. A harvesssst of terror! Here, take your gift of blood and sssstraw. Use its dark powersssss in the name of the Fear Lord!'

You receive a Sack of Cursed Hay (identifies as "Straw of Cazic-Thule"). Combine with Blessed Oil in any forge, trivial at 15 (no-fail?). The result is a Sack of Writhing Hay (identifies as "Scarecrow Stuffing") Upon giving this to Shakey:

Your faction standing with Storm Reapers has been adjusted by 25.
Your faction standing with Mayor Gubbin has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Rivervale has been adjusted by 3.
Your faction standing with Unkempt Druids has been adjusted by -3.
You gain experience!
You receive 1 gold from Shakey Scarecrow.

If you say 'I don't know fear' to Roror, he tells you that you soon will and attacks you.

You also receive experience and some money.

I did this quest 5 times today trying to get the wee harvester. I discovered that the trivial level for smithing the hay and oil is 16. I also discovered that asking Roror to "bless" or "curse" the hay doesn't effect which item you will receive. I received the belt three times regardless of which way I asked. One time I was not successful at the smithing (I started the quest at level 14 smith, ended at level 16). The final time I got the harvester. It has 50 charges of summon food. The belts had 17 charges of summon water. I was quickly able to sell the belts for ~100pp each in between each attempt at the quest. (They are lore and I didn't want to risk not getting another from Shakey.) BTW, I found a bag of hay in the Miller's field once but bought it from Cleet Miller (whom I found easily with tracking) the other times for 7 silver. Also, Roror happily accepted 66gp or 6pp & 6gp. Thanks to the Netherus & Bolerro for their posts- I followed them like a map and it worked like a charm!
belt or harvester

i think it would make a difference if u say blessed or cursed just think if u have said cursed u might get the harvester i dont know yet ill try it 2 times and saay two different things but there is always a chance that i might be right and the cleet miller guy he does drop it but a rare spawn some people just pick it up and sell to the little boy, But the point is it does spawn i did this quest on my friends druid and i got the harvester which isnt that great i really want the belt for my rogue +5 str!! thats really uber for a lvl 15 quest and second of all u can get soeone else to do the combining, thats what i did and i got rewarded, the point u avhr to make u have have to be a master at the skill itll work beter instead of wating ur time i am giving them to a guy that has alot of skill points in that skill, GL everyone!
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 17 2001 at 10:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have tried this quest 3 times so far. I got the hay, got it cursed and got the oil. My stupid smithing skill is only 11, and it has failed to produce the hay. It is bad enough this has cost me almost 20pp, but it is more that it is a waste of time. I have wasted all day on this quest and the acolyte quest. Can't find the greenblood zombies in feerott, and I have tracked the entire river most of the day.

There is no need (or way for that matter) to ever recharge it! Unlimited charges = never needing to recharge.

*** I have copied the previous post just to update this since most of it correct...

Firt I went to see Shakey and hailed him. A halfling under the tent named Reebo or something nearby will say Shakey hasn't been himself lately. Talk to him and he'll tell you basically what it says at the top of this webpage. I ran to WEST Karana, and found Cleet Miller(*** Cleet Does not Drop the hay***). The farm is pretty big and there are many of his relatives working there. Location is neg 2000, neg 4400. I followed him around his feild for a while but he dropped nothing. Later, his son, Cleet Miller Jr. came by. He was walking around just the same but unlike his father, he sold the magic hay(*** He does not always sell the hay, he only sells it if he bought it from a player ***). Notice, when you buy it, it only says a sack of hay but right click it and it will say its a magic item, thus Magical Hay. Next, to get the Blessed Oil, travel just outside the Qeynos Hills zone and hail Brother Estle. He will ask you to go to The Temple of Life In Qeynos and find someone. The woman he talks about will not actually give you the Blessed Oil. Just outside the small pool near the temple, there is a guy named Normoe or something. Say "I will deliver the flask" he gives you one. Next you must go to the Feerrott. The easiest way is to get a port. When I got there it was my first time and I noticed a lot of lvl 50+ characters. This scared me a little so I went to eqatlas.com and studied the area. I HIGHLY recommend you do the same. If you study it well enough you can figure out a way to find Roror, I had no trouble finding him. Location was about neg 600, pos 1500. He is a lizard with a wolf pet and he runs around near the river. I gave him 66 gold and the oil (*** Do not give the oil, give the hay ***) at the same time. He gave me the hay back, now cursed. I was bound in Karana so I gated and made the run back to Rivervale. My Blacksmithing skill is at 55 and successfully combined them. It was trivial to me at that skill level. I think many people are making the mistake of giving the result to the halfling. DO NOT GIVE IT TO THE HALFING. Give it to SHAKEY THE SCARECROW. In return he gave me the Belt of the River, an excellent item that you can probably sell for 300pp (*** Sells for around 100-140pp depending on the server ***). It can only be equiped by Halfings though.

That's how I did it and it worked fine. Good luck.

*** Other than that, Netherus is correct on this...
Another note is that Roror will talk to good races... I am a Human Druid and he did not even care... So, Invis is not necessary for him, but is necessary for the Ogre NPC's that are red to me at 20th..

Thanks Netherus for the info...

Only thing I have to add is that the Sack of Cursed Hay and then the Sack of Writhing Hay have the inventory icon of a mail pouch. I was almost panicking after visiting Roror when I couldn't find something that looked like a haysack in my inventory. =)

Cleet does drop the hay. He wanders from one location to another, and stands at each location for a very long time, so it can be a long and tedious wait. Eventually when he moves again from one of these locations there will be a sack of hay where he was standing.

Thanks for the corrections Bolerro. I sold the Belt for 250pp easily. Did the quest two more times. Got the wee harvester twice. Gave one to a friend and sold the next one for 75pp. Oh yeah, every time you look for Roror stay relatively close to the river in the area. Found him three times there.

From reading all the messages it seems to me that people are having problems with this quest. I am a 21 Cleric and it took me about 3 hours of playing to complete it successfully. I am going to post exactly what I did.

Harvester and Belt
# Apr 14 2001 at 11:47 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest several times today, and as noted by someone else, the forging failed every other time. My forging skill is at a measly 6.

My druid is L19, and after running to Feerott the first time, bound near where I found Roror, and TPed back to Commons and Karanas as needed to complete the quest.

The first time failed, second time yeilded the belt, third time failed, fourth time coughed up the wee harvester.

If the summon food effect was unlimited, this might be worth it (I know we have a spell for this, but it's tedious and mana-less food summoning is a plus), but I think the harvester is too slow a weapon to be worth the +3 wisdom. The belt is not bad as an endure cold spell can easily compensate for the loss of cold resistance, and the +5 str and +5 sta are not bad, if you don't have a wisdom enhancing belt.
druid only?
# Apr 14 2001 at 2:11 AM Rating: Default
Is Shakey's stuffing quest only for druids? I kind of did this backwards, because I found some hay in Karana, and what to do with it. When I found out it was for Shakey's stuffing quest, I went to Rivervale to get the quest started, but can't get anyone to give it to me, (hailed Shakey, and all the halflings on the farm). Is it because I'm not a druid?

follow as directed above, the Wee is Druid only and not too good.
I tried a second time to try and get a belt, and got only the faction. No you can`t have 2 lore or anything like that. I think that after it was fixed it is only now the Wee Quest.

Thats not true if you did the quest again and you got the wee again then naturaly its going to disapear. but you might have to do this several times to get the belt. Its a random drop
Not just random, but rare?
# Apr 11 2001 at 2:54 PM Rating: Default
I did this quest 6 times trying to get the belt (bound in Feerrot and gated to Roror). I failed the combine in the forge exactly every other time like clockwork (1,3,5) and got the wee harvestor on try 2, gave it away, got it again on try 4, kept it, and got nothing at all on try 6. I assume because I have the harvestor and it's lore.

If you're doing this quest to try and get the belt be prepared to spend some time and money on it.

Anyone want to buy a Wee Harvestor on Saryn?

Quest works - loot ratio anyone?
# Mar 08 2001 at 3:22 PM Rating: Default
I've done this quest about 5 times now. The ONLY time to do this quest is after level 29. Then all you have to do is port around for your goodies. The longest part is the run from the NK druid ring to the farm for hay, then to Qeynos for the oil near the cleric UFO thingy. After that, just port over to Feerott and make a run to Cazic Thule enterance. Cross the river and Roror always makes a run from one end to the other, so just have your tracking going and you'll find him in no time.
Now my real question is regarding the loot. After porting to misty thicket, I blew my first attempt, scored on the second and got a harvester. Screwed up third attempt, increased my smithing skill to about 8 or 9 and have no problems. Forth attempt yielded another wee harvester, but it was automatically destroyed because I still had my first one in the bank. Gave my original harvester to a friend for safe holding and the fifth attempt got me ANOTHER harvester. Does anyone know the ratio for when you can make the BELT? The only reason I'm doing this quest is for the belt and I keep getting the wee harvester. Thanks.

RE: WHERE THE HECK IS ROROR??????
# Mar 24 2001 at 5:54 AM Rating: Default
I had the same problem - I was wandering in the Feerrott for QUITE some time looking for him - while I was there I noticed a wandering Ogre guard, conned red (tombstone) (lucky me, i have camoflauge =). Ok, wander some more, notice a Lizardman camp. Ok, wander around more, notice that the Lizardmen who had been inhabiting that camp were gone. Strange... After I thought about it for a minute it was clear - the wandering Ogre guard was killing the Lizardmen - and his path from the Oggok gates to the lizardman camp runs smack through - you guessed it - the spot where Roror spawns (approximately -600 1500) - He was killing Roror as he spawned... Now how to get around this, I have no clue - by the time I'm level 60 and able (with a group) to take out an Ogre guard, the quest reward will seem, in comparison to the gear I hope to have by then, like a pile of crap. Anyone else encounter this problem, or know how to get around it??
RE: WHERE THE HECK IS ROROR??????
# Mar 30 2001 at 1:35 PM Rating: Decent
Hmmmm, my druid has done this quest many times. I have not done it in maybe a month or more, but before that, Roror was always to be found. He is very high lvl and has a pet, so I doubt a ogre guard could even kill him. As I said, before he was always to be found, he had a set route he wandered along and was usually found at a spot near the water (cant remember the loc unfortunately. I tried to do the quest today and could not find him anywhere after wandering all over the zone for at least 30 min and yelling to everyone. I have never known the guards to kill him before, but maybe something was 'fixed' in one of the recent patchs, or Roror himself is broken. Oh well, I'll keep looking later I guess.

# Jan 23 2001 at 6:17 PM Rating: Default
Well, firstly, I think that the rewards for doing the quest have been swapped since the quest was fixed. It used to be the Belt was the common reward and the Harvester the rare. However this now seems for me to be the other way around. - I've had about a dozen Harvesters and no Belt.I sell the Wee Harvester for 50 or 60pp as that doesn't seem unreasonable.

If you get a Belt I'd suggest you don't sell it for less than 300/400pp (if I'm right that it's rare!). Don't let anyone try and buy it for some feeble amount.

I took a friend along for the trip the second time and when forging i got the dreaded message "you lack the skills" this happend the next four times so far. I have increased smithing each time in hopes of making forging the hay again. Any suggestions?

curse/bless result
# Dec 15 2000 at 12:37 AM Rating: Decent
I don't know if this mattered any in the results, but here is what I did:

I just completed the quest twice. First time through, I got the hay, then the oil, then asked Roror to "bless my hay". I forged the 2 parts together easily (my bs skill isn't very high and it was already trivial to me). I turned in the writhing hay and got - Belt of the River - which I gave away to a newbie halfling druid in town since I'm a woodelf :)
Second time through I got the oil, then the hay, then asked Roror to "curse my hay". Forged the parts together and gave the writhing hay to Shakey and got - Wee Harvester.
Don't know without at least another test if curse/bless works every time.
Worst part of the whole quest is waiting for Cleet to drop some straw... argh!

I have done the quest a total of 4 times, and have only gotten the Wee Harvester, and have asked to both bless and curse. I am trying to get the belt but have been unsuccessful.
Forging the Hay and Oil
# Dec 12 2000 at 8:10 PM Rating: Default
I have just tried to do this quest twice. First time I was level 8 (druid) and bought 21 ranks in Blacksmithing. Stuck the oil and cursed hay into the forge beside the druids guild in Rivervale and got "You lack the skill to combine the items". Crap.

So I do the whole quest over again (another 3 hours) after getting my Blacksmithing up to 40 (I'm level 9 now) and I stick the Hay and Oil into the forge, click 'combine' only to get the same message.

/petitioned a GM and he said something like "There is always a chance of failure". I've read of guys doing this quest with only 2 to 8 points in Blacksmithing. Am I missing something? Do you have to be a certain level?

Please help.

I've come to the conclusion that sometimes individual characters simply suck at doing things. I had a 60 in smithing, and was still often failing at forging studs, a mere 25 SR.
yes, there always IS a chance for failure--but if those are the odds, I'd say something is screwed up.

Agreed, my tailoring is level 29... Leather padding is trivial at 31, and I fail approximately 75% of the time. I make a lot of leather padding, so that percentage isn't based on just a few attempts. As far as there being a level requirement, i'm not sure if there is one, and if so, what level it is. Hail Shakey, if another npc (Reebo or Unar) makes a comment about him, you're good to go - if not, there may be a level requirement on the quest, and that may be why you failed at combining. Or, you might just have horrible luck like me :P
