You need Inky Silk (tailoring skill), Sceptre of Tears (ground spawn in Lower Guk), Hand of Shadow (from Shadowed Men), and Skeletal Finger (from giant skeletons in Rathe Mountains);

You say, 'Hail, Syllina'

Syllina says 'Hello, I am Syllina, follower of Solusek Ro and keeper of the [shadow lore].

You say, 'shadow lore'

Sylinna says 'I hold the secrets to the shadow lore so highly prized by necromancers. If you are interested, I can tell you about [Shadowbound Boots], [Shadowbound Gloves], the [robe of Enshroudment] or the secrets to the making of [shadow silk].

You say, 'Shadowbound Gloves'

Syllina says, 'Shadowbound Gloves are gloves woven from the purest shadow. If you are interested, I will weave you a pair - but I will need [glove components].'

You say, 'glove components'

Syllina says 'I will need the following items to make you a pair of Shadowbound Gloves: inky shadow silk, the Scepter of Tears from the circle-stair waterfall of Guk, a hand of shadow from our mortal enemies, the shadowed men, and a skeletal finger from a Rathe giant skeleton.'

You say, 'shadow silk'

Syllina says 'If you are interested, I will tell you the secrets of making shadow silk for a mere 50 pieces of gold.'

No experience or faction for giving her the money. 5 platinum works too. After handing her the cash:

Syllina says 'You will need to give the following components to a tailor: a shadow wolf pelt, a silk swatch and a scroll of Gather Shadows. Have the tailor weave them together, and she will make you shadow silk. To make large shadow silk, add an extra shadow wolf pelt. To make inky shadow silk, add an extra scroll.'

After handing in Scepter, Skeletal Finger, Inky Shadow Silk, and Hand of Shadow:

Syllina says 'Solusek Ro does not believe in half measures.'
Syllina says 'Solusek Ro does not believe in half measures.'
Syllina says 'Solusek Ro does not believe in half measures.'
Syllina says 'So you have gathered all of the components for me to weave Shadowbound Gloves... Well done. You will be wanting these.'

Your faction standing with Shadowed Men has been adjusted by -1.

Here is the recipe for all three pieces of this set: (Rumor has it it's trivial mid 40ish tailoring....fyi)

Shadow Silk

1 Shadow Wolf Pelt
1 Silk Swatch
1 Scroll of Gather Shadows

Large Shadow Silk

2 Shadow Wolf Pelts
1 Silk Swatch
1 Scroll of Gather Shadows

Inky Shadow Silk

1 Shadow Wolf Pelt
1 Silk Swatch
2 Scrolls of Gather Shadows
Guk Scepter not need
# Jul 29 2003 at 9:47 PM Rating: Decent
For the gloves you do not need the Scepter. You turn in 4 items only. Scepter from Mistmore, Fingers from Giant Skels in Rathe Moutains, Hand of Shadow from The Shadow Men (no rent so get it last. In Lesser Faye is a good place.) and the Inky Silks which is a pain for all the peices as the wolves are easy to kill, but not so easy to find. Having a ranger friend makes that part much easier.
Scepter

Do you have to identify the scepter in order for the quest to work or can you hand it in w/o identifying it?
RE: Scepter
# Mar 31 2002 at 11:29 PM Rating: Excellent
Hey.

You can just hand it in. The reason for identifying, is that if you're doing the other ShadowBound armour quests, you'll have a couple of sceptres. Other than identifying, you can't tell the difference between 'em.

Identifying doesn't do anything to change the sceptres, so it's not necessary, per se. Also, Syllina doesn't actually care what order you give her the stuff. So if you had the items for all three pieces of armour, you could hand them in all higgledy piggledy and you'd get each piece when she gets the last component.

Having said this, getting the piece from Guk for the robe is Hellish, until way past the point you're likely to use it. Added to which, the Nokta shaman doesn't spawn more than maybe fifty percent of the time and only has the sceptre rarely! (I must've killed him a coupla times. Yet, still I've never gotten a Globe of Shadow! Curses! Curses, I say. Ah well.)

Hope this helps.

AlAaraaf.

Reading what this quest says you need on here and reading the comments greatly confused me, so i went to Everlore, read some posts there, and did the quest myself. Here is what you need for the Shadowbound Gloves:

-Inky Shadow Silk
-Scepter of Tears (Scepter from Lower Guk behind waterfall)
-Hand of Shadow
-Skeletal finger

The Scepter used for the Shadowbound Boots quest looks exactly the same except that it's ID'd as Scepter of Sorrow instead of Scepter of Tears, and that one is found in Mistmoore when you give the flower on the coffin to the named shadowed man behind the crypt, and both scepters can be carried in inventory at the same time (I am doing it right now). Hope this clears up the confusion!
About items with exactly the same name

There are plenty of examples of items w/ the same name but are actually different items. The one that comes to my mind the quickest is Rune of Ivy. There are actually four of these and tho they are lore you can have all four of them, the trick for these is to use the Identify spell to know which is which (It also can help to know which Mob you looted it off of cuz the ones that drop these always drop the same one) There is also a quest for Iksar Shaman that requires 10 skulls can't remember the exact name but there are actually 2 types for this item too. The names are the same but one type is lore and the other is not and you need 9 of the non-lore and one of the lore - same name but different items. Also there is a foraged item called Drachnid Silk foraged in the Dreadlands and Firiona Vie, some that you forage are droppable, some are not. One type is used for a quest for Iksar Warriors I think.

Yep. I confirmed it Saturday. The Mistmore scepter and the Lower Guk Scepter are in fact 2 distinct items.
So much confusion!

I am pretty sure that the two scepters are in fact the same item. There is also similar confusion on many of the Solsek Ro quest items including the Globe of Shadow and Glowing Mask. Currently I have almost all the Necro quest items (except the Shadow Man drops) and as soon as I get everything I am heading to Solsek. The scepter I have is the one from the Shadow man in Mistmore. Coincidentally I just finished the following post on on the Robe of Enshroudment board, and I will try the same thing with the Mistmore scepter when I go for my gloves.

"Can the Shadowman Globe of Shadow be used?????

Well I am going to find out. I don't know why no one else tried this, but just bring a globe of shadow and try handing it in. If it can be used you will get the response "Ro does not accept half measures...." This implies that you have given one of the proper quest items. If you get a reply something to the effect of "I don't know what to do with this, but thanks" it means you are handing in the wrong item.

I am inclined to think that either globe will work. There is a similar situation with the enchanter incandescant, and wizard acumen masks. They require a Glowing mask as one of the quest items. There are 2 creatures that drop a glowing mask: a skeletal monk and a Froglok Scryer. Either mask will work. Also, I cannot think of any other items off the back of my hand that have the exact same name, but are not the same item. There are lots of items with similar names that cause much confusion (i.e. diamond dust, crushed dust), but does anyone know any examples of names that are exactly the same?"

No. The Scepter of Tears is in a little room above the waterfall at the north end of Lower Guk. If you aren't KoS to the Live frogs (or use Gather Shadows or similar), you can easily get it by zoning in near the Ancient Croc spawn and swimming along there. See the map on EQATLAS for the location.

how i did my gloves quest
# Jul 27 2001 at 3:02 AM Rating: Decent
first, went with a scout necro (lvl 23 old thing i don´t use any more xept for this kind of thing)bound in innothule and went to guk, invised used map ran through , invis dropped a few times, but i never got aggroed on, went through zone to lower guk swimming the river by the AC camp, zone , by the wall on my left, out of water , into the small room there, saw rod, gate, logged in my main necro another 23 necro, went same way, got the rod , gate , ran back north through to Sro where i got a port to WC, later got a port to NK , went to lake rathe, camped aviaks, and at last found a lvl 31 rogue in a group killing cyclops in rathe mountains, they were also killing giant skellies and i got a green light to come loot if finger and toe dropped (doin both harvester, gloves and boots quest) got both in about 30 min. waved goodbye and went back to lake to get my lvl 24 doin aviaks.
next, had gotten all but shadowmen drops for my quest and whilst in WC found a lvl 54 Wizzy camping them for shining stones, gave tell and he was willing to let me loot, before i got there hand dropped , and soon after scythe did too, i waited 1.5 hours more for eye, but no luck.
i had gotten the silk first since my trade skill is tailoring and doin the silk was no prob, trivial at lower then 70 at least, went to finish my harvester and gloves , and whilst in bank to get quest items some gnome necro gave me gatorscale sleeves and grave sandals, lucky me :)
went in my new gear to get my harvester and gloves , happy as a clam at high tide !

Is it 4 items needed to do this quest or a 5th one also? I'm confused about the sceptres. Get the one from L Guk and the Sceptre of Tears or just the one from L Guk?
RE: Number of Items needed

The sceptre of tears is the one from LGuk. Enter LGuk via the Dead Side. Go down the hall to the first T - take the left passage past a bunch of live frogs, up the circle staircase and into a small room where the sceptre is just laying on the ground.

According to Lokari's Tailoring Guide at: http://www.lokari.net/everquest/tailoring.html
Inky Shadow Silk is made by a tailor
recipe is: 1 Shadow Wolf Pelt, 1 Silk Swatch and 2 Scrolls of Gather Shadows.
I know Shadow Wolves can be hunted in Misty Thicket.
Half Measures
# Jan 19 2001 at 2:57 PM Rating: Default
I just got all the items to do this quest. All are really easy to get, except the hand of shadow off of shadow men. I handed in ALL the items and i got response 4 times. "the temple of solesek ro doesn't accept half measures" or something similiar to that. They didn't give me the gloves. I have done many temple of solesek ro quests and never had this happen before. I got all the items exactly right, i doubled and tripled checked, yet i guess it is tellin me i got all 4 of the items wrong. Total pain in the ************** like this make me want to quit eq altogether. i petitioned and /bug but i dont think anything will be done about it. For now on, no more questing and getting items the honest way. I am just going to go to gfay and buy them for 200pp.

I finished the harvester quest today and it said the same thing about half measures. I did get the harvester, it was put in my inventory slot and not equipped to my mouse pointer. This is the first quest i've really done so I'm not sure if the new item automatically goes in the inventory. You might check all your bags to make sure you didn't get them. My faction standing is indifferent and I still got the "half measures" message...hmm....

Its probably because your faction was less than indifferent with them, if it is you cant do quest until you boost it up.
You might have hailed the efreety (or however you spell the damn thing) in the Temple, or you might have camped that anmed orc in Sro or that shadow man in mistmoore.

Who isn't intelligent?
# May 12 2001 at 3:59 AM Rating: Default
He said that he got the halfmeasures message, but no gloves... therefore it wasn't just on the first three items. Yes, it does tend to say that when turning in more than 1 item at a time. But if he didn't get the quest item, then something was definitely wrong about that one..
RE: Half Measures
# Mar 27 2001 at 9:41 AM Rating: Decent
I did this quest yesterday and it worked. Skeletal fingers are pretty common in Rathe Mountains. Scepter of Tears you get from the waterfall area in lower Guk, it's a no brainer once you learn how to find the location and get there safely; use the maps from www.eqatlas.com. The shadow wolf pelt may take a little time to get, the shadow wolves don't drop the pelt every time and you need some skill in tailoring (I've got about a 50% success rate with 35 skill) or need to find a tailor to make the inky shadow silk. The hand of shadow may take a while ... I've gotten it from the shadowmen in Nektulos Forest. Get this piece last because it's NO RENT. Nek Forest is a good place because it's close to the Temple. Killing the shadowmen has the helpful side effect of raising Temple faction as well.

Lastly (I've made this mistake DOH!) ... Shadowbound Gloves are LORE, so if you're going for a second pair be sure to have someone hold the pair you're wearing before handing the four items in at the Temple.

Ok... I have the fingers I know how to get the hand... now my question is how do I get threw lower guk to pickup the septer of tears??? is it possible to raise my faction with the live frogloks to where I can just run threw the dungeon with Invisy Vs. undead or is it impossible for a necromancer to raise faction with the frogloks?

the scepter is at the very front of Lguk as long as you go through the croc room in Uguk, you can go through Upper guk with invis up no problem if you have a map. i got this yesterday for my necro twink it was easy.
RE: Done w/ Quest
# Mar 01 2001 at 6:36 AM Rating: Default
Yep,its easy. Just get a map, cast Gather Shadows and head to the zone to Lower Guk that brings you our near the waterfall (5 on the map). The Scepter is simply lying on the ground. I did it at level 16 easily, though it was brown trouser all the way as I crept past a horde of yellow froggies waiting for my Invis to suddenly drop as it tends to do. Thankfully it didn't though.

awesome quest for necros!
# Dec 27 2000 at 6:30 PM Rating: Decent
I did this quest in a couple of hours with my 24th necro in an evening! First, the shadow wolf pelts are sometimes sold to the vendors in Neriak by newbies and they(the vendors) charge only a gold and change. Made the Inky silk in my first attempt with a tailoring skill of 34 and INT 161 (my ratio for making it was 3 out of 4 tries). Then I ran to guk - made myself invisible and went to the dead side of lower guk - hang a left at first intersection and hoofed it to waterfall area. Sceptre was waiting for me. After that excursion, I ran to rathe mountains and /ooc that i was looking for a skellie's toes - fortunately I found a couple of folks who were hunting skels and hung around for all of 5 minutes before one giant skel dropped the toe. They let me loot the toe (it was no use to them) and off I went on my merry way. Last stop was West Comons zone to the where the Shadowmen spawn. There I found a high lvl monk (49th) soloing them. Again, this person didn't mind if I looted the hand if it popped and it did about 5 minutes after I got there! The gods of Luck were shining down on this necro that night! All 4 components in about 1 1/2 of work not bad considering some of the components can take awhile to drop. Then the last part was the easiest - handing the stuff over to Syllina at the Temple. This quest is completely doable by low to mid level necros - I recomend doing it on a peak time period when trying to find something to hunt is getting frustrating. Let others do the killing and get these gloves!

Easiest way to camp shadowmen (in nek anyway) is to shout out for help from lvl 25+ ppl.
Had a wonderful group helping me to camp camp them, and incedently camping for themsleves since we all needed one item it dropped. They do assist so breaking *and keepping it broke* are a challenge, but with a well rounded group, even a group of 25-30's can do it. YOU CANNOT DO IT SOLO. Definately helps to have an enchanter who can keep 2-3 creatures mezzed. In about 4 hours we saw 2 eyes of shadow, one hand of shadow, a few masks (1 charge shadowstep* a few essence of shadows and a few patches. The drop on the eyes and hands dotn appear to be common but i could be wrong. i got one on the 3rd kill after about 10 minutes of camping them.

LIKE TO SAY BIG THANX TO POINOXIOUS, YZELLION. EDDIE. THEOL, and all the others who helped us out last night. it is well worth it!

RE: Hand of Shadow
# Nov 22 2000 at 5:02 PM Rating: Default
They are tough because of numbers. They are usually bunched in groups and like to help each other out. Shadowed Men come in all classes too so you could have a nice well rounded group of 4 to 5 Shadowmen fighting you at once. I once had a group of upper 20s nearly get wiped out because we had 2 fighter shadowed men, 2 clerics and a necro. Just be careful because its hard to see how many there are before aggroing all of them on you. Sometimes the men aren't holding anything so you can only see the name.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 3:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.

I killed 12 giant skeletons and got 4 toes. The last one dropped the finger.

Can't be too rare. I was killing Giant Skeletons at the Lake Rathe zone for about two hours today. I saw three fingers in that time. I didn't see any toes though.

I went there for the first time to do quest, and found one toe and one finger, not to hard to find.
Shadow Silk

When making Shadow Silk, Inky Silk, and Large Shadow Silk, what is the minimum tailoring skill needed? I've heard that they are trivial at 90... but mines at 0 and would like to know what it should be before making the stuff. =)
Sceptre Room via the AC

Yes, if you swim out of the AC room and hang a left into the next waterway, you will zone to the top of the waterfall in LGuk. No mobs between you and the sceptre =)

Just to clear some possible confusion:
The scepter you find in a small room at the top of the waterfall in LG is called "A Scepter". It is lying on the floor in front of a chair. This Scepter (the only one there) IS the one you need for the Shadow Bound Gloves quest even though it is not named the Scepter of Tears.

You can use the Identify spell to confirm that the item "A Scepter" from the waterfall room is indeed the Scepter of Tears. Using Identify is not essential to completing the quest, however; it serves merely to confirm that you have the proper item.
