You say, 'Hail, Vurgo'

Vurgo says 'Welcome! I am Vurgo, follower of Solusek Ro and holder of the [harvester] and the [Words of Darkness].'

You say, 'What harvester?'

Vurgo says 'I can forge you one, but you will need to bring me the correct [scythe components].'

You say, 'What scythe components?'

Vurgo says 'The first thing I need is a shadowed scythe from our mortal enemies, the shadowed men.'

Give him a Shadowed Scythe.

Vurgo says 'A shadowed scythe! Well done! The only good shadowed man is a banished one. As the weapons of the shadowed men have a tendency to disappear, I have given you a note to remind me that you have indeed supplied me with a scythe. Give me the note with the following items and I will forge you a harvester: a fungus eye from a mortuary fungus in the Estate of Unrest, a shadowed knife from an island goblin headmaster in the Ocean of Tears and a fire opal. Give me these items, and I will forge for you a harvester.'
Your faction standing with Temple Of Sol Ro has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Shadowed Men has been adjusted by -1.
You gain experience!!

Hand in the items.

Vurgo says 'Solusek Ro does not believe in half measures.'

Vurgo says 'My note, a fungus eye, a shadowed knife and gold! All of the necessary components to make a harvester. Well done, adventurer!'

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 25 2002 at 10:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Vurgo doesn't mention anything about the Shadowed Eye (at least not as far as I have gone yet) I have handed in the scythe and am in the process of obtaining my fungus eye. Is the shadowed eye a requirement later or can the fungus eye be replaced with the shadowed eye?
RE: Shadowed Eye

hooked on phonics clearly did not work for you. You need a FUNGUS eye, and a Shadowed KNIFE. Nowhere does the quest description say shadowed eye. Next time read first, then post.

Fungus Eye
# Feb 15 2002 at 10:06 PM Rating: Default
I'm wondering why everybody says the fungus eye is the hardest part of this quest...I am a lvl 48 warrior and can solo everything but the ghost and the gnome necro in unrest, hags go down too quick to do any real damage to me. I am just starting this quest for my necro, mainly because I was helping out a friend in unrest to get some DWB's and a BS tunic and the fungus eye dropped, I didnt even know the fungus eye was for the quest until somebody told me.anyway, if the eye is the hardest part then this will be the an even easier quest than the ghoulbane :)
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 05 2002 at 9:57 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ghoulbane isn't a quest you idiot it's a pally only sword drop from Lguk
RE: Fungus Eye
# May 01 2002 at 9:40 AM Rating: Decent
Maybe, before you call someone an idiot, you should look to see which way your finger is pointing. Ghoulbane is a questable item. I am a Paladin and I did it. That's how I know. I even have a picture of it on my Desktop.

As for being an "Easy Quest", if your Lvl 41 then, yes, it is easy. If your level 30, then no it's not easy. It gets on my nerves when some higher level comes along and says "Bah what are you complaining about that's so easy!" Hah! Go solo Nagafen or Vox and tell me how easy it is! /flame off

# Jun 13 2003 at 10:35 AM Rating: Decent
He never called anyone and Idiot... watch it. Also, I did this quest with my level 30 necro and I also found the fungus eyes to be the easiest part of the quest, this was a while ago so unrest was a bit more camped than recent days, I just got a group together and killed out that area till I got my eye. The hardest part for me was killing around 101 shadowed men to get a shadowed scythe to drop... very random drop rate.

Edit- I came looking at this post because I'm redoing this quest for a friend. Funny how it took me over an hour my 1st time, and now I go back and get the scythe on the 1st drop.

The worst part of this quest for me was getting te damned mortuary eye, until I figured out the easiest way to do it. I buffed myself with all my enchanter buffs, and also got a cleric to give me an HP buff. This came in handy serveral times, as my invis vs undead wore off at least once, and the normal werebat who spawns in the basement seems to see through invis vs undead which can aggro the whole basement. Anyhow, buff up, invis vs undead and run to basement. Go through the secret passage in the corner of the wall and run down to the lava. To the right and left of the lava are two traps in the floor that drop you into a pit. At the bottom of each pit the mortuary fungus. Took me 5 kills to get the eye. Hope this helps a little!

Some people seem to miss a point about alot of these necro pieces...I see all kinds that LOWER cha. Someone once told me that lower cha helps you out on your fears better, but I have learned that they are full of it lol. Cha is needed for a necro to charm undead more effectively (sure, you may think that's the chanter's job; or you might be one who just doesn't have the BALLS to go to the undead related exp areas for higher lvls). You NEVER want a piece that lowers a stat. And, going off subject, I saw a post somewhere in here that said "dex isn't that important for casters." All I have to say is they need Ye Olde Ball Peen Hammer to the skull :)

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 05 2002 at 12:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) How the F**k did you get to 53? a) negative charisma DOES help with fearing. b) Necros get these pet spells that sumon skeletal pets (you may have heard of this by now, what with you being "53" and all) whose charm doesn't break - WTF would you go around charming pets when you can summon one? To be honest i don't think you even HAVE a necro, much less a level 53
RE: =\

"How the F**k did you get to 53?"
The traditional approach is to kill stuff. Each time you kill something of an appropriate level, you get a little 'experience'. When you get enough 'experience', you gain 'levels'. You start at level one, so it would seem logical that he probably killed stuff, until he gained fifty-two levels. Finally attaining level fifty-three.

"a) negative charisma DOES help with fearing."
I know you're just gonna disagree, but I believe you are wrong. Have you tested this yourself? Or are you just working on the basis that everything that people say on forums is delivered to them as fact from the guy at Verant who writes the code?

"WTF would you go around charming pets when you can summon one?"
The most obvious reason to do this, is to split undead spawns. (Notably the two spectres just inside the Tower of Frozen Shadow and the undead frogloks in the Frenzy room in Lower Guk.) This isn't the only reason to charm, but I dare say it's the most common.

The only issue, I'd pick up on with Magnati's comments is that in most instances a necro in an "undead related exp areas for higher lvls" probably wants something a little better than a Harvester. Having said this, I still have one, at level fifty-one. *Shrug* (I have a Stein of Moggok too! I use the stein if I need the mana boost. But frankly, I'd rather be seen carrying a scythe, than a pint glass.)

Anyhow...

Charm comes in handy many-a-time, bud. I wouldn't put it down. For instance, in a high-end undead dungeon, when you're, say, raiding and your pet is killed, instead of summoning another pet you can just charm a creature, reducing the monsters that nead to be killed for a time and doing plenty of damage at the same time. Plus, it's always fun to charm stuff and scare newbs, lol. To sum up: Charm = good.

fire opal
# Sep 10 2001 at 3:25 PM Rating: Good
Don't go waste your time camping giants or buying a fire opal for a ton of money. Just give Genni in the Temple 55pp, she asks for 550gp but it doesn't matter, super easy quest and nice reward. If you're a wiz and want to make some money selling these, just bind at the goblin headmaster spawn in OOT. Then you can port to, or very close to the other locations. Even easier quest if you're a druid )

Such an easy quest
# Aug 24 2001 at 9:45 PM Rating: Good
My level 30 druid did this quest and the shadowbound quests for my 24 necro. It was beyond easy. The hardest part was the goblin headmaster, easy kill but lots of mobs around it. Unrest was a breeze. If you arent a druid, get wolf form cast on you and you can walk around unrest unmolested. Go to the basement, drop into the pit where the fungus doods hang out. Nothing will aggro you in the pit and it cant get out, so chain nuke it to death. Shadowmen camps are easy with harmony. If you play a non solo class get a small group, they are a blast to fight anyway or ask someone fighting them if you can have the scythe. I think i am going to do this quest again and again for faction and plat :)
RE: Such an easy quest
# Apr 05 2002 at 12:43 PM Rating: Decent
The one thing that I don't agree with in this post is that Shadow men camps are easy with harmony. My level 33 druid, and two level 33 enchanters tried to harmony/charm in the shadowman camp in WC, and we got wiped out like a pack of Charmin.

Yeah, harmonying them worked real good at first, but then when two popped right as we were pulling a third, it was Death City.

I would say Shadow man camps are Doable with harmony; not easy.

No, the effect will not remove ultravision from a dark elf. If you're a necro and cast Shadow Sight on yourself along with Deadeye, you can see invis along as have ultravision. Hope this helps!

RE: WTF

This is an easy quest for me, lvl 45 Mage. First I got to OOT and kill the headmaster, then gate back to FV, buy at port to BB or Gfay, go to Unrest and hopefully find a druid there, if not just fight my way in. Get fungus eye, then get a port to LS and kill the shadowed men at the shadow man camp and get the Shadowed Scythe and Shadowed Eye. The the Temple is right off LS so go buy a fire opal and Hello Harvester! =)

Hope this helped.
how i did my harvester
# Jul 27 2001 at 2:48 AM Rating: Default
first , went to oot at lvl 21 and with a wizzy partner camped Glendl Vargus (dorf on sister isle) whilst i did this i looked with /ooc if anyone could help kill the headmaster on oracle isle, finally at lvl 23 i found a 32 necro who was willing, he didn´t use pet, just pulled with dooming, add VoS, a few SoP and down he went, got a knife after about 25-30 min, or about 5 kills or so.
second , got a lvl 41 druid friend come with me to unrest, share wolfform, i waited in the backyard, indiff to all whilst he went downstairs , found a fungus killed it, no luck first time, next fungus dropped it , he got killed right after cuz of hags. he was bound in BB, so i did a /shout, if i could get escort downstairs to the corpse as it had a quest item, soon a wolfform warrior came and escorted me downstairs, i looted , got my fungus eye. waited for friend to pick his corpse and we ported to WC, where i went to the shadowmen camp, no one there, so i asked guildmates if they´d be willing to camp shadowmen, 2 lvl 34 druids came and we went to Lavastorm, one did a harmony on the whole camp , but as luck has it, one popped right after he pulled and we had 2 priests on our hands, i a lvl 23 necro sent in pet, which got slaughtered in just a few seconds, both shadowmen went on me and my hp went down fast, they healed me to full, i FD, both shadowmen on one druid , his hp plummet, and dies, the other tried to flee but was killed (them beeing shadowmen and no way u outrun those guys) i waited for them to go back up the hill, undid my FD , gave loc on corpses, they came , gave a /lol and we went to WC , to see if they were any easier there, i gave a /ooc to check if camp was open whilst the latter one was still getting his corpse, and got a "shadowmen camped" , damn , but gave him a tell to see if i could loot my drops, he said "np" he (a lvl 54 wizzy) was after shinging stones, before i got to him from druid ring , he gave tell that a HAND had dropped (i was doing harvester, shadowbound gloves and boots quest at the same time) i ran over looted , right after a scythe dropped , no eye for boots yet , i waited 1.5 hours with him , no more luck. i thanked him and went to finish my gloves and harvester, stopped at bank in neriak to pick up the other quest items , and whilst there some gnome necro gave me both grave sandals and gaterscale sleeves. ( lucky me huh :) ) so i scratched the boots quest and went to collect the harvester and gloves in my new sandals and sleeves.
fun quests, easily done by just asking ppl if they´ll let u loot. prolly could have gotten the fungus eye that way as well.

Just like too say that i have been doing this quest from level 29 up, the fungus eye is super easy to get, you just get wolf form and go too the basement there are fungus, in the pit traps, and you can fight them in the pit without anything else jumping in and helping, the shadowed scyth drops really common, and the knife is also no sweat at getting, i usualy do the robe of enshroudment quest at the same time
RE: so easy
# Jul 02 2001 at 9:16 AM Rating: Default
uhh.. 3hours of camping shadowed men in west commons and lavastorm, probably all types of shadowed weapons excluding the scythe. I payed him to help too, since I'm only lvl 32 can't really solo a group of them.
how big you need to be
# Jun 13 2001 at 10:05 AM Rating: Default
i would not go get the eye on my own, i am a lvl 35 wizard and i was with a lvl 45 dru. with wolf form on the rest of the place would not aggro un les i hit one. All the skellies, and zombies down stairs were all blue to me (the zombie hags i can drop in two spells of 310 each and gave me about 1/2 blue bubble per kill).
I would say ether go in as a wolf so the whole place dont aggro on you or tke at least 4 lvl 35+ people with you when you go in.

get a skull off a greater dark bones while your in there, its a no drop for the acumen mask, +2 wis, +5 int, AC 4. =)

# Jun 14 2001 at 3:59 PM Rating: Default
Unrest in an outdoor zone as the ability to use wolf form should indicate. If there are any druids in the zone you might be able to ask them to just go in wolf and harmony a path down to the shrooms. Just a thought.

How hard will it be for a lvl 34 necromancer to get the fungus eye from the Mortuary Fungus alone? Will I need a group to head down there, and what lvls?
RE: fungus eye
# May 16 2001 at 3:52 PM Rating: Default
Ok.. its not easy to get Fungus eye, because, You will not like to mess with Festering Hags.. they can nuke you for 150plus. Those pesky wizzy can take out a 50plus man without problem (of course, if you nuked too hard by few of them), so you better get some help.

In answer to the Iksar question, we start out either KoS, or almost KoS. (I forget, been a while). Kill Shadows. Or give Orctalis rings
Or... BEST and easiest (if you got some $$):
There is an NPC (erud.) in S.Ro who does a "lotto" type quest. Gice hime some $, and you may get some random low-level spell. The sweet part is you get positive Temple faction every time. I'm sorry I don't remember the details, but they are elsewere on this site.
Trick for no rent items.
# Mar 13 2001 at 11:57 AM Rating: Default
If you have to log for the night, have someone dual you and lose. Loot all but no rent items and they will stay on your corpse until your corpse decays (time depends on level. usually a week of no game time or 24 hours if you online).

RE: KINFE PLEASE ??

I tried for 4 hrs to get a shadow knife from the shadowmen with no luck. I killed the goblin accross from the sister island and got it frist try. At lvl 36 these were green to me and there was no aggro from the other gobbies.

super easy to get. Good luck.
The Quest
# Feb 07 2001 at 12:50 PM Rating: Excellent
This is the 100% Correct quest!!!
Did the quest with my lvl 41 Ranger.

I started in Unrest with the Mortuary fungus.
The first one you can find down where the Dark Terrors (some blue at lvl 41 they dont see Camouflage) and the Zombie Like casters spawn (they cast Frost and Fire spells and have a Fire based Damage shield!)the mortuary Fungus stands near a Skeleton which can be a Dark Boned a Monk or any other skeletons of the Zone (some still give Exp at lvl 41). The Fungus itself is Weak but casts Slowing spells which made me dual wield half as fast. The fungus eye is Magic Lore and No drop!! and he dont even has it with him every time. Next step is OOT you take the Boat to FP and wait till it reaches the first Iland from FP it must be the one with the Woodelf Womans.
You go off the boat and turn round 180°!! and begin to swim then you can find a Island with lots of Goblins on it At the Backside of the Isle you find a Monolithe and a Hut the Headmaster spawns in front of the hut und has the Knife of Shadows (MAgic Lore No Drop)! He also dont drop it every time. So you need some tries. Best tactic is to kill the 2 Shamans at the Monolithe first cause they are going to heal him while fight.
Then you go to Lavastorm where you are finding the Shadowed Scythe on Shadowed man. I found it one time while killing them for half a hour. They also spawn around a Monolithe left from the entrance. The scythe is Magic Lore No Drop and No Rent!!!! So dont go LD or something after looting.
Then you enter the Temple and find Genni who sells Fire Opals for 550 Gold OR 55 Platinum!!! She says she only will sell for Gold but Platinum will even work (trust me) did it two times.
Then go to the sort Of library and go down the stairs where you find Vurgo a Erudite Male.

Now the most important thing of the quest:
FIRST give him ONLYE the scythe then you will receive a Note Rolled up NO DROP!!! and some exp and faction.
After that Give him the Note, the Knife from Headmaster, the Fire Opal and the Fungus Eye and you will receive the Harvester!
