He needs a golden rod (from a froglok priest in guk) and an enchanted shining stone. The enchanted shining stone is made from a shining stone from shadow men, take that stone to Cynthia, a gypsie in the rathe mountains and give it and 50gp to get it enchanted. Then go to Highkeep and get the stone transmuted by Tarn Visilin in the library for another 50 gp. The two steps for getting the stone each raise faction with beta neutral and can be done separately from the rest of the quest for those who just need a faction boost.

hope this helps out in some way as I would not like to see this happen to anyone else.

Just FYI, Cynthia returns the stone to you as "A Glamour Stone" and Tarn turns it into "Glowing Glamour Stone".
50pp not 50 gp? no worries

she didnt eat the stone shes just waiting for the right amount of cash.

Just got one today. I tried to use it from inventory and it said "This item CANNOT be used by your race/class or diety".

(edit)
I got it with my 41 Ranger, not the chanter on my sig lol.

Is this effect able to clicked from the inventory? And if so, is it possible for other classes to use it then? It would incredibly helpfull if it acted like an amulet of necropotence...

cast benevolence or whatever faction spell you have at your enchanter level. This should make you friendlier to them. Con the 2 gaurds outside and see what they con. You have to be about dubious to walk around untouched.
Zone inside. Since faction spells only work until you zone, you will have to recast faction spell on the first frog you see once inside. This should give you the same faction for ALL frogs inside. Con him again to see the faction change.
Go to priests room. He will be surrounded by several other spawns, including casters (shamans).
I cast "pacify" my level 39 spell for aggro reduction on everything in the room, one at a time, as fast as i could get them. I counted 8 spawns when I was in there. Also, make a pet in the hallway leading into the priest room "just incase", before you cast pacify, or whatever level non-aggro spell you have. Then, I pulled the priest right out of the middle up to me with suffocate, and let my pet pound him. I nuked him once and killed him. Ive seen the priest killed 3 times including my kill, and every time he had the rod. The other 7 spawns in the room never even flinched while I creamed the priest right in front of them LOL.
#Kerafrym, Posted: Oct 25 2002 at 12:47 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have one of these on my Enchanter High Elf, I just walk through Felwithe all the time and I always get stopped by some female High Elf marveling at how incredible it is as she would stroke it up and down, keep saying how incredibly amazing it is. Then I say "Hey, get your hands out of my robe."

One small update on the faction hits for this quest.

The old "beta neutral" faction boosts for the two steps used for getting the stone enchanted don't happen anymore.

There are, however, two faction adjustments at the completion of the quest:

Faction with Temple of Sol Ro gets better.
Faction with Shadowed Men gets worse.

These are in addition to the faction hits for killing the mobs along the way, of course.

:)

You can handle the priest room without too much problems with just a 35+ SK. First, pull the two boys on the far walls and pray they both aren't shammys (they'll heal each other).

Bind, rest and med, then pull the priest - you'll probobly pull a freind or two with him but just focus on the preist and then FD if you don't think you can handle the others.

Next, either camp out or /q out and then log in your chanter whom you've already camped invis to the spot you were pulling to. If the chanter never wasted a frog before, you'll be dubious and can loot and walk out, otherwise, simply gate.

Same process with the shadow men - I found the shadow man camp in the swamp to be most productive.

As a side note though, they nerfed his drop rate - I've only been seeing the frog holding the rod about one in three kills now.

There are three ways the kill the Preist. First: Be above lvl40(therefore making this fight very easy). Second: Get a group of 4-6 Lvl's 30-35. Or third: Be from 30-35 with a paladin who is also and you will own this room. The enchanter Pally combination is unstoppable and it would really be helpful here because at least on my server I have trouble finding more than 2 people that can help to help me kill the priest.

You may require faction of at least indifferently to do this quest. Or when Sultin talks to you. Turning in the items when Sultin does not talk to you will result in him eating or keeping the items without rewarding you the rod. Hope this helps.

I just finished this quest last night. As a lvl 40 enchanter without my newest pet spell, this quest seem to be pretty easy but still fun. I did the Froglok Priest part with the help of a few guildmates a few levels back after reading about multiple adds and such involved with the froggies. To be honest, if you tackle the two higher cons first, you shouldn't run into the problem with 8 froggies all on you at once. The Froglok Priest dropped the rod on the first kill. That part took us a total of about 10 minutes. The remainder of the quest I did solo.

I chose to kill the Shadowed Men in SK because of the ease to get to Rathe Mtns and back up to HHK without the need of a druid or wizzy for porting. All the Shodowed Men conned green to me and would not agro when approached. Pulling one at a time was very easy even with the high taunt spell, Tash. Buffing the pet with Shade, Celerity and Rampage let the pet just tank all night long. The Shadowed Men run extremly fast and when they turn to run, they turn east. Be sure to pull them to the east of their little encampment so they don't all agro after retreating back through the pack. Only once did I make this mistake and had to gate out. The casters are healers and like to nuke as well. Be sure to have a stun spell available for when they start to heal themselves. This took about 3 hours to finally get the shining stone to drop.

SK is a great lowbie zone and for the enchanters out there that are starting their jewelcrafting skills, this is a great zone to pick to fight Shadowed Men. While I was there, I made 4 sales while I was low on mana and medding. The Aviak Tree and Split Paw are very close by and make good places to meet. Accept gold pieces as a form of payment since you're gonna need 50gp for the gypsy in Rathe Mtns and another 50gp for the guy in HHK. The Shadowed Men also drop a bit of pp and gp. My big loot was about 4pp I think.

The gypsy in Rathe Mtns is very easy to find. When coming out of Lake Rathe and into Rathe Mtns, follow the left wall until you can see a gypsy camp. She is right there. When you Hail her, she doesn't say much =P Just give her the stone and 50gp. The stone is no longer NO RENT now and the quest could be finished later. I chose to continue to HHK 'cause I've been wanting this for a while.

The guy you're looking for in HHK is the same person you buy enchanter pet spells from. How convient =) I picked up my new pet spell while I was here as well as my next two to save me from running all the way the heck back up there.

Getting to Temple of Solusek Ro from HHK is a long run and includes running through Kithicor Forest. If you choose to do this, be sure you're not running through at night. The undead are not the friendliest beings in Norrath. I would suggest trying to find a port to either Tox or Lavastorm. Since I'm bound in the Nexus, I just gated there and /auction'd for a port. Unfortunetly, there was no one in the Nexus available for a port, so I went to GD and got one from there. GFay I'm sure would've been just as convenient to find a port, but I like Thurgadin much better as a city =P

Check the map on http://www.eqatlas.com for Temple of Solusek Ro for the location of the the NPC for the Rod of Insidious Glamour. He was pretty deep into the temple, but easy to find with a map.

Since the release of Luclin, I've had to use my Alliance line of spells much more frequently. I haven't had to do the Shadowhaven Traders quest since casting Alliance or Benevolence on most NPCs in Shadowhaven allow me to trade with them. Except for those darn bankers near the swimming pool =P The rod is a great way to free up yet another spell block and the charisma I get from it is pretty good. Not quite as much as a Crude Stein, but the combination of having a weapon in hand all the time, Alliance at the click of a button and +12 charisma on me, I'm willing to sacrifice the 3 charisma and 10 stamina.

For the gloves, you need a glove from the lizardman radiant and one from the shadow men.

For the gloves, you need a glove off the frog scryer or the skeletal monk and 3 runes.

Multi-questable?
# Mar 11 2002 at 9:50 PM Rating: Default
Hiya all was just wondering if this could be multi-quested or not.... Im in a bad posistion to go and get the rod that comes outta Guk. Thus becuase I happen to be on Vallon Zek this being PvP and it happens to be crawling with darkies... Me being a high elf chanter. I tried once to go in and get this myself. I had on my DE Illusion but some guy came up to me and wacked me anyways. thus he found out that I was not a DE. So he tore me up to say the least :/ So I figured id have my friend go down with his iksar or DE illusion mask and get the rod. Oh ya he is like prob gettin close to 50 now so i dont think many will be able to just run by and wack him Heh. So i was just wonderin if i could send him in to get thatpart and then we go do the other part. Then we could meet up and I dont no what way it would work if any way but id have him give him the rod and ill give the rest of the stuff i guess. So if you know the answer please post a response oh ya if i said any of this wrond please correct me cuz i im always willing to learn more. =)

Fenwenal chanter of vallon zek

o ya im anon becuase i didnt wanna take the time to sing up sence i dont think i will be ostin anything else any time soon but thanks for a respose of you gve me any.

Definitely multi-questable.

I got the rod one night as I was exploring guk with my monk. I turned in the rod with my monk, logged, got my chanter on, turned in the remainder items, got the rod at level 12.

As a troll shammy I just pulled up a pet, though he was a crappy green, medded to full, regen on both of us, as well as alacrity and talisman, then went in. The priest has about 500 hp, the rest can really absorb it. Had to heal myself once, pet once, and nuke like insanity. Nukes only work because dots just will be nullified by heals when they're low. For Cynthia I just killed Master Whoopal, turned in his head (Disciple Symbol of Innoruuk) and got the halfling illusion mask, turned it on, bam, indifferent. Just gotta do it again for HHK.

Ok I did this quest as a lvl 45 Druid for my enchanter.

Solo'ed the Priest in guk no problem and didn't have any agro's. He dropped the rod on the 3rd or 4th kill.

I must have been really lucky because I looted the Stone on my first kill. Again solo'ed Shadowed men, in Innothule Swamp. I have camped them several times and there is never anyone there :)

His comments are useful, because they give those of us who are "level appropriate" for the mob a sense of how frequenlty the rod and the stone drop, and what zone he obtained the zone from.

I do agree that there are a lot of feebs who spend too much time bragging on these posts, but if they mix in a little useful content, I don't mind the bragging. Much.

The shining stone is no drop and lore but it's NOT no rent, meaning you CAN log after you get it and it will not disappear. As for the drop of the stone, I camped the shadowed men in WC for about 3 hours one day and got it and then it dropped in about 5 minutes another day. It's just the luck of the draw really. If you really want to make things easier, then go to Innothule Swamp and camp the shadowed men there. Upper Guk is right there too and you can knock out 2 birds with 1 stone, that's what I do anyway. Plus Rathe Mountains is very near there too and that's where you should go next, it's alot less running around if you do it this way. :)

The rod was very difficult when I first got it. I had a group of mid 20's and I was the only one who managed to survive. There are about 6 Froggies around the Priest and they all have a fairly High Magic resistence. Best bet is to bring mostly tanks and a healer with you.

Prices change from server to server. Some servers don't have as many people interested in doing the scutt work of the wuests to obtain an item so they will have to pay more to those that do. Veeshan has a great many questers so quest items are cheaper than average listing here.

Yesterday i did this quest. I went to the temple or ro and hailed sultin. he says blah blah blah blah blah. he will tell you to get a golden rod , and a shiny stone. He tells you to get the stone fully enchanted . Cynthia is always camped and i had to tell the person not to kill her . I gave her the shiny stone and 50gp and she said here i enchanted the stone. to get it enchanted the rest of the way take it to Tarn in hhk. Take it to Tarn and give the stone and 50gp and he will enchant it the rest of the way. for the golden rod. i guess i got lucky me and soem guildies was going to camp the ancient crocodile in uguk and i seen the priest with this rod so we cleaned out the room. ( i got my gator scale arms later that night too =D). Then all you do is take it back to sultin and give him the golden rod and stone and then you have it. Now i dunno if i should keep both chr in my hand or my cruide stien and stien of maggok.

Greetings,

Last week end I finally got around to getting the golden rod from Guk, then headed out to Sol Ro a few days later. I hailed the guy (Sultin) and asked around the rod and all that jazz, but he never mentions Tarn Vislin from High Keep. The stone I had was a Shining Stone, and he said he wanted a Shining Stone, so I gave him the Stone and Rod, only to receive a "Someone (forgot game) doesn't reward a task half done" or something like that message. I petitioned a GM to figure out what I did wrong, and of course, he was no help. So I think that if you get the Stone enchanted at Highkeep, you WON'T get the rod.

Also, I happened to have an extra stone from the Shadowe men, so I headed out to Rathe Mountains to get that one enchanted, and it turns out that giving Cynthia 5pp instead of 50gp doesn't work, so I lost my second stone. At this point I was pretty pissed and the fact that I had just gotten my incandescent mask and gloves didn't really calm me down =).

Anyways, I'd appreciate it if someone that did the quest posted the steps he followed to do the quest. You'd think a level 34 could solo those guys in Guk for the rod, but when a bunch aggro on you, you're stupid pet isn't any help. I died 2 times getting that lousy rod even though he dropped it on the second attempt and I don't feel like paying someone to help me get it again.

You have to take the shining stone to Cynthia in Rathe Mountains, give it to her plus (either) 50gp or 5pp, both WILL work cause I do it all the time and she will give you back the stone now called a glamour stone. Then go to highkeep and give the stone plus (either) 50gp or 5pp and Tarn will give you back the glowing glamour stone. Take the stone and the golden rod to Sultin in Temple of Sol and he will give the Rod of Insid. I know these steps work well cause I do them often with no problems.

What you did wrong my friend is. He says somethin like i need a golden rod and a shiny stone enchanted to the fulliest and he tells you to take it to cythina in rath moutains. then once you give her the stone and 50gp she tells you go to tarn in hhk. then he tells you return the stone and golden rod to sultin for your rod of glamour

Yes, just give her the stone and 50gp and she will give you back the stone enchanted. I think it is called a glamour stone afterwards. Then the same thing with Tarn in Highkeep and it becomes a glowing glamour stone. Then that's it for the stone. I'm still trying to get the golden rod in Upper Guk now. Happy hunting.

The NPC in the Temple doesnt say anything about Tarn in HHK? The Rod droped after about 7 kills of the priest and the stone also on the third kill, I am to finish the quest later though, bit worried about Tarn now though!!!

I found the stone in Lavastorm right next to the entrance to Najena. Can't remember what MOB I found the item on, but I think it was either an imp or basilisk. Never even knew what it is was for, but glad to see it was an enchanter quest.

I was assisting a Shadow Night camping the rapier for his boots as well. We had one of these drop after about 30 minutes at the large hand in Innothule Swamp.

Does anyone know if this Stone still drops off Shadow Men in West Commons? This isn't suppose to be a very time consuming quest, but I camped the Shadowmen for 4 hours last night without a single stone dropping???

I camped the Shad's in Lavastorm for 3-4 hours last night, and had the same luck..

Let us know if one drops in WC, and I'll keep trying at LS :)

Had mine in WC. I needed gloves for the incandescent gloves quest, and as the stone dropped I had the good idea to keep it :)

We pulled SM in WC and I got 2 shining stones in the first 10 minutes. Same experience another time; asked a party who was looking for rapier if I could loot any stones that dropped at WC and got one on the 3rd or 4th pull. So they drop there, and frequently.
Just did it

I'm a 57 mage that strong-armed my way through this quest. I walked right up to the 6 shadowed men in Lavastorm and cast a 600dmg AE which sent them all running, and my pet finished off every last one of them. It took about 90 minutes to get a shining stone. I also bullied my way into the froglok priest room. That sh*t has got to be level 20, it dies so fast.

Now my level 6 enchanter has a Rod. Fun being a mage :)

Will all the Shadowmen in WC aggro on a Lvl 50 if I try to pull one? Kinda a stupid question but I don't really wanna die from a Lvl 29 or so mob, hehe.

was with a L41 Dwarf Cleric who pulled shad's one at a time, non aggro style, shouldnt be a problem for ya :)
Question about the Stone
# Dec 05 2000 at 7:06 PM Rating: Default
I know loot off of the Shadowmen is No rent,But once you get the stone transmuted is it still No rent or does that change?
RE: Question about the Stone
# Dec 08 2000 at 3:43 PM Rating: Decent
The stone off the shadow men is not no rent, I have had one in the bank for weeks. So im sure it wont be no rent after it is transmuted.

I had the stone turned into a glamour stone after the Rathe Mnts. gypsy gave it back to me, then a glowing glamour stone after Tarn Vislin gave it back to me. Point being, the shining stone is lore no drop, the two stones I got back had the exact same specifications, you log or go LD, it'll still be there when you return

Tarn Visilin

Where exactly in Highkeep is Tarn Visilin? I looked all over for him last night, with a map, and still couldn't find him. Is he like Cynthia in that people like to kill him?
RE: Tarn Visilin

Tarn Vislin (i think .. guy who does the enc pet spells anyway, never really looked at his name, so useful to know just for that if he isn't Tarn) .. if you go straight thru the entrance hall with the merchants, up the steps and round the first wall and thru the next hall .. take the left side past the next wall and into the carpet looklike area .. take the first door on your left, pass thru this room over to the door on the other side .. open that and pass thru .. go to the other side of room and turn right, keeping the book case on ur left .. there you'll find Tarn and a bard Justin Rhymes for bard songs ..
